I'm excited to own this new phone but I'm disappointed to see that the security patch level for this phone is at May 1st. This means the phone missing both June and July security patch updates. I tried to force an update but there was nothing to fetch. I'm using this model on Sprint's network.
Are other people with this model also seeing out of date security patches? Do GS7 phones usually get security patches on time?
The G930U is the only US variant that hasn't received updates yet. Updates are supposed to come directly from Samsung. The other variants receive updates on a very timely fashion.

Do you know other model S7's tied to carriers have gotten security updates since May, or is it just that Google released them since then? I'm trying to clarify the update situation with Samsung support right now. They seem confused...

G930T, G930A, G930V, G930P (T-mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint)
They all receive security updates early of the month, if not days before the first. As another member mentioned in another thread, give it a couple weeks. It's a new phone so they probably have to add it to their server(s) and push out the updates. Seeing as its been out for 2? weeks or so, I'm giving them till next month to get things sorted.
Either way, I disabled all updates on my Sprint variant since pre-release and never had an issue.
Samsung support is saying I can try 1) manual updates on the phone, 2) connect to a PC and try Smart Switch, or 3) take the phone to Best Buy and get them to update it. Yeah, I'm hoping it new model chaos, and the AT&T LTE issues, and the update situation will get straightened out. We'll see.

There's a thread here regarding it. Some AT&T users can't get LTE.

Well, Samsung support says Samsung doesn't issue updates and has no mechanism for doing that. They could only recommend contacting the carrier(for a phone not tied to any carrier?) or taking the phone to Best Buy and having them update it. I'll see what Best Buy says tomorrow, but not optimistic.
You need to at least understand that best buy can not update your phone....

Yeah, I assumed that. Samsung says Best Buy has the "tools" to update my phone. Sounds like we're SOL on updates, which could well force me to return the G930U.

Lol cmon man you are listening to the clueless samsung support people and taking phone to best buy for update? Really? Best buy is just selling you the phone and they have nothing to do with software on the unlocked or carrier variant.
Give it a some time the update will come directly from Samsung whenever that is. But word of advice don't bother calling samsung support since they will have no clue, heck they won't even have a clue about this model. They will probably read stuff from some notes or guidelines they have in front of them.

They have no special tools. They can hook up your phone to probably smart switch or something to see if there is an update on Samsung server Same thing you can do on your PC or via check updates from phone.

Actually it wasn't Best Buy they referred me to, it was the Samsung Experience in Best Buy. Samsung just sets up space in some Best Buy stores. Anyway, contacted the guy and he quickly understood what I was getting at. They do have a method of updating phones with patches from all the carriers. He did some checking and says the G930U model isn't even in their system yet. The G935U is, but no patches show up for it either. He's supposed to monitor and let me know when something is available, but we'll probably be able to see it on the phones about the time he does. Not exactly reassuring as far as updates on this model. Obviously the product release got ahead of the support network, so we'll just have to see how it plays out.

Listen sport, I'm telling you exactly what happened. I called Best Buy, was told the Samsung Experience is not actually Best Buy, but a separate entity that uses space in Best Buy stores. The Samsung guy I talked to was not an incompetent idiot. I have no idea what they're like in other stores, or what your experience has been, but what I said is accurate. I couldn't care less what you or anyone else here thinks about me, I just want a solution to the problem. If you can offer help then great, if not the f-off.

Irrespective of best buy or Samsung employee @samnada is trying to see if he can get update to his phone from them. @samnada don't bother asking any of them Samsung/Best buy or Samsung customer care. They won't have any info, just wait until Samsung pushes the update. It can be tomorrow or a months time. Have patience is all what I can say.

As per title.... I asked Expansys USA to confirm which variant they would be selling and the office manager (Caroline Philipchuck) checked with their procurement and confirmed that the units are sourced from South America and are the Octa without LTE. Again, without LTE despite what it says on their website.
Release date?
I don't have LTE in my area and wont for years so I preordered this hoping it would be the Octa as stated. This morning I got an email saying they were shipping next week and to confirm my order for immedieate shipment. Thats when I contacted them to confirm which variant. Whether it actually ships then, got no idea.
I've just ordered mine after they confirmed (by chat) it has Exynos 5 Octa.
I'm from Europe and they use FR office to serve european customers, They will receive it in USA office next week so i think it will be shipped between 5/10 days.
I'm from the UK so will I be able to purchase it from the US site? And will it charge me import fee?

well negrielectronics also has the Exysnos 5 octa on preorder but it will cost you around 1000$.

