Mercedes Benz Bluetooth Issue - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've upgraded from my Nexus 4 to 5 and I've found that when I make or receive calls in my new Mercedes A Class the person on the other end can't hear me so seems the mic isn't working through bluetooth. The N4 has absolutely no issues with this and I could do everything. The only extra feature I've gained with the N5 is that I can now read my text messages on the screen where the N4 didn't but didn't even know that was there.
Anyone either have a Mercedes and having this issue or does anyone know what it could possibly be? It's a bit useless if I can't make or receive calls while driving and annoying that they could've gone backwards making it less compatible than the N4 was.
Only thing I thought was possibly Mercedes aren't compatible with the latest BT version but then again it should surely be backwards compatible.
Any help appreciated.
Alex

I have no issues in my CLA45 AMG. I have not used the text feature but voice control with the mic is spot on.
I did have a dealer update for the COMAND system off the lot that updated Bluetooth compatibility.

Thanks mate, strange that this is my second device as RMA'd my first for something else but that didn't work either.
I've gotta go into MB and see about something anyway so will ask if there's anything they can think of. I've not got COMMAND only the Audio 20 system so not sure if that gets any updates.

Same thing

FX35 has same exact problem

Shouldn't be anything to do with newer Bluetooth profiles, mine works perfectly with the old COMAND in my CLS which uses the Bluetooth puck in the armrest so must be using fairly old profiles. In fact I'm really pleased as it doesn't suffer any of the disconnection problems that loads of android devices suffer from like my old xperia did and I gather most Samsungs do to.

Mercedes benz bluetooth nexus 5
Hi all,
I just converted from iphone 4s to the new Nexus 5 and when I try to pair it for bluetooth hands free, the car display says "ready for telephony" but the car doesn't show up in my bluetooth devices on the phone. And yes bluetooth is turned on on the phone. My iPhones paired just fine. Any ideas? Am I missing something?

Have you selected for the car to search for device/phone or device to search for car? I had to select search from device so they both aren't searching at the same time. Try turning the bluetooth on the car off and then on and select search from device/phone, on the phone hit search for devices and see if it picks it up. After I hit search for devices the car showed. I was able to easily get it working both ways as long as I did it the right way round with one searching and one being visible.

i am not sure i am following/understanding correctly.
i turn bluetooth on on my phone then hit the "tel" button on my console and it says "ready for telephony". On the phone where it shows devices it has found, it does not show MB. Above the found devices i click to so that my nexus 5 is visible (for 2 minutes, it also shows the count down in parenthesizes) while the display on the car still says "ready for telephony" and still get nothing. could it be that the car is still searching for my old iphone? i dont know what to do.

Just putting it on the telephone screen won't get it ready for pairing it's just ready for any existing connections you have.
On my MB's screen after choosing to add my phone I have a choice whether to search for the phone via the car or to search via the phone where the car will then just remain visible without searching itself. You must have an option to add a new phone? When I changed phones it still let me add my new one even when my N4 was still listed. Maybe take a pic of your screen to show what choices you have?
When the car is ready for pairing it may just list a string of numbers (BT MAC address I guess) until selected and then it will change to MB something or another.

Bluetooth Device Problem

I have noticed a couple of times not that i will sync a BT device but a little later its removed from the list. Any thoughts? Thanks
Update. I have realized that this happens everytime i do a softreset using rebootnow app. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks
Also this happens when i turn my phone off... no one else has this problem ???
sorry to keep pushing this thread but its the most annoying bug i've ever had. I tested almost everthing except a hard reset but whenever i do a softreset my bt devices that i have paired with get erased.... any guesses
I'm having similar problems - if I turn the phone off & back on again, it won't connect to my car. The bluetooth menu still shows that it's paired, but it won't connect (even if I try to manually connect). The only way to get it to connect again is to turn bluetooth off & back on - then it connects automatically.
I've only seen it delete paired devices from the list once - that was when I rooted the phone. It hasn't deleted them since.

well my phone is rooted so i'm hoping thats not the problem. Also I just made a lengthy video to show the problem and i will post it in a little bit on here so others can see the problem.
so for some reason i can't get the video of my friends iphone 4 but i was looking through the settings.db file and i found some interesting stuff about the bluetooth devices so i was wondering if anyone could look at this and tell me if there is something wrong also can a couple of people post their settings.db file on here so i can compare. thanks
I Get This Too!
For me it seems to only "remember" the devices that have phone capability turned on.
For instance, it never loses my Jawbone headset but it always loses my Kensington LiquidAux which I use to play music through my car's stereo.
But if I turn on the LiquidAux's phone option, the Captivate remembers it.
I've also paired it with the Motorola HT820 stereo bluetooth headset and it seems to remember that one as well but that has phone option too. I'll have to try turning off the phone function and see if it remembers then.

