[ACTIVE][DONATION] Lenovo P2 (P2a42) for mikeNG - Lenovo P2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Warning: Please do not discuss this Donation Thread elsewhere. Posts in unrelated threads could get you banned from XDA.
After discussion and requests amongst other threads to make the Lenovo P2 an Official maintained device,
I decided to step in the discussion and add the possibility of donating a handset to mikeNG to work on the Lenovo P2.
To ensure the future development and longevity of the P2 he was recommended by me because:
A: The Lenovo P2 is a SD625 based device, the SD625 is the successor of the SD615.
mikeNG has worked and is still maintaining SD615 based devices for LOS(former CM).
B: He is recognized XDA developer since 2011.
C: He is an Official LOS member and contributed to the project for years and still is doing so.
D: He is a Greece based developer. We all know that Lenovo bought Motorola from Google.
Lenovo is targeting its Lenovo handset products for the East/South-Eastern Hemisphere. Where Motorola is targeted for the Western Hemisphere.
Motorola handset's have been picked up in the past by Western-Hemisphere based developers and continue to do so.
Where Lenovo handset haven't seen much love by the Western-Hemisphere based developers. Mainly due to lack of required frequency's.
E: He speaks CAF kernel code fluently
As mike is not much active in the XDA forum but very much so on coding.
and in light of preserving transparency throughout the settled goal of 275€, I propose to collect all PayPal donations. (See donate to me button)
to this thread and generate a bar we'd be filling as we make donations.
Money will be sent straight away to him once the goal is reached, directly to him; not XDA or any other third person involved.
Goal = Price in Greece + Shipping Costs. Proof
Whether you have a PayPal account or not, doesn't truly matter because PayPal allows you to use either your debit or credit card to send the money you decide to send.
PayPal does provide you with a transaction number afterwards. You may post such transaction number here and we'll both update the bar and add your username right below
to keep track and recognize those who have donated.
Despite of the fact the price can go either higher or cheaper, we do not know as of yet.
Q: Why not an Chinese P2c72?
A: He is a Greece based developer and requires support for band 20.
Q: What about the future of the P2c72
A: The devices differ only in frequency's (modem) and internal storage (64GB). The P2c72 should therefore be supported.
Q: What if we don't reach the goal?
A: If it ever comes to that. (I highly doubt it). Then every donation made will be "rejected" hence the donated money will be returned to you in the form you paid.

I think it depends on the layout settings.
But if you click on my nickname you will have a menu for "Donate Me". that's basically it.
I will update the thread to reflect a clickable Link.

Yes it will take some time (like with any Official supported device) to reach the Official status but it will. He is an Official LOS dev.

hello guys,
as per our initial wait time, we have waited till today to see if we could reach out target donation amout... but as u guys would have realized too the donations have slowed down considerably... but thats expected to happen...
currently we have donations which are around 277 USD [13850 INR]... we have taken the decision that we will no longer wait for the rest of the donations to come thru, instead we will buy a new device from local retailer... we feel this is the best option as we will not run into warranty issues (as it will be purchased thru reliable retailer), or have to pay any additional "hidden costs" which are prevalent in online purchases... we had checked yesterday and its price was 353 USD [17650 INR]... though the price is relatively steep, we have decided that we will buy it... we will chip in the remainder of the amout ourselves, namely we will pay 353 - 277 = 76 USD, which is almost double of wht we initially promised to pay but we think there is no point in taking un-necessary risks thru online retailers, delayed deliveries and warranty claims... the reason we are so much inclined to warranty is because of the fact that kernel development can be most "dangerous" in terms of bricking the device, i have first hand experience as i have bricked two andoid phones ... so even if we need to pay that little more atleast we will have the warranty claim to fall back on for get new replacement device
we will go and buy the device right NOW...
THANK YOU ALL WHO DONATED!
we hope that the rest of u will willingly donate, especially when u see our work

hey guys i am glad that u all have finally reached close to target amount...
i have already discussed this with Napstar and i think we can now start accepting donations...
to avoid bouncing the donations from various accounts, and incurring the un-necessary charges/overheads, here is wht i suggest/recommend:
the international users can directly send donations to me (via PayPal): my donation link (when sending donations via paypal kindly put a comment saying "for i9003 development" or "for sgs-sl development"
the domestic (Indian) user can directly contact Napstar via p.m., he will provide u his account details and then u can send in the donations via NEFT bank transfer (i think this is the fastest way and can be done via online banking for most indian banks)
let me know wht u guys think...