NewEgg get's most of their devices from Trinidad so they'll be Octa/HSPA too.

The current status says due May 4th
Here's a helpful hint about Expansys. Their online inventory isn't real time and fluctuates madly as do the availability and shipment dates. They only work business hours Monday through Friday and aren't particularly responsive to e-mails depending on the time of day they are received. I've ordered a bunch of stuff from them and they've always been reliable (dates and time aside) and easy to work with as I had a couple of returns/exchanges. So save yourself a lot of head banging based on expected delivery; you'll get what you ordered but it's not always going to be on the timetable indicated.
Agree with Barry on them and have ordered there numberous times myself. Best to ignore their online status for anything and simply call or email. Once contact has been made they have always followed through for me. At first I thought they were kind of sketchy but they have an odd knack for pulling through despite the somewhat irregular service.
$775 though.....yeesh.

The one yuo linked to is the LTA version..
Not sure what LTA is...
But the regular non-LTA, non-LTE Exynos version is priced a quite bit cheaper ~$800

Not sure what LTA stands for, maybe LTE but in a different language? lol.
I dont know why people must have the octa version. The differences in performance is not that big. And neither is the battery. Games peforms better in snapdragon chispet and In daily use of both two phones, you wont see the difference at all. What important is the LTE and dev support. Believe me, i have a s3, the dev there pull their hair off when they try to develop roms for the s3.
And trust me, you dont want to have the octa chipset, in view of dev support. All the experienced exynos developers will not support the chipset anymore. It take 2 week to develop a good aosp rom for sony experia z and it take 16! month to develop the same thing for samsung s3, and it still buggy.
So why would you still buy the exynos chipset phone?
Sorry for my bad english btw
Dont care about the performance as phones have reached a level of performance that fully satisfies me, I'm in it for the batt life. No insult to the gents working on ASOP for whom I have nothing but props but I prefer touchwiz based roms for the time being meaning support isn't a concern for me. Nor do I care about LTE since my area isn't even on my carriers road map yet. I get a new phone at the most annually but ususally sooner so I'm going to try out the Octa and see how it goes. If the better battery plays out great, if not the next thing is always coming and the Octa becomes one more phone in a long succession phones that have gone on to their next owner. The long and the short of it is I lose nothing by giving the Octa a spin so I'm going to do just that.

They are absolutely fine, before and after the sale. When new devices come out their slammed because they can show availability when they don't have any and people get frustrated with the delay(s). I've never heard anyone complain that they didn't get what they ordered (at some point) or that they in any way felt ripped-off. I'd suggest calling rather than e-mailing though if you need them because at times they can be slow to respond. Like I said before I've had to do some returns and exchanges and they were really accommodating.

Until they change the price, try to send you something else, say a release date before anyone else on the planet and then when unsurprisingly the stock doesn't arrive in time tell lies. Search Negri on the sgs3 forum if you want to read a story about how to make certain a whole bunch of people will never order from then again.

2012 Nexus 4 did. On the release day in November, was supposed to go on sale at 8am PDT, but really went live 15 minutes early. By the time people signed on at the top of the hour, stock was GONE. SOLD OUT. Weeks later came back, then disappeared just as quickly -- like in 30 minutes. Cat and mouse until January when supply stabilized.
The 2011 Gen3 Galaxy Nexus was not initially on Google Play, being added later months after release. It was called Google Market back then and was not as developed as it is now.
Expect most of us to not get this phone until the end of the year. Sad truth, but high demand and low supply is the reason.
it will sell out with in 5 minutes after the release. The demand is too high.

