[Donations] Help Get eVil D a MT4G for Sense Roms

Update: I picked up Zinx and Evil's phones and hope to ship them today
Ok you guys should know the drill for now. We were able to collect the funds for Zinx's phone in less than a day. Granted that was with a special deal to get the phone on the cheap that I don't know if we will be able to do again. But I am confident we can get the funds collected to get eVil D a phone. Click my "donate to me" link to contribute. I am in NO way making a profit from this and am only using money to cover expenses. Like always if I will furnish receipts on request. If you don't want to your charged the paypal fee and want 100% of your donation to go towards the fund, chose to send it as a personal gift (which it is).
Right now we are shooting for the out of contract price of $399, unless someone has an upgrade they would like to donate to the cause.
For those unfamiliar with eVil D, he has worked on sense ports of the Desire, Desire HD, and MT4G for the N1 and the G2. He has agreed to work on the MT4G as well, provided we can provide him with a test device.
So let's start this off again and see how quickly we can get another awesome dev working on our device.

As you may have noticed I was not maked down as paid for Zinx's phone b/c as soon as I found out we could get it for $150 I was already planning on donating to the eVil D fund....well that and it's kind of silly to donate money to my own paypal account only to transfer it back to my bank account.

We don't actually send the donations until we have enuff pledged to cover the amount. So you can still pledge something now. If we were to actually reach our total before Wednesday we would understand if you had to wait.

Heading to my buddies to give him the money to transfer to you. Thank you so much for doing this for the community. And I'm sure the devs don't mind the free devices ;]

Just to clarify. I get paid on friday. If this is still going I will happily donate. Ill even donate more than $10 if needed. If you look around xda forums in the glacier threads, I try to help people out with questions and always offer a hand etc. I just dont want people thinking im all talk when it comes to donations. Donations for a Thunderbolt for Wild Child for Development of new ROM

Hi Guys
So I bought my wife an Inspire and have been playing around with Wild Child's ROMs over in the Inspire Forum. I think he does fantastic work and so far these are some of the most stable and fastest ROMs I have seen on any Android device that I have used. Check the thread for reviews and feedback from other users.
I spoke with him about developing a ROM for the Tbolt, but obviously he is on ATT and has an Inspire. However, he said if he had one he would definitely get working on it.
I would like to start taking donations to buy him a Tbolt so he can develop a ROM for us to use.
I think we can buy a good quality used one in the $150 range, so it wouldn't take too much to get him started. If we can get enough to buy one ( I will throw in too), I will gladly find one locally in Utah and pay for the shipping to to him.
If there is enough interest on this and we get some posts, I will put up a paypal link for this.
Thanks and please post your thoughts so we can get working on this.

I think you would be better off having the developer come and express interest in attaining a donated thunderbolt. I am not sure how many people would just send money to you in good faith since Christmas is right around the corner, couldn't hurt to have some extra shopping money. But good luck.

So if I was trying to scam you, why do you think I would put in a developers name who is a member and respected developer on this site? Seriously?
I discussed this with Wild Child and he asked me to do it this way. You can confer with him if you don't believe me.

I am certified by the state to teach concealed weapons classes and if there is even a blip on my record or a complaint i could loose my certification and my business. Do you really think that is worth $150 to me?? I. come on gentlemen. Not everything in this world is a scam, and you should have realized that when I put in a devs name that is here on the site and accessible.

Wild Child has a donations link setup. I'd say if you wanted to donate to him why not donate through his link? Also, can you point us to some of his work with the Inspire? I don't see much development for the Inspire.

I was asked to possibly develop for you guys on the tbolt....if you look here,I took over the ROM from someone else...all the proof of my work is [email protected] etc....this wasnt a scam, and for those who gave negative replies...not very nice....jimmyut was only trying to give you guys a stable usable rom for this device....but since you guys/girls want to bash the man for something legit....thats ok ill pass.... No worries. Sorry it didn't work out because of the negative attitudes of some of the members on here. You would have been a great asset to the Tbolt team.
Maybe I will just buy one myself and send it to you so I can have my own custom one of a kind ROM...