i will be updating this post with info on the donations we receive...
hello guys,
i was contacted by a few users from ur community (mainly vishal24387) with a request to develop for ur device [SGS-SL]... u guys might remember me from a few weeks (months?) back when i was requested to help out with USB-OTG, sadly that didnt work out since i didnt have device to do testing on
so we (Team UtterChaos) would like to know if the user community for this device is interested in donating a device to us for development... this is not for USB-OTG BUT for general kernel development for this device...... Team UtterChaos currently consists of me and my dear friend Napstar and both of us are from Pune, Maharashtra, India...
additionally let me make this clear... we want a working device... you guys can work out a way to raise funds for this and send us a working device...
remember i am only posting here since the users from your community have approached and requested me to do so...
i mostly develop for Xperia devices (x10, Arc, Play, etc...) and personally have a Xperia X10 & Xperia ARC... i recently received Xperia Play as a donation from that community to work on that device... i mostly work on kernels and some fun stuff (dualboot, modified recovery, bootmanager, lots of tools, etc)... i will soon be getting a HTC Flyer for personal use/development... if u want to know wht all i have created/done/played with u can check the list of threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141153
Napstar has a Ideos X6 (Spice MI410) and has developed kernels, recoveries, etc for that device... if u want to know wht all he has created/done/etc, u can check list of his threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?do=finduser&u=4224819&starteronly=1
since u would have realized that i am pretty busy with the phones i already have, so i have requested my dear friend Napstar to take the lead in developing for ur device, if u guys do decide to donate a device to us ... i will help him out initially but later on he will be the one working for ur device...
so what do the users of this community think?
do let us know in this thread wht do u guys think...
@MODS: since i was requested for helping out with development i have posted this thread in dev section... if u think its not the correct section kindly move it to which ever section u think is correct...
this will contain the list of users whos donations have been received in my PayPal acc. or Napstar's bank acc.

### donation updates ###
To all i9003 members
Only CM7 or CF root is not enough guys. Porting mods, themes can be done at any time guys but we all know that we really require a great kernel developer who will develop great kernels which will make phone snappier like never before. In galaxy S2 or Galaxy S section you will see lots of custom kernal which is made by them. In older days we had skin but now really we need to take major step guys for our phone. Codeworkx already said that once ICS will release all he will completely pay attention to GALAXY S & S2 phone. Then again we will be alone with our phone for long time. So guys please dont be restrict yourself upto some themes or mods. Dont make urself busy with new officially roms released by samsung. They can deeply reviewed by us later. But right now donation & more important KERNAL development is more necessary.
I just want that u have to just donate a very small amount say like 200-300 Rs (5-6 $ USD) which we usually spend on some non-important things. If we donate today it will refund us in form of high level kernal development. So please I again & again requesting u to take some initiative. No other developer will come to help us. Unless & until they have phone in hand no developer can develop kernal virtually for our phone. THINK GUYS SERIOUSLY ABOUT THIS PLEASE .
For some days I will just collect names of members who want to donate. If amount reached to our target amount then we will start donation.
ITS A HUMBLE REQUEST THAT PLEASE IF U WANT TO REALLY DONATE ONLT THEN & THEN GIVE ME YOUR NAMES.

I think its a great idea coz you have great kernel and OTG working knowledge.
I know you will rock our device. Btw do any of you can write OR manipulate drivers? Like bring video gtalk on our device?

