try to dry and clean the jack slot
had the exact same problem with my Z3 and when i first had my Z5 would do exactly whats happening with yours when ever i plugged my headphones in or anything into the headphone jack. but since moving to nougat it went away. i reckon it was a software issue and mainly with MM. Even trying to do a full restore would still have the same issue.

Sometimes I get to use my 3.5mm output either with headphones or my stereo and it works fine. Then later in the day it will not output through the jack, only the speakerphone. I have to reboot the phone (soft or hard) to get it working again. I haven't seen a pattern leading up to this.
bump, is anybody else experiencing this?
sounds like a linux bug

I have experienceed this on two occasions as well. I hope it is something that can be easily remedied.
I told HTC about this issue while returning my Nexus One for a faulty power button. I'll report back if they leave me any information on it's return.
I am having this issue as well
i have had the issue, rebooting did not help but it started to work again after a week or 2... lol i don t remember
Update: so I had the phone warrantied for a faulty power button a couple of months ago and when I got the phone back (didn't do an exchange) I had a new IMEI number and the headphone jack worked perfectly, until last week. The headphone jack (3.5mm) stopped working. I have done hard resets and the jack still won't work so I am getting an exchange, arriving today.
New phone works good. Tried the old phone one more time after a hard reset and still nothing.

My gf's N1 is doing the exact same thing. She said it started maybe two weeks ago. She has had the phone since July. Has anyone found a resolution for this? She restarts the phone but that obviously can become a nuisance after while.
Do you not read? It's a short thread. "had the phone warrantied" Your girlfriend must be impressed with your resourcefulness.
I had the same problem... except mine was in reverse. My phone thought it was always in headset mode (like a headset was plugged in).
It wouldn't output any sound unless I turned the speaker on. I could remedy the problem by playing a song and playing with the headphone jack, barely making contact with the ports internals until it played through the normal speaker.
This would work until I rebooted, which then it would think the headset is plugged in again. So basically the jack was flaky.
I had some dust under my bottom left screen too, but they did a warranty exchange and the new one is working perfectly.
I have a TF101 ( B80KAS179xxx) and from a few days ago I couldn't replay any sound (speakers or headphones, even giving me the headphones connected information in the screen).
I tried to replay all kind of sounds (Youtube, MP3 file, etc) and the sound setup seems normal, with all the volume at the highest level.
As I were a root user using the original ROM from ASUS, I have successfully installed the latest KatKiss release for TF101 in order to check if it was a software/firmware problem.
Now, when I open youtube or any other app with sound it doesn't plays at all. Anyone can help me figure out how to solve this problem? It looks weird not to have sound from speakers and headphones.
Thanks for your help guys!
Nuno
If there is still no sound even after flashing a new ROM then it's likely a hardware fault
Maybe something inside the headphone socket has broken and is disconnecting the speakers like it should when headphones are connected, but also not working for the headphones because it is damaged
Try pushing headphones in and out of the socket a few times fast to try free the moving connectors inside, or see if you can use a thin piece of plastic to make sure nothing is snapped or stuck inside the socket

Sory but I have explained myself wrong: the headphones connection indicator in only shown when I connect headphones (they don't even play any sound at all)
Is there any app or something that can be run in order to check if it is an hardware fault?
Yes I understand, but there could be a fault inside the headphone socket stoping the speakers working, I don't know of any apps that can look for hardware faults but as you have flashed a new ROM id say it is almost definitely hardware causing the problem unless you didn't wipe everything in recovery
Try wiping everything and flash a new rom 100% clean

I'm having an issue with my Idol 3 5.5". It functions normally when in handset or speaker mode I can hear the other party and they can hear me, but when I connect to my car's Bluetooth people tell me they can't hear me or it sounds like the mic is far away and under water. I did not have this problem with my last phone so I do not believe the issue is with my car (it's a Grom unit) I have only had this phone for a couple weeks and have had the issue from the beginning.
I'm running 6.0.1 stock ROM build 7VAB-UEB0
So far I have tried:
turning off and on Bluetooth on my phone during or right before calls
unpairing and repairing my car
I am charging an old Bluetooth earpiece to try that today and make sure it isn't an issue with my car.
Anyone else have this issue and were you able to solve it?
Me too, dont know what to do

Not the same issue. That thread is talking about poor/low microphone when recording video. This thread is about poor microphone quality through bluetooth, which does not use the phone's microphone.
I'm still trying to determine what the issue is. I tried using an old bluetooth headset and the test call was fine so I will try it tomorrow while driving to confirm. It might be that the Idol doesn't like certain bt devices.
hi guys i've tried to search the forum but haven't found anything...
since yesterday my phone has started to reproduce audio/sounds in a strange way; they are metallic/scratched like. the problem is for system sounds and for anything reproduced (youtube/spotify/...)
when I make phone calls i can hear correctly.
anyone has ever heard about this kind of problem?
the phone is fully stock and has been bought in august...
thanks for helping
Do you solve it?
I have the same problem, sometimes the audio sound scratched, in little parts ,unintelligible sometimes I solve with the putting 3/4 times the audio jack usbC sometimes restarting, and sometimes repair by it self. I don't understand how this happen and how to solve it. Restarting /formating resolve partially, and the problem appear again.
Hi,
I faced similar issue too. But as a different an addition, my phone has same noise on voice calls too. The noise on phone calls disappear when I used earphone instead ear speaker.
The metalic noise is starts when I touch an icon on the screen in order to start an application. It's vanish when the application starts properly.
Is there anyone faced this issue too?

in my case not work headphones. After i change Miui and install Kali linux and back my headphones dosnt work with any headphones.
Finally I noticed by accident (in my case) the problem solve when I push not so hard the upper left corner, and this solution fix instantly the audio issue, and last many months until I put the smartphone in stretchy jeans pockets. That mean maybe it’s bending and moving inside parts or maybe the previous user of my phone dropped (cause i buyed used) or I dropped (I don’t remember phone hard drops) . In this time I don’t want spent money fixing this, so I still using fixing in this way. I love this phone
I have exactly the same problem. I already tried to out a replacement speaker in the Mi Mix 2s but that didn't solve the issue. The problem comes from another component. Have you figured out which component this causes?
My root cause is also unknown but might be that the phone dropped.

What I tried so far.
1. Set phone to factory settings
2. Installed different ROM (Lineage OS 17.1)
3. Replacement speaker.
None of this helped. What I'm wondering is, that everything else works fine. Only sound output is distorted.
Can you help me with that?
can some one help me with a xiaomi mix 2s audio problem audio doesnt work and even with bluetooth devices im not sure if its a software problem
or a hardware
So I rooted my Z5 a while ago (around 1 year ago), I can't even remember exactly how I did it. However, I recently noticed that I don't have real stereo sound. I tried out one of these YT videos testing right and left channel. But the sound always came out of both sides no matter what.
I can tell for sure that my headphones aren't the issue since I tries them out on another smartphone and the stereo functions fine. And I can also tell that the headphone jack isn't the issue either because I tried it out with Bluetooth (and cable previously).
So how can I fix it? Have I accidently deleted something or is rooting the Z5 automatically removing stereo ability? Is it tied to this DRM-key?
Please keep answers a bit noob friendly, I don't have that much experience and I'm running out of idea to fix this issue.
Same issue after rooting. Noone knows how to fix that? is that because of lost DRM keys?
