Headphones

Hey all, so, my headphones finally broke after months of intense use (the left headphone doesn't work anymore, but the right one still does).
Does anyone have a cheaper recommendation other than the stock SGS4G headset? I love the thing, but I just wanna see what other possibilities there are. $30 for a headset seems like a pretty generous amount.

I use these I used them for running to. They have great bass sound.

I purchased the headset from AntonX's post. I'm waiting for them to arrive now. I'll keep you guys posted on whether or not it's comparable to the OEM headset.
Then again, it's shipped from Hong Kong, so I'm guessing it would be authentic Samsung...
On another note, I realize that ALL of my headphones always break from the connector. One of the earbuds always end up failing on me. I'm guessing it's because I don't store them away properly (I just coil it up and put it into my ass pocket). So...how do you guys keep your headphones safe?

I purchased them a month ago too. They are under dust in my bedroom corner. Poor sound,difficult to plug in properly to get the most sound. I dont think this is authentic from samsung. They r just fake.you get what you pay for

Hm, that's strange. I myself found links to these on xda I9000 accessory forum, and people who bought them didn't seem to complain and actually made impression that these were original Samsung OEMs. Well, the ones that came with the phone don't sound that great either, maybe just OK.

Okay, I just received the five headsets from this guy. They were ALL defective. They are not even close to acceptable, and the answer/end call buttons don't work either.
Wish me luck on returning these to Hong Kong.

I'd recommend something like Skull Candy Mic'd
That model is only $20, and is the same style as the Samsung ones. They feel about the same in comfort, but they definitely sound better with music.

Hrm, that's definitely something I'll look into. How is the call quality on that? For the Samsung OEM headset, it sounds pretty good.
Btw, you can get them from Amazon for cheaper, and Skullcandy still provides warranty for them!

For anyone that may be remotely interested, timesaviour on Ebay (the seller mentioned by AntonX) has the OEM headset for Samsung Galaxy S I9000. All the headsets he sent me didn't seem to work for the SGS4G though (except for one that was actually a SGS4G OEM headset).
Still, he was cool enough to give me a refund for the defective ones.
I'll definitely be checking out the Skullcandy Ink'd Mic'd though. I've generally had great experiences with Skullcandy, and with warranty, why not!

I like the stock Sammys, but the Beats by Dre are phenomenal...although a tad bit costly.

I've always heard they were nothing but the name. They supposedly have poor build quality with a big price tag. Slapping Dr. Dre on it sells itself, lol.

If you get on ebay an search for best buy outlet, they usually have some great deals. I've bought 3 sets of insignia Bluetooth NS-BTHDP behind the head headsets. And they are really good. I paid $20 or less for each set from best buy on ebay. I hate the earbud kind. Oh these insignias were about $120 in stores when I bought them. I don't know how much they would be now. And they give you free shipping on them. So if you like Bluetooth headset id say check that out. And all mine were brand new still in original packaging. Hope this helps out.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I'm not really a music enthusiast. I just listen to it for boring train rides, walks, etc.
So far, I'm really convinced with the Skullcandy Ink'd Mic'd though. Can't really go wrong for $15 + warranty!

Is it me, or do iphone headphones work improperly on the SGS4G?
Specifically, I can't get the button the play/stop/skip track properly. It works sometimes, but very inconsistently.

Personally I'd go for Samsung, I believe they are the best for audio/visual on the market.

Klipsch S4A. I'm trying to find one.

You will NOT get more bang for your buck than these. I'd have been happy had they cost me twice the asking price here. They out-perform my £60 Senheissers easily.

Unfortunately I lost them, so using some Xmas cash I bought the top model in the range. They cost twice as much, but are about 5 times as good!!!! With the right EQ settings on PowerAmp (the best player IMO) these things are simply outstanding.

I have the lowrider headphones and the ink'd earphones.
Previous version of lowrider broke quite some times, but it had great support, every time I got a new one. Never had problems now with the newer version of the Lowrider. Also never had problems with the ink'd.
Next headphone i'll buy will be the Beats Audio Solo HD

I have to disagree, i think skull candy are the epitome of style of product.
They were the worse headphones i have ever brought because of the really low audio quality of both highs and low frequencies, but they were full ear headphones and not ear phones.

had 2 types of skull candy ones and they were alright but nothing special and the ones that go over your head actually snapped.
After a new pair and will give them ajay threes a try I think, decent reviews and a good price at £30

Have a look at the Razer Moray in ear earphones, they come with a little carry case, different bud sizes, and an airplane adapter. The sound on them is pretty good too. However i could be recommending them, for the simple fact that im a Razer fanboy

This, this and this. I recently bought the Fours and it's the best pair of in-ear headphones I've ever owned.
Definitely true about PowerAMP, I even combined it with Volume+ set to Beats Emulation, so happy.
Thanks for recommending the a-Jays, I bought my Fours for £20 off e-Bay full with the over-kill packaging.

That app might work but it's appears to be mainly for the one button headphones while the Fours have 3, yet it seems only one works in Android.
Haven't tried CyanogenMod yet, it might fare better there.

