Using Honor 6X without screen protector? - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

As we all know tempered glass screen protectors suck on 2.5D glass and the place where I live, I can't get a normal plastic screen protector just to prevent scratches.
So are there anyone of you Honor 6X users out there who use it without a screen protector? If yes, did you encounter any scratches?

It does't have any enhanced option for front glass (e.g. corning gorilla glass)

I already know that that's why this thread was made and that wasn't the question.

I've had mine for a couple months now with no screen protector. It's fine

You sure you don't even have the plastic one applied that some got out of the box?

Your question does not make sense since it depends on how you take care of your phone, whether you place keys and coins on the same pocket as your phone, or you lay it face down.

Yep, removed that when I tried a tempered glass screen protector. Didn't like it, so removed it and never replaced it with anything else.

Try the Trink impossible glass. Its not thick like a tempered glass and its flexible too. There are some videos that shows the durability of this glass. If you're not aware of it, then do check it out. They even have their own online shop. But again, it won't cover the entire screen.

Niilken 9H+ tempered glass protector

Just received Niilken 9H+ tempered glass screen protector from www.cbay.co.nz
Handful of cleaning agents included with the protector.
1. Wet cleaning cloth
2. Dry cleaning cloth
3. Adhesive film to remove dust
4. Wiping cloth
5. Extra stickers to hold the protector without directly touching
Unfortunately, the one I received did not fully adhere to the screen. There were gaps all around the protector border, and refused to set properly even after firmly pressing it down.
It did not affect s-pen functionality nor front camera, but it could have been better.
Overall, otherwise looks good and does its job as one of the first tempered glass protectors for note 4.

Wrong forum thread. The reason the glass does not fit properly is because of the 2.5D screen shape at the edges.

That is not the reason. 2.5D is for the top surface, not underneath.

He's quite right, on both counts.
The phone's screen curves almost imperceptibly before it gets to the "obvious" curve at the edge of the screen. Most (all current?) tempered glass protectors are perfectly flat on the backside - this doesn't adhere properly at the edges because the phone's screen curves away.
The threads in the accessories section have covered this in quite some detail. Some manufacturers are busy trying to design a glass protector that both adheres properly and is easy to apply.

You are right, I actually misread that as 2.5D for screen protector. I am aware of the screen curvature starting within the viewing screen.
Thank you though.

iloome is currently the only company who is making a Note 4 tempered glass screen protector that is designed to fit OVER the 2.5D curved edges,
All other pieces will either stop short of the curve or will have issues adhering.
Why bother, it's gorilla glass 3 right? Pretty scratch resistant as it is. I never used anything on my LG G3 and its scratch free. Or my G Pro 2. Never had an issue. The GG3 glass is good enough I think to use without anything and it looks so much better as a result.

"Pretty scratch resistant" isn't "completely immune to scratches". The point being that if you cover your phone with a protector no matter what happens (short of a drop/stanley knife) you're quite literally covered. Having a decent screen protector, glass or not, along with a case means you can throw your phone into a pocket with a bunch of keys with little regard to how your phone will fare.
I'd much rather have to replace a £5-15 protector than realise at some point that there's a scratch on the actual glass on my screen. You can't go back from that - you can replace protectors easily. People have different usage profiles, just because your 3 phones are scratch free, doesn't mean that others won't want to protect theirs.

I always thought the same, but afraid to try it.... anybody else not use any protection and not get scratches?
Your right I have friends that are tradesmen, and I wouldn't go without a screen protector if I was them. I wouldn't go with a high even phone either.
But in my case my G3 / Note 4 is in my pocket and just my phone alone. Maybe that's why. I don't put my phone inside with coins or keys. That's asking for trouble

One of the reviewers Note 4s screen got scratched during use after a few days(can't remember which site it way). I also remember seeing a video where Gorilla Glass gets microscopic scratches without a protector and these scratches make the whole structure weaker and more prone to shatter when dropped.

And then you can get a back protector protector to keep the back protector safe?
Nilkin H back cover is available, however a corner impact will shatter the screen because a tempered glass screen protector won't save you from that. There is another thread where a guy tried to show off his phone with tempered glass protector and purposely dropped it shattering the actual screen as well.

The Mi4C uses Concore glass which is a product of Gorilla Glass but has the LCD and Digitizer fused together. That means if the glass even slightly cracks you'll have to replace the entire LCD/Digitizer assembly. Even though the Mi4C has a good repairability score, it might be difficult or expensive to get parts as this a phone for the Chinese market only. Using some form of screen protection is essential.
PS: Just google a few guides on how to apply a screen protector properly, I've done so many times without any dust or bubbles creeping in.

