This application works the best for me, reads even the biggest codes in less than one second:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...rcode.barcode.scanner.reader.flashlight&hl=en
The code that you're trying to scan is most probably invalid if it doesn't detect with any apps that you try.

Not a single ad, popup or message for me, just automatic fast scanning. Weird

I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.scan.android.client
Have never had any issues with it. Just scan the code and click download.

Use bixby vision, hold the phone close to the code and not far away.
A QR option will appear.

Bixby works flawless for me, I don't understadn what the problem is...

Sorry on the reply delay. Bixby is working. I have to click the item sometimes or resize and QR code will pop up. I will try one of the app ad prevents.
I cant speak on a 3rd party QR reader. The highly rated ones i mentioned above didnt work though.

[APP][2.2+][NFC/QR] InstaWifi - Share and connect to wifi networks instantly

Hi fellow xda-developers,
I am happy to announce my first Android app, InstaWifi. InstaWifi is a new and fun way to connect and share your wifi networks with your friends and family.
I built this with NFC and QR code support. Simply tap on a NFC sticker or scan a QR code to connect to a wifi network instantly. Android Beam is also supported so you can skip the whole NFC sticker part.
Download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.jessechen.instawifi
For more details, screenshots, and tutorials, check out my website: http://www.instawifi.jessechen.net/
Looking forward to any feedback or comments you guys have. Thanks!
Looks great can't wait to try it out

Thanks, let me know how it goes!
Indeed looking great
Am I right someone WITHOUT root can use this to connect with current WiFi?
I suppose so..
Thanks

Two questions...
1) Does the other person need to have the app as well, or will just any QR scanner app on any Android device work with this?
2) You can probably guess where that question will lead next, if someone has an (ugh!) iPhone or iPad with a QR scanner app, will it be able to automatically connect as well?
Thanks!
Loving the concept of the app, and it Works!

Yes, root is ONLY used to pre-populate the security type and passwords so that you don't have to manually type it in yourself. It is not required at all in order for it to work otherwise.

1) The other person needs to have the Barcode Scanner app installed (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android). It's the most popular barcode scanner app out there with ~50,000,000 downloads, so most people should have it already.
2) iOS devices can't automatically connect unfortunately due to the limitations of apple's platform (apps cannot control/manipulate wifi). If that ever changes you know I'll be there to write an app that can do it!
Tested this with my Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100).
But I can't connect to my Wifi via QR-Code. Is there a (known) issue with hidden SSIDs maybe?
The Wifi Settings of the phone tell me the Wifi is "not in range".
I'm on CM10 with Siyah Kernel.
An excellent app.
An extremely minor suggestion: not use a square icon but one with a "distinctive silhouette".
Can totally be ignored though

Hi, I have a Galaxy Nexus with CM10 and InstaWifi is no longer populating the password field.
Code:
D/su (20451): 10080 net.jessechen.instawifi executing 0 /system/bin/sh using shell /system/bin/sh : sh
I/k (20159): sudo made me a sandwich
I/k (20159): no root access, returning null password value

As I don't have NFC can the QR code be saved so it can be opened in gallery later, rather than having to launch InstaWiFi again?
You might also want to add cancel to the popup that asks to connect to WiFi. I opened in error and had to turn on WiFi before I could exit out of InstaWiFi.
Just my .02 cents.
Nice Idea, but Useless...
Its a nice idea though. But its a useless and impractical idea.
I think verbally spelling out the wifi password to the guests/friends is easier, time saving and hassle free because everyone has at least mouth & ears to communicate password.
Everyone doesn't have that app,
Everyone doesn't have Android,
Everyone doesn't have QR code reader/Barcode reader,
Everyone doesn't have NFC or beam
and to avoid all the hussles and frustration of not getting it through.... just communicate the password verbally... It just takes a moment to say a password rather than bieng in this hassle

Nobody answered pretty straight forward question. Does the receiver needs to have the InstaWifi app?
If yes, petty because it is easier to pass the password old fashion way.
If not, great app, especially for bars or public places...

Short answer: no.
According to the xda video on InstaWifi the recipient/receiver just needs to scan the QR-Code or a NFC capable smartphone.
Edit:
Apparently it is not as a simple/short answer as a 'no'. Sorry, my bad. The OP explained it in the post below.
Thx for the clarification.

Yeah, I understand that this can be a bit confusing. I'll try to break it down as simple as I can:
NFC:
1) Receiver must have the app installed, Android does not have native support to connect to a wifi network instantly, an app (which in this case, InstaWifi) needs to handle the incoming NFC data and connect to wifi for you.
2) If the receiver does not have the app installed, tapping the NFC sticker automatically takes you to the play store to download InstaWifi. Once it's downloaded, tap the sticker again and you should be good to go (hopefully less than 20 seconds for the whole ordeal, which can still be faster than typing out a super long password).
QR:
1) Receiver does not have to have InstaWifi installed. Reciever needs to have the Barcode Scanner app installed for it to work.
Hope that clarifies some things.
kool concept Loving app
But what if someone wants to use wifi and already at your house and has neither Data plan or QR reader or this app lol

Friend: but i dont have the QR Code reader
Me: Oh! AngSanley said you can always download it from Play store
Friend: But how can i download it from the Play store unless you don't tell me the password to connect to internet through wifi?

