so i just wanted to confirm something just to make sure theres no scamming going on. a relative of mine sent a phone with a cracked glass screen to a repair store online, they said that after they took the glass panel off that they saw some cracks on the digitizer. they continue to say that if they put the new glass panel on that you will see the cracks from the digitizer. also, they say that the touch screen will still work despite the cracks, it will just be a cosmetic issue with the new glass on.
now, ive done phone repairs before and i always thought that if a digitizer is cracked in any spot, that the touch response will not work. the phone worked fine before it was sent off, it was glass that was cracked that needed to be repaired. what im thinking is this guy made a mistake when repairing it, or just try to overcharge us. is this guy trying to pull a fast one or is he right? the phone is a sony xperia xa ultra

Each of the scenarios are equally possible. Its,the kind of situation where you're gonna have to make your own personal judgement of whether to trust them or not. You have nothing to go on to prove whether he messed it up or not.
Either way, whether he messed it up or not, it will have to be replaced now, whether you pay him to do it or pay someone else.

well the main question i wanted answered was if a digitizer was cracked, would it still work. from my knowledge, if a digitizer has even the slightest damage, the whole touch panel will not work

Typically, it would render the digitizer non-functional but the odd fluke is known to happen where it works fine.
I have an S2 that I found in a parking lot after being run over multiple times with a severely busted screen, with some of the glass missing completely, but the display and touch functionality still work just fine.

I searched the forums and google and couldn't find an image similar to what is happening to my fuze.
So yesterday I noticed a problem with my fuze screen, and i don't know if i can't explain the problem or what, but at&t is convinced it's damaged and will charge me a bunch if i even try to send it in.
There are no cracks, scratches, whatever. (I wish i could take a pic, but the only cam i have is the phone)
The problem is that the surface of the screen (I think the soft touch screen top) seems to have a thin layer of 'something' in there. It is the same shape as the screen, centered, and about 70% of the screen's size. The effect is something like the shimmer/rainbow from a very thin layer of oil on water. (thin film interference?) Anyways, the touch screen still works, the lcd still works, the glass isn't cracked, and I have no idea what happened. I use a screen protector and am very protective of my baby.
I'm thinking I need to order a new digitizer and replace that? ($25 and some labor doesn't sound bad after talking to AT&T about what i would get charged if they decide it's physical damage)
I dunno, if anyone has experience with damage like this or at&t or replacing digitizers and has any words to help me, either with explaining what happened or what i should do, that would be much appreciated.
I had the EXACT same problem on my fuze. It looked like the layers of the screen began to seperate. AT&T scared me that they would charge me for this so I sent it directly to HTC and they replaced the screen at no cost to me...took about 2 weeks.
AT&T Warranty agents are trained to be cautious in regards to damage to devices as the mail program doesn't leave much(any) option once you send the phone back for the exchange. It's either no-damage/no-charge or damage/charged, after which you cannot go back on the exchange.
My advice is to see if there is a Device Support Center in your area.
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB91429
I went to one with my possibly damaged Fuze and they took a look at it and exchanged it without any "possible" charges jargon.
If that isn't an option, you could buy a pre-paid phone to use while you send it in to HTC as TheSopranos16 did for repair.
Good luck!
Sir, the problem you have is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
I only hope my xperia doesn't get it.
i have this same exact problem. its technically called a newton ring. att wanted $500 to fix it and the htc rep told me that whenever they encounter this they usualy dont cover under warenty because it is due to pressure on the screen and it would cost something like $300 to fix. so i basically said forget it and now im stuck with it.
So, my screen broke yesterday.... yay....
Story behind it: I picked it up from its stand like Ive done a million times before, and the screen just shattered in the upper-left corner.
My educated guess is that the frame wasnt correctly assembled, and its been pressing the glass in such a way the glass eventually couldnt take it anymore.
And of course the place I bought it from says physical damages isnt covered by the warranty -.-
I should point out that, despite my mods on the charger/usb adapter/etc, my tablet has never been opened.
So now I have a tablet with cracked screen, which Ive always been extremely careful with, with people telling me they wont fix it under warranty...
It wouldve been fine had it not been for the 3 cracks covering the screen on the left side.
Thankfully the cracks on the touch-area are not all the way through, so at least I can use the tablet just fine.
Anyway, the question I wanted to ask...
Has anyone else had their screen crack/shatter for no reason?
Im kinda pissed off at the moment, both at ASUS for making such a fragile unit, and at the company refusing to fix it.