yes that is the exact same problem I have, If i disable the phone option for the BT car stereo then in gets erased when i restart my phone but if i keep it enabled then it doesn't seem to get erased. WTF can someone provide a logical explanation for this or can someone who is rooted give a counter example
My phone is rooted and currently running the JH2 ROM.
But I have experienced this problem with the original ROM as well.
I've tested with three different Bluetooth stereo/phone devices and the result was the same with all three: remove phone option and the profile eventually disappears.
As long as you don't disable the phone option of your bluetooth device it should remain in the Captivate's profile list.

No, I'm saying that it definitely DOES have the problem. So it does not appear to be ROM specific. There is a JH3 ROM out now that I think I will try today. I'll post my findings once I've had a chance to experiment.
Also, I'd like to know if anyone running any of the other modified i9000 ROMs, like JM5, is having the same problem.
Well, I just installed the JH3 ROM but the problem is still there.
Looks like we'll have to wait for Froyo and hope for the best.
Problem FIXED in froyo ji6
I just want to let everyone know who has had this problem that it is fixed in the leaked froyo build jfyi
I can't get the Captivate to connect via Bluetooth to anything other than my car.
It pairs with my Windows 7 computer, but will not connect.
I've even tried connecting via Bluetooth to Kies without success.
Is there a way to do file transfer via Bluetooth?

I'm running froyo and it's not fixed. I didn't have this problem with android 2.1, but noticed the problem after upgrading to froyo.

Problem with Bluetooth Car kit

Hi, I'm not able to transfert the phonebook from the phone to the Bluetooth car kit. It seems to start transfert but never end. Whit the Sensation and the same car kit no problem.
Any idea to risolve?
Do you click and allow the prompt on the phone to allow the phonebook connection to start, you only get this prompt the first time the devices connect after pairing. You may need to delete the pairing information and start again to see this prompt again!
Yes, I allow the transfer of phone book just after pairing and I see the indication "phone book transfer" on display of car systems but it never ends and no contact is transfered to systems car. With same procedure the sensation works perfectly. Probably there is something on bluetooh 4.0 that is different from 3.0 implemented on Sensation. Very strange because BT 4.0 is mainly focused on energy saving and should be compatibile with previous release.
Anyone has the same issue?
Same ty[e of problem with BT Car stereo
I can't even get my One to see my Sony BT car stereo- HTC diesre was fine and streamed music and calls perfectly.
Have googled aroudn this issue but can't seem to find a good answer.

Interesting cause I have Sony DSX-S300BTX myself. if Bluetooth doesn't work on this, I will buy Galaxy Nexus instead. I stream music in my car most of the time.
I had a quite similar issue with a Seat Altea car. It was starting the sync, and arriving at 160 contacts it just hang.
I solved it by making some cleanup and by selecting only the required address book in thé htc contact list...

Any further solutions?
Thanks.

Bluetooth music issues.

Hey everyone. I'm having a very weird issue. I just bought a brand new Kenwood touchscreen head unit for my 03 WRX and have had it in for about two weeks. When i was using my galaxy note 3, the phone would pair via Bluetooth and play music and calls flawlessly.
Now that i switched to the M8 o have the phone paired. It says paired on the phone and on the head unit. I can make calls, access my phone book, but can't play music. The Bluetooth icon on the phone has the two arrows pointing in and i know on my GN3 that ment media was connected as well.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue? Thanks for any help ?
I don't have a solution for you. However when you are pairing the two have you tried going in to the Bluetooth settings and actually making sure that phone and media are both connected? I figure they both must be with it having the two arrows, but just that way we can make sure they are for sure paired.

Yeah i tried that. I tried unchecking and rechecking. I wish there were more Bluetooth settings
I have the exact same problem on a new Kenwood unit. Funny enough my old Kenwood unit (very similar) didn't do this ever. I've found that turning on my phone Bluetooth after the head unit is turned on always gives me a phone connection only. In that case you have to cycle the head unit power. Turning the phone Bluetooth on and off doesn't fix it. I'm going to reset the head unit and if it doesn't resolve it then Crutchfield will be getting this thing back.

