Hi all,
I've upgraded from my Nexus 4 to 5 and I've found that when I make or receive calls in my new Mercedes A Class the person on the other end can't hear me so seems the mic isn't working through bluetooth. The N4 has absolutely no issues with this and I could do everything. The only extra feature I've gained with the N5 is that I can now read my text messages on the screen where the N4 didn't but didn't even know that was there.
Anyone either have a Mercedes and having this issue or does anyone know what it could possibly be? It's a bit useless if I can't make or receive calls while driving and annoying that they could've gone backwards making it less compatible than the N4 was.
Only thing I thought was possibly Mercedes aren't compatible with the latest BT version but then again it should surely be backwards compatible.
Any help appreciated.
Alex
I have no issues in my CLA45 AMG. I have not used the text feature but voice control with the mic is spot on.
I did have a dealer update for the COMAND system off the lot that updated Bluetooth compatibility.

Thanks mate, strange that this is my second device as RMA'd my first for something else but that didn't work either.
I've gotta go into MB and see about something anyway so will ask if there's anything they can think of. I've not got COMMAND only the Audio 20 system so not sure if that gets any updates.
Same thing

FX35 has same exact problem
Shouldn't be anything to do with newer Bluetooth profiles, mine works perfectly with the old COMAND in my CLS which uses the Bluetooth puck in the armrest so must be using fairly old profiles. In fact I'm really pleased as it doesn't suffer any of the disconnection problems that loads of android devices suffer from like my old xperia did and I gather most Samsungs do to.
Mercedes benz bluetooth nexus 5
Hi all,
I just converted from iphone 4s to the new Nexus 5 and when I try to pair it for bluetooth hands free, the car display says "ready for telephony" but the car doesn't show up in my bluetooth devices on the phone. And yes bluetooth is turned on on the phone. My iPhones paired just fine. Any ideas? Am I missing something?

Have you selected for the car to search for device/phone or device to search for car? I had to select search from device so they both aren't searching at the same time. Try turning the bluetooth on the car off and then on and select search from device/phone, on the phone hit search for devices and see if it picks it up. After I hit search for devices the car showed. I was able to easily get it working both ways as long as I did it the right way round with one searching and one being visible.

i am not sure i am following/understanding correctly.
i turn bluetooth on on my phone then hit the "tel" button on my console and it says "ready for telephony". On the phone where it shows devices it has found, it does not show MB. Above the found devices i click to so that my nexus 5 is visible (for 2 minutes, it also shows the count down in parenthesizes) while the display on the car still says "ready for telephony" and still get nothing. could it be that the car is still searching for my old iphone? i dont know what to do.

