Hello , I hope you all doing good,I'm new , I had read a lot of Threads here , not completely but a lot of threads help me when i was completely lost so Thank to all members.
But now I got some questions about bootloader Relock , and Backup TA Partiton, first of all , I take a lot of time to do all steps because I use this Tutorial :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/how-to-unlock-bl-kernel-twrp-root-t3541648 Thanks to @DHGE and @nathan30
but fail at some points( Flash Nougat and Unlock Bootloader)
So I Downgrade to MM, I save the 'famous' TA partition, everything was good ,next step was to flash a Nougat , and I successfully do it with this thread by @Leonne: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/help/famous-fsc-file-t3571093 Thank you dude
Next steps , Unlock the bootloader , and after a lot of command fail with Flashtool and adb command( with the good code by sony official website), I do it using another thread , this one by @lucaszell :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/solved-bootloader-unlocking-problems-t2364334/page4 Thank you
I flash Androkernel and TWRP then SuperSu , I became very affraid of ' Fail messages' and I think that ' Soft Brick and Brick' can kill me.
So how can I relock my Bootloader and restore my TA partition Properly , can I follow the first thread, why I ask this question,it's because I don't do everything as write in the first thread:
Now, if you want to restore your TA partition and relock your Bootloader this is absolutely simple.
First of all, backup all the data you care of. Because your phone will be factory reset. Take your backuped TA partition and rename it TAbackup.img
Then, start your phone into recovery mode (TWRP)
Plug your phone with USB and check your device is recognized in recovery mode : adb devices
If it's okay, let's run this command now : adb push TAbackup.img /data/local/tmp/TAbackup.img
Then run this one : adb shell dd if=/data/local/tmp/TAbackup.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/TA
Well, your TA partition is now back. Plug your phone off and you just have to flash a new STOCK ROM via FlashTool.
Now you have your original DRM and your bootloader is automatically relock !
Flash the stock ROM you want with Flashtool and enjoy a fresh and clean install

Emma will not relock the bootloader. Emma is official Sony software and they do not support relocking the bootloader.
The only way back to stock with a locked bootloader is to flash a FTF then restore your TA partition.

No
Your backup contains the content of one partition.
The content of TA stays the same throughout the life of your device unless you or a malicious software fiddles with it.
According to what I did to root my phone I can backup my TA with the backup ta tool without worry?

1. with XZ its no turning back option, if you relock you bootloader, the device will keep shutting down
2. you will have to first restore TA.IMG (of your OWN DEVICE!!!!) using dirtycow script! on rooted phone having modified kernel!
3. then flash any ORIGINAL stock rom (either 6, 7 or 7.1.1)
4. using FLASTHOOL you can RELOCK you BOOTLOADER with the same key! (KEEP THE KEY SAVED)
now you will have
original stock rom installed, stock kernel, and TA.img in play! so relocking bootloader should be fine!

Well, I think @Dorynous is a bit lost but on this journey he edited post #1 in this thread. There he quoted a proper procedure to reverse the unlocking.
The procedure you describe will not work (wrong tools, no functionality for XZ, ...) at best or/and WILL brick the device.

the process described by me and mention here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/how-to-unlock-bl-kernel-twrp-root-t3541648
is similar,
you can only relock you bootloader ONCE you have TA.img instate and untouched kernel flashed.
if @Pipould just relock his bootloader, the device won't boot and keep displaying warning.

There should be no difference with unlocking bootloader for .17, .14 and so on.
-Just backup TA in case you need to relock bootloader and return phone to "factory" state (for example if you need to be repaired under warranty)
-Download Androxyde flashtool
-go to http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/ and get key
-open flashtool and unlock bootloader by issuing key you got from SoRRys
-flash either your original ftf file with ROM or whatever you want to flash as rom with either EMMA (Sony flash tool) or Androxyde flash tool
This is just an outline how you can unlock bootloader. If you need more details or you are unsure for something - please search in forum here - there are plenty of articles with detailed explanations about steps.

