So, this is a slightly different question that what these forums are for.
I'm looking to install a ROM on my Z5, so I can have the latest version of Android and hopefully squash some bugs (especially random Bluetooth turning off). This is all well documented in the forums, but all these ROMs usually come with root included and here's where my problem starts.
There are many apps on my phone that won't work with root, like bank apps, Android Pay and Netflix just to name a few. So, I'd like to have a costume ROM that doesn't have root included. Xposed used to have a module for temporarily disabling root but from my memory, it was never reliable; and there's no Xposed for Nougat yet.
I know many of you install ROM in order to customize your phone as much as possible, my goal is not customization. My goal is to have the latest code, with the latest security fixes and with as many bugs fixed.
So, is there a ROM that I can install that comes without root? OR if there's a way to remove root from any ROM?
I do understand that my bootloader has to be unlocked, that's a given (just in case you were about to mention it). Also, rooting as an initial/intermediate step is also very acceptable, just not the final product.
You want custom rom and bypass netflix or bank apps, android pay etc. Custom rom is the meaning of BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED device, so there is no way to bypass these apps without Root on custom roms. Magisk or some Xposed modules do that, but not guaranteed.
Flash STOCK FTF on my thread (steps 1-14) and then flash your TA BACKUP. This will lock your bootloader..

Long time android user that just upgraded to the Verizon Note 5.
I see plenty of custom roms and root methods for other variants. ...are we just screwed on the Verizon variant?
I'm still in my 14 day period, so may return if root and custom ROMS aren't available.
Guessing it will never happen. Not sure if anyone is working on it but i dont think so. This phone is awesome without root. I am a long time android user and it kinda bugs me there is no root but i was still able to disable all the packages i dont want to use with Package Disabler Pro. Either way sucks no root but this phone is awesome.

after owning my z5 for nearly 2 years now, I really want to get back to cyanogen / lineage os. I loved CM on my old Galaxy S4!
I read in several posts and forums that, when unlocking my bootloader without backing up the drm keys of my z5 device, the quality of the photos / camera will get worse, ' cause the sony algorithm for image processing won't work anymore without those keys.
But....
When I open up the bootloader (wihtout prior downgrade to Adroid 5 for backing up my drm keys), in order to get root access, install a custom recovery like twrp and flash lineage os, wouldn't be those drm-keys be useless either way? Or do I have a misunderstanding in anyway? Because when flashing lineage OS , I suppose the sony algorithms for picture enhancement won't be used anyway, because of the different OS (lineage instead of "Sony-Android") ?
Second question:
Does anyone have experience with a rooted xperia z5, without drm-keys (no prior backup) ? Is the picture quality really so much worse? Especially when using cyanogenmod or lineage OS or any other aosp?

Q1.Downgrade android 6 with flashtool. No need BL unlock. Read my thread. Download android 6 ftf and follow step 1 to 14. Use backupTA v2, works with android 6 and no need root access. Then unlock bootloader.
Q2.All custom roms has drm fix solution, so no need drm keys anymore. In my thread there are also patched kernels which means no need drm, everything works like stock.
You have z5 about 2 years, so no need to backup keys. Your warranty is void now. Unlock bootloader, use custom roms or stock with ROOT access and many features.. Try all stock based roms like existens, rsx. They have XZ UI and many more..

Thank you for hints and advices. But I also want to have root-access to my smartphone, because i want to use adblock and a firewall and other stuff, for which I definately will need root access. So I will have to open the bootloader of my device.
hi folks. i have an unrooted s7 exynos. i would like to install some modified system apps like the blackout apps. youtube, google app etc. i need root to do that but have concerns about android pay. i know this will permanently trip knox and kill samsung pay but not bothered about spay.
i also know that i can potentially use magisk and still be able to use android pay, but that situation seems fluid. anyone know if i can root, change system apps, unroot, and still be guaranteed android pay working? or is it any modification at all to /system that will block it? and if that is the case, presumably reflashing stock rom to recover android pay access should work?

If you pass safety net then android pay will work, in theory if you successfully unrooted with no traces left behind then safety net will pass. But the challenge would be a clean unroot, I'm not sure how easy that is. Most unroot methods I've seen are a reset, so you'd lose your app changes anyway.
Magisk is quite effective, afaik the only thing it can't hide from saftey net is Xposed.

As it seems, i need to use the device for a little longer than i anticipated. I also use the device for mobile banking and some work related stuff.
Is it possible and advisable for a user with little experience ( i only rooted and installed a custom rom on a HTC m7 once)
to root and install a custom oreo rom on the galaxy s7?
If it is easy to do what is the most stable simple oreo rom, that has everything working just fine ( camera is important)?
If not, can i:
- root the device and still get OTA updates?
- install a free ad blocker that also works in apps without root?
- de-bloat the device without root?( there are so many apps installed i will never use)

You can use all banking apps just make sure to install Magisk. Keep in mind KNOX stuff like S Pay won't ever work again after you root.
You can flash a Rom like TGP easily and it has an installer to guide you through all the options.
You will not get OTA updates on a rooted device even if you stay with the stock Rom. I am not sure about ad blocker but I think that also requires root and you can also not debloat system apps without root.

Rooting and having Xposed are not related. You just need an unlocked bootloader with custom recovery for installing Xposed. Doesn't matter whether you are rooted or not. Though most of the modules might need you to root your device for full functionality of the modules, but I have tried many without even rooting the device.
However you have to forget about both rooting and installing Xposed in Realme 2 model, as this device is just for kids. It doesn't have fastboot binaries in the first place. Currently the only way to root this device is via Miracle Box which is again a paid software with a hardware. Therefore I wouldn't recommend this phone at all to anyone. Apart from rooting and all, it doesn't even have native theme store unlike older Oppo branded phones. This is the worst android phone I have ever used.
A good hardware and asthetics ruined by bad OS.
Not going to buy color os based phones again .
