[Q] SM-G995FD on Freedom Mobile LTE - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I have been trying to get my LTE working on my Samsung S8+ SM-G955FD with Freedom mobile. I have updated the CSC to XAC and GLW from the development forums and the phone will not connect to LTE at all. However flashing it to tmobiles CSC I was able to get LTE as it uses the same band 66. I initially got LTE by selecting the network operator "Home" once I lose connection from LTE to 4G it will not automatically reconnect back to LTE unless I select the network operator again. Any suggestions on fixing this?

Same issue with Reliance JIO (India) using VO LTE. Seems the phone does not support it either (the 6GB Ram Model)

up!
my 3g does work but lte not always!

I found this article around flashing csc, it seems like it's proven to work when they are the same model eg both g950w.

I would like to ask if you rooted your phone and changed the CSC as per instructions given in the Droidview website?
If you did, and the results were not satisfactory, then you would have tripped Knox, but gained little.
I am in the same situation, and am considering rooting the phone to try the method in Droidview.
Thanks.

I got s8+ from freedom and trust me I absolutely hate their reception. On a drive home or from I get interruptions of voice call for 5+min (highway drive) in some areas. Anywhere in US call reception is hit or miss. In Canada isnt always great other. Now for LTE well, it ok if you catch LTE signal. Allot of the times im on 4g. Speed are very slow. If im lucky I get LTE. So i don't know whether its the service or the phone but im not happy. I'll pay of this phone and move back to FIDO or on US network. Freedom is garbage to me. Im all over the city, country and north america - freedom isnt great for me. Fido was excellent but i didnt get any credit on the phones, in US fido rates are very high.

Verizon S GS3 on Straight Talk

Hi all,
With Verizon releasing officially, the update making its SGS3 Global ready atleast for voice as of now, a lot of discussion is happening right now about the Global capabilities.
FYI. I'm a good reader and explorer on hofo, androidforums and xda. So any guidance is highly appreciated
So here is my question.
I have a Verizon S GS3. It is brand new.
1. Can I use it with Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM ( T-Mobile has good coverage near my house ) after doing the rooting, unlocking, etc. etc all the technical stuff
2. If I unlock the phone, will it be truly global capable, I mean, can I use my S GS3 on any GSM Network in the World, even in the USA, with 3G Speeds? Did anyone use it in any Country with 4G LTE Speeds?
3. I know this is really a very very strange question. But after unlocking the S GS3, will it be working on the AT&T LTE Netowrk in the USA? My thinking is, if it working in the LTE Network in the USA, then it will work in other countries as well, where LTE Network is going to be available in the future. Sorry, I know this is a bit weird.
If You can please refer and threads or links, it is fine with me. I'm also looking and not depending only on the answers that I get from this thread. But looking for replies/guidance/links though.
Thank You.
hope this is the answers you are looking for

for Q1:yes you well be able to use any network... install any mod now most of them are already rooted and unlocked
for Q2:yes you can... all you need to ddo is to download a program called hiapn.. wipe the existing apn settings.. then auto detect and you are good to go 3g and hspa
Q3: yes it works thanks to the magic of hiapn software... but not many countrys use LTE .. usa canada japan and maybe few others
Verizon SGS3 on any GSM Carrier
Hi experts,
I have a small doubt here.
If the Verizon SGS3 can be used with any GSM Carrier around the world, then that means, the Verizon SGS3 can be used with AT&T or T-Mobile as well along with Verizon Network.
But the T-Mobile or AT&T Versions cannot be used on the Verizon's Network. Is that true?
I'm have got a traveling assignment coming up to Europe this Summer and I need to know what is the best possible solution out there before I leave.
Thank You.
Verizon's GS3 uses CDMA technology for the phone calling and data, as far as I know the SIM in the verizon version is only used for LTE.
From what I have read in forum posts, (this one in particular http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013647) if you pop in a SIM card, calling and texting should work. If you want data to work then you need to change some APNs around. Stock touchwiz does not allow this so you would need an app to do that. AOSP ROMs should have a way for you to edit APNs.
On the topic of getting 4G on any other network besides Verizon, that is fairly unlikely as they all use different technologies/ bands. Verizon has LTE, T-Mobile has HSPA+, not entirely sure what AT&T has but I think its also LTE.
This phone will take any SIM card cut to micro-size.
3G+ speeds depends on the frequency the carrier uses. The VZW GS3 uses the following radio frequencies after the JB update: GPRS/EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900); HSPA/UMTS (2100) [I had to search high and low to find this for my trip to China]
Each LTE carrier uses different radio frequencies, and global countries also use LTE frequencies different than the US ones. 4G is a very varied standard at the moment.
If you want fast internet on a non VZW carrier, it better have HSPA+, otherwise you are on 3G at best.
Right now, the only truely global phone is the iPhone5 on VZW, which supports 5 different LTE frequencies. Sad but true.
The US based SG3's dont even have the FM radio that the international versions have