Have you contacted Asus about this? If you can, get really good pictures of the corner, showing the cracked glass and the outer housing. You might get a better response by showing that the glass broke but theres no damage to the housing, more or less providing pictures that it wasnt dropped. Just because im sure every phone/tablet company has heard every possible lie when people drop their phone or tablet and say "it just happened while sitting on a table". Not saying you did, just giving an example for why customer service sucks for physical damage.
That is a bit scary because I do notice that on mine there are sections where I can push in the glass slightly with a little pressure, so a tiny gap area, showing that it isn't fully housed properly. It's nothing noticeable or annoying.. but if my screen shatters D:
Almost always they claim it isn't covered i should make photo's of it like said before and sent them to asus yourself.
If they say its your own fault then i should check i you can repair it yourself
The screen for it is over here
http://www.screencountry.com/index.php?section=products&model=EEE%20Pad%20Transformer%20TF101&brand=ASUS
They also tell you through youtube how too fix your transformer
For all i know of reading on forums you also need a screen digitizer
You can check out this website
http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php?cPath=66920_222155_222301
They have a whole lott of parts for transformers
Good luck with finding a solution too your problem

If only asus parts had more pics to understand which was which
Sent from my Transformer
They refuse to fix it... Ive just bought a car as well so I cant afford to send it in for repair, or buy a new screen and fix it myself.
I guess I'll just have to live with it for now.
Its not that annoying, it looks like theres a hair on the screen (yes, Ive blown on it several times forgetting its a crack lol).
Its no biggie if it doesnt get worse, except its not really as mobile as it used to be
Im just afraid it will break even more if I so much as look at it lol.

Thats how mine was, except I couldnt push the glass. There was no flex at all, which only sortof confirms that theres been a pressure on the glass. Ive always had a bit of flex on the right hand side though.
I should point out that now when the pressure is gone, theres a slight flex on the screen on the left side as well now.
My screen is cracked when i felt down on the stairs, there are some dent on the side which i think lead to a shock or impact to the screen...
i'm wondering how to check whether the glass break or the LCD panel break... i can still see display at the back perfectly, i confirm it with rotating the screen to see any black spots or any other issue, but it turn out to be fine. Also another problem is that the screen is not responding well... when i try to unlock, i place my finger and it dosent seem to detect it. But after a few tries, i managed to unlock it. For the screen unlocking i felt that the crackscreen may have impact on the touch screen sensor or so...
And i currently lives in malaysia and Asus service centre told me that the cost to repair the LCD and glass will be 800-1000!!! which is i cant afford due to i'm still currently a student.
SOME GOOD ADVICE NEEDED !!!
I'd assume that the LCD and the digitizer are glued together.
You should still have a warranty if you bought it, if you didn't you should of been more careful with it.
I didn't want a warranty because I knew I was going to root and unlock, so I bought a leather case for it.
Think of this as a life lesson.
I managed to break the screen on my Optimus 3d last night, not sure if it was dropped or ran over. I found it face down in my driveway this morning and to my horror when I flipped it over the screen was completely smashed, however the phone is still working fine, minus the never ending ghost call issue.
What make the situation worse is Rogers just sent me out a replacement phone yesterday and I have to send this one back, in the next couple days.
So I called a repair centre and they wanted $190 to repair the phone, and stated they would need to replace the LCD and the glass screen. I know there is nothing wrong with the LCD screen, phone functions and all colours are good, just has broken glass.
My question is, can I repair just the glass without replacing the LCD? I have found the screen for around $30 on ebay. Based on watching the how to on youtube it doesn't look like too difficult of a job.

