Huge trouble with camera - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hello guys!
I don't own a Xperia XZ, but a friend of mine does, "thanks" to me. Because I own a Xperia Z2 and I have nothing to say but great things about my phone, I recommended to my friend this brand. He bought a XZ a few days ago. Everything was fine until he started to try the camera. He's a photographer, so he has "the eye" to detect if something is wrong. But the failure with his XZ camera doesn't need special talents. The camera has something wrong. The phone had Marshmallow and after he detected the failure, he updated to Nougat hoping to fix it, but nothing happened. And now the store doesn't want to change the phone. He went and told them about the problem, they tried another two phones, one with the same problem and the other even worse. So these people said to him that apparently the issue is something that "comes" with the phone and not a failure. I believe that his phone belongs to a defecting batch. I'm gonna show you a few examples and please, tell me if this is normal or not. You can see some weird "dots" when you check the details of the pictures or bad quality directly:

My phone doesn't take pictures like these. I guess is the same sensor but different features, but if is not, then this is even worse because XZ is superior to Z2 in everything, except the camera? That's why I'm asking to other owners of the same phone, because I can't really say if this is what you get with the XZ cam. He is changing iOS (iPhone 4S) to Android and his first experience with an Android phone hasn't been the best, thanks to this
Thanks in advance to all, I hope you can help us.

hmm ur pictures are to noisy i think...take a look at mine i probably dont have that problem but with xperia cameras there was always some problem...auto focus is still an issue today...sometimes picture are out of focus...sharpening is bad and noise is to agressive ...u can compenzate with some manual controls but u wont get far. Also xperia cameras are very sensitive to light...it only makes good pictures in perfect light condition...i think that Sony is doing bad job at software ingenering deliberately cuz they have to sell camera sensors to other brands...if they make a software to perfection no brand will buy the camera sensor cuz why would they if u cant prefect it anymore ...there must be always some room for development so they can always claim that they upgraded something...best example is xperia XZs and XZpremium they dont even have better pictures then the XZ...they are selling stories and thats it...these days u have to be carefool what u buy.

Front facing cam

Has anyone figured out how to enable the ff cam? Where can I get the drivers?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
There is no front facing cam...do your research...
There is no Front Facing camera. What you see on the front are the light sensor and proximity sensors.
seriously? please have a clue about the phone you are using befor asking questions like this
Ha ha, that is a sensor bud. Your captivate will never have a front facing camera but you will not be last person to start a thread just like this and you were not the first person either so don't feel too bad.
Maybe get a webcam with microUSB connector, some tape, and the USB driver to turn the phone into a USB. Then all you need is a driver on the phone and you are all set.
It might not fit in your pocket.
Open any application that would access the camera
Use phone backwards
There you go forward facing camera
or if u can develop some sort of mirror system, attach it to the back camera, and use reflections as the image...
Problem Solved!
Here you go, the diagram is for the iPhone 3G but I assume it will fix your problem ha.

I used a highly reflective metal but it worked for me
A guy I work with helped design this thing for the iPhone.
http://www.isnapme.com/
based on measurements, that should work.
Although, I hope you have something to use to suction it against
now they need one for our phone and we good to go!
tim that's really cool. I'd buy.
i really dont know why they dont put the camera on a swivel so you can flip it around. No need for extra hardware, and its convenient for taking all sorts of pics.

At least one person here is nice to another. It seems whenever something like this is posted people crucify the OP. Nice to see a little kindness.

The crucification is because the OP didn't search or do any basic fact checking.
Start a new thread and ask how you can unlock your phone......

Or the fact that it's painfully obvious that it's not a camera. Other than that, the simple logic that a feature such as a forward facing camera, if there, would be something advertised to counter Facetime or at least turned on in the FW if the obvious CCD was there.

HTC One E8 - First impressions: Premium device disguised as a mid-tier phone

I've had the HTC One E8 for just over a week now and I am thoroughly impressed. The device has a premium display and chip-set at a mid-grade price. The curved edges of the poly-carbonate (plastic) back plate makes this device easy to hold without losing its visual appeal. On the back you will also find a 13 MP camera with a single tone flash. The face of the phone contains a 5 MP Selfie camera, 5” HD display, and two front facing speakers. The “Boomsound” front facing speakers can push out a great deal of sound without losing any sound quality.

Another amazing feature of this phone is Sprint Spark. If you have not had a chance to try out Spark you might be blown away by the data speeds you will see. This was my first time trying out Spark and I could not believe how much faster it is then my cable internet speeds. Check out Spark availability in your area.

How is the phone after a few weeks of usage?
How is the battery life?
What is the Android version on it? Did it get 4.4.3?

The battery life is pretty good and typically lasts me the entire day. Also good to know that I am always playing with it so you might get way better battery life then I do. The US Sprint version comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4.2.

I have had my phone for a few days, and I have to say that I am impressed with the quality of this device for the price I paid.
Sound/speed is much better than my old Galaxy S3.
Multitasking is a snap, and I kind of like the HTC Sense UI.
Thinking of rooting this device, have you had the chance to root yet?