NOT pointless, as sometimes history is your guide.
For instance, Google has never released a Nexus phone before November.
January (gen1)
December (gen2)
November (gen3)
November (gen4).
(Yes, January comes after November and December, just like New Year's comes after Christmas.)
The last two years Google has settled on October ANNOUNCEMENTS, followed by November RELEASE. Sure, they can change that, but until you get past January, the Nexus is NOT delayed. Or at least past November, if you are just looking at the last two years.
And knowing the history of the Nexus 4, you know to NOT believe Google's statement when it will go on sale. You know to get in early. The site may go live much earlier than stated.
And knowing how fast the Nexus 4 sold out, you know not to be disappointed if you don't get one right now.
So, it's all useful information.

But if Amazon, might be for CONTRACT phones, like with Sprint, AT&T -- not necessarily Amazon selling for Google. Amazon sells a lot of phones at discount, if you sign a contract with major carrier. They act as an agent for those carriers.

Possible, but they DO off-contract units too...I was hoping El Goog realised their own store is not up to task, and came to their senses! LOL!
Would really love it if Amazon sold it today. Being a Prime member it would be nice to know that I could get it tomorrow for $4. Not only that Google is going to charge me tax. Amazon most likely will not. I will secure one on the Play Store and then check Amazon. If it's there totally buying it there and cancelling the Play Store order.

Yes, Amazon sells the excellent Sony Xperia ZL C6506 off contract. It was Sony's compact version of the Xperia Z and could be considered Sony's version of a Nexus phone -- unlocked, quad core, 5", 1080p, 13MP camera, pentaband HSPA+ with multiple LTE bands. (The C6506 is the North America version.)
It was my back up choice if the Nexus 5 wasn't done right.
Comes in 3 colors. Still a good phone, but Sony needs to update it to Snapdragon 800.

It would also resolve a LOT of international buyers' frustrations, too. That is why the elusive article piqued my interest.

Hmmm..has TMO LTE bands...wonder about boot loader and dev?
So I recent cracked my Nexus 5 and went to Sprint and T-Mobile to get a new one. (Looking to buy it out right to avoid waiting for a new one.) I was told at 2 sprint stores and 1 T-Mobile store that Google has stopped production on the phones and they are out of stock before finding what I was looking for at the last T-Mobile store. The last guy also told me they won't be getting anymore stock. So I'm imagining that the N6 is coming and coming real soon if they've stopped production in the N5. I know it usually comes around Oct-Nov but hopefully we get it sooner before later.
You really believe what people at T-Mobile/Sprint said?
Production of the Nexus 5 hasn't stopped and can still be purchased thru google.
You should of slapped them in the face for saying such idiotic things lol
A google rep told me the same thing

They have support reps for their hardware.
As far as the rep being "hush hush" about the N6 It's probably because the rep didn't say anything about it. Honestly, those guys don't know anything other than what the public knows about upcoming devices.

There's really no secrets lol. I think the N6 is that posters belief as to the reason why it is not being produced anymore. There's really no secrets about the new nexus, it comes every year at about the same time. Everyone starts speculating in february but every year it gets released at the same time
i was talking to her about an RMA, You can ask them yourself if you like,

Like someone else said Google does have rep for their hardware which is who you call when you need support for your device you purchased from the play store.
I would think that a T-Mobile rep would have a good idea of their inventory. Just because Google has some for sell doesn't necessarily mean they are still making them, you see there is this thing called back stock. I'm not saying that the T-Mobile/Sprint reps are right but to hear it from 4 different reps at 4 different stores from 2 different carriers leads me to think maybe, just maybe.

The Tmobile stores around me (4 of them) still have the phone on display and in stock and on their site. Maybe you had someone who is misinformed or maybe they didn't get stock and it wasn't communicated properly.

There is a Redditch thread confirming what I was told and there are now rumors of Google announcing the Nexus 6(?) In about 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I was and I'm not saying that I wasn't but I managed to find a Nexus at a store which says back stock to me.

It could also simply mean they are not replacing stock in certain countries. You would have to be in contact with LG contracted factories in China to know if they are still making them or not, I doubt T-Mobile, Sprint, or Google reps have these contacts.
You know what! You're absolutely right. Why would they want to keep the people selling and supporting their device if they are going to be selling their product anymore... That wouldn't make any sense.
They probably want to push certain markets to get their new products, but that is not going to work for all markets. Picking up a brand new N5 in China or Hongkong is very easy right now. They are all over the place. I would imagine places with issues would be North America, Western Europe, and Aus/NZ. If you put two and two together, they want rich countries to purchase their new device but at the same time understand most of the worlds markets will not go for the new device because of funds.
They can make more money by pushing the N6 on the US, than by continuing to stock the N5. The opposite is true in other places. Ending the N5 will mean they lose money.

