Coming from years of owning Nexus devices, the dev community always came up with a way to calibrate the display to user preference. Importantly, Samsung added some built in options in order to tune the screen, some of which will lead to a more natural color gamut instead of the overblown colors that many displays come with.
So what's your preference? Since, we have RGB controls now, perhaps we can come up with some suggestions for others to use?
I use AMOLED Cinema since its a more accurate color gamut, especially when viewing photos.
Basic!
WQHD
Adaptive display
Red 50%
Green 75%
Blue 100%
Edge color didn't touch
Screen brightness at 50% all the time.

I actually wish there was a dynamic mode still available. I like the oversaturated colors of previous Samsung's.
Basic all the way, because that's the properly calibrated, natural one.

This hands on from GSMArena shows an Adobe RGB mode in the screen mode settings. It seems to have taken the place of the "natural" mode in the GS3 and Note 2. My question is, do you think it will be drastically better than the old natural mode?
I've owned the GS3 and now am rocking a Note 2. Switching to natural mode turns everything lackluster, grainy, and dingy looking. It almost feels like its turning off some subpixels. The contrast goes down and whites look even grayer. I've tried using it a few times, but always get really annoyed and switched back to standard. It's suppose to bridge the gap and be more pleasant like the natural colors of an LCD, but all it does is make the screen look defective to me.
One of the biggest problems with AMOLED is that when you turn up the brightness, the colors also change. It's consistently saturated, but not consistently of the same color. Greens always make me barf, and there are so many kinds of green. The weather widget and Lord of the Rings trailers are good examples. Do you think the Galaxy S4 has improved on color consistency over varying brightness settings?
I cannot tell much from the GSMArena video nor have I seen the phone in person. But I would like to hear your thoughts if you think the S4 screen color fidelity has improved much from its previous iteration, with or without the new Adobe RGB screen mode. Or if you could link to sites that have examined this in detail with actual units. The more generic reviews like to absentmindedly say the "natural" mode fixes the color issues with Samsung's panels, but that has not been the case for me, and am hoping the Adobe RGB mode and Samsung's new 1080p panel might not be just the same old same old.

Spoke with someone today who had some hands-on, he's a guy who really obsesses over colour temperature too (like me), he said it wasn't quite as good as the Perseus kernel master settings for screen calibration, but did make a very noticeable difference for the better. Incidentally, it you're with a Note 2 you should try Perseus out. I would not be without its colour tuning now (just give yourself a while to adjust, its such a big change from the Samsung colour calibration that it takes some getting used to).
Galaxy S4 also have 4 manual mode to switch on and 7 automatic modes .....
In the smartphone market the majority of displays are either AMOLED or LCD, but many people don't know that the wallpaper color you choose, yes, wallpaper, can actually make a difference to your smartphone battery life depending on the type of screen with which your device is equipped. Pure black wallpaper, or a dark-colored background in general, can actually save you a significant amount of battery life.
Display tech explained: LCD
LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display and it's the same kind of technology you'll find in your televisions, monitors and so on. As the name suggests, Liquid Crystal Displays are actually crystals, and as such, they don't emit light of their own but rather transmit light from a light source behind them.
This means that even if you're looking at black on your smartphone or tablet screen, it is actually black lit up from behind. Therefore, LCDs don't really display "true" black
Display tech explained: AMOLED and OLED
Next, AMOLED. AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode and it is also used for televisions screens but more notably, for smartphones. OLED displays are similar, but do not use an Active Matrix.
Samsung displays, for example, are usually AMOLED: the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 all use an AMOLED display. The LG G Flex 2 uses a Plastic OLED display and the Google Nexus 6 also uses an AMOLED screen.
As the name implies, the screen is made up of organic material that actually produces light when a current is passed through it – electroluminescence. Because AMOLED displays can be lit up pixel by pixel like on the Moto X, black is "true" black because there is no back-lighting.
This also means AMOLED displays are easier on your battery because every pixel is not always lit up.
Battery life: AMOLED vs LCD
AMOLED
You can probably see where this is going: if you have an AMOLED display then you can actually save some battery life by using black wallpapers, or generally darker wallpapers and themes.
little experiment and figured out that you can save about 6% battery life/hour at 20% brightness by using a black wallpaper on an AMOLED display, and about 8%/hour at full brightness.
These results are based on an always-on screen, but the basic theory is sound even if the figures are not exactly set in stone. Another tester using a different method came up with a general 18% saving all day.
LCD
What about LCD battery saving wallpaper, I hear you ask? Sorry, LCDs rely on back-lighting, so there's nothing you can do to save battery there.
The only thing you can do is set your device settings to Battery Saver mode and try not to turn your screen on all the time. Keep your display brightness as low as possible and your screen timeout nice and short.
The good news is you can have the brightest colored wallpaper and themes imaginable and it won't make a difference to your battery. Just think about that when you look at the gloomy screens of AMOLED owners clinging to extended battery life (just don't stray too far from a charger while you gloat).
Other battery life tips for AMOLED screens
There are other things AMOLED owners can do to maximize their battery life too, like setting as many app themes to be as dark as possible.
If you can change the appearance of a bunch of apps you use frequently (or download a different app that does the same thing but that does allow appearance customization), you can save even more battery life.
After all, we don't spend all day on our home screens but more time in apps. You can also set your text and email preferences to be black background and white text, depending on your device and chosen apps.
The easiest way to figure it out for yourself is to fully charge your device as is and wait until it's almost totally dead and look at how much of your battery was used by the display. Just go into your Settings menu and look under Device Settings for Battery.
Make a note of the percentage your display has used up, then, while recharging your phone, switch to a black wallpaper and repeat the cycle to see the difference.

