Hi,
I read something a while back about getting the paid apps for free but for the life of me cant fine the post now I dont know why, does anyone have a link to the post?

I mean like getting access to something to test and delete or pay for if its good, as I dont want lots of debits and credits trying and refunding on my bank account.

There is a way to test out some of the paid apps. It's called "downloading the demo versions."

Once you buy an app you can try it and if you wish to, return it for a full refund within 24 hours. So that is exactly what you need.

Why is everyone so concerned about "obtaining" applications anyway? Everyone is happy enough to steal windows mobile and android OS's

Difficult to steal android as it's opensource...
And I wouldn't take Windows Mobile if it was free.
If someone is charging $.99 for an app they're not exactly going to be rolling in cash from it in the first place - if you start stealing the apps then they may just give up and not bother. Anyone can afford to take the risk of a couple of crap apps at those prices.. and if you really daren't risk a dollar then there are always reviews.

Because we don't like to be associated with thieves, maybe? It may be that bad, that there are be people reading this who has actually written those applications you are trying to "obtain".

Asking for Paid Apps For Free is confusing, especially when we have a strict no Warez Policy.
I know this is not about Warez but it could become about warez very quickly and some sharp users have pinted this out by reporting this thread.

so it looks like no progress is going to be made on this phone unless we send the cm devs a phone. even then, there's no guarantee that they'll work on porting cm to it, but i think it's worth a shot.
there's an sk4g on ebay, buy it now, for $160, couple days left. seller has a 100% rating. http://goo.gl/rsStz i'll buy the phone and send it to cm, assuming we raise the funds in time. we'll look for a phone when we get confirmation. at a minimum, the phone has to be in working condition.

4. post confirmation here
5. wait
if not enough funds are raised before the auction is over, or some other snafu occurs, each contributor is refunded his money.
if cm devs return it, i sell it and dispense the money to contributors according to their original percentage of contribution?
what do y'all think?

I'm not sure it would help. Steve has been hired by Samsung (http://www.theverge.com/2011/08/15/samsung-hires-cyanogenmod-founder-steve-kondik/ ) so I'm guessing that he can easily have access to the device if he wants to work on it; you may want to check with him before organizing that.

Find a dev and confirm that they will work on it given a phone before starting anything. Don't raise the money to find that noone will work on it.

I should have some money in less than 1.5 months, and I can help donate. It looks like you can get one on eBay for about $150 USD for Buy It Now. I will be willing to donate $75 to the cause, but how do we know if the person on the receiving end of the cash-flow for this is trustworthy?
(Should we start a thread for donations that are verified, or what?)
We can also use Chase's Person-to-Person Quickpay... if two or more people have a Chase account, of course.

hey all, i haven't been able to get any confirmation from steve about whether he'd work on this, so chill for a bit. i'm hoping others can get a yes/no from either him or other devs (i don't know of the others) before this goes forward. so far ncmacasl has donated a few bucks, which is pretty cool, but i'm refunding it. gonna update the OP.

Could this also mean that because he is working with/for Samsung, that he may have had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and cannot participate in anything "Samsung related" outside of his normal "Samsung Duties"?
I have pondered on this...
Also, I keep seeing fully functional devices (cosmetic issues only, like scratches to the cover) all for 149-150 via Buy It Now. These would save the "investors" in the device $10 amongst them. Just saying.

If you are sending e-mail and your e-mail addy contains "spam" then you are likely to get sent to a spam folder on the recipient's provider, or the e-mail is likely to get dropped all together. I know this because "spam" is in most of my e-mail addys too, even my main ones. (Even Chase had to change their filtering because of this stating that they couldn't send me e-mail, and I told them it is the only one I have, THEY need to fix their as it worked BEFORE their changes...)

i only contacted cyanogen by sending him a tweet @cyanogen. i'm not sure who the other devs are. that's why i'm hoping there are others here who might know who else to contact, and who can make the contact themselves. i think more inquiries is better, because not only could it help to ensure we get a response, but it'd also give a hint as to how much demand there is for the sk4g.

We need someone who specializes in kernels . If there was a kernel for gingerbread we would be alot closer to many goals.

There is one. The Galaxy S 4G has the EXACT same processor as the SK, and was recently upgraded to Gingerbread. So a kernel is available. The problem, according to Sduvick, is that the drivers are coded differently, namely the display. We could base a GB rom on the GS4G's code, but it would essentially take a complete ground-up rewrite of drivers.

Is it just the display driver? Wouldnt we need drivers to have cm7 on this phone?

There were a couple of others, for one the camera. You'd need to PM sduvick and ask him. He's the only one to date that I know of who has even attempted to compile the code from the SGS4G.

I should have some extra money soon...
Has anyone made contact with Cyanogen Devs to query them on if this would be worked on if one of these was sent to them?

It's even cheaper for a used one in great condition, around $240 on Craigslist.

As long as the phone is fully functional so I can test everything then the phone can be used...just make sure it isn't blacklisted so I can fix wifi calling and the apn issue.

Last time I got a phone donated the users sent me the money bc I had a deal with another user to buy his phone it was all done publicly so the community can see. I say the cheapest/safest way to get it would be ebay because it has some guarantee that if the product doesn't work then you can open a case with PayPal

See that the #1 question. I have PayPal and have no problem doing so, but sure other people do to. Its either gunna have to be someone with the most posts and thanked (which isn't me)
But me personally I would feel most comfretable with erikmm doing it. But if he doesn't want to or if you guys don't trust him why would you trust someone else?

but sounds great if someone could put it up, I've been looking for work lately and school those two things take up my time and free time goes to deving thanks man hopefully we get an awesome guy willing to put it for sale

I really like the work erikmm has done for our phone. I dont think anyone else has made an actual working rom with such few issues for our phone. I think getting him a phone so he can help our community would be a huge asset, and im willing to donate also. I dont want to see this phone get left behind, and I do miss flashing different roms like I did with my Vibrant.