This would be great, if you could develop kernels and USB OTG for our device
Sadly, I'm only a student and don't have a credit card to donate, but I would be very happy with a developer like you working with our device
I am ready to donate, Last time i didnt donate due to some problem, but this time i am ready to donate
I am happy guys by looking ur response. I am just waiting of podanimesh's response.
I can donate 10€ via paypal. Of course I would see first how many people are going to support this idea. It would be great that Napster helps codeworks in getting a stable porting of cyanogen mod.

Cool down, I did read the OP and I still confirm what I wrote. If Napster wants to develop on this device, he might consider to help codeworkx as well, I don't see any conflict in this. And I am sure that most people here would be happy to donate if this leads to a stable CM.
Do you understand now? or do I need to better explain my concept?

+1 @frank
ya, obviously Napster will provide many things other than the USB OTG if he has our device on hands. Hopefully he and Doomlord will make I9003 development better and better. Before that, we need to consider donating in order to get the device. I am so happy because there are a lot of efforts showed to make things better for us and our beloved I9003!
I also would donate. I think this is a very good idea, and we must do it. How many people would donate for this proyect? It would be a great idea to make a list and count participants, and that would make people be more sure about the proposition....

Really thanx doomlord. Dont have words to say thanx. I am sure that our community will surely now take device developement seriously. Its like rebirth of our device for developement after Skin & Amit's valuable work. After codeworkx you are like jackpot for us.

[CONTRIBUTION] Ace Plus Development support: Contribute to developer

Even a single dollar can make a difference This thread is inspied by http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305397
Guys i dont know how to start but may be this can help a bit in the donation to @TheWhisp for buying ace plus
As i see
none of us ever donated thewhisp a single penny for what he did for our community
NOW ITS TIME TO BRING SOME CHANGE
I am creating this thread so that we can track how many members are willing to donate thewhisp (it may be a single dollar )
and by this we all can probably donate thewhisp a Samsung galaxy ace plus so that we can also have that awesome builds which mini 2 have
Benifits of donation-
1 to get a device for a recognized developer
2 extend support for ace plus
3 development in kernel roms and recoveries
The device (Ace Plus) currently costs about 140 EUR in Latvia.

Because thewhisp don't have the device he cant give us frequent updates and bug fixes
so please guys tell how much you can donate to thewhisp and then we will calculate that are we able to reach the goal to buy dev our device
we all want to donate you so that you can buy a ace plus (may be resoled one ?)
but many of us are either don't know the process or many of us don't have the pay pal account
so can you explain the detail for donation
i can donate you only 500 rupees (7.987$ ) (i am studying too) but if 20-30 people will donate you this amount you can easily manage to buy ace plus
how much is needed for you to buy you a new device ???

thewhisp's reply
Well, it costs about 140EUR here. Everything is kind of expensive in Latvia. But if you want to donate, it's currently only possible through PayPal. And send the money when enough people have agreed to donate. Because if don't reach the amount, people who donated would be disappointed. You know what I mean.
Click to collapse
please post how much you can donate
please post your amount in euros
and please dont post your amount if you cant donate that amount at the end
and as thewhisp said please don't donate until we reach the goal of 140 euros on paper (but if you donate money for supporting thewhisp then it is awesome too)
and sorry for somewhat poor English
currently i am willing to donate 500 INR =5.918 EUR (its not much but anything is better then nothing)
we will count donation amount on this post
Wonderful initiative, I'm in! I can contribute around INR 300, maybe more if I start seeing more people chipping in.
One thing, does it have to be a new phone? Used ace plus costs around INR 5500 here in India, maybe TheWhisp can use Ebay or some other means to procure a used ace plus at a lesser price.