Checked out the xl2 at verizon. Colors seems having too much black. Still has greenish color shifting in some viewing angle

Yes couldn't agree more, my pixel XL 2 is so washed out I'm tempted to switch back to my note 8!!

Compared to a over saturated Samsung it probably does look washed out, in the picture posted, look at the hearts, the pixel looks red and you can see how oversaturated the Sammy is

Well in contrast, look at the beach on both photos. When I looked at both side by side, Pixel definitely lacked saturation in my opinion. I guess it comes down to personal preference but I never understood why people wouldn't like Samsungs saturation. Makes everything look much nicer, and if one wants to mute colors, there are a bunch of profiles in the settings as well as adjustments for individual colors. When you lack saturated colors like on this Pixel to begin with, you can't just bring more color out that easily.
The Verizon I went to had it setup with some preloaded messages, didn't actually get to see the OS and working screens. My comparison would be to the numbers the display is measured at, delta E, gamma, etc,... that is the only true measurement of color accuracy.
A similar post on Reddit mentioned that the Pixel 2 XL is set to sRGB mode by default, and that there was a toggle to make it more vibrant somewhere in the display settings. It would be interesting to see the same comparison with that toggle set to "On" with the Pixel (assuming that the info is good, and that the toggle exists at all).

That's true, there was a switch "Vibrant Colors" under Display settings but it was turned on at the one I checked
Google devices have been historically very accurate with the screen colors. Going from LG/Samsung will be noticable.

People tend to get that way these days because of the way televisions are sold with the brightness and color saturation practically maxed out. This results in super unrealistic colors that tend to offset your idea of what "good" is while killing off subtle image details in the process. Samsung seems to like to do the same thing with phones, perhaps based on the same mindset that their TV guys use: Make things flashy.
In the showroom it may boost sales, but when I take my TV home, the first thing I do is tone all of that down to make sure the color balance is more realistic. For example, I want grass to look like grass would be colored, not neon-green. sRGB mode on Google's phones is nice because it does that for you, without needing any color filters and test patterns.