Trust me the work has not stopped. We have been trying various ports over the last few weeks. Erikm and I have been trying but without the phone his efforts are limited. Hopefully he gets the device and then things will start rolling

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section but I've been talking to well known well established developer Sacs23 who has done amazing roms for the Galaxy series (s4, note 3, etc) now if we can fund him a note EDGE he has promised to give us a fully modded Rom with continuous development through (this is one developer whom I will personally vouch for and know won't just take our money and run) I know the device itself is super expensive as a stand-alone purchase but if 80 of us were able to throw $10 each down we would literally be able to get him the device in his hands tomorrow now if nobody is interested in funding this for him now in April I have an upgrade which I may just purchase the device for him myself but will ask in return for you guys to fund me back the $150-200. Let me know what you'd like to do guys and I'll work with him to set up the donation link.

eMMC 15 S5 for GeTex

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct forum or even if it's allowed(didn't read thoroughly through the rules for this) but considering what it's about...
As you all know by now or will soon find out, GeTex has brought to us a way to unlock our VZW S5 locked bootloader with the help of other highly recognized Dev's. The device's able to use at this time are the ones with the Samsung eMMC 15 chip. The Toshiba eMMC 11 chip has yet to be unlocked. As and if you may have read that to Getex's unfortunate findings that he/she has 2 of the 11 chips and then purchased another one to find out that it's also an 11 chip.
What I'd like to get going and maybe someone help arrange/coordinate is purchasing GeTex a S5 with the eMMC 15 chip. Since GeTex found this out he/she never gave up on finishing what was started. So with all of this said and for all of you enjoying what was brought onto this VZW S5 community, how about giving GeTex a nice and deserved THANKS by helping getting a S5 with an eMMC 15 chip.
The question is, how do we go about it? Do we setup a fund/donation "pot" to get the S5 needed? Please chime in as to making this work as to i believe it's something we can do TOGETHER as a Community. THANK YOU GeTex and to Beaups for the code, JrKruse and others that I cannot think of off hand for making this happen as well. A :good:

I've done Hot Air SMD rework before on Note 3, you just have to be super careful not to burn the pads on the PCB and take your time to loosen and remove the epoxy/adhesive. Take it really slow. The hard part is lining up the balls when your ready to solder it back on.

I plan on going to a few stores today after work and this weekend to aquire a S5 with an eMMC 15 chip. Along with a sale price. If GeTex would rather get the MB's rather than an actual device let me know. I thought it would be a good gesture of the community to look/help getting a device. I'm not downing the free MB's that Mastertech has offered, which is awesome by the way, but she said that she is unable to PM him. Also would he know if they are the Samsung eMMC 15 chip's or not? Just would hate it if and when she swaps out they don't work. If anyone else has any recommendations or ideas, please feel free to add to this thread.

GeTex compiled, and explained how to use Beaups tool. Which is completely cool under the license. But Beaups specifically requested all donations received for any thing including by his work go to him.
If you are specifically donating him/her one, thank you! That's quite kind of you. Or if someone else is donating one, same. But I don't think a group pay effort is fair with what Beaups asked.

Possible, but very hard to pull off. Ryan's tips were very accurate.

No no! You misunderstand. A group fund or bounty should go to what Beaups said it should.
If any users are willing to donate a board, eMMC, etc. to GeTex, that's more than cool.
Just, try to follow Beaups outline for where the money should go.
You aren't breaking any XDA rule though.

beaups did ask to send money to both of those locations(i added it to my op day one) but people also can chose to send money wherever they please >.> I didn't ask them to, nor do i demand it. Thats the idea behind donating x.x If people want to do this as a kind gesture then.... idk....

Went today and no luck going to 2 more places tomorrow to check out what they have. On the curious note, there's been 538 views here and only 31 Thanks to GeTex for bringing the unlocked bootloader to "life", with one person graciously offering 2 MB's....Mastertech, were you able to contact GeTex? She said that she's unable to PM you and I was just checking up on if y'all have or not. Thank you Mastertech for your kindly proposal!

I'm starting to think that only "original" S5s have the Samsung eMMC.
I doubt you'll find one in a store now.

I bought both of mine, white and black, in store 2 months after release. They were both able to be unlocked.
One was manufactured in July of 2014 (2014.07.12) and the other in August of 2014 (2014.08.06).
I think the manufacture date has something to do with which chip they use.
I told her (GeTex) that I'd trade her one of mine if/when they aren't daily drivers but who knows when that'll be..
I planned on getting a phone off the new Nexus line this fall but now that our bootloaders are unlocked and the S5 hardware is badass, unless one of the new Nexus devices compares, I doubt I'll upgrade.
Anyways, I'd start asking people on ebay/swappa if they'd be willing to install the "emmc brickbug" app to check the CID..
Most people on ebay are dicks and wont be willing to do it but you might find a few that will.
If you do find a 15 from someone on ebay/swappa, be sure to post here because I'll throw in money to get her a 15.

Thank you for the helpful information and your proposal. I'll definitely keep all informed and post any of my findings. To others who may be reading this, if you could do the same if you have any findings.
