Hello everyone,
I am having an issue with the Bass Booster app after I made it a system app. I did so through Link2SD. After the conversion, the app just disappeared from the app tray and it was no where to be found. I finally found it in the data folder of my root browser and changed the permissions to rw-r--r-- and rebooted my phone. Still the app doesn't appear in the app tray. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Uninstall/remove/delete it then boot to recovery and wipe cache then reboot and reinstall it like normal.
Edit: in your screenshot, it shows the folder but it has no icon on the folder, that means the app is no longer there, look in the bass boost folder, I'll bet it's empty but there's supposed to be an .apk file there for the app.

If you have custom recovery, boot to recovery and wipe oly the cache and Dalvik/ART cache, DO NOT FACTORY RESET.
If you have stock recovery, boot to recovery and wipe cache partition, DO NOT FACTORY RESET.
If you did everything correctly, this should reload the app.

No, I think you might be alright if you just leave it and boot to TWRP then tap the "wipe" option, then tap "advanced wipes" then select cache partition and Dalvik/ART cache, then slide the slider to wipe them, do not wipe system or data, only the caches, then reboot. If you have everything right it will load the app as a system app and be in app drawer, if it isnt, let me know.
I think you may have only missed that one step, any time you are adding apps to system or removing apps from system, you have to boot to recovery and wipe the caches then reboot.

Sometimes, it depends on the app, the device it's installed on and/or Android version. No way to know for sure which ones unless you try them.

Hmm. Delete it from /system/priv-app, if it's in its own folder in /system/priv-app then delete the whole folder, then go to /data/data and delete the bass booster folder.
Then boot to recovery and wipe the caches again, then reboot, reinstall bass booster.
Then install ES File Explorer, enable root explorer in ES File Explorer, then mount r/w permissions, then go to /data/data, find the bass booster folder, press and hold on the folder(do not open the folder), tap the "more" button, select "move to", navigate to /system/priv-app, place the bass booster folder in /system/priv-app folder, then exit ES File Explorer.
Then reboot to recovery, wipe both caches, reboot.
Then send if it's working right, if not, go to /system/priv-app and make sure it has system app permissions.

You aren't properly rooted then or something.
Use root browser then, just move the whole folder(not just the .apk), make sure app permissions are correct. Then after you move it, boot to recovery and wipe caches then reboot. This is more reliable than using links2sd or other apps to convert apps to system apps

I am properly rooted. I checked that and if I wasnt, the rest of the apps requiring root wouldnt have been working.
The permissions should be rw-r--r-- right?

Yes, rw-r--r--
Sometimes, root checker says you are rooted and root apps work but there will be some root processes that fail, these devices are partially rooted. It happens a lot with devices that use Kingroot or Kingoroot.

simply unzip the file, use root explorer to copy the lib file and the app, set app permissions correctly, install, then reboot!

that is why you have to set permissions correctly.
Did you move it to system/app wwith root explorer?
Make sure the top row of permissions all have check marks.(leave the others that are already checked off checked, I sometimes jusst check off all 9 permissions boxes if unsure)
Reboot your phone, and voila widgets will be working

It's funny everyone is hating on it in the CM9 thread. Personally I find it very smooth and much different from the old touchwiz.
I have my icons themed with a CM9 theme too and I like how it keeps the theming.
I have an awesome red ics theme.
I too have tried everything under the sun even begging cursing kicking and even tried praying and I still can't get it to work.. I tried installing the zip in cwm and it didn't install tried unzipping it and dropped the apk in system app folder aannk didn't work after unzipping tried installing the apk like you would any other it showed up as an option in the launchers but when I tried to run it of course it just force closed so I tried moving the library file still force close tried fixing permissions wiping cache and dalvick cache still force close tried settings apps all touchwiz home clear data still force close. Worked for everyone else so I'll give simple steps.
Use root explorer.
Copy the apk to system/app
Set permissions correctly on it (check all 9 boxes if unsure) but don't install yet
Copy the lib to system/lib
Reboot phone
Then use root explorer and go to system/app
Click on the launcher apk and choose install.
There you go

That's because you don't flash in cwm. Follow the exact instructions in post above and it will work but you have to follow them step by step no shortcuts you must do it exactly like it says.

I did flash the .zip file in CMW, and then rebooted the phone. But nothing changed ! I've done this many times, but no luck. I've just wiped out everything and done a factory reset, then got my phone ugraded to ICS, installed CMW, superuser, and tried to do this again. But it won't work. I don't know why.

These are the steps you have to do if you want this work. Even though it is a zip file you do not flash it in cwm. Its not gonna work that way. You have to extract the files so you can get the apk file and others needed to do the steps above. You will also need a file explorer that allows you to get to the system files. I used es file explorer its free on the market. Follow the steps above and this will work..