YES. So. Many. Times. This.
I shake my head when I see people show off their new TV's with sharpness at 100 and vivid color profiles with bright colors and cool temp selected. More power to do what u want with your stuff, but it just looks rediculous.
As a photographer using calibrated displays and a Photoshop user, don't make up your mind on Webb posts. And I want a natural and sRGB.
Love the super saturated colors. This is coming from a normal consumer without any "expertise" in anything related to the subject matter. My eyes like it.
I despise the over-saturation Sammy does. This is good news to me.
This is funny because although I was only able to see the the Pixel 2 screen (non XL) I'm positive both will have great displays. I do like Samsung displays however I hate when the over saturation shows the absolutely wrong color. But not too long ago the Samsung S8 & S8+ displays had a red & purple tint on the white screen. And that was actually a very prevalent issue which was fixed by a software update. After seeing the Pixel 2 display I thought it looked good.
I have read that the display on the Pixel 2 XL has a bluish tint when viewed off angle and that the LG V30, which is said to have the same display as the Pixel 2 XL, has screen uniformity issues.
I went to my local Verizon yesterday to play with the phone and see for myself. The bluish tint off angle is absolutely there. It didn't bother me but it might bother some. As far as screen uniformity I didn't see any issues. At least not with the display phone. I tested with light gray and dark gray backgrounds at high and low screen brightness and I used my hands to block out room lighting as best as I could.
Color saturation looked good to me. A bit more saturated than my Nexus 5X I used as a side by side comparison.
The verge panned the v30 display in their review today. This isn't looking good

Have had the Note 20 Ultra from T-Mobile since Wednesday and then phones been be great except for two flaws. One is native gestures still not working 100% smooth with third party launchers - which is okay, I am using FNG anyway, but another is the screen brightness.
Despite being in direct sunlight, the panel doesn't get bright. Samsung claims 1500 nits of brightness, it definitely doesn't get there through either manually sliding the brightness or setting it to auto brightness. Definitely isn't as bright as my OnePlus 8 Pro.
I've annoyingly factory reset the phone to no avail. Anyone else having issues?
Yes, it's not great .... my Note 8 is brighter in normal use.
The panel does get brighter in strong daylight but the maximum manual brightness is poor.

It is some kind of protection bec extra brightness for long time damage Amoled displays so they decided to limit it in normal usage
It's bright but the white point is um, weird.
Reminds me of the Surface Pro IPS panels, always, always, too green!
And the ability to adjust RGB levels has nary an effect!
I want the ability to calibrate the display properly FFS!
I know it's a decent display but gimping the calibration ability makes about as much sense as putting bias ply tires on a Ferrari!

If you read what samsung say about its Dynamic Amoled panels you will understand why the white looks weird , they have implemented a Hardware blue light filter which filters the harmful blue light emissions that is why all new samsung displays show white a llitle yellowish , It might not be the best looking but is is safe for your eyes and renders a more accurate colors.

What's the point of having that?
It's clearly inferior to my professional displays.
Proper calibration and white point is *everything*.
It does NOT look yellowish, it has too much green.
That looks horrible.
After using it for a day I cannot believe how much better my Mac, 11 Pro Max and S20 Ultra looks.
Can you please tell me if the screen isn't bright if adaptive mode is turned off? (120hz)

Compared to the Note 10+ it's significantly brighter even in 120Hz, and I often need to lower it even with the adaptive brightness on.
It's somewhere around 1/5 or 1/6th of the brightness bar.
How is the LCD's black levels? Also at the lowest brightness.

Hi. I got the device today and I'm fairly impressed with the black levels from this LCD display. Even with low brightness.
The panel, at least mine seems pretty homogeneous and viewing angles are good.
Ah, and I'm coming from an amoled screen (Samsung A71).
well thats brilliant and reassuring thanks Patoilo , I ordered mine a day ago and my context is as a movement and cognition impaired (light and sound sensitivity,reduced memory) disabled dude I keep inducing burn in on OLED displays after 1 year to 18 months AND the PWM brightness moderating method plus pentile subpixel arrangement all mess with my vision and comfort when trying to read. I was super excited to see this combination of 120hz, LCD, big battery etc - the physical size is the only draw back but its mitigated by the reliability of both the screen robustness (not going to burn in or discolor over time) and the fact this thing should last a long time even if I had to go to hospital halfway through it charging
Ill report back about the display when the phone arrives especially stuff like how pronounced any ghosting is at 120hz, how nice the 1080p+ clarity is now that im not on Pentile etc
Im very impressed with the display, coming from a oneplus3 oled, this display is so much better.
Colors are much more vibrant, black level is good and the display is massive in size.
Watching movies in 21:9 with the dual speaker is insane.
One think to note, with "dark mode" enabled it changes multiple colors like white to dark grey, yellow to dark orange etc. so dont keep that always enabled.