Just putting it on the telephone screen won't get it ready for pairing it's just ready for any existing connections you have.
On my MB's screen after choosing to add my phone I have a choice whether to search for the phone via the car or to search via the phone where the car will then just remain visible without searching itself. You must have an option to add a new phone? When I changed phones it still let me add my new one even when my N4 was still listed. Maybe take a pic of your screen to show what choices you have?
When the car is ready for pairing it may just list a string of numbers (BT MAC address I guess) until selected and then it will change to MB something or another.
The Alpine ICS-X7 HD.... Awesome stereo loaded with functions.... The HTC One M8, Awesome phone packed with potential! Both very new, VERY expensive, so what do we pay all this money for only to find out the potential is there, yet the function-ability is not...
So the Alpine ICS, like I said is an awesome head unit, the main thing that sold me on it was the ability to mirror your cell phone to the in dash display! Cool feature right...? Not when there is absolutely no sound. Not only does the sound not come from the speakers in the car, but being that it is plugged in through usb, and the phone assumes the audio should be sent out, you cant even get your sound from the phone speakers. I have tried this function using the Samsung Galaxy SIII, works beautifully. When I first acquired the head unit, I had a M7... Plug that phone in and, "Device not Supprted" message on the IDD.. With the M8, plug it in, and the phone recognizes the stereo! Stereo recognizes the phone! Mirrorlink activates on the phone along with the "Car" HTC app. Video is transmitted to the phone and looks quite nice, but no matter what I try, I cant get the sound to work, I have gotten it to kick on a couple times, but two seconds later it is shuts off. I have tried all different arrangements of USB/AUX that the stereo allows and still nothing. Is this a software problem with the M8? I am inclined to think so being that the Samsung device worked without hitch.
My question being this, Has ANYONE out there tried this exact combination of head unit and mobile device? If so would you please share your experience? It seems like all the potential is there yet there is just some minor fix that needs to be implemented. If there is a fix for this, would you also PLEASE share that. Thank you very much to the XDA community, for always being there when I am just about to take a framing hammer to anything electronic in a 3 block radius, for it all has a mind of its own and needs to be destroyed!!! (After not sleeping for three days and trying to troubleshoot non stop that is...)
MirrorLink uses Apps such as the Samsung Drive Link App, takes content from compatible smartphones and “mirrors” this information onto the ICS-X7HD’s 7-inch screen. At this point, the phone’s functions are transferred to the ICS-X7HD, for easy control from the dash and allowing the phone to be safely stored away. Phone functions that can be used via MirrorLink include navigation, music streaming and hands-free phone calls. MirrorLink is an automotive standard developed by the Car Connectivity Consortium.

Hello bda714. I have the M8 on Sprint. I got a Pioneer 4000NEX installed 2 days ago and it has the MirrorLink app. I'm experiencing the EXACT same thing you are experiencing. No sound from google nav, stock music app, or play all access. Sad as the mirrorlink was one of the main reasons i bought the unit. I stumbled across your question while doing a google search trying to find what the fix is. If I find a fix I'll reply back.
What options do you guys have under the paired named for your head unit on your phone under settings->bluetooth?

I have a Pioneer avh-x5600bhs and the cd-ml100. I can get it to recognize mirrorlink. Upon making the connection it seems to fail. Pioneer support has no answers. The m8 isn't even listed as a compatible phone.
Hi all.
I have exactly the same experience with my HTC M8 and my Alpine ics-x8. I too have spent many hours researching, even telephoned HTC and Alpine.
HTC spent 10 premium rate minutes to tell me to send an email that was never answered. Alpine initially tried to help then said it is down to the app.
I can confirm that it is the app as when you get the voice command to work (Google now I think) the respond plays through the speakers.
My M8 is rooted and S-off (UK version).
This all annoys me immensely as it must be simple resolution.

Response from Alpine:
Hi Darren
It is not anything to do with us unfortunately its HTC, the mirror mode just mirrors the Phone nothing more. It is nothing to do with our software its the Phone manufacturer im afraid , contacting our engineering guys this was the exact feedback given. The capability of the unit is just to mirror the phone, its not a listed compatible phone and the only thing i can do it suggest you contact HTC to find out what the mirroring app on your phone is supposed to be used for and what it is compatible with. We do list in the maula and online the compatible phones, we have spoke to various manufacturers and get little or no answers with regards to what phones they will or wont make compatible.

I'll echo what the support tech just stated. Mirrorlink is akin to a terminal server setup, where the car kit is only displaying and doing what the phone is sending it. There's not a lot of logic on the kit side once the link is established.
The only hitch that I have seen is that some Mirrorlink setups require that the phone is connected with both USB and Bluetooth, and the audio goes over that USB link, where Bluetooth is used for Handsfree calls. Are you missing the USB link which it may need?
Apologies for posting in a thread that is a few weeks old.
I have this exact same setup (M8 and ICS-X7) with the exact same problems (No audio, whilst all the apps (Games, YouTube etc) work perfectly)
I spoke to HTC Support today, and they seem to believe its a compatibility problem. Now, after reading this thread and seeing it's been narrowed down to the app blocking the transmission over USB, i asked for a bit more investigation. They have passed my (Our?) problem onto their engineers and will be running tests on their test rigs.
They will be contacting me shortly (Hours, days or weeks, not sure) with the results. If they do come up with anything further, i'll be sure to let you know.
The techs name was Katrine if anyone else feels like speaking to them =)
Hopefully it will be sorted soon =)