Carries in the states make almost no money on phone sales. They get their money from subscribers. They could care less what phone you are using.
I think that there is a very good chance neither Sprint or T-mobile are still offering the Nexus 5 (aside from in-store stock still available), but Google Play has all models and sizes in-stock at the moment. I don't think the phone has been killed just yet. I certainly hope the Nexus X is only a few weeks off, but I don't believe it yet.
I'm a rep at sprint that phone went end of life like the day of the iPhone 6 launch I was so mad that they did that I sell the nexus 5 a lot

I will be upgrading my phone in the next month and will demand an unlock code from Att doubt it will be helpful for the masses but we shall see.
---------- Post added at 02:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:32 AM ----------
Well unlocking it from Att I mean, hopefully I can find something in that process. I've given up hope on it and now will only buy nexus devices or unlocked phones. I don't want to switch carriers as I have a really good grandfather plan lol

No, but my care as to risk for bricking goes completely away LOL. Paperweight for trying or just going into a drawer to die with my pile of AT&T phones.

If you can unlock your v10, then what can help is if youll pull the full system image. If its possible. Then zip it and send it off to either LGMONO or ZVNexus.
Will do.
Personally I'm very weirded out by all of this. The LG V10 was arguably the very best removable battery and expandable storage device in existence. Even with that, it seems to get little attention. Even after the root solution was found. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into finding these solutions. This community is without parallel. Just seems weird that this phone didn't get more love considering what it brings to the table compared to the rest of the smartphone universe that resists giving you access to your battery or the option to add storage.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

Why wasn't this just opened as a new thread instead of posting it in all the other ones?
EDIT: Oh.. maybe you can't until 20 posts now.
A friend recently bought the Samsung S8+ at Best Buy. Apparently Samsung doesn't recognize the IMEI on the device. Is this common?

For premier care? Yes, samsung has problems and can't fix them. This s8 will be my last samsung product due to thier incompetence. I have had enough.

Call the customer care and give them your S8 plus IMEI. I complained to them and told him the IMEI is not even registered in the system and I bought it like last week!!!
The Apple iPhone is way better, I told them!!
Few days later, I was able to access Samsung + app on the phone and was able to add Samsung Premium Care but It would ask you to take pictures of your phone's conditions first before they enroll you in the Samsung premium care.
I spent 3 weeks bouncing between customer service and premium care trying to get my phone on premium care. Customer service said it was available for my phone, premium care kept saying they could not put it in for some reason, and that they would get it fixed in a few days. They never did. Now I have a cracked screen and my wireless charging stopped working. $25,000 in samsung electronics over the years, no more. If I eat the price of this phone, never another samsung product ever, and I need new appliances in the next couple years. Oh well. I will make sure everyone knows how incompetent they are, maybe others will think about it in the future.

It must be because I called samsung . I had a question about my unlocked s8+ and the rep asked me for the IMEI and he said it was recognized and asked me if it was the international s8+..when it was purchased straight from samsung...weird!
I wish my S8 plus was rooted?

I hate calling in to samsung because every person I speak with I can not hardly understand what they are saying. They can hardly speak a word of English and I have to repeat every word I say. So if they can't understand English how in the hell are they gonna know how to fix anything! SAMSUNG is a billion doller Corp and yet can not afford to send there employees/operators to grammar school. I told the last Sammy rep I was talking to a mouth full. I explained to him I basically had to spell it out for him. On how bad his English was and that it was a joke calling in to samsung and expect there incompetent phone ranglers to answer a simple question without having to repeat myself 3 or 4 times. I told him my name like 3 times and he keep calling me by a different name, I finally had to spell it out for him. I do not care who samsung hires all I ask is if there gonna answer phones at least know how to speak and understand the English [email protected]#n language. Is that to much to ask.....I was on the phone with this crack pot for about 30mins when it should of took 5. SAMSUNG IS A JOKE!
I wish my S8 plus was rooted?