Yeah, my girlfriend has a verizon s3 and with straight talk she is only on edge it never changes. It makes the phone nearly useless. Ive tried to talk her into letting me flash and unlock it but she isnt real interested in it. I dont even know forsure if unlocking the bootloader downgrading to 4.1.1 and using the att sim unlock method would work but I would assume that flashing it would allow you to at least get 3-4g. not?

Note 5 on Canadian GSM network

I am in Canada on Rogers/Fido network. I bought a Sprint note 5, it works OK in my house but loses signals at various other locations. is there any way this could be fixed?
Short answer: nope.
Longer answer: You probably already know that the N920P supports only some of the LTE bands in use in Canada, specifically for Fido/Rogers it's only one of them. In practice, having used both an N920P and a N920W8 on Fido, while the W8 shows a way better signal most of the time, when the cell is congested it doesn't really feel any different. I don't know why this is exactly, but as an example - on the train platforms in Union Station, the Sprint phone would show no connection/poor connection and the Canadian phone would show a good connection. On either phone, transfer speeds are reduced to a trickle.
P.S. if you don't already have it, Package Disabler Pro can get rid of the stupid Sprint activation screen every time you power cycle the phone

T-Mobile LTE in US isn't working...ideas?

I imported the 8141 from Clove in the UK. So far, my only real issue is I have yet to see it connect to LTE. I've seen "4G" and "4G+", but no LTE...which is a problem because I can barely pick up a signal other than LTE in my area. I checked and confirmed it's using the correct APN (fast.t-mobile.com). I'm on the 110/unlimited/unlimited $30/month prepaid plan and confirmed I haven't hit the LTE cap. If I put the SIM back in my Moto X Pure/Play, it hops on LTE without a problem.
Everything I've read says the radio should support T-Mobile's frequencies. Is there another setting somewhere I need to change? Do I need to flash another region's stock ROM (and is that even possible yet)? Did I get a lemon? Do I need to hold it a certain way like whatever iPhone it was a couple years back?
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
4G+ is the UK's LTE as far as iconography is concerned. Have you done a speediest on 4G+?
I've noticed the same thing, but I (as mentioned above) thought that LTE and 4G+ were synonymous. I think the only reason to flash a region based image would be to enable radio bands that are disabled based on location (which may be in this case).
Works fine here. Lower Manhattan using same version.
4G is LTE in US.
Download LTE Discovery and you'll be able to see if it is connected to LTE or HSPA(+). Mine, also from Clove, is just fine with AT&T LTE.

4G is basically the same thing as LTE in this case. 4G includes WiMax and LTE. So when you see "4G" it means you're using LTE. The same goes with 4G+ - LTE-Advanced (LTE+).
I have LTE logo on my Z3 while Z5 Premium shows 4G while using the same network.
4G is LTE in europe. We did not have that silliness that some 3,5G was called 4g. Also there is no band limitations on XZ Premium.
For app to check which band of spectrum you are connected to, please use Cellmapper app (from my signature).
If you wish to see different icon in there, you could flash Customized DE firmware which has "LTE" icon. But this has only cosmetic effect.
Instead of making a new thread, anyone knows if VoLTE works with the XZ Premium for T-Mobile?
Currently no. You need region or operator specific image Flashed (oem.sin) but there is none for XZ Premium.
But there is hope as there is t-mobile us specific modem configuration in all region images.. which will be loaded when you have correct oem image Flashed.