Really good to hear - I appreciate that someone else is driving this.
I have tested the M8 with a reference MirrorLink client and also had no audio.
There is a problem with RTP on the HTC.
According to HTC MirrorLink is not (yet) officially supported, but it should be any day now.
Once they make the announcement and release an official update for it I am sure that audio will also work.
And yes the ICS-X7 is a great device.
M8: mirror link
Thank you everyone for the information, looks like I had given up to early on this post.... Whoops! I have learned a couple things since my original post, one that with an audio cable plugged in to the auxiliary jack via a1/8 in audio plug, the audio kicks on briefly, than right back off again.... Such a tease. And by briefly I mean half a second. The other thing I have gotten figured out is that through Google plus, hang outs app, the audio works perfectly!!! I am able to make video calls and view the person I am talking to and also hear them on the head unit (ICS-X7hd).... This leads me to believe that the post by the Alpine rep earlier in this thread may not be completely true. If the sound works for this one app and comes on briefly with the auxiliary and usb plugged in it seems like the phone is making all the correct connections but the head unit isn't knowing where to look for it. Regardless I know that at least in the case of the Alpine ICS-X7hd a firmware update is long over due.
Also when you plug in a galaxy SIII, the head unit brings up like three current nutrition options including navigation, the M8 only brings forward the mirror link...
Thanks again for all the reply's. Let's keep this thread alive in search for an answer, and if you haven't yet, get on the phone or email and rattle some cages, call alpine, call HTC, call Sony... call Obama! Someone needs to fix this, it's not right to spend over a thousand dollars in devices that don't function the way they are advertised to!!!

Just saying but you definitely should have realized that the supported devices for mirrorlink are Nokia phones, Sony phones, Samsung S3 and the Note 2. It was only 'advertised' to function with these.
but anyways, I'm sure it'll come with the next few updates on HTC's part.
On the other hand, I believe there have been people who have reported mirrorlink working for them on the M8. So I'm not too sure how come you're not able to... My guess is that the ICS-X7HD doesn't quite support HTC yet?

Your right, The ICSX7-hd does not support HTC, however, nor does it support Nokia, Sony or Samsung... It only supports Mirrorlink.... "Just saying" And for one, when I bought it, there was no reports yet on functionality with HTC phones, only articles and advertisements stating that it worked with Samsung's Drivelink app, if your phone is compatible with the Drivelink app... At that time, the M7(which was what I had previously), and I believe every other smart phone, could run the drivelink app without a problem, it wasn't until the recent update that it started crashing on any device not running "TM server". For two, the M8 wasn't even announced yet, not even close... So mister "just saying", in all your glorious realizing of helpful information.... You must have skimmed over a couple of things.
But since you are posting you are obviously trying to be helpful, right? So how about throwing up the links to those reports you know about. Go ahead and put all of them, since you know of people, as in plural, that are reporting...or were you strictly believing, and not knowing...? Guess I should have realized that too huh?
So. I don't have a apline but I do have a ton of geek.
Can you grab a logcat when you connect your devices together and I am willing to browse the logs to see what/why it is failing. If your rooted on the phone do the following
Grab a terminal emulator from the l
Playstore. Open it type su allow permission on the prompt.
Then type
logcat > /sdcard/alpinefail.txt
This will start the logging press home softkey and connect the phone to head unit and try to do whatever it is mirrorlink or whatever it's called. Once u have it connected and still no audio close out of any apps disconnect from the head unit and open terminal back up. And press the volume up and c this will terminate the logging and save the file on your device and it will be labeled aplinefail.txt send it to me and I'm see if there is anything noticeable to help u out.

