Hi
As we all know, from Android 5 none of the auto answer apps work, so please don't make an app suggestion if you can't prove that it works.
I have a disability that prevents me from reliably answering calls. I used to have an LG G3 that was able to automatically answer calls when a headset was connected. I forgot which version it was running but it may have been 4.x. I sold it and replaced it with a Huawei P9 without realizing that I would lose the auto answer feature. This is such a critical feature that I could not imagine it not existing in current phones.
Which brings me to the question: does there exist a current generation phone that has auto answer built in? Or do I have to buy something four generations old?

Hello All,
With the new 7.5 release, does anyone think it'll be possible to eventually have an app similar to phoneAlarm Pro or even get the simple setting of peak times? I know that the newer 7.x phones are a lot more restrictive than previous WM phones when it comes to what a dev is allowed to do.
Here's the thing, because there isn't (to my knowledge) a way to quiet the phone at night for all notifications except a real phone call, I leave my phone in another room. Bottom line I'd hate to have an emergency call come in at night and miss it because I don't want to keep the phone on the nightstand.
Thank you,
Well oddly enough I was searching for a possible answer today (as my search in XDA forums yesterday didn't show any results), and found this older post concerning notifications. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11432995#post11432995
So it appears the only way to keep the phone active for emergencies and turn off notification on email, sms, etc. is to just turn off cellular and wi-fi. Sorry MS, but this is stupid as hell...
Even with 7.5 windows phone still has the smoothest UI but is behind in important features. Unfortunately seprate notifications must not be a issue with ms
Hi All I have just purchased a new nexus 5 (gear live pre-ordered) in a curious attempt to have a go at android from my Iphone 5c.
I am tweaking the handset at the moment to give me some lost functionality from IOS. I have stumbled across a really painful problem that i can not find a solution to. I use a pair of bose wired earphones to listen to music and use as hands free in the car. On my iphone, I am used to to pushing the mic button and activating the voice dial from the locked screen, all good.
When i try doing this on my nexus, i get the "can not use OK Google until the phone is unlocked" message in my ear.
I have to have a passlock on the handset due to work security restrictions.
Does anyone have a work around for this? I am hoping my new gear live will keep the pass lock when in close proximity (A major flaw otherwise - unlocking your phone before you can see anything on your smartwatch!) in the interim though, putting a pass key in the phone every time i want to make a call whilst riving is pretty poor!
currently on stock 4.4.4. not rooted yet -
Thanks all

I'll be honest and say that being able to make a call with the phone being pin locked would be a security risk. Now as for a workaround I can only think of one thing that would work but it requires some time to configure things correctly.
You could us ethe app tasker to automate this. You can set a profile for when you are in your car. When you are driving in the car (e.g. moving over 10 MPH) you can have tasker turn off your PIN Lock. Then when you get out of your car (eg not moving) it would reenable your PIN lock.
If that's too hard to configure (I can show you if you are interested in the above method) You can just set up a much simpler profile in tasker that whenever your BT headset is connected disable your PIN lock. THough this is less secure.
Those are the only options I can think of and honestly I would be surprised if anyone came up with a true solution to this
Here, check this out.
Me:
When two BT devices capable of telephony functions are connected, the second one connects as "Connected (no phone)", and its telephony function cannot be used.
Example (picture attached). If Huawei Watch is already connected, when Jabra Talk attempts to connect, it will connect as described above, and one cannot make or receive phone calls on Jabra Talk (but still can on the watch.)
Oneplus support:
Thank you for taking the time to send us this email as well as the screenshot that you provided. I understand that you want to use both of the Bluetooth devices for easy access and getting in touch with loved ones for helping us keep on track with our daily activities.
I would like to inform you that the OnePlus 6 can actually connect to two Bluetooth devices. However, by default, you can only choose one for making and receiving calls. Just choose which you preferred to use by toggling the "Phone calls" under each setting of the Bluetooth devices.
This bug was not present in 5.1.5. They introduced it in 5.1.6/7.
This bug is present in all Pixel phones because it's a buggy Google code that Google simply does not care to fix.
Samsung fixed this in their phones.
So, I am guessing OP had this fixed in 5.1.5, but then they just lazily copied and pasted that Google garbage code.
And they don't know how to fix it now. So now it's a freaking feature.
UNBELIEVABLE!
I have the same problem with my Huawei Watch and my cars hands free system
I tried to disconnect the watch with Tasker as soon as my hands free system connects, but it never worked reliable (because the watch connects again immediately and takes over the call functionality)
I guess we need to wait until we get Android Pie because as far as I know this problem is solved with Android Pie

I hope so. But I'm not that hopeful - I think it's a Google bug, and they simply don't care to fix it.
Meanwhile, I have to disable the phone functionality on the Watch so I can use my hands free car kit.
It's so disappointing, especially since this stuff always worked with Samsung phones, OOS 5.1.5 (the bug was introduced in 5.1.6/7) and even the early Pixel, pre Android 7.0.2.

if Google's code is garbage, I suggest you stop using android and start making your own good code!

I disabled the phone functionality too
I had a Samsung phone before as well (Note 8) and with that I had no problems with my hands free kit but instead the smartwatch lost the phone functionality after a few hours so I always had to reconnect it (basically the same problem but the other way round)... it's very frustrating that such a pretty basic thing doesn't work properly
I also tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect
but it didn't seem to make any difference, it didn't seem to make anything at all
I read that Android Pie is able to connect to more than one Bluetooth headset at a time so this should fix the issue after all

I had a Pixel XL for over a year. Only kept it for Project FI. Bug ridden POS.
Sold it for half going price just so I could feel clean again.
Even if Samsung *used* to have sluggish Touchwiz in the past, at least it didn't have deal breaking bugs.
Don't even have to make my own code - some XDA roms had fixed this bug, as opposed to Google.