Will AT&T SIM card work on cdma and gsm networks in Mexico. (SIM Unlocked S8+)

I am traving to Cancun Mexico on the 23 of june. I currently have an AT&T SIM inserted into my SIM Unlocked S8+. I know AT&T has service in Mexico, but as far as I know the best they got is 3G. I was wondering if I was to go outside out of their AT&T coverage and into another companies coverage while in Mexico Whether it be CDMA or GSM. Would the phone work on all their network bands, or would it be only GSM bands because of the AT&T SIM inserted? Another option I thought about was getting a different SIM in mexico. That might be a better option just in case roaming on my phone is not possible with other carriers out there that aren't GSM supported.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Really hope someone has the answer to my question, because google sure didn't lol.
Hi
If you have an AT&T Sim and your plan has international calls, text and data you don't have to worry, is like you're in home.
I went to Vegas a few months ago and had no problems, the only problem is that if you want to make calls to local numbers you have to dial the country code before the phone number. (Don't worry when you Google any phone they give you the whole number with the country code)
Also in Mexico there's only GSM Networks, we use to have CDMA but is now discountinued and is only for military use, as for the coverage you don't have to worry unless you get far away from the city maybe if you go to the pyramids you'll get reception but I don't know I don't use to go to Cancun.
Plus, I don't know how Americans think in Mexico we don't have LTE?? Yes we have LTE and in lots of places and it has the same average speed that in USA, you'll get like 15 Mbps in busy hours and like 30+ or 40+ at night, I'll attach you a screenshot from my speed test. (I live in a small city it's probably you'll get better speed in Cancun)

Thanks for all your helpful information. You cleared up a lot of information that I needed to be answered lol. Although I have one more question. If I have a AT&T SIM inserted will my unlocked phone work on other Bands not supported by AT&T in Mexico, or am I stuck with the the Bands AT&T supports?
The 3G service of AT&T in USA is 850 band. In Mexico all carriers uses the same band for 3G (H+)
For LTE, mexican carrier Telcel uses AWS Band (1700-2100) and, as far as i know, AT&T Mexico uses the same band for LTE service.

Why your S8 does have the LTE icon and mine doesn't have it ?
I'm on Telcel and when I'm put the same Sim card on my Lumia 950XL there shows the LTE indicator without an issue. But my S8 doesn't show the LTE indicator. Always says 4G.
AT&T Mexico uses the same bands that AT&T USA so it won't be a problem as long you're using an AT&T Sim.

That's because the Root files in your phone every carrier put some custom files in their phones, I use to change the icons in my S6 by editing the CSC file, also other people change the build.prop file to make the phone think is from another carrier and country.
Of course you need Root if you want to change the icons.

Nope, my Galaxy is from AT&T I haven't checked the CSC but I think I'll be IUS (from Iusacell) ir maybe other code for AT&T Mexico, still I haven't rooted my phone to check it.
You can flash a CSC from an American carrier if you want the LTE icon, personally I don't like the LTE icon in my phone shows 3g (H) 4g (H+) and 4g LTE (for LTE... XD), I just prefer the 4g icon for LTE.

Question 3g connectivity on pixel 7 pro

I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated from my p7p cellular connectivity, especially 3G.
It is almost nonexistent, I tried to flash multiple roms , factory images , different carriers , rooting , with no use.
I tried using network guru to force the modem to use wcdma , with no luck .. I spotted my phone using wcdma UMTS couple of times , so there is no defect in the modem .
I'm always unreachable unless I forced it to use GSM .
Any idea how to resolve it , or workaround it ?
Can I erase modemst1 /2 and check ,or it is risky ?
Please I need help
Are you in the USA? Because 3G is either phased out or will be very soon for most networks.
I have to ask "why" are you trying to use 3G? The phone is capable of 5G and in the event that 5G is spotty you can turn 5G off and use 4G/LTE exclusively which will allow you to make calls and have data access at the same time. 3G is nearly obsolete. YMMV

I know, but here in Jordan ,3g still active for calls , volte is only provided by one carrier. And naturally, you won't be able to call using only lte coz by default, when you make a call , the phone switches from lte to 3g, and when 3g is unavailable it switches to GSM . And it's going to take long time to switch between those bands. I'm mostly unreachable by this process
So by default it's NR/LTE/ wcdma / GSM ..

Meanwhile here people have no idea what volte is and carriers dont enable it by default, i have to call them to enable it for me every time i switch a phone. 3G is still the most used network for calls there, even though 4G has even better and more stable coverage. I live in the european union.
I am only familiar with 3G with Verizon in the United States with the US version of the p7p with Verizon modem. The bands associated with 3G Verizon work well when you are outside of major cities and go more rural. But, max speeds of CDMA with Verizon bands are sub optimal at 1mbps. The call quality is great though as the old Verizon commercials "can you hear me now" reflect.