First of all , this was asked before. Read the forum. I know because i asked that question.
Check here ;

Carefully read them , especially my posts because i did it.
Where are you from and how fast can you get the replacements off ebay ?
When you get them it'll take about half an hour to fix it.
Nobody will notice unless there's damage to the LCD.
If it has we'll have to change it too.
I can guide you via Skype video calling.
Ok so I have managed to remove the broken screen, it was actually fairly easy my only concern is the part show at the 7:00 minute mark of the video below, was broken when I removed it. The copper tape strip (or whatever it is) is still in tact. Where can I purchase this part? I still have all the pieces and if worst comes to worst I will attempt to very carefully assemble the phone with the broken parts to see if the phone still functions. I'm assuming this is part of what operates the home, search, back and menu buttons.
I have already removed the glue and am going to pick up a new screen from London shortly. I had some adhesive remover and work in a glass shop so I have all the tools and cleaners to ensure my new screen sticks and fits nicely.
After reading the thread you linked I am wondering if the screen they sell in London will will include the outside casing, this would solve all of my problems. I guess I will know soon enough, heading to London now. I will let you guys know how I made out.
Heey if you look on youtube you find couple of videos its not very difficult i did it with a friend of my it takes 20 minutes be carful ^^
Goodluck
You can make do without a front case if you know what you're doing. I lacked equipment so i used alternative methods like shoe glue or blowdryer (which killed the original digitizer)...
No matter what you do they'll recognize if you don't buy it with a front casing though... (Already glued preferably)
I found it in turkey so i don't think you can't find it in london , resources are vast there...
Look around.
Remove the digitizer and check the lcd before heading to london if need be buy it as well.
If you need help you know where to find me...
Cheers!

Ok so I got the new screen installed and everything is working great. I purchased some 3m adhesive at the repair shop which made for a very clean replacement after removing all the old glue with some adhesive remover. Decided to grab a LCD for my brothers LG970 while I was there and repaired it as well.
New phone arrived yesterday evening, so I will be sending this one back this afternoon. The screen replacement is very clean so I'm not concerned about that but I did manage to lose the little speaker cover from the front of the phone, I just plan on telling Rogers it fell of at some point if they ask about it. Considering the phone is in working order with no physical damage besides wear and tear I don't expect an issue from Rogers.
By the way anyone want to purchase the brand new Optimus3d Rogers sent me? Not even taking this one out of the box, selling it and getting the as far away from LG phones as I can.
Thanks for all the help guys.
I could think about buying it but you need to disassemble it and wrap the parts good.
In Turkey it's illegal to buy phones from foreign countries but it's not if you buy not working parts.
So in short i'm gonna con them into thinking it's for parts if you're up to it. PM me the price in your head.

I have sent you a pm. At least I believe I have I don't actually see the message in my sent items list.
Hello and thanks for reading this. First, a clarification- I'm under the impression that the front of a GS3 is the "front glass," with the digitizer underneath, and the amoled screen underneath that. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's how I'll refer to them below.
Yesterday I attempted to replace the broken glass on my GS3, and found that not only was the glass cracked, but the digitizer was too. I got the glass off, but managed to crack/warp the digitizer in the process. I'm sure there's no damage to the amoled screen, maybe a couple of light scratches, but now the screen doesn't turn on. It was working fine that morning. Now, the screen does absolutely nothing. LED functions fine.
The phone will vibrate/LED will light when I get a notification, and I have 3 batteries all at 100% charge. So I (think I) know that it's just the screen components that are messed up. Do I have to buy the $150 assembly? Or is there an easier, cheaper (!) fix? When I get home tonight, I'll try download mode, removing the sim, but I'm not sure if I want to reflash firmware yet. Thanks for any ideas.

The amoled screen is directly under the digitizer. However if you break your digitizer, there's no way for your phone to respond rendering your amoled screen useless anyway. It's essentially one unit because of the way it's manufactured.
Why would you reflash firmware? If you replace the entire display assembly it'll fix it. Your issue isn't software related.

I don't know how Samsung designed it, but I would think the amoled screen would still light up and show stuff, even if the digitizer's broken. As for flashing, it's a suggestion I found through Google. I was sure it wouldn't do anything, which is why I wanted to save it for last. Thanks for the relpy.