I am almost positive that if you had a somewhat similar problem on a Note 8, it's probably Google's fault.
I don't really use the 2 BT phone functionality for more than 30 min on average, but I've never had any problems on Note 7, GS6 or GS9, or even on a Pixel pre 7.0.2 android, when this bug was first introduced.
After 7.0.2, bluetooth stuff just broke everywhere. This bug, constant disconnects and reconnects, for some people music skips, for some doesn't even work, BT UI in Settings just crashing etc.
It's like Google replaced their BT programmer with a monkey at that point, or even a monkey's nephew.
So just because you cannot use 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously to make phone calls, it's a deal breaker??? Lmao please please please go back to Samsung so we don't have to hear the whining anymore. Good luck with those bootloaders
Hi all, hoping for help. I'm thinking of getting a new phone soon but I am wondering what phones have an auto detect driving function that puts the phone in hands free mode, or starts a driving assist or android auto.
I currently have a moto z-play (first gen). Bought it because of super-amoled screen and big battery (2 days battery life). Been using it for 3 years, still get almost a day and a half battery. But the function I find I cannot live without is moto's drive assist that detects when I'm driving and goes handsfree - I don't even take my phone out of my pocket and it will speak texts to me and allow me to voice reply. Not even all new moto phones come with this feature anymore. And the ones that do don't have the best battery anymore (like z3 play).
So trying to figure out what phones support such a feature, or ways that phones can have that set up. My car does not have bluetooth. I read google is going to setup google assistant to do such a thing - detect driving based on sensors and sound - but it looks like only on pixel3 and newer phones. Can't afford a pixel3 or newer.
I know this seems kinda like a "help me decide on a new phone" question - but I am actually hoping to prompt a discussion on phones that auto detect driving, without bluetooth, or maybe any hacks that you know of to enable it.
Or if anyone knows if a future android updates will give this assistant auto detect driving function to non-pixel phones.
I'd even consider buying a cheap-ish china phone (umidigi, realme, etc) and root it, if I could get a similar function.
Thanks.
You can create this yourself on any (most) device using tasker. Or use a NFC tag.
Hi. Is it possible to record calls on Android os 13?
I heard since some Android 9 there is no possibility by many developers because they require a level of root to grant apps access.
Does it depend on root access and which os might have call recording function or might be working with call recorders?
Yes, call recording is possible on Android 13, but if it's not already enabled on your software, it will likely require root to enable.
Keep in mind that call recording may be illegal or restricted in some areas, and it is your own responsibility to be aware of the laws regarding recoding your calls.

In addition to what was @V0latyle said above, yes to this part. Even with the same phone it might be available in one country but not another (native). Other require root and some just aren't compatible. If you post more details maybe someone else can give you more detailed info for your situation.

I wanna buy a new phone and look which device might fit call recording best.
How do the manufacturers build phones detecting the permission or forbidance of recording? Is there a list of devices working? How come that some devices are not compatible for call recording at all?
I can only speak from what I've read and experienced. Samsung for example has it in a few markets only. Some call recorders I used in the past in the playstore listed certain phones weren't compatible, maybe technical limitations.
3rd party used to work with Samsung/for me but don't anymore. Unless it's allowed in your country (and comes with the phone) it could stop working at any time. Since I am in the USA, our laws are different in each state so none of our phones have it by default so I wouldn't be able to recommend anything.
There are subscription apps that route your calls through their servers and record on their end but don't recommend that.

Which Samsung was the last working with recorders? Seems like devices might scan the gsm?
Why don't you recommend these call routings? Due to data privacy, quality of voice or cost or other interference?
Ever since android 11 or 12 is stopped working for me. Haven't tried anything new since
And yes, privacy reasons. Also a bad experience, they all inevitably (except business grade solutions) tank. They are there one day and gone the next. I loved the one I was using, month after I bought a year subscription they were closing.
At this point I only make and acccept calls that I know won't need recording. If they do, I carry a second phone (impractical) or wait till I get home and use my tablets voice recorder app

How much did a subscription for one year cost you?
Do you use a speakerphone or make a hands-free mobile phone call while holding the microphone of your second mobile phone towards it?
It wasn't cheap, $52.99, did other things like let you listen into the call and have their "bot say what you typed" , etc.. but again that's gone. There might be similar services but it's not worth it.
And for the second device method, you can do wired (a lot of splitters/y-cables) or just speaker on the phone making the call.
All this is last resort stuff though. If you're in a country that allows it, just Google whatever model you're interested in "can phone-XYZ record calls in Country-ABC?"

Can you recommend a y-cable or splitter or name a technology that works well? And then just pluging in the 3.5mm jack or usb and how to record on the second device?
It's janky and It's really not practical though, just warning you in advance. It's also like $50 of cable spaghetti.
Basically you get a usb-c to 3.5 headset adapter for each phone. You get a headset splitter, headset goes into another splitter. Audio goes into one port, on the other headphone splitter plug you route a cable to the microphone splitter input of the second phone.
Maybe something pre-made exists but don't know what it's called. You should be able to find a diagram on Google of what I'm describing above.