I just bought an ajays one plus in Singapore yesterday for 90sgd, the headset controls are workin fine, the bass is awesome. You should try it ;D

if you want good audio quality for music, the beats are not good. rather get the htc mic-piece and use some good headphones from sennheiser, ultimate ears, etymotic and so on...

For 53 bux it's not horrible. The mic works fine and controls are good as well. Because they are bass heavy, depending on what type of music you listen too, you may like or be 'meh' on them.
I personally think they are ok, but have since replaced the earbuds with Sol Republic AMPS HD, but those cost a bit more than 53 bux. (I got mine for 85 but retail for about 99). Those suckers are clear with the bass where it needs to be.
However saying that, the Sennheisers would do the job nicely as well, but it's just personal preference!

I thank all of you for your input. I found the iBeats on Ebay for 39 dollars, so I went ahead and ordered them. They'll be here today, I hope.
Again, I appreciate the input. I am not really interested in AMAZING sound quality, I just wanted something that looked "cool" and enabled hands free calling. So if someone called while I was listening to music I could just answer and go... And was better than my 5 dollar ear buds from Wal-Mart. Haha.
The iBeats will be perfect for my reason. I'm not really a music head. Just listen when mowing the lawn, walking about, etc.

The Bose in ear are the way to go. The sound quality is awesome. You can get the new ones that are designed for android with a mic. I had the set without a Mic until my dog chewed them.lol

What's wrong with dr.dre?
I have used the full line of bose, but only have one pair that came with the amaze with controls. That's the only reason I have them. They aren't totally bad, just the name of "Monster" and "beats" makes it a marketing genius formula. Pair that with a known rapper/musician/producer, and everyone wants to see and try em. I know I have .
I have used clearer headphones/earbuds but I do have the beats as a backup.

Mine? Nope bought them off a person who had an amaze. So not fake.
Same can be said with most headsets out there. Bose, Sol Republic etc.. Just try some out and make your own decision.

I have Beats Mixr's which I use for work (DJ'ing) and occasionally on my phone as they came with a DJ cable and control talk cable. Love them.
iBeats are on my shoppling list next for the Sensation as I love the quality and sound.
Saying that, it all depends on the quality of MP3 you are listening to. I bought some Sennheiser CX200 last week for £10 (no control talk), however the music and sound is pretty decent for the price.

Bro, monster beats by dre is overpriced but not overrated. If you've owned or own a beats headphone, earphone then you would know. Even if it may not have better sound quality than some seinheiser headphones, etc but the brand and build quality is important as well. I mean, it looks awesome! Headphones

I'm looking for a set of headphones within the $100-$150 range. I have looked around many forum discussions and finally decided on getting the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. However before I buy it I'm having second thoughts.. I have an HTC One S with beats integrated (obviously) and listen to mainly rap/hip hop, but occasionally rock also. I was wondering whether if I should go with the beats used or go with the M50? M50 I heard was better but us more focused on the complete sound of the song and more suited for songs other than rap/hip hop. Whereas I like my bass relatively heavy in my songs. Which beats provide since that's kinda their selling point. Also does beats for my phone have any distinctly different effect on the two headphones or does it just boost the bass of the song? Also I heard that Beats have noise-canceling technology which sounds really appealing, but my question to you is the feature worth over the M50's? Any thoughts are appreciated

I have the in-ear Monster iSport immersion headphones and I am more than happy with the sound, really pro sound from in ear headphones, I was surprised with the bass they produce. Music is crisp and loud even in max volume, no need to use it over 70-80% though since the noice cancellation is adequate.

The M50's are a very nice set and would certainly sound better than Beats, but you might consider where you are going to be listening. They are a set more geared toward home/studio. While the closed headphones are great for being able to ignore the outside noises of everyday travel and not disturb the people around you with your music, you might consider the fact that for safety reasons you might not want to be unable to hear horns/sirens/shouting while walking around. You wouldn't have to worry at all about quality with that set though as long as you are okay with closed headphones in general.

I have a set of Beats Solo HD on sale on eBay. They worked very well with Beats for me and have amazing bass. The only thing is you need an equalizer app to turn up mids and highs when playing rock or alternative. The Beats have great bass but if you want richer sound I'd suggest another brand.

I have a pair of Sennheiser PX100's, they are pretty amazing for the price. They have great bass, good highs, but the best part is the price is about $40. Unfortunately you cant really buy them anywhere, they have been replaced by the PX100-II, and I cant speak to those. So if you can find a pair for about $40, I would definately buy them.

As with any company there are good and bad models for what you want. I love my Sennheiser hd280 pro's, but they don't have overpowering bass like other models. I was more concerned with sound blocking and clear sounds. You really have to read reviews and test headphones out in the stores (with your own device/music) if you want something great.

The Beats EQ works with anything you plugin. Beats boosts bass a decent amount with a little boost in treble.
I'd check out head-fi's website and ask around there, be sure to be specific about your taste.
I personally took their $30 recommendation for IEMs and went with a Meelectronic M31. Never looked back, works wonders with the phone and every genre of music sounds great.

