Bixby Assistant - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Does anybody have any updates when we'll get the Bixby Voice assistant in USA? It really disappointing that not only Korea got it, but there rumors about Bixby voice assistant for the fridges.? Wish they could have it situated already. I'm anxious to see how it is.

I think it's doomed. Too much competition, proprietary to devices, and launched incomplete meaning most average users will have already dismissed it and won't be likely to give it a second look.

Samsung would be better off getting amazon to partner up and attach an android alexa version on that button. Essentially sell the physical button real estate to an established player that people in the US would be interested in actually using.

[Q] other services like squaretrade

Hello everybody,
I bought Asus Inifinity back in July in US. However, I didn't realize till now that I can't use nvFlash to backup my tablet anymore and also I am not eligible for squaretrade warranty after 90 days.
Are there any more good services like this?
Thanks

1. You refer you bought it in the US. Where do you live?
2. I believe there are no options beside ST -- with the answer to 1. others might be able to help you out, though.
US
There's others. I can't recall their names off hand, but none offers a better deal overall than Squaretrade.

Full Screen Ads

I know, I know. Airpush detector. I tried and uninstalled everything and I'm getting this annoying ad all day. Any suggestions?
Okay, I figured out that at least one of the ads was coming from tapcommerce, which is owned by Twitter! So I uninstalled twitter...
Also, on tapcommerce website, there is a page that reads Opt Out. However, there's no actual way to opt out.
http://tapcommerce.com/opt-out.html#
Pay for Adguard, I paid 22 for a lifetime license on my phone. Only issue I have noticed with Adguard is that it takes some battery. Here's the link if you want to try it out.

Unfortunately, this is what I had to do. So far, no more full screen ads. Still, I'd like to find the culprit app that's doing this, but I've uninstalled a ton of newer installations (since this only started recently) and still have no idea which app these were coming from.
Whats a good app to detect and remove pop up ads? I use Adware now.

Netflix

How do we claim the netflix offer?
They told me you will receive some type of voucher. I'm not sure when though. I have T-Mobile USA
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's the T-Mobile claim link. It was not yet active yesterday, but you can enter your email to be notified when it is. Site says March 4th.

There is a flyer in the box that has instructions. Basically go to some website, register, wait for email for Netflix code, go to Netflix and enter code.

The flyer takes you to the page mentioned above. There is only a Samsung page, not Netflix page.
Remember, only 25,000 Netflix codes.

Really only 25k? Sounds like some bad press for T-Mobile and Samsung coming soon.

That's what the instructions say.
Anyone sell the Netflix with the S6 deal before? Is it OK?
From what I understand you get the code after registering for the vr promo which starts the 4th. I did the Netflix thing last year for me and my wife and we put both codes on the same account. Also you can cancel the account and get a refund from Netflix for the entire value of the codes.

Damn Twitter. When you click on the option to see the conversation you think you'd get to see it. Nope. That message came in two parts. It looks like more of the no info. At the very least they point me to an article that mentions the petition so T-Mobile knows about the petition I guess.

Android security patch level for SM-G930U

I'm excited to own this new phone but I'm disappointed to see that the security patch level for this phone is at May 1st. This means the phone missing both June and July security patch updates. I tried to force an update but there was nothing to fetch. I'm using this model on Sprint's network.
Are other people with this model also seeing out of date security patches? Do GS7 phones usually get security patches on time?
The G930U is the only US variant that hasn't received updates yet. Updates are supposed to come directly from Samsung. The other variants receive updates on a very timely fashion.

Do you know other model S7's tied to carriers have gotten security updates since May, or is it just that Google released them since then? I'm trying to clarify the update situation with Samsung support right now. They seem confused...

G930T, G930A, G930V, G930P (T-mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint)
They all receive security updates early of the month, if not days before the first. As another member mentioned in another thread, give it a couple weeks. It's a new phone so they probably have to add it to their server(s) and push out the updates. Seeing as its been out for 2? weeks or so, I'm giving them till next month to get things sorted.
Either way, I disabled all updates on my Sprint variant since pre-release and never had an issue.
Samsung support is saying I can try 1) manual updates on the phone, 2) connect to a PC and try Smart Switch, or 3) take the phone to Best Buy and get them to update it. Yeah, I'm hoping it new model chaos, and the AT&T LTE issues, and the update situation will get straightened out. We'll see.

There's a thread here regarding it. Some AT&T users can't get LTE.
---------- Post added at 11:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 PM ----------
Well, Samsung support says Samsung doesn't issue updates and has no mechanism for doing that. They could only recommend contacting the carrier(for a phone not tied to any carrier?) or taking the phone to Best Buy and having them update it. I'll see what Best Buy says tomorrow, but not optimistic.
You need to at least understand that best buy can not update your phone....

Yeah, I assumed that. Samsung says Best Buy has the "tools" to update my phone. Sounds like we're SOL on updates, which could well force me to return the G930U.

Lol cmon man you are listening to the clueless samsung support people and taking phone to best buy for update? Really? Best buy is just selling you the phone and they have nothing to do with software on the unlocked or carrier variant.
Give it a some time the update will come directly from Samsung whenever that is. But word of advice don't bother calling samsung support since they will have no clue, heck they won't even have a clue about this model. They will probably read stuff from some notes or guidelines they have in front of them.

They have no special tools. They can hook up your phone to probably smart switch or something to see if there is an update on Samsung server Same thing you can do on your PC or via check updates from phone.

Actually it wasn't Best Buy they referred me to, it was the Samsung Experience in Best Buy. Samsung just sets up space in some Best Buy stores. Anyway, contacted the guy and he quickly understood what I was getting at. They do have a method of updating phones with patches from all the carriers. He did some checking and says the G930U model isn't even in their system yet. The G935U is, but no patches show up for it either. He's supposed to monitor and let me know when something is available, but we'll probably be able to see it on the phones about the time he does. Not exactly reassuring as far as updates on this model. Obviously the product release got ahead of the support network, so we'll just have to see how it plays out.

Totally calling BS. You are trying to save face and frankly not doing a very good job. The Samsung experience as you call it is just a few tables and signs devoted to Samsung in best buy stores. Same crappy store, same totally incompetent employees. What you are saying is total BS.

Listen sport, I'm telling you exactly what happened. I called Best Buy, was told the Samsung Experience is not actually Best Buy, but a separate entity that uses space in Best Buy stores. The Samsung guy I talked to was not an incompetent idiot. I have no idea what they're like in other stores, or what your experience has been, but what I said is accurate. I couldn't care less what you or anyone else here thinks about me, I just want a solution to the problem. If you can offer help then great, if not the f-off.

Irrespective of best buy or Samsung employee @samnada is trying to see if he can get update to his phone from them. @samnada don't bother asking any of them Samsung/Best buy or Samsung customer care. They won't have any info, just wait until Samsung pushes the update. It can be tomorrow or a months time. Have patience is all what I can say.