great :good:
seeing members like you other members will also contribute in this initiative
answer of your question can be explained by @TheWhisp only
I do not have credit cards or anything like that. I would, however, help TheWhisp to buy one SGAP. I could open a paypal account, and upload online money. But I do not know how to make money since they do not work because they are not of age, I could try to earn through advertising but do not know if it works. Recommended if you want some method that you know. Thank you.
those who do not have credit card can pay by there friends or relatives credit cards
AND WHERE ARE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS DEMAND FOR LATEST BUILD AND LATEST KERNEL
THEY JUST WANT TO LEACH EVERYTHING WITHOUT GIVING ANYTHING
Though it is a bit disappointing, the lack of contributors is understandable. Most of the owners of ace plus seem to be students who got it because it was cheap. People who work would've probably ditched this phone and purchased a better device.
How sad it is that all we can do is to keep our fingers crossed and just hope for TheWhisp to continue with the development without even having the phone.

I would donate at least 20 to see this happen.
In other words, this sounds like "no one else is willing to do it, so let's all give someone (we already know who) a couple hundred bucks for an update that should be free of charge, and you won't get it until then" ?? Sure, just as soon as you stop ripping people off before i find ways to take action for it since you're all messed up. Charge for TWRP, get in trouble and your idea is to go else where to do the same illegal thing

New Pool for $90 for custom fees (refer post 2 for more details).
paypal.me/pools/c/873JzDzPxM
Hello All,
Most of you must be happy about Moto X4 getting custom rom support. Just so that you know, this would not have been possible without Lineage OS developer @erfanoabdi.
He worked on creating trees and bringing Lineage OS to our device even though he does not own the Moto X4. Now, we think he should own the Moto X4 so he can continue developing for the Moto X4 and get us official Lineage OS support.
Hence I am created a Paypal pool and we are aiming for $325.
here's a link to the pool.
https://paypal.me/pools/c/85BbFnVmfu
This has been done before with the Moto Z2 force. In Z2 force's case the device got support once it was delivered to the dev. We are lucky to have Erf who already got us LOS, but you know P is coming .

Questions, queries, comments? Feel free to post.
Thanks. :highfive:
PS:- He has no paypal, hence we have to buy it and ship it to him.

Once we have $90 more, I can transfer the money to him from my personal bank account and post a screenshot here). Opening a pool for $90.

device has been shipped to me as of now. I will get on Thursday or Friday. I will then inspect it and check if everything is working as expected.
Once I ship it I will post the tracking here. Not trying to scam anyone out of money. I have a good enough job and did this for the community.

Thanks again for setting this up!
ETA on progress?
I'm kidding. Lol. Excited to see that the phone will be in good hands soon, and hopefully lead to some awesome Dev work
Two unsuccessful deliveries attempt.
I don't know how the delivery system works in Turkey, but here, in Brazil, after the third failed attempt, the item is returned to the sender.

[CLOSED][ENDED]Crowfunding for @mickaelmendes50 Poco F2 Pro development device

Hey guys, as you know, currently the Poco F2 Pro / Redmi K30 Pro (lmi) doesn't have an active developer's community working to bring up Custom ROMs, Custom Recoveries etc.
Two of us @raystef66 & @Cave_diver), who are currently building for the Xioami Mi9, have decided to purchase the Poco F2 Pro and plan to build/develop for it.
However we are still missing some key skills and would very much like to win over @mickaelmendes50 to help with our project.
Our goal is to work together as a team and to bring up AOSP ROMs and a stable recovery for lmi as soon as possible.
Mickael is currently very active developing and maintaining on the Poco F1 and would very much like to join our effort, yet he is lacking the device and funds for purchasing it.
If you are interested in supporting and accellerating this project by getting Mickael on the team, please consider helping with his crowdfunding.
You'll find information about his plans and his PayPal for donations in the post below.
Please keep in mind that while the chances of success will increase significantly by supporting this effort, Mickael will be under no obligation to release any finished products.
The entire purpose of this donation is to enable him to work with us towards achieving what we all want, a solid device tree, a working recovery and fully functional ROM's
Yet as you all know development is not easy, life sometimes changes plans and you can never guarantee a specific outcome.
Looking forward to your support

