How do i enable USB mass storage on the Galaxy J7? - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

How do i enable USB mass storage on the Galaxy J7? I can transfer some files using MTP mode, but when I connect the J7 to my computer I can only see certain files. USB mass storage mode should allow me to see all files, I think. The phone isn't rooted. I want to transfer a couple roms for an emulator into the correct directory. I can't even see the directory the emulator created.

Never mind. I was able to make the required directories in MTP mode. I'm still curious if there is a USB mass storage mode on the J7 though...

u can do it in twrp recovery

Galaxy Note 10.1, USB Mass Storage Mode, Questions and Options please?

Okay, USB Mass Storage mode, what about it?
My Galaxy Note 5.3 with ICS has it. My Galaxy S3 with ICS does not have it.
I've been Googling for hours, and getting nowhere. The Samsung website says the N8000 has "USB Mass Storage Mode". But two posters on XDA say that it does not.
What I like to do is keep my PC file directory synced to my Samsung device. On my old Galaxy Tab 7 Classic, I can just plug it in (USB Mass Storage Mode), and it mounts and works. I then use ROBOCOPY (Windows rsync wannabe) and it syncs up just fine, and very quickly. I've got it in a batch file, I just plug in, double-click the icon, and it goes.
On the S3, MTP mode, as everyone seems to already know, doesn't cut it at all. It can't detect dates or metadata, so it wants to re-copy everything, in very slow MTP mode. UGH!
Prior to the ICS update for my note 5.3, I just rooted and used Samba.
So my questions:
1. Can someone definitively confirm whether the GT-N8000 Galaxy Note 10.1 has true USB Mass Storage mode support, or not?
2. If not, do we think Samsung is going to add it, as they did with the Galaxy note 5.3?
3. If not, is Samba the right way to go here? Is there a better way?
4. I've heard that "Airdroid" might be good, but does it support syncing a la rsync or robocopy?
5. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to proceed?
Thank you all so much for your patience and guidance!
Glen

My Galaxy S2 has USB Mass Storage mode... and I'm very dissapointed that the Note 10.1 does not have USB Mass Storage mode. Why do they keep changing these file structures... its so inconsistent.
One of the reasons I jumped from Transformer Prime TF201 to the Note 10.1 is because I thought the file structure in the Note 10.1 is better sturctured, just like the S2.
Anyone has any work around this? I do not want to always remove my microSD card all the time.

In settings/developer options, select usb debugging. Then when you connect to pc you should get mass storage hookup
You just need the MTP drivers .........
On WinXP machines mostly You will have to download KIES , install it to get drivers installed but not run it, connect 10.1 via USB and voila You will have a folder showing "phone" and sdcard folder.
Now You can use the sdcard card as mass storage. Only when it comes to transfer of files not recognized by Android or the device it will ask You wether it should be copied , just click yes.
On most win7 pcs Sammy devices are recognized automatically as MTP ...........
Same issue here , and for windows 8 i can't get the right drivers for it , the pc can't recognize the device in case i installed last version of Samsung Kies
The Note 10.1 uses MTP like the S3. I used this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 on my Note 10.1 and it lets me mount the external micro SD card when I plug it into my Windows 7 computer. You have to be rooted w/ busybox installed. It should work for the S3 also, since that is what it was made for.
Good luck!
go to settings...
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 on galaxy note which runs MTP mode by default.
Usb mass storage mode can be enabled from settings-> wireless and network (more) -> usb utilities... turn on mass storage
There u r... hope it helps
is there a mod for the note 10.1 for ums?
Bump for an old question -

If you are able to mount the internal sd as card in your pc then you should be able to do it, since it would be acting like any other hard drive
I dont think this is possible with stock firmware.. but if you are able to install an asop rom like CM then you might have option to do it by using some app like ums mass storage enabler or so..

I still get it, but when you plug in the device check the screen and toggle your connection settings on the USB popup.
do you have a SD card or are you just using the internal?

Yea, make sure you check the phone to make sure it is set as a storage device.

do u have a custom rom? i had this happen with jellywiz custom rls 2, was your developer mode turned on? try connecting it as a storage devide (mtp) instead of as a camera with developer mode on...
this solved the issue for me, i think...
I cannot get Mtp to work with debugging on. Turn it off, and it works fine. Unrecognized device, sd cards greyed out with debugging on. (fyi running synergy)
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

I cannot connect with computer via usb

I Instalet many roms and on everyione was working perfectly before some time i instaled viper 1.3.2 and when i conect it to computer my phone is only charging now i instaled cyanogen mod 10.1 its not working again only charging.
I selected file transfer in settings>storage> menu but still nothing can anyone help me please...
ViperS uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and not UMS mode (USB Mass Storage mode) (as like CM, MIUI, etc).
Just go to My Computer and you'll find an entry "HTC Sensation Z710e". Double-click on it and it will show you your SDCard

I checked that already i read on this forum about that but nothing of that is working i also tried on diferent computers first is saying unknown device and after that i try MTP and usb mass but nothing ... Something else
What exactly you want to do ?
If you want to transfer files to phone or take backup of SDCard then boot into 4EXT Recovery > Connect USB cable to phone > Select "Toggle USB storage" (or something like that). Your phone will now show up in My Computer as a new drive. You can do whatever you want including Formatting
Good Luck !!!

FIRST: calm down please
Which version of CWM is installed? You can mount USB storage in the recovery and simply copy a rom to your sdcrad as it will be handled as usb mass storage. In case you can't mount storage --> we'll get it working another way
WHY you use adb to copy files? Mass storage is even more easy + safe

Device must connected to pc... If it does not mount try restarting the recovery and do again. Close all adb instances on your computer.

Use OnePlus One as USB mass storage device?

How can I use my OnePlus One as USB mass storage device? I dislike MTP.
I do like this-
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Connect to PC
3. Enter recovery mode
Now drivers will load automatically and you can exchange data in Mass Storage Mode.

Really? It will be detected as a USB drive??? Is this with a particular recovery or will TWRP do it? I'd like to add a partition to my phone that will contain a bootable Linux distribution so that I can use my phone as a rescue disk. Would this be possible?

Will look into this. Thanks!
I just looked into it and got nothing. It talks over usb, but no USB Mass Storage support (reading Linux dmesg to test). I looked over TWRP, and it looks like the disabled USB Mass Storage when Android shifted away from having a separate FAT filesystem you could mount under Windows. Your SD Card is now a directory under /data and most kernels don't have the ability to even export USB Mass Storage anymore because, as ext4, Windows will tell you that the drive is unformatted and ask you to format it for you!! And that would mean losing the entire /data partition. Basically USB Mass Storage is gone. I'm thinking with a custom kernel and maybe compiling TWRP myself, I might be able to get it back, but its going to be far from trivial. I think the end result (a recovery system that I can boot a PC from in an emergency with plenty of tools) will make a great addition to my phone.
TWRP is supposed to support MTP now, but its not working for me. I end up using USB OTG for "bare clean wipe" flashes.
Any news? Unfortunately, since it was upgraded to lollipop I can not connect the OnePlus one to my car radio as a removable disk. It remains uncomfortable leaving your phone in recovery to use UMS