Assuming he's from US, ours didn't come with any headphones.

I have some beats studio in white and some audiotechnica ATH-M50's in white and I'll I can say is the ATH-M50's are better with any music, in any situation, and in every way.
EDIT: unless you're looking for a necklace that also emits sound, then I'd go with the beats.

Hands down. A/B'd them against my Sennheiser HD280pro, and for everyday listening or gaming, I'd go with the Monoprice. Clear but not overpowering bass, good highs.
Fantastic presence. The HD280pro have a little more transparency in the sound, but you can't beat the Monoprice 8323s in the <$100 price bracket. There's just no competition.
Everything from dubstep to Diana Krall was gorgeous on these puppies.

Don't know what the $ price is, but can recommend sennheiser HD 25-1 II

I use the Soul SL99's, they sound great, I love the clarity all around and a good thumpy bass. I am looking for something better so I'm also checking this thread for some good suggestions under 100 bucks.

I use sennheiser HD 280 pros. I bought my pair 9 years ago and I've used them every day. I don't use speakers ever so I've litterally used them every day. Yesterday they finally broke and guess what? I'm buying another pair this week. They were $299 way back then, but they're only $100 now.

Check out the razer electra i got em and they are amazing!

I normally take hifi magazine reviews with a pinch of salt but the Soundmagic E-10 IEDs got pretty good reviews from users too, so I splashed out a very reasonable £30 or so for a pair. It took a while to get them to fit correctly in my ear but the results are very good indeed, especially for the price.
I thought I had bought a lemon when I first tried them, but fitting the correct ear bud is vital for good sound from IEDs. When I use 'over the ear' headphones (usually at home) I use Sennheiser HD280s.

Well first of all,i'm not exactly a audiophile,but the original earphone given by samsung are not really satisfy.
I had a cheap earphone (under 20 bucks),while it did perform better than original earphone,i tempted to change it.
anyone here can recommend/suggest any nice entry level IEM to accompany our device? what earphone you guys using?
that's aside,anyone know what audio chipset our device using?i know the original s2 use yamaha,been wondering what's in our device. :laugh:

Well first of all,i'm not exactly a audiophile,but the original earphone given by samsung are not really satisfy.
I had a cheap earphone (under 20 bucks),while it did perform better than original earphone,i tempted to change it.
anyone here can recommend/suggest any nice entry level IEM to accompany our device? what earphone you guys using?
that's aside,anyone know what audio chipset our device using?i know the original s2 use yamaha,been wondering what's in our device. :laugh:

i dont know if you know this brand but try SenHeiser

I am bit suppreised! I had some samsung, philips (2x), htc (2x)... panasonic and senheiser (not the cheapes ones;P) and I really like the oryginal ones from s2+.
had even some fights for them with by women.

You can't go wrong with Sennheiser, be it earbuds or IEMs; entry level or mid or audiophile grade.
Personally I use buds as I can't stand IEMs.
If you're looking for IEMs, then you're spoilt for choice. Besides Sennheiser, Audio-Technica makes decent entry level to mid-range stuff too.

as i'm not really audiophile,i'll be settle for budget/entry level iem then move to higher or mid range . i do like bass and decent mid though

i think the stock s2+ earphone is excellent
but i'd buy skullcandy if i were you

For using with the phone, Sennheiser MX580. I bought from this Malaysian online seller

Think you should buy online. Retail prices at shops in Malaysia are ridiculous, even for entry level. And most of the reputable brands seem to only be available at audiophile shops.
Agree with Brian about Skullcandy. They are surprisingly decent for entry level. Before i actually tested a pair, I thought they're crap like Beats lol

yeah,i heard of that too,one of the great bang for buck earphone :fingers-crossed: but it's kinda hard to find one in here

i agree,that's why i used to shop in lelong or lowyat,retail shop in sabah can sell up to double the price!

i think i gonna get a meelec m9 for the best possible entry/budget earhphone,hope will work out :fingers-crossed:

so it was dress casual day for my school and i wore a pair of shorts with a few pockets
i put my samsung stock earphone in the lower one and when i got home i took out my phone, wallet and forgot about the earphone
it was in the pocket and i put it in the washing machine and i realized what happened the next day! :silly:
i took it out and found some moisture on the bud
tried it on my iPod Nano
works perfectly fine
but i didn't wanna take the risk as i hate moisture in my electronic products
so i bought a new skullcandy earphone.... not quite expensive, around $230 HKD. the sound quality is good but i'm still fitting into the new earphone's sounds. though it's great!!
so i really suggest you guys to choose skullcandy instead of the other brand

i brought a cheap earphone for myself,a hippo boom,cause i love bass :victory:
i agree with you,though beats are nice,but for that value,we can get something better,like shure, tdk, beyerdynamic

Another great alternative are the headphones from HTC phones. They works well with SGSII+.:victory:

My original earphones get broken, so i buy new ones from S4...
