Hi,
Whenever my phone dies due to battery drain I lose contact information, texts and application settings and other settings.
It has been happening off late. It was fine some months back.
I am on 2.3.5 and my phone is still under warranty. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Never heard of anything like that before. Anyway try flashing a new firmware 2.3.6. GB and give it a shot.. If the issue still persists, a service Centre is the best option..
Try simple things to minimise battery drain like alway turn off wifi, 2g, 3g. Use it only when its required. Other time turn it off. Flash xxkpq firmware & use UC kernel. Also tweaks & governers will help u alot. Also sync of mail do it manually. Auto sync always take ur battery like hell.

Dude the problem here is the loss of data after (maybe) reboot.. Battery drain is not the issue..
So the best way to check if it is a hardware issue or not is to flash a new firmware.. No mods required...
And she's obviously new here so let's keep it simple.. Flash guides and the links to download the required roms in the stickies section..
I read recently that turning off journaling can cause data corruption/loss. are you running stock, or customized? some customized roms turn off journaling for better performance...
in addition, for better apparent performance, some roms also increase read ahead/write ahead or something like that. if you were doing something when your phone dies (and is unable to shutdown properly because you pushed it to the max), it can die in the middle of reading or writing, and especially in the case of writing, likely will cause data corruption/loss.
so, once again, let us know if you're running stock or custom, and why you insist on killing the battery while using the phone instead of shutting it of at 1% or 2% to prevent this from happening anymore

I will try this today. Do you think I should try a factory reset as well and see if that helps?

But I can't keep preventing my battery to run out. Why should a battery drain erase data? Obviously the problem is worse than just battery draining.

I don't wait for the battery to drain. When my battery is a little less than half at night, I wake up to find my phone turned off with the battery run out. And all of the mentioned data erased.
I have stock rom. Should I just update my fw to 2.3.6 and see?

A likely scenario here, which also occurred to me was that when kept overnight, the phone restarts automatically and gets into a boot loop (stuck at the samsung logo, and reboots over and over) thus draining the battery of whatever charge is left. And then once you switch it back on all personal data is erased, including settings, except installed apps.
What firmware are you using? This is surprisingly a very common issue nowadays, happens to many on GB, I have not heard of this happening on froyo as yet, but you never know! I myself have given in my handset for a motherboard replacement due to this!
So the issue might not be battery drain, just keep it unattended for a while and you will see its behavior! (Or wake up in the middle of the night! )

Well till now all those facing the problem couldn't solve it even with multiple wipes/firmware installs, so best bet is the service center, insist on a MB replacement on the 2nd visit, because the 1st time they will just do a firmware flash.
Make sure you are on Indian firmware DDKP1/KP2 with no trace of root including superuser and CWM.

your issue is not a loss of data due to battery dying, it's due to a hardware malfunction. take it to sammy!
same problem with me.. i heard its from the motherboard and internal memory.. i was using xxkpm then... At night i turn on wifi to update my apps on market.. its good, everything was updated, but tomorrow morning when i woke up i found my phone dead, so i charge it and when i open it, i was surprise to see that its asking me to pick a language again.. and yeah, all my contacts are gone, the messages, and the settings.. I thought its because of some apps that is update.. so i uninstall all my apps and then factory reset. but still same things happen everytime my phone is idle for awhile.. i also tried to flash xxkpq but same thing happens.. i still have warranty but is it ok if i go to samsung center with XXKPQ? or should i flash again to a lower version like 2.2.1??
Im experiencing a huge problem with battery...
First the battery drain is too big to be real 100 to 0 for like an hour of browsing...
What is more is that when the battery gets like 30% the phone sometimes just shuts down like and acts like the battery is fully drained and the only way to turn it back on is to connect it to a charger first and when i turn it on its on 0% battery.
I'm running all stock, no rom, not even unlocked, I sideloaded both 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 updates.
Here is some screenshots, could it be a bad 5.0.1 update?
Have you done a factory reset yet?
What happens if you charge it when its off?
Welcome to the club
It charges normaly, just like I have let the battery die to 0%. Other then that it charges preeeetty fast ... Too much if im not overreacting
Haven't done factory reset....thats the reason for not flashing it, didnt want to lose data..

Well, it could be hardware but best thing to do is rule out.software so best bet would be to factory reset after backing up your data. Maybe even flash back to stock.

I would flash full 5.0.1 if a factory reset doesnt work. If its still the same, then try 4.4.4.

The reason behind not flashing already etc etc is that i dont wanna lose my warranty. That leaves me with factory reset and nothing else for solving it? Should I just copy all my storage to PC or should I use some application for the backup?

