How do I get the native messenger app to stop opening external links in the built in - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

It's really irritating that there's no option to automatically open links externally and I have to chose open in browser every time.

Yeah, any third party message app does. It's a problem with the native one. I actually like the native one for once.

The "Facebook App" that is included with the device is really just an icon that loads the mobile website into the Silk browser. It's not the real Facebook app and you can't download the App from the Marketplace or the Google Market.
If you sideload the App, it appears to work when you first open it, but then later it will ALWAYS force close when you go to your News Feed. The only way to get it to load again is to clear the Cache and Storage area. So, the real Facebook App is actually useless on this device right now and you should just stick with the Facebook URL hyperlink icon that comes with the device.
I see, thanks for the explanation.
Anyway, on a 7" pad it should be comfortable to use the Facebook website, so what's the point in having a Facebook app ?

The mobile website IS pretty good now, but there are some things missing from it. For example, Facebook chat. You could just use the Messenger app, but still, it's nice to have everything in one place.
That is just one example, though.
i kinda prefer the Messenger app over Facebook app's own chat. so, Messenger works on the rooted Kindle Fire?
facebook app alternative
I don't know if any of you have tried out friendcaster but it's a great replacement for facebook. I use it on my viewsonic gtablet and it does everything the facebook app does and more.

[Q] facebook share option in camera app

I dont share photos often, but shouldnt there be an option to post a pic directly to facebook in our camera app? Is this possible? Do I need to add something? Or just SOL
there is, if you take a picture and then click the bottom right corner of the app it'll open up that recent picture then click the share button and then scroll to FB I just checked it and it should work. Maybe make sure you are logged into facebook on your phone and if you are try a restart or if that still isn't working I think there is a way to open said photo in a different photoviewing app (i recommend quickpic) and that will have the share feature, but if that app can share to facebook then your camera app should be able to as well. In which case maybe a reflash of the rom WITHOUT A DATA WIPE should do the trick.
You can also access the camera from the FB app and post the picture directly that way.
I acctually just use my browser to ,access fb cuz the app uses too much batt. Maybe u need to have the app to have the share option?

You do.
That sucks! The fb app takes away hours of battery life.

You can try FriendCaster and disable notifications. It's quite a bit less resource intensive than the official app.
you can also disable notifications in the official FB app as well but knowing facebook some sort of data nonsense will be going on in the background so you can use a data blocker like pdroid (i think that's the name) or autostart blocker to stop it from opening unless you open it.

[APP][4.0.3+] FB Most Recent

One of the things that bugs me about the Android Facebook app is that it always loads up the "Top Stories" screen by default. I always have to go the settings screen and select "Most Recent" manually before I can browse my timeline (because I prefer that view).
So I developed an app called "FB Most Recent" to provide one-touch access to the "Most Recent" feed in the Facebook app. It's now available in the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hedami.mrff
It's 100% free with no ads and no limitations. If you use the Facebook app and want a way to view your "Most Recent" list with one tap, this is the app for you!
If you find the app useful and want to help support it, you can optionally purchase the donation app for $1 found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hedami.mrffdonation
It just freezes an s4.

I tested on an S4 and it works fine on mine. Can you tell me what freezes exactly? Is it your phone? Is it the Facebook app? If it's the Facebook app, try uninstalling and re-installing the Facebook app.
Oh I don't have the fb app. Yes phone freezes until I press home. Your app never opens.

Yes, without the official Facebook app installed this app is pretty useless, as it simply opens the Facebook app and sorts the news feed to Most Recent

Yeah it would do that if the Facebook app wasn't installed. This app is designed specifically to launch the official Facebook app and display the "Most Recent" feed within that app.
But thanks for the report. I'll update the app so it doesn't hang like that if the official Facebook app is not installed on the device.
Version 1.0.1 has been submitted to the Play Store and should be available soon. If the official Facebook app isn't installed on the device, an error popup will be displayed indicating it's required.
Doesn't seem to work on latest update, still showing highlights. I'm using beta though so maybe that's the problem.

I suppose it could be because you're running the Facebook beta, but that shouldn't matter. I tried to join the beta to try it out myself, but it's not letting me. I would suggest uninstalling Facebook and re-installing it to see if that helps.

thank you

Oh...I thought you meant on the device itself, not the XDA forum app. Sorry. I've tried to find out and it doesn't seem possible yet.
Open Google+, go to menu, Settings, Account, Contacts, and turn on" Keep contacts up to date" and it will pull your profile image from your Google Account/G+ profile into the phone.

Oh... In the Forums... Sorry, thought you meant the user icon on your phone. I don't think you can set via your phone in the app, have to do it via web browser.

Any way to open an app from a URL?

I want to add a reminder to Inbox, which makes URL links clickable, to open an app on certain dates (in this case Nook.)
Is there any way I can make a URL that when clicked on my phone, will open that app on the phone?
The closest I've got is going to its Play Store entry.
Thanks!

I don't it will work that way because the app is on your device, your device nor your app are Web pages so how could a URL do this? Unless you can figure something similar to how an email with an XDA link can be opened in the XDA labs or Tapatalk app.
You can probably set something up between Gmail and Tasker to open the app.

Well I figured that Chrome had a way to parse certain links locally without a connection. Maybe something like app:// or local:// etc.

URLs don't work without being connected to a network that I know of. I could be wrong but when you click a link it has to run its course thru the network to find the URL, if that URL is on your device it still needs to go out over the network and make its way back to your device to open whatever you set the URL to open on your device.