If you do not backup TA which is specific for every phone, you won't be able to restore it - certificates are broken irreversibly when you unlock bootloader. With broken TA will be sign of unlocking bootloader and possibility for warranty to be void.
A word of precaution.
Many ppl don't know the true risk after unlocking their bootloader.
The real risk is automatically loosing your DRM keys!
That's the real way how you will lose your warranty.
If your phone operator is cautios he will get true your factory reset and relocked bootloader....
You're been warned ppl backup your DRM keys because once their are gone....you won't be getting them back again.
Warranty is void after unlocking bootloader...
WARNING: If you lost your DRM keys dont try to recover someones else key....it will hard brick your device!

Hello,
Is it possible to Root my Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 which is currently running Android 5.0.2 without losing the DRM keys?
I don't want to have to roll back to 4.4.4, or lose any of my files.
I have a pretty slow internet so i'm not a big fan of downloading stuff, I'm just psyched to check out Xposed if it exists.
No, you must roll back to a FW ending in .93 which is KK, then root, then install recovery, then update via a pre-rooted flashable zip
I would not hold my breath for a lollipop exploit. The main reason to find one has gone (i.e there already is a way to get root on lollipop with a locked bootloader)

rooting has nothing to do with the DRM keys
you have to downgrade.
you will lose your data.
you have to download a kitkat stock rom.
No way around this if you want root.

Not if you do not wipe the data partition of flash the data partition from the FTF. You will get a lot of FC's when downgraded but this is not an issue as you will be upgrading immediately to Lollipop anyway

If he is unlocking he can flash a kernel with recovery and root via TWRP.

Please read the OP, he does not want to lose DRM keys, hence he needs to root without unlocking the bootloader first.
Also, if you have a custom kernel installed you cannot have DRM keys running, once you restore them using a TA partition restore you relock the bootloader and cannot boot on a custom kernel.

sigh,,,
No they cannot unless you have taken a backup before unlocking the bootloader.
There is a thread about restoring some functionality but it does not restore to 100% stock compared to when people have a stock ROM with DRM keys installed, and like I said, READ THE OP, he asked for a way not to lose his DRM keys, not to have the functions associated with them.
If you unlock without backing them up, you cannot restore them, FACT!
I really do not want to get into an online fracas with you, but this is the second time today you are jumping in and not giving exactly 100% correct answers to the questions asked.

OK, so we are back at the situation the OP asked, how does he root without losing the DRM keys...... Your method said to unlock the boot to flash a custom kernel... That wipes the TA partition and the DRM keys BEFORE you have had a chance to back them up.

You have already done the "hard" part. Do some reading on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 ,will be short , download zip within OP ,extract and run. You said to root by unlocking the bootloader first, then backup the TA so you are wrong. Editing your post after the fact does not change this, adding the line "Before backup TA" does not make you correct as you have to root to backup the TA.. so when you say "why revert when he can just unlock", that's why.
And finally, restoring the DRM keys after unlocking means you get a locked bootloader, so you cannot boot a custom kernel so you lose root...
The point is now moot, and you need to remember my advice on this, keep it in PM's

Your thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/help/warranty-problem-please-help-t3393053
says that you backed up TA *after* unlocking the phone. If that's true, your TA backup is completely useless, and that's why you can't re-lock.
The right way to do it was to backup your TA partition using an older Z5 firmware (I downgraded to .152 from .200 if I remember) BEFORE unlocking your bootloader.
You should have a "TA.img" or "DK.ftf" backed up somewhere containing your TA partition/DRM keys if you did it right. You flash that .ftf file using Flashtool to restore your TA parititon once you've upgraded your phone to the latest firmware

You MUST downgrade with flashtool (1) to a Lollipop build .200 (iovyroot temporary root works only on that) and then (2) restore TA.img backup you have (your personal backup from YOUR phone) using tarestore.bat from iovyroot .zip you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/iovyroot-temp-root-tool-t3349597
As said there:
"Flash stock firmware from flashtool (supported by iovyroot) (you are now unrooted)
Use tarestore.bat from iovyroot"
Don't get confused:
dk.ftf (made using TA.img) is for "getting DRM keys" on UNlocked/rooted bootloader with kernel supporting drmfix.
If you want to relock your BL you just need stock Lollipop, TA.img and iovyroot.zip

This doesn't work for me. It seems like it does, on the comptuer screen it indicates that the process is done, but in the service menu, nothing has changed. I don't get it.