Many of us in India have rooted it, you can find the threads in the dev section and Q&A's also.
Running smooth, and yes , a great phone overall...
cheers.

Not sure if any of you have experienced this, but there seems to be a scratch or damage on the backside of the glass, letting light through... Kinda looks like a notification light, but infact its the backlight from the LCD shining through......
Anyone else have this on the bottom of the phone ??
I do have the same problem right at the same spot! :cyclops:

Interesting. I think I'm taking mine back.. Not a good defect at all.
Mine also has damage to the satin finish coating. Must have been thrown around in shipping..
Thank God! Finally...I've been searching all over the web for this issue. XDA to the rescue..Yay!. I am also facing the same issue. It's only been 3 days since I purchased it for a whooping $820 and now this darn bright dot seems to appear at the right end bottom part of the screen. I am planning to take it back to the service centre but I am doubtful whether they will replace the phone or not. BTW I stay in India and my model is the Z3 black D6653. Guys facing the similar issue, please post your model number also so that we can isolate the family of Z3s that are defective as this doesn't seem to happen with other models of Z3 like D6603, D6643, D6616.
Guys, I need a small update before I start wasting my time trying to get it replaced. Did anyone of you get a replacement? Not the refurbished one but a new phone. In India, most of the people applying for a replacement are getting a refurbished piece instead of a new phone. I might as well live with this small blemish instead of using a second hand device.
I can't imagine that any refurbished phones are available as Z3 replacements already

Definitely a defective device. They should swap it out for a brand new one, most companies only provide refurbished devices as replacements when they have gone EOL.
Yes that's what the guys at the service center are saying. It seems that I need to wait for 15-20 days before the replacement arrives. Also I noticed that the camera quality is not as good as in the Z2. even the Xiaomi MI3 outperformed Z3 in superior auto mode.

I have seen those strange dots on two Xperia Z5 displays already; normal or not?

Greetings, fellow Android users.
This is my first time on this site. The thread title might confuse you, so allow me to elaborate: I have bought two Sony Xperia Z5 phones from Amazon and upon removing the pre-applied screen protectors, I saw those odd-looking dots all over the displays (see picture)

I have no idea what those are, 'cause this is actually my first Sony smartphone, so forgive my lack of knowledge if that is actually a common thing, but the fact remains that I never before saw anything like that before. I admit that this is irritating me beyond measure, since I pay close to attention to my phones always.
On the picture, you can see a light which is on the left side, but that is from my flashlight so you guys can see the dots more clearly; they are all over the screens and no, they are not pixel errors, for they can be seen even while the two phones are off.
Before I ask for a third Z5 phone, I'd like to seek your help to ensure if that was just bad luck or not. Also, the dots cannot be wiped clean. Sadly.
That is probably the digitizer. I can't answer if it should be visible like that or not though.

I see. Well, I need people who also own a Z5, because only they can take a look at their own screens and give me an answer. The digitizer shouldn't be visible like that..it just strikes me as too odd.
Yup, that's the digitizer*. Business as usual. Sometimes they're visible, sometimes not.

Okay, thanks for your reply, but damn..that sure as hell is an eyesore to me. So, am I right to assume that every Z5 has this visible digitizer? I'd rather have one which isn't like that, tbh.
its normal, had many xperia devices since the ARC
I've had my Z5 for nearly 2 weeks now and mine has no visible dots like yours, I would be getting replacement. Just because it is common doesn't mean it's made that way.

That's what I wanted to read. I now know what those dots are, but I was unsure whether or not every Z5 has them visible. Thanks to you, I can go look for a new one and hopefully the next will be better.

The reason he had no visible dots was probably because they're very hard to discern apart from very specific lighting situations. Sony's choice of digitizers dating back to Sony Ericsson phones (Had an X10 myself that had this) have always had digitizers that are more visible under certain lighting conditions. You would probably be able to find them if you looked for a new one as well.
those dots are only visible if you shine DIRECT light at it with the screen off and at a certain angle maybe. Seriously its normal, go switch up 99 Z5s and you will find the exact same thing. Just did it to my Z, Z3, and Z3 Tablet Compact. Ill check my z5 when it arrives and im sure ill have the same thing.

I think I saw last time I saw this come up the general consensus was that this is just ordinary lens flare. Its a reflection of the light on the lens. Its annoying but completely normal.

It's plausible that it could be the situation here lol
I'm not used to have such a good phone and think everything it's a problem [emoji23]
I wanted know if other people experienced the same and it was not a camera problem for the good of my heart lool
I understand. The phone is a huge investment for a lot of people so they tend panic at anything that they perceive to be "not quite right".
I wouldn't worry to much about it though mate. These phones are made to ridiculously stringent standards so the likelihood of there being something legitimately wrong with your phone is slim unless you're insanely unlucky.
You'll see a few complaints here and there about any phone online but you have to remember that for every person who writes about a complaint or issue, there are tens of thousands of others out there with a fully functioning device who are never going to post about their positive experience.