[GUIDE] How to bypass T-Mobile's tether block using Firefox

Hello everyone, so I recently finally got blocked from tethering by T-Mobile after a long time of sucking it out of them by being rooted and on a custom ROM like all of us here.
The way they know you are tethering on their network is by the User Agent that is sent to them by your desktop/laptop computer browser. When they see that a regular browser is accessing their network, that's when you get the infamous T-Mobile Hotspot Screen we all hate.
I've recently discovered a Firefox Add-On called User Agent Switcher found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/?src=search
Download it and install it to Firefox. Then download this (right click, "Save as") http://techpatterns.com/downloads/firefox/useragentswitcher.xml
Go to Tools>User Agent>Edit User Agents (a window pops up) click on "Import.." and add the .xml file you just downloaded.
Then pick a User Agent that resembles the Sensation webkit and BAM! Free tethering for all of us.
I'm using it right now
NOTE: If you use a Googlebot User Agent, you will be able to tether and always load up full webpages instead of mobile versions. - Thanks to The Archangel and chadwick3nser for discovering this!
You can also do the same with chrome.

What are you using to block the IP address? I was thinking just changing the IP to not be the standard DHCP that the phone would give you still shows it coming from another MAC address on the same connection and would be obvious to the write sniffing rules?
I realize this isn't a requirement I've been using the UA for a while from canary but I easily see them stopping this workaround w/ better sniffing rules.

This is a very bad advice as pretending to be a googlebot may get you either blocked or banned from many websites (especially if they use ZBBlock) as this behavior is rated as a spammer/bot activity.

Okay I've been tethering fine for a while on FF, but T-Mobile finally blocked me yesterday... I figured out that it was the second I started to watch a YouTube video. Guessing they're able to see activity on my cell account at the same time as my login is accessing YouTube and put 2&2 together...? (That may be obvious to some...)
Anyway... I may try the user agent spoofing but this is really aggravating since I'm traveling right now and the internets in my hotel are $10/day.

Anyone figure out how to use netflix while spoofing in Firefox? I've been settling for Amazon Prime instant video, but I'd love to have Netflix back. With the UA spoof, Netflix won't play movies. At least I haven't figured out how.

Request for s4 svoice

I know that it was originally released for the s3 awhile back when it was leaked. But that no longer works is anyone working on getting the svoice off and working on the s3 by any chance?
From what I understand, Samsung has found out about the leak and shutdown the servers. If you install it, you will just get network error. We are hoping that once most carriers start to officialy release the S4 that it will start working again.Until then, I dont think there is really anything else that can be done to get it working.
I'm using the s4 svoice just fine no errors.

All personal preference i suspect. You may hate it and others may love it. Neither position is right or wrong.
Good point!
Could it be possible that those who thought the S4 S-Voice wasn't working had it confused with the new S4 S-Translate? I know there were issues with that one connecting when it was pulled from the system dump.
In any case, I've been using the new S-Voice for a while now... The driving mode is pretty cool, and I still like the "humerous" responses it gives (personality if you will). The voice has got to be changed though, it's murder on the ears.

still prefer google search though...manged to find instructions on how to switch the double tap button to launch google voice search instead of S voice...

Really weird Wi-Fi question...

Okay, so at school on the Wi-Fi, I cannot log into Pandora, or Facebook. However, my friend on his droid can log in, as well as my other friend with her 4S. Now you need to access a portal to login to the Wi-Fi, but I logged onto my Wi-Fi on his Android and it is still unblocked even though on my Nexus 5 Pandora and Facebook is blocked. He logged into his Wi-Fi on my Nexus 5 and it's still blocked.
Why would only certain apps not work on my Nexus 5 on the WiFi but on their phones it still works? I'm really confused? Even if I login to the WiFi on my account on their phone it's still blocked...

You just solved your issue. Obviously your account has a restriction on it for accessing social sites, and their accounts don't. If you're blocked when using their phone, that's the only answer.
No one can help you here.... You need to ask your account administrator.

Well, I can't help. If WiFi works for some things, and not others.... Then it must be an issue with those apps, or your setup or something.

Perhaps you should edit post 1 to make sense then because you said the opposite as per the quote.
It doesn't make sense. I brought my old phone to school and FB works and everything. Nexus 5? Nope. My Nexus 5 won't load it, like it's blocked but its not. Guess I'll bring my old phone if I want to use Wi-Fi at school for FB? I mean Wi-Fi works. I can search and go on Instagram. But FB? No.

Or the traffic protocols are different for apps than web and thusly the admins forgot to block them.
Spoiler
Now I do not condone this action, however on desktop and web browsers there is a work around (sometimes) just add https:// before the social network site. Ex.https://www.Facebook.com
Or if it is blocked like that try http:// instead.
Again, if you get caught and punished because this works, I am not at fault.

Perhaps you're right, FB is blocked on desktop computers. And mobile browsers but apps on iOS and I guess other Androids besides my N5 it's unblocked. Maybe it's something with stock Android.

do you have the "request desktop site" button checked? perhaps a change of browsers?

No lol it's the actual apps themeselves. FB just says there id no connection, Pandora loads infinitely but on my Inspire, another droid and an iPhone it works just fine. It isn't my account because I signed into the WiFi on their phones and their apps still loaded.

Got my P40 Pro but my banks aren't available via apps, is using the web browser safe?

Hi guys,
been using my p40 pro for a week now, have most of my apps tbf so cant complain but i dont have nationwide or bankofscotland app.. The website is laid out pretty much exactly like the app anyway so thats fine but is it safe enough to just shortcut it to my homepage? all help is appreciated.
thanks!