As this is not your topic, you should explain from the beginning what you "don't get" and what did you do and are trying to accomplish. Noone can help if you are so generic

Sorry for being vague. I had backed up my TA partition prior to unlocking bootloader by downgrading to lollipop and using iovyroot. So to relock, I downgraded back to lollipop, and then tried the methods here. The text in the tarestore.bat that opens up does a few things, and then indicates that it's done, but my phone was still unlocked.
I then tried this:
adb push "root/iovyroot" "/data/local/tmp/iovyroot"
adb push "root/restore.sh" "/data/local/tmp/restore.sh"
adb push TA-XXXXXXXX.img "/data/local/tmp/TA.img"
adb shell
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/iovyroot
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/restore.sh
/data/local/tmp/iovyroot /data/local/tmp/restore.sh
and that finally worked. It seemed to do the exact same thing in the command prompt. So I don't know why that worked and the other methods didn't.
My 2 cents: a year ago, I needed to send my Z1 Compact for repair, and I did restore my TA backup as follows: I first restored TA-XXX.img using Backup-TA-9.XX while still using a custom rom with root (CM 12.1 actually). This soft bricked the phone (as I knew it would). Then, I flashed the latest stock firmware with flashtool, wiped everything, and boom, locked bootloader with the latest stock firmware. No need to downgrade! I don't know if it would work with a Z5, though...

You have to flash your firmware after complete the process to relock at least that worked for me.
Firmware that be compatible with iovyroot.

I didn't need to do that. I just needed to use ADB commands to get the whole thing to work. See my post above.

I didn't need to do that. I downgraded to lollipop, ran the commands, rebooted the phone, and my bootloader was locked. After that I flashed marshmallow because I don't want to be stuck on lollipop obviously, but i did not NEED to flash firmware for the bootloader lock to complete.

Well only like a simple comment I did
Downgrade lollipop
Ran adb commands tarestore TA-XXXXX.img
With flashtool flash lollipop (again)
Boot, activated developers options
Flash marshmallow
Boot and any thing restored bootloader:locked and drm marlin etc etc
And it's not necessary write in mayus I only try to help telling you how it worked for me.
Bye

So the flashtool can't relock the bootloader of the Z5?
The above steps are the only way?
Hi all,
So I read people are now able to backup TA partition (DRM Keys) before Unlocking the Bootloader.
Keep in mind my aim for instance here is to install BBS (Better Battery Stats app) onto the system partition for full battery stats.
Now my question is can the below tasks be achieved in this order.:
1. Downgrade to an exploitable Firmware (MM?)
2. Backup TA partition
3. UL BL (Unlock Bootloader)
4. Root device
5. Install BetterBatteryStats onto System partition.
6. Unroot device
8. L BL (Lock Bootloader)
9. Restore TA partition.
And where in this list would be best to upgrade to Nougat.
I believe I achieved something similar on my z5c, but it's been a while now since I've wanted to root. But given the recent TA exploits I'm thinking it's time to geek again.
I believe if we can define the above process explicitly, many people would be happy.
As much information, direction, insight, instructions on all of the points above would be greatly appreciated by and for my.fellow XZ'ers :fingers-crossed:
I'm also curious on how to unlock, root and restore
I know it was possible to be rooted with locked bootloader on Z3 but have not seen how to on the XZ yet

Its not possible to have root on a locked bootloader on the XZ.

Try this
Downgrade to MM
Backup TA
Upgrade to Nougat
Unlock bootloader and root
Install BBS
Remove root and relock bootloader
I have no guarantee it will work though and the DM-verity would probably lead to a bootloop or a non booting device. Be sure you know how to get out of this before you proceed.

What's the reason for this?
Doesn't the Z3 have similar protection as the XZ?