LOGCAT Files!! GoodLUCK!!
Attached are the logcats for about three minutes of being plugged in to mirrorlink. USB connection set to mirrorlink. started logcat. Attached device to head unit. Opened mirrorlink on headunit. Carmode starts automatically. Went to music app and start playing song. exit Mirrorlink app on headunit switching to bluetooth. Played music through just bluetooth no mirrorlink(still no audio)... Back to mirrorlink app on head unit. Play song again same result.
This is interesting as I have never tried to use strictly bluetooth mode on the headunit while the phone is plugged in through usb to it. Because bluetooth works when it is not p;lugged in leads me to believe that the headunit is looking for the audio to come out of bluetooth and the phone is sending it through the usb....
Anyway good luck and godspeed brave adventurer...
My experience with the Samsung apps running on other devices was that the video was horrible on all devices other than the one you specifically grabbed the app for. So the screen size is baked right into the APK in question. Made for working with it problematic. Do you know which phone's Drivelink app you are trying to get to work on your M8?
The main piece that Mirrorlink used Bluetooth for the last time I checked on it was call audio. I know your tests have been focusing on audio streaming, but it would be useful to know if you can place and receive phone calls and that side of the equation is working.
"Played music through just bluetooth no mirrorlink(still no audio)" - This part is certainly concerning. Is the Mirrorlink app or any other music app still running and keeping control of the audio stream?

I see errors in USB land all over the third logcat that you linked. Considering we have the empirical evidence that this is where we have the lack of audio it isn't completely surprising, but you can see both before the Mirrorlink connection is setup and even during the setup process, your system is firing off the likes of this:

Ok, we have a little confusion here.... So like you said I am using an M8... that part we got straight, but I am not using a samsung app at all. In the past I have tried with an M7 to flash the TMServer files and install the Drivelink.apk that was available from one of the forums, but could never get it to work....
So now... the M8 comes with a system app called CarMode from HTC. When you plug the M8 into the ICSX7 it automatically puts the phone into landscape mode and launches the CarMode app. Also there is a option under Settings>(Wireless & Networks Section) ...More>Mobile Network Sharing>USB Network Setting>MirrorLink Connection. With the description "Connect phone to head unit via MirrorLink"...
I am pretty sure that the audio when using the phone dialer built into the app does not work either... The only thing it seemed to work on was Google Hangouts Video call... Im pretty sure it was sound from car speakers but now starting to second guess myself on weather I heard it from the phone or the car... but either way it worked for sure there.
Gotcha. When you started talking about Samsung's Drivelink app in the earlier post, that's what I thought you were using. My misunderstanding.
from what i am seeing and researched the htc car mode app is whats killing the audio, and you know this because you got your audio to work for a moment when using the google now, and it was not a trick, or mishap, and no you were not imaging it. so that being said it appears the car mode is what starts the mirrorlink connect, so without the car mode launching the mirrorlink connection will not be established, however with the HTC car mode not sending audio via mirrorlink we have your current problem.
here is my idea, mirrorlink is a well establish non proprietary means of communication, so whats to stop an aftermarket, or third party app that supports mirrorlink comunications from working on the M8 so here is my idea, and ive installed it on my phone, so we atleast know it will install, launch it, go through the steps and connect it to the stereo, and lets see if it works.

the link you posted is for the same samsung "drivelink" app that I have tried before. although it must be modified some how because it actually will launch and display the warning before it crashes. But it does crash. Do you think this mabe because the car mode app is trying to launch at the same time? remember that the car mode app launches automatically when plugged into the headunit. anyway I tried a few different things to get it to work and cant make it happen.
I'm pretty sure I remember this setting being available in the preview versions just like in kitkat, but on the recently released images I cannot find the setting to change the bluetooth visibility setting to never time-out. The pioneer bluetooth stereo in my car absolutely will not recognize the presence of my phone unless it is discoverable.
Am I missing something, or has this option simply been removed.
If it has been removed I'm hoping maybe there is something I can modify to get this option back.
Thank you

