Help rooting Canadian Galaxy S6 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically I have a Canadian S6 (sm-G920W8) and I'm looking to root it. On chainfires autoroot for my device the last 5 characters of the Build ID's do not match (my build ID is: mmb29k.g920w8vlu5cpk4).
Does anybody know if there is a root method that works for my phone? Btw I'm on 6.0.1.
Thanks

You can root your phone with CF-Auto-Root without a problem. The root's build ID don't have to match your build ID.

[Q] Root SM-N900L

Hi everybody
I have a Korean Note 3 Model SM-N900L (Carrier U+).
Is there available CF-Auto-Root for this specific carrier? My current Android release is 4.4.2 CSC N900LLGTENAA.
Furthermore my HS's Modem is set on the Korean frequencies and not on the Italian Vodafone so LTE does'nt work. . Is this problem fixable somehow?
Any help or suggestion is welcome.

I want to say it could work on your board, CF-auto root was released for Samsung devices Galaxy s2 and up while everything below with gingerbread you would have to use a one click app to root it such as z4root or GingerBreak.
I understood CF auto root was released for many Note 3 model.
For instance is available for SM-N9005 , 900S, 900 etc.
I cannot find the file for my 900L. The other two rooting methods you mention (z4root or gingerbreak) are quite unknown to me.
Do they work ?
Thank you

I believe CF-Auto-Root also works for the N900L if you download the 900S (SKT version) because the 3 carriers use the same method.
And yes, somebody did confirm that LG works if you use the SK file.
But you could listen to jisoo's advise (which I would recommend):
Quote by jisoo:
CF-Auto-Root temporarily replaces your stock recovery to install SuperSU. It then tries to restore the original recovery, but obviously this will cause problems if your device is not well supported.
If you are going to install CWM anyway, I would suggest you just flash the SuperSU package after you have flashed CWM with Odin. The advantage is that you can take a full nandroid backup before rooting, in case something goes wrong.
For CWM, you can use the SKT version from here:. This has been reported as working on the LGU+ model, and I can personally attest to it working on my KT Note 3.
Thank you
Can you let me have a brief step by step procedure?
The step about how to install superSU package after CWM is not very clear to me. I believe CF autoroot authomatically install super su ...or not.
also which is the meaning of " your device is not very well supported"?
XDA ....always one step beyond
Thank you!!

Hi, that means that I don't really recommend CF-Auto-Root because it just keepa recovery. So what I would recommend is to flash CWM at Odin (make sure you've downloaded SuperSU. Zip to your downloads on your phone before) and then go to recovery - install zip - choose SuperSU.
Sent from my SM-N900L using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I just want to confirm that the cf auto root for the SM-N900S korean file has worked on my SM-N900L korean phone!
I then flashed CWM using odin.
Hopefully others in the future will root the 900L with confidence!
Thanks!!!

Canadian G920W8 5.11 Rogers Root?

I've been looking around, but haven't seen anyone actually saying that my device is able to root therefore I don't want to go rooting it with something that "might work"
Carrier: Rogers
Model Number: G920w8
Build: VLU3B0J7
Android Version: 5.11
Could someone tell me if it can be or not?
Anyone? I am also looking for this. CF auto root seems to only have 6.0.1 and not 5.1.1

Do I need unl. bootloader to root?

Hi,
I'm using Samsung S6 with stock software and would like to root it using CF-Auto-root. My question is whether I need to unlock bootloader first or is it safe to flash image from CF-Auto-root site by ODIN?
I don't care about knox. I'm O.K. with tripping it. Just don't want to brick the phone.
Baseband G920FXXU3DPDP,
Build number MMB29K.G920FXXU3DPDP
Kernel version - 3.10.61-7884513, [email protected]#1
security patch 01 may 2016
Any help appreciated.

Thanks for info. You're right. I've just rooted my S6 using CF-AutoRoot. Looking forward to install TWRP and some good alternative ROM.

[Completed] Root SM-J320FN

OK, there are dozens of solutions to rooting a Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 phone on the web, but none of them have worked for me.
The problem seems to be that the solutions are too "old" and don't take into account new firmware updates. Or the solutions are for different variants of the phone, there seems to be so many.
So, my particular phone is:
AP: J320FNXXUOAPK2 (PDA Version)
CP: J320FNXXUOAPK1 (Phone Version)
CSC: J320FNOXX0APK1 (CSC Version)
The OS is Lollipop 5.1.1
Does anyone know how to root this EXACT MODEL of phone?
Also, I have been unable to find a working version of TWRP for this model, so if you know of one I would very much appreciate a link to it.
Cheers

New Sprint S7... goal is to unlock Hotspot with or w/out rerooting?

I just bought a S7. I rerooted my previous S4 years ago and unlocked hotspot/tethering.
Im wanting to know the easiest most effective way to unlock the hotspot/tethering for my S7. Is it possible w/o rooting?
If the only option is w-rerooting. What rooting method is currently the safest?
Build Number: NRD90M.G930PVPU4BQAA
Boot Loader & PDA Version G930PVPU4BQAA
Android Version: 7.0

Rooting is the best option, without root then PDAnet is about your only option.
As for the best way to root, do a Google search for:
"How to root (your model number)"

when you say " model number" do you mean S7? or do you mean Build Number?

No
S7 is the device name
Build number designates which firmware you have.
I mean your model number. Go to system settings>about phone>model number
system settings>about phone>device info>model number