@raystef66, @Cave_diver & @mickaelmendes50
Hi everyone, my name is Mickael (@mickaelmendes50) and many of you will also know me as Mr. Mesquita from Telegram.
You can also find me on Github.
My current device is the Pocophone F1 and I fully support the team project of developing for the Poco F2 Pro / Redmi K30 Pro as described in post above.
In order to do so, I will need a funding for a device because my current status as a student does not allow me to purchase.
My plans and timeframe are as follows:
Hopefully complete the successful crowdfunding!!!
Wait for device delivery - approx. 4 weeks after the goal is reached.
Wait for the Xiaomi bootloader period to pass - 2 weeks after delivery.
Finally the timeframe for a geting a stable AOSP ROM and recovery - roughly a month after bootloader unlock.
The goal is to reach a total of USD 525 which will enable the purchase and shipping of the device, including insurance and taxes.
Your support would be greatly appreciated!
My paypal information is as follows:
Name: Mickael Mesquita
Location: Goiânia, Brazil
[EDITED]
All donors will be listed in the post below this one, please let me know in your paypal donation if you would like to remain anonymous.
In addition there is a spreadsheet where I will track all the donations and where you can see what is missing to reach the goal.
Thank you everyone. I would be very grateful for your support!
Mr. Mesquita.
Thanks to your generous donations, over night the goal was reached!!!!!!
First of all thank you so much to all of you who are supporting this funding effort!

We would suggest that as soon as @mickaelmendes50 knows the exact price for the device, including shipping/insurance and customs, he will contact the contributors for a possible refund of excess donations.
Thank you once again everyone!
****, just 20 bucks, nobody are interesting in this phone.
Developers just skip this phone and use your skills in another phone, this is a waste of time and you know it.

Actually it just started 30 minutes ago so that's not all that bad a rate
And just curious, where else can you get a phone for that price with a notchless Amoled, a Snapdragon 865 and a huge battery. All with pretty awesome Xiaomi build quality?
There was another crowd funding going on on telegram in the past day's for another developer and he actually raised the whole amount in 3 days @400€.
I get an error message while try to donate via PayPal. Is there another way to contribute?
Thank you guys your effort is much appreciated.

The main problem here is Xiaomi. After 90 days no update for a brand new device and 60 days later after that we only get 2 updates but the phone is still full of bugs, fake 5G, even small basics like bluetooth doesn't work. I'm so pissed off and just looking to switch, no wqy to go with Xiaomi without working custom rom anymore in the future.

True, and we're just looking to fund another device now for the 4th developer. So it would be appreciated some can support as well for this fundraise from first post.
As of now we're all joined in our own dev group on TG. and hope we can soon bring out some good news on development

Really. 90 days no updates? That is simply not true.
If you look here, there was an update for the global model in May (initial version), another in July and two updates in August.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/lmi/
And what's with this 5G being fake? The device supports Sub6 bands 77 and 78 which is well documented. As you probably know 5G is a work in progress, there are different bands in use just like with 4G. Obviously the bands need to match those your carrier uses, you can hardly blame Xiaomi of Qualcomm if your carrier uses something else.
And Bluetooth, actually it works just fine, of course...

Just wasted 5 minutes of my time reading that thread, looks like a troll fest to me.
Firmware updates for the Poco F2 are there, the 5G band in my country (and pretty much all of Europe) is supported and bluetooth works.
So that refutes the claims you posted earlier.
Please don't hijack this thread to complain about the phone or brand. You're not required to like it, you may prefer Oneplus or whatever brand suits you more. And if you have constructive criticism, maybe consider posting it in your thread or any other thread where it is on topic. Thank you.
This might revive my dusty Android compilation environment. Rocking the Poco F2 Pro right now, MIUI is great but... I miss a few Omni things (and MIUI stability is arguable). All in to help.
Great information that something is moving forward in this direction )