If you open the bluetooth settings it says, that your device is visible to all devices as long bluetooth is enabled. Only in this screen your bluetooth device is visible to other devices.
I hope google fixes this, because its too confusing.
Yes, unfortunately that's the only reference to bluetooth visibility I have found.
My understanding in 5.0 is that your device's Bluetooth is only visible to paired devices, except when the Bluetooth Settings page is open. When the Bluetooth Settings page is open on your device it will be visible to all nearby Bluetooth devices (which is what you need when pairing). Have you paired the Pioneer Bluetooth stereo with your device?
There no longer appears to be an option as there was on 4.4 to permanently set 'Visible to all nearby Bluetooth devices'. However, why would you want that, other than when setting up pairing? It's a security risk.

I'm in your same situation, I was googling around and I found this... I'm on CM12 and wish that we can find a solution for make the bluetooth always discoverable on AOSP roms. I own a Lg G3 and on the stock Android 5.0 rom the option (like in KitKat) it still there!
The only reason I was really looking for this features is that my older Pioneer head-unit in my car (DEH-P9800BT) won't connect automatically to my phone unless the phone is discoverable. I've managed to adapt my other bluetooth connections that were set this way to work without the option, but I've tried for years (since my Palm Treo 650p) to get the head unit to connect automatically with no luck.
I am also wondering why they have hid this feature...
Looks like they are trying to go like (cr)Apple, whereas your iPhone is only discoverable within the Bluetooth menu.
I purchased the S7 hoping to utilize my head unit on my 2014 Honda Civic. I installed RockScout to ensure SOMETHING would show up and it did. I installed Car Mode through the Galaxy app store, and the app shows up under the Mirrorlink "menu" in settings under MirrorLink applications. One would think that this would mean it should show up on the car's screen when connected, but alas it does not.
Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone else been able to get this to work?
solved... somewhat
So I found a solution for those who may be having the same issue.
--- I guess I can't post links yet because I'm so new.. go to youtube and use this video id to watch: xEaR97-ETeM ---
surprisingly, this seems to have made the car mode work for me.
Perform the steps shown in the video,
Open Car Mode on your phone
Connect the phone to the car via USB
Select one of the available MirrorLink apps (in my case it was Rock Scout)
The chosen app will open and the Car Mode nav bar will appear on the left. Now you can just hit it's home button and you're taken to Car Mode.
Now I need to figure out how to get Google Maps to work on Car Mode. Currently, it looks like it only supports navigation apps that Mirror Link supports
(I'm assuming due a head-unit-display-UI not being available on Google Maps.. probably legal reasons there)
What is the title of the youtube video? I tried your link and it did not work out for me.
When I connect the Galaxy S7 to my stereo, the Samsung automatically locks on the Mirrorlink connection screen, it will not let me navigate way.

still this is strange, car mode is visible under mirrorlink certifications yet it is not visible when phone is connected to car radio
Having the same problem. 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with factory head unit. Couple mirror link apps are working fine but car mode does not show up on the head unit at all. Really want it so I can use google maps on the bigger screen.
Running a Sony XAV-601BT and same issue. It shows as connected (however get a USB device not recognized error), tried the tricks above and no dice Really disappointed so far, as my old Z2 worked fine.
Found some info in the Subaru forums. Sounds like MirrorLink 1.1 is more strict about what it allows to display. So 1.0 just kinda mirrored everything, 1.1 actually checks to make sure you don't wiggle your way into another app. Since Car Mode isn't allowed by the car, even though its MirrorLink certified, it gets blocked... Sigh...