Make sure to get the tempered glass variety, as the plastic-based ones are often grippy (making swipes more difficult as your finger kind of sticks to the screen) and more reflective (more difficult to see in the sun), as well as less transparent (screen seems dimmer, and sometimes has artifacts). Tempered glass screen protectors are more expensive than the plastic-based ones and sell for about $5. That said, I've seen suppliers offering the display now, they sell for about $60.

Ye I have a tempered glass one, always used a plastic on my old phones, which is much slimmer but as you say, you can feel the difference :good:
I hear the standard mi4c screen doesnt have such a great olephobic coating, so its a fingerprint magnet. can anyone confirm or deny this statement? sounds like the best screen protector is a tempered glass with good olephobic coating. can anyone recommend a good one?
I applied the standard screen protector that came for free and have one bubble but its on the bezel so I can live with that. Only problem is it attracts a lot of fingerprints

Nillkin have a tempered glass screen protector for the Mi4i/4c, called NILLKIN Amazing H. I've heard they're one of the better ones, since Nillkin is also a big brand when it comes to cases and screen protectors.
You can find it on AliExpress for 7-10 dollar. It's probably available at other places as well.

Just comparing the product pages, The H is 0.33m and H+ is 0.3mm. H+ looks to have 2.5D edging craft, whatever that is.
I only use nillkin for all my phones. They fit great and applying them is very easy, because they pack a lot of extras in the box (like wet and dry wipes to clean your screen, tape to remove dust particles, microfibre cloth...). I always need just about 2 minutes to apply them without any bubbles or dust. If there is a dust particle left after applying, just lift the screen protector carefully and use the tape to remove the dust
i found that Edge Control goes crazy when the phone is connected to the PSU and charging. After some minutes of using the Edge controls suddenly do the "back" function all over again. This happens when i just hold the phone in the left hand (not tapping with the fingers - just holding it on both sides in one hand). Can you confirm this? I am using latest sMIUI 5.11.5 (clean installed). If i unplug the typ c connector - all goes back to normal within one minute.

There are multiple layers in a good tempered glass. If you accidentally remove the layer between the top layer and the glass layer adn the glass is broken it can shatter into micro fragments, though that is less likely to happen.
Mostly you will just remove the tempered glass altogether. Mind you that you cant reapply it properly again(like a screen guard).

Thanks. It's the removal side of things I don't like the sound of. A benefit of a protector is that it's 'sacrificial'. Sooner or later it will get scratched or damaged and need replacing...

I already tried three tempered glass from different manufacturers. But all have the same problem. Its doesnt covers the whole screen. And the display looks weird when i watch videos because of improper glass placed on my screen. The shopkeeper gave me the same reason as you got. So i think we will have to wait for proper tempered glass.
Our Moto X Play comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. So i don't think that there's a need for a glass protector. As we apply it just for the peace of our mind. But actually there's no need for it.

If you accidentally drop it or put it in your pocket with keys you can scratch your screen gorillaglass or not..

In case you don't like the fact that the glass protector doesn't fit well, or that it easily breaks or feels sharp to the touch at the edges, there is an alternative.
You can use one of those soft screen protectors that use the same material as the protection of helicopter blades.
These are soft enough to bend themselves over any curves of your phone and provide excellent protection.
They absorb quite some impact or at least disperse it because they are soft and they are claimed to also 'heal' themselves if the scratch is light.
The feeling is completely different in comparison to glass or hard/sturdy plastic protectors, but I like it.
I think skinomi has one for the moto x play, znitro had the same style soft protection but apparently not yet for this model.

Yes, they are my protector of choice at the moment. Also available here
http://www.xtremeguard.com/Motorola-Moto-X-Play-Screen-Protector-p/moto_x_play_screen_protector.htm (not the 'dry' one). And don't bother with the 'full body kit' as the Moto X Play's rubbery back is such that the back protector doesn't stick well.

Excellent suggestion, they are cheaper than any I have seen so far for that particular type of protection.
The full body doesn't work very properly for any model, it just comes loose after a while.
You need the raised edges of the phone around the screen to protect the protector's edges.
Always keep in mind that these things are stretchable and they can jump up a bit on the edge after some months.
So you need to install them micrometer perfect.
They worked fine, front and back, for my Nexus 4. I replaced them every few months, but they're cheap enough to be able to do that

DONT use tooth paste. It's just jerks lying for YouTube hits. You may being noticing just scratches on the oleophopic coating. You can't fix that. If you can feel the scratches with your nail the you can polish them out but you will remove more oleophobic Coating. My advice put a screen protector on and forget about it or ask OnePlus to replace screen if you want perfection .
Just apply a uv tempered glass and leave it that way.
The Power of Oneplus 7 Pro be with you
As advised above, LOCA (Liquid optically clear adhesive) is apparently good for hiding micro-scratches so applying a UV Glue screen protector will probably help and avoid future damage. The Whitestone Dome protector would most likely be the best candidate although it is pricey but has tons of good reviews.