No, the XZ has verified boot security (DM-verity). The bootloader will not allow a non signed kernel to boot. Stock kernels will not allow a modified system to boot. Hence you need to unlock the boot for the phone to boot if you change the system partition by just one bit....

Okay that makes sense, so with it being unlocked is there any way to hide the device unlocked screen at boot?
Im sure I also have seen talks about DRM keys being flashed in and being possible to use with unlocked bootloaderers did anything ever come of that?

I do not know any way of hiding the screen. Also, the DRM fix that is used with an unlocked bootlader is not a full restore of the keys. DRM functionality is restores and to my knowledge it is not 100% the same as restoring the TA partition fully.

After some research it seems like this warning is stored in the logo.
I found a post from a few months back with a guide on how to remove it for the Moto G4
Maybe its the same for our XZ?

Not sure I follow your procedure, seems redundant, I assume you've missed out a few steps there by accident.
But thanks anyway.
However, if the DM verity you mention does what it should then I guess by editing the system partition as I proposed and then relocking would cause a bootloop.
I hope there is a way and perhaps others can share more insight.

Your quote has missed some of the steps I mentioned...
•Downgrade to MM
•Backup TA
•Upgrade to Nougat
•Unlock bootloader and root
•Install BBS
•Remove root and relock bootloader
But yes, I presume a bootloop will result from it

It won't work! As @gregbradley said, dm-verity does not allow unsigned partitions (eg modified /system) to be loaded, and the procedure you wanna try will result in a bootloop for sure!
Now that we have a specific tool to perform backup of TA partition, "safe" root came true. So why not to do that?
You can always restore your original TA.img and flash full stock firmware, which will give you a locked device like the never-unlocked one!
Anyway... try it at your own risk!

Just realised, you won't need to convert anything!
In TWRP, select - Install Image (under Install button on the home menu) and locate the TA.img from there.
Apparently, you might not need to flash stock firmware afterwards, but I would do that if I were you just to make sure everything works cleanly!

Why did Sony do that?
I just dont want to see ads in games and apps.
For these, root was enough. At least my old Z3 phone.
I do not want to open the unlock bootloader, because the device may have serious performance degradation especially on the camera, right?!
Is it possible in the near future to make root without unlock bootloader ?
P.S.: If I knew that, I would not buy XZ.
please stop the discussion on SONY's security measures here

This has been beaten to death in the post Z3 devices fora.
You can read A LOT about in e.g. the Z5 section.
Authorative Guide:

Edit: Solved. Thank you. See the second post for the update.
Hello. I have been away from the forums for a long time and seems like a lot has happened.
I want to unlock my bootloader and then install Existenz Rom but the guide threads are a bit old and couldn't see
relevant information about oreo.
I'm on 41.3.A.2.75 / R2E HK firmware.
F8332
Do i need to downgrade to MM?
Which thread should I follow?
Do I need TA partition fix for Existenz Rom?
Thank you for your help.
Solved
I have followed the steps on the linked thread without any issues:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/help/sony-xperia-xz-dual-f8332-unlock-t3640302
Now I am following the instructions on Existenz Rom Page. Hopefully I will be able to install it without any issues.

Yes, I did downgrade MM through FlashTool.
I did a google search and found a Customized India MM FTF. If I remember correctly it was in the first 5 results.
Make sure you disable encryption/device password before downgrading. I got stuck on the enter pin screen because my phone would not accept my pin. Had to spend 20 minutes to hard reset it.

Hi!
Do you backup and restore the TA partition? Or this step is not necessary to use ExistenZ?
It's imperative to downgrade to MM or I can achieve root permissions in Oreo?

I have backed up the Ta partition on MM. I did not restore it on existenz. I guess existenz has its own fix.
As far as i know you need to unlock in order to root your phone. To unlock your phone you need to be on MM.
Just follow the guide step by step. Then install Existenz. It worked fine for me.
There is no point in restoring the TA, that relocks the bootloader!!
The point about backing up the TA is so that is you want to go back to stock you can do and restore all DRM functionality. However, if you restore the TA you cannot have an insecure kernel.