UPDATE: haven't heard anything from cyanogen or other devs. if you are able to make contact and get a confirmation either way from any of the devs, please let me know (email / pm / in this thread), and we can move forward. until then, hold off on the donations.
so it looks like no progress is going to be made on this phone unless we send the cm devs a phone. even then, there's no guarantee that they'll work on porting cm to it, but i think it's worth a shot.
there's an sk4g on ebay, buy it now, for $160, couple days left. seller has a 100% rating. http://goo.gl/rsStz i'll buy the phone and send it to cm, assuming we raise the funds in time. we'll look for a phone when we get confirmation. at a minimum, the phone has to be in working condition.
i've never done something like this, and this whole thing might be against xda rules or something, but here's how i'm guessing it should work:
1. raise funds via paypal using my email address "spamziq" at gmail dot com. note that there's a way to do this without incurring fees: http://www.insulators.info/general/paypal.htm
2. buy phone
3. get phone, send to steve kondik (or another appropriate dev); would obviously need an address
4. post confirmation here
5. wait
if not enough funds are raised before the auction is over, or some other snafu occurs, each contributor is refunded his money.
if cm devs return it, i sell it and dispense the money to contributors according to their original percentage of contribution?
what do y'all think?

I'm not sure it would help. Steve has been hired by Samsung (http://www.theverge.com/2011/08/15/samsung-hires-cyanogenmod-founder-steve-kondik/ ) so I'm guessing that he can easily have access to the device if he wants to work on it; you may want to check with him before organizing that.

Find a dev and confirm that they will work on it given a phone before starting anything. Don't raise the money to find that noone will work on it.

I should have some money in less than 1.5 months, and I can help donate. It looks like you can get one on eBay for about $150 USD for Buy It Now. I will be willing to donate $75 to the cause, but how do we know if the person on the receiving end of the cash-flow for this is trustworthy?
(Should we start a thread for donations that are verified, or what?)
We can also use Chase's Person-to-Person Quickpay... if two or more people have a Chase account, of course.

hey all, i haven't been able to get any confirmation from steve about whether he'd work on this, so chill for a bit. i'm hoping others can get a yes/no from either him or other devs (i don't know of the others) before this goes forward. so far ncmacasl has donated a few bucks, which is pretty cool, but i'm refunding it. gonna update the OP.

Could this also mean that because he is working with/for Samsung, that he may have had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and cannot participate in anything "Samsung related" outside of his normal "Samsung Duties"?
I have pondered on this...
Also, I keep seeing fully functional devices (cosmetic issues only, like scratches to the cover) all for 149-150 via Buy It Now. These would save the "investors" in the device $10 amongst them. Just saying.
Would this work, providing that the funds are not collected ahead of time:

Does that sound good, as my lady and I both have the same phone?
Does the device have to be flawless to send to them, or just in working condition (cosmetic issues OK)?

If you are sending e-mail and your e-mail addy contains "spam" then you are likely to get sent to a spam folder on the recipient's provider, or the e-mail is likely to get dropped all together. I know this because "spam" is in most of my e-mail addys too, even my main ones. (Even Chase had to change their filtering because of this stating that they couldn't send me e-mail, and I told them it is the only one I have, THEY need to fix their as it worked BEFORE their changes...)

i only contacted cyanogen by sending him a tweet @cyanogen. i'm not sure who the other devs are. that's why i'm hoping there are others here who might know who else to contact, and who can make the contact themselves. i think more inquiries is better, because not only could it help to ensure we get a response, but it'd also give a hint as to how much demand there is for the sk4g.

We need someone who specializes in kernels . If there was a kernel for gingerbread we would be alot closer to many goals.

There is one. The Galaxy S 4G has the EXACT same processor as the SK, and was recently upgraded to Gingerbread. So a kernel is available. The problem, according to Sduvick, is that the drivers are coded differently, namely the display. We could base a GB rom on the GS4G's code, but it would essentially take a complete ground-up rewrite of drivers.

Is it just the display driver? Wouldnt we need drivers to have cm7 on this phone?

There were a couple of others, for one the camera. You'd need to PM sduvick and ask him. He's the only one to date that I know of who has even attempted to compile the code from the SGS4G.

I should have some extra money soon...

he's as badass as they come and obviously with his help we can get a lot more going on so i'm asking all the guys that keep saying

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section but I've been talking to well known well established developer Sacs23 who has done amazing roms for the Galaxy series (s4, note 3, etc) now if we can fund him a note EDGE he has promised to give us a fully modded Rom with continuous development through (this is one developer whom I will personally vouch for and know won't just take our money and run) I know the device itself is super expensive as a stand-alone purchase but if 80 of us were able to throw $10 each down we would literally be able to get him the device in his hands tomorrow now if nobody is interested in funding this for him now in April I have an upgrade which I may just purchase the device for him myself but will ask in return for you guys to fund me back the $150-200. Let me know what you'd like to do guys and I'll work with him to set up the donation link.