Yes, MirrorLink 1.1 also requires each specific app to be certified before it can be displayed. I don't think Google is going to support this ever, since they are pushing their own Android Auto.
Would LOVE to see a workaround for this, purchased a mirrorlink addon for my Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS and it doesnt work properly grrr
Grrr "Smartphone Not Compatible" when trying to connect Samsung Galaxy s7 to Honda Civic 2016...Applications are certified, USB in MTP mode but it just does not work...
I've only got this to work with HTC phones. See my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhFsBz31-qU
There are other videos on youtube as well . . all using HTC phones.
I've tried my process on a couple nexus devices and samsung devices, they don't work.
Something about the HTC mirrorlink technology thats works perfectly... EVERYTHING works.
So . . . i'm currently stuck using a cheap HTC 626s phone because it works so well with my 2014 Civic si head unit.
Currently looking for a used HTC m9 or 10 so I can have a beefier phone but still retain the mirrorlink functionality.
This only worked for me so far when the ROM is stock. Dunno if has something to do with the other ROMs being rooted.. Researching, because I'd like to have a custom ROM with root AND this working.
I have a pioneer nex and a galaxy s7. The online way i found to conecct was installing sygic car Navigation, the app works with mirrorlink so it opens on the hu, then i just exit the app and boom full mirroing, the only problem is that the Phone stays locked while conected.

Do all your buttons work properly, like the the back button? On Appradio 4 with my s7 edge, I can only hit the home button which takes me back to rock scout. I haven't tried sygic

In mine only the back button of the hu is shown, the others are missing too, so i ve installed a program to simulate the buttons, its called Simple Control.
I've heard that the pioneer is easy to hack, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Linux that these seem to run? Is there a way to trick the car head unit to allow any device with a custom rom to connect to mirrorlink 1.1?
My mass storage device is recognised but the internal SD card in MTP mode isn't. Does Sygic App allow it to connect regardless?
Anyone has skills how to mod car mode app, so it works like RockScout. Apparently it only works on VW mirorlink radios, I have a Subaru with the 7" Mirrorink 1.1 inch unit and it would be nice if this software barrier can be "corrected". I have seen it show car mode when exiting the RockScout app, so I know it works, just that its blocked.
There is a way to root the phone and then install an app that runs car mode, but this doens't work in 1.1 either. I have heard that someone was running CM mod with full mirroring. Any thoughts? There must be a way in Linux to connect and change the connect settings through the app? Is it it android specifiic ie version?

I have the same vehicle. So frustrating to have a brand new car with a perfectly decent screen built in (picture of backup cam looks pretty good) and no ability to take advantage of it. They want us to pay however many thousand dollars more to use their navigation system, which I'm sure sucks out of the box and will no doubt be useless in 1-2 years anyway. It would be SO MUCH SAFER if they let us just mirror the friggin screen. You KNOW it's not that compatibility is complicated. Dicks. (I love my Subaru otherwise )
Hi All,
I'm having trouble with Bluetooth on my v10. I've looked through the forums but haven't seen any people with an issue quite like mine.
My car is a Hyundai and the radio was updated to the latest software about 6 months ago. The phone will pair fine and works perfectly for phone calls but I can't get it to play audio over bluetooth. In the bluetooth menu the "Media Option" check box is not visible at all. The particularly weird part is that while the audio still comes out of the phone the rest of the bluetooth features will work, I can change the song with the radio controls and the Artist/Title are displayed on the radio.
It works great with my soundbar, alarm clock, portable speaker, and my moms Dodge truck. That would lead me to believe it's the car however I never had any issues with my gs5 for a year and a half. I tried it with two different iphones and my roommates G4 and all of them worked perfectly.
My phone is an h900 on 5.1.1 rooted(had the same issue before root).
I'm at a loss here. Any ideas? Thanks.
I have a bug report w/ google on this. Please take a look and chime in to get them to fix this. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=221322&thanks=221322&ts=1472583426
Im going to guess you have a 2011 to 2013 hyundai right? Probably with navi?
So google is blaming samsung of course so I have an email into them. Their chat was useless.
Your device is using Samsung's heavily customised version of Android which this website has no visibility of so cannot support. You need to speak to Samsung for user support and issues with their devices and their software. Thanks.