You guys had the clockworkmod bootstrap installed. Uninstalling it does not restore two files that were changed in the system partition. This has been discussed many times in this forum. The bootstrapper backed them up when it changed them so you just need root (I use Root Explorer) and restore the two backed up files. Once you do that the OTA should install.
[Removing CWM Recovery]
1) Delete file /system/bin/logwrapper
2) Delete file /system/bin/hijack
3) Rename file /system/bin/logwrapper.bin to /system/bin/logwrapper
4) Delete directory /preinstall/recovery
If you had the boot into recovery hack then you need to restore this file also.
[Removing CWM on Boot]
1) Delete file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
2) Rename file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin to /system/bin/mot_boot_mode

Simple answer, no.
You need either find and install DLNA.apk or fxz back to 2.3.6.
Sorry my question was not really understandable... The last question didn't have to do with the rest of the thread... I was asking for the backup cause I didn't want to lose them... I FXZ back at 2.3.5 and now I am at 4.0.4... I made a full backup when I was in the Leak #1... Now when I restore it back, will I have all my configurations or it is not worth it to restore it? And also will that restore the damaged file of DLNA as it was or nothing to do with that!!

And also will that restore the damaged file of DLNA as it was or nothing to do with that!!

You can not restore a backup from a different release, it is not wise and can cause a boot loop..... What are you worried about losing? Do you sync mail, and contacts and such? If you do you should be ok. The ONLY thing you will have to do is reinstall apps, and that is easy in the play store, just go to the my apps tab I think it is, and install all the ones you have in there that you want back on the phone. Yeah it is a PIA, to do an fxz then ota, then reinstall all your apps, but that is the price we pay for "hacking" our phones sometimes.

You guys had the clockworkmod bootstrap installed. Uninstalling it does not restore two files that were changed in the system partition. This has been discussed many times in this forum. The bootstrapper backed them up when it changed them so you just need root (I use Root Explorer) and restore the two backed up files. Once you do that the OTA should install.
[Removing CWM Recovery]
1) Delete file /system/bin/logwrapper
2) Delete file /system/bin/hijack
3) Rename file /system/bin/logwrapper.bin to /system/bin/logwrapper
4) Delete directory /preinstall/recovery
If you had the boot into recovery hack then you need to restore this file also.
[Removing CWM on Boot]
1) Delete file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
2) Rename file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin to /system/bin/mot_boot_mode

I have installed the ES file explorer and enable the root options in the settings. It says the hijack and longwrapper files are unable to be removed. Any other options?

Try a different root browser (like root explorer) - I think ES has issues with actual root operations.
Other options might be adb or terminal emulator - but need to know a few commands for that..

Yeah yeah that is what I did... I thought there was a way to backup these stuff... Now is there any way to root the official OTA?

Yes this is possible, I have it removed in my ROM.
It required decompiling the SystemUI.apk and editing the size of the text to a 0 pixel so that it is now gone. There are other ways to go about removing it, but I find this to be easiest.
Feel free to diff. my SystemUI.apk to see where the edit is made.
Or, I suppose if you are not wanting or simply do not know how to do this I can do it for you, simple MOD and I can get it done very fast. I just need you to upload your SystemUI.apk. The best way? Use something such as root explorer from the Playstore and go to your system/priv-app folder and pull the SystemUI.apk and upload to something like Dropbox and reply to this post with the said link.

Download this link: http://d-h.st/SJR
reboot to your custom recovery, find the .zip you download that I provided and flash it, wipe (only) cache and dalvik cache, then reboot.
If you reboot and it is still there, I'm guessing you are on the stock ROM and you may need to just delete the SystemUI.odex and all will be good, but I don't believe that is necessary it should work upon reboot.
Let me know.
------
For those curious, this is how the MOD was done.
1) Decompiled SystemUI.apk
2) go to res\values\dimens.xml
3) within dimes.xml find:
Code:
<dimen name="carrier_label_height">[COLOR="Red"]24.0dip[/COLOR]</dimen>
change to
Code:
<dimen name="carrier_label_height">[COLOR="Red"]0.0dip[/COLOR]</dimen>
4) recompile

a nandroid backup always fixes things, but I think I know the issue,
Download this new link .zip and reboot back to recovery, flash this new .zip then wipe cache and dalvik cache (only those two, this is important) and reboot.
If issue is still there, it may be because you are on an Odex ROM? and you may need to delete the SystemUI.odex
try flashing this first though and let me know,.

Look i don't know how to use twrp ..
Maybe you can guide me?
Thanks
After mount system go to advanced, then file manager. Press back button if twrp ask something when you press advanced, and you will see all options. Search in file manager apk. Press once the apk file and then copy. After that navigate to system/framework and paste copyed file

You can also set permissions right for framework-res with twrp file manager.
