Any way to open an app from a URL? - General Questions and Answers

I want to add a reminder to Inbox, which makes URL links clickable, to open an app on certain dates (in this case Nook.)
Is there any way I can make a URL that when clicked on my phone, will open that app on the phone?
The closest I've got is going to its Play Store entry.
Thanks!

I don't it will work that way because the app is on your device, your device nor your app are Web pages so how could a URL do this? Unless you can figure something similar to how an email with an XDA link can be opened in the XDA labs or Tapatalk app.
You can probably set something up between Gmail and Tasker to open the app.

Well I figured that Chrome had a way to parse certain links locally without a connection. Maybe something like app:// or local:// etc.

URLs don't work without being connected to a network that I know of. I could be wrong but when you click a link it has to run its course thru the network to find the URL, if that URL is on your device it still needs to go out over the network and make its way back to your device to open whatever you set the URL to open on your device.

Looking for an app...

I'm looking for an app that will check my IP address, log it, and search my past logs to see if that IP has been used previously. There may not be an app like this but sounds pretty easy to make. If anybody could do this I would be glad to pay and know of a group of people who would also be glad to pay for an app to do this.

IP Address Change & Log
*IP address is displayed.
*The history of IP address is preserved on the SD card.
*IP is always confirmed with the widget.
*When the widget is clicked, IP address is changed.

I searched the market and downloaded like 9 different apps. Many would show me my IP, but none would log or search past IP's.

You are the man. That sounds very much like what I'm looking for. However, I can't seem to find that app in the market (or anywhere. 4shared/applanet).
EDIT: The market website says its not compatible with the SCH-i500
I found an app
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.movingstuff.IpTrack&feature=search_result
If that app would do 3 things it would be perfect:
1. Show the external IP in the history without clicking on each individual entry.
2. Search for repeat addresses and show a dialog box if used before.
3. A widget would be awesome!

Alternate SMS application

I'm looking for an alternate SMS app that is almost the same as the stock app but allows me to attach an APK file.
A lot of apps I get my fiance wants and it would make it easier to be able to grab the file from a file manager inline rather than having to open ROM toolbox and send it from there.

You can share any app you want from play store directly from the share button in play store and text it to her
Sendt fra min HTC One med Tapatalk2
Umm you can't attach files to text messages I'm prey sure, so no app will be able to do this (if im right). UNLESS the app also has its own messaging service on the side that can attach files, but then that would defeat the purpose because whoever you trying to text will have to have a smart phone, (they might even have to have android if the developer doesn't support other mobile smart systems like iOS or Windows Phone), because having a smartphone is the only way to get this made up app that doesn't even exist.

But since you said she wants the same apps, I'm assuming your both using android. So in that case I recommend an app called App Info XT because it has Holo Design, and can send apk directly from the app without the need of another file manager. But you will have to email it to her, since she has android she probably has gmail account. App Info XT can attach the apk to an email client directly, also, so thus is probably your best bet.

[Q] Tasker and stock Email App

For the life of me, I just cannot figure out Tasker. What I am trying to do seems simple in theory, but to me, it is not so easy in execution in Tasker.
I am trying to turn off syncing for only the stock Email app (use this for my work Exchange email) when I am at work, and turn it back on when I leave. I don't really care if it is time based or location based. I do not want to change the sync settings for the Gmail app or anything else, just the stock Email app.
Could anyone provide a comprehensive, step by step method of accomplishing this? I've tried many times and just cannot get it. For some reason, I cannot really grasp how Tasker works anyway, so perhaps that is the root of my problem.
You cannot change settings of individual apps.
You could configure tasker to carry out specific button presses so it could open settings, navigate down to sync and change settings etc but this isn't an elegant solution

Oh really? Shoot. Is there any other app or solution?
The only real option is 3rd party email client

How do I get the native messenger app to stop opening external links in the built in

It's really irritating that there's no option to automatically open links externally and I have to chose open in browser every time.

Yeah, any third party message app does. It's a problem with the native one. I actually like the native one for once.

thank you

Oh...I thought you meant on the device itself, not the XDA forum app. Sorry. I've tried to find out and it doesn't seem possible yet.
Open Google+, go to menu, Settings, Account, Contacts, and turn on" Keep contacts up to date" and it will pull your profile image from your Google Account/G+ profile into the phone.

Oh... In the Forums... Sorry, thought you meant the user icon on your phone. I don't think you can set via your phone in the app, have to do it via web browser.