HTC U11 MirrorLink on Subaru Legacy 2017 (Or any HeadUnit)

So I can't seem to get this to work. I downloaded Rock Scout, plugged my U11 in plugged it in, it shows "Use USB for MirrorLink" so I switch to file transfer usb and I get a new notification saying "MirrorLink Active", but my "MirrorLink" icon doesn't activate. I know the Legacy has MirrorLink v1.1, does anybody know if I have to do anything else to make MirrorLink work?
Also has anyone gotten MirrorLink to work on any car HU?
I posted a reply b4 didn't seem to work. To mirror htc u11 to a car head unit.
1. turn head unit on select mirror
2. have phone on a homepage
3. swipe up with three fingers this turns on mirroring.
4. select car entertainment system or whatever comes up on your phone.
That should mirror across it worked for me and my kenwood head unit I just installed.
remember every time you leave mirror to listen to music or directions or anything. to get back to mirroring you need to follow the steps again.
Hope that works for you as I said it worked for me. Good luck Chatto
I checked on cert.mirrorlink.com if your htc has mirrorlink and it is not showing up.
if you go on your phone settings at device connection or network connection (i don't remember exactly) can you see MirrorLink service there?
I think Subaru's mirror link version is not compatible with their crap head unit? I don't know. Yes I see "MirrorLink connection" in the USB connection settings. When plugged in, the phone thinks it's on, it just seems like Subaru's implementation doesn't recognize it, and of course a lot if not all the 2018 Subarus come with Android Auto. Guess they got tired of everyone complaining MirrorLink was foobar'd.
I stopped caring/trying. A bit of a shame actually.
What's the benefit of MirrorLink vs just bluetooth pairing? I just use bluetooth with my Kenwood, though I don't think it supports MirrorLink, and the Subi we have is a 2013, which also doesn't support MirrorLink that I know of, but also has good old bluetooth. Is there some secret i'm out of the loop about, or is it more or less trivial prefrence?
Well mirrorlink could let me use, say Waze on my headunit display instead of buying a mount and mounting my phone. The gist of mirrorlink is basically you can get your phone display on the headunit. But yes bluetooth works.
Anyway for those interested in what I see and the "version" of software on my headunit:
Settings showing mirrorlink active: http://imgur.com/a/cNymR
Notifications saying mirrorlink is on: http://imgur.com/a/TYMfM
my headunit version info: http://imgur.com/a/5cl14
Maybe its a version issue and I need an update, but bottom line is, if Subaru says they have it, and my phone has it, it should work. However judging by the feedback around the internet, it would appear Subaru is at fault here somehow. So shame on them for choosing poor technology and/or having engineers implement it poorly.
Double post. Sorry

You are correct, I didn't see it on there either. But it's clearly on the device. Check my post above. Maybe it has 1.2 on it and Subaru only supports 1.1. (They had the same issue with 1.0 and 1.1). I sent HTC a question about it so we'll see.

Connecting to Multiple Bluetooth Devices at Once?

Coming from the Galaxy S8, I was kind of disappointed to find that the Pixel 2 apparently only connects to one Bluetooth device at once. For example the phone will only connect to my car but not my headset at the same time as the S8 did. I like having that because when you don't want to take calls on the car speaker you can just send the calls to the headset without much issue. Is there anyway to get the phone to connect to multiple devices? Any mods that are available to get it working?

I've not figured out a way. In fact, as of the 8.1 update it made my bluetooth worse. When I connect to a BT device, rather its my headphones at the gym, or my car, I have to dial something and hit "dial" on my dialer. When I do that it makes the hangining up sound and then is free to be used for other things. Quite frustrating, really. :crying:
I had my p2 connected to an aftermarket head unit in my vehicle and set it to media only, connected to my Bluetooth ear piece for calls and shared my internet via Bluetooth to my PS vita at the same time. You just have to play with settings for each device.

I have wondered if its an issue with a mismatch between the two bluetooth devices.
It looks like this has been addressed somewhat in Android P. I am running the beta that was released yesterday and the device is now connecting to multiple bluetooth devices. There is a quirk that requires you to go into the bluetooth menu to change the current active device (Think it might have been like that on the Galaxy too) but it does maintain the connection to multiple devices now. It does automatically switch when you turn off one of the devices, such as your car, so this is definitely progress on this front I think.