You'd need to reset the flag then afterwards. Its all covered in the flashing stock guide in general > sticky roll-up. Not saying you should do it, just letting you know. Though after you factory reset i would recommend you probably just contact the company and let them fix it.
I guess I will have to unlock, root and flash my Nexus to see if this will help.
Can u advise me with a stable and low battery drain ROM and Kernel eventually ? I'll need to seach a full guide on unlocking rooting flashing I guess
If it's new, go and get a replacement. If it's not you may change your battery. It does not look like a wakelock or another issue. It looks like a hardware issue much more.
Actually, I do have the same problem as OP. I'm thinking of going back to 4.4.4.
Facebook app is draining a lot, Disable Service and disable the fitness services within Google Play Service, and disable unneeded syncs.

I had the same problem with mine, I used the nexus root toolkit to get back to 4.4.4 and it fixed my battery issue completely, I'm now at 23hours with 36 percent left. On 5.0 it lasted about 8 hours if I didn't use it, good luck.
Flashed Cyanogenmod 11 latest for hammerhead, problem persist... I'll do some more testing and If I cant get it right I guess I will send it back for repair after reseting the flag...
If anybody has any ideas or same problem, share info
I'm having the exact same problem...
I updated to 5.0 when the OTA was sent out OTA but then sideloaded 5.0.1 two weeks ago.
Since then I've been experiencing the same shut downs where the phone thinks the battery is dead. If I leave the phone off for a minute or two, restart it and then leave it for a few hours, the battery level slowly increases back up to what it actually is.
I'm guessing it's a software issue but I'm losing patience waiting for 5.1 to cure it.
I'm now thinking of downgrading back to 4.4.4 till 5.2 comes out. Very frustrating!
What voltage is actually at when this happens? You guys should track voltagr at full charge, and empty when this happens.
The new baseband / modem firmware from lollipop caused massive drains for me. You may want to flash 4.4 baseband.
So is it me or did the volume decrease with lollipop?
On KitKat i somehow got the feeling that the overall sound volume is much higher, especially while listening to music over the speakers.
Also my batterie life got really worse with lollipop, but i wont judge now since the OTA came in two days ago.
Still, somehow i miss KitKat already and find myself looking for a downgrade. I'm on the Z3.
I would be glad, if you tell me your thoughts on that one.
I just clean flashed 5.0.2 and got a device which has way better batteries now than after an OTA update. Try that.
After clean flashing, my battery life has increased soooooooo much it's insane I actually don't understand how it.can be so good

I've been on stock rom now (updated using pc companion on the same day lollipop came to our devices). My battery life gives me max 4 hours of screen on time with moderate usage.
So my question is, did you just do a simply factory reset through the settings menu or did you flash it as a rom?
I'm just curious as I've lately noticed that by the time my phone goes from 100% to 85% I do only have 35minutes of screen on time. On my lg g2 I could go from 100% to 90% and have 1 hour screen on time...
Guess I should have done a factory reset long time ago... I'm about to root my phone and flash cm12.1 anyway, but wanted to get someone who clean flashed incase I want to go back in future.
@Sindroid Hi my fellow Bergenser. I'm also from Bergen but stuck in Sweden, my wife is Swedish (got caught in the Swedish trap.) How did you clean flash after the OTA? just a standars factory reset? did you wipe the internal storage too? e.g camera pictures and media etc?

No, a factory wipe won´t do justice. That will just wipe your phone clean and the OS will remain the same.
I am talking about Flashing a stock FTF.
You need D6603_23.1.A.0.690_Customized_NCB.ftf
And you need Flashtool to flash it..
Back up what you can that is internally on your phone. IF you have File Commander you just use that to move all stuff from Internal to SD.. Your SD Card will remain unharmed during flashing process but you could remove it during flashing to be on the safe side.

How did you manage to have that screen on time? Are there any tips you can provide us, please?
I noticed a weaker battery life directly after upgrade (by ftf without wiping data) but it went back to normal a couple of days later... I guess just patience is needed.

Never paid too much attention on screen time. I get about 1 1/2 days with normal business use (mostly phone, mail and web) which is pretty good.

Can you provide us what tweaks/apps/modules/configs you are using? Because I've checked many Z3 users and none of them can replicate this on-time screen. We get usually between 5-7h on-time screen with 24h+ battery usage.

Hi ! I've recently bought a S2 Plus (not new) from somebody. All good until I hit "RESET DEFAULT"... Of course, I had to reset the phone to delete all previous data and settings. From that moment, my battery started leaking very fast, even if I'm not using it (standby). At battery stats, it looks like Android is consuming 51% (a lot more than any other app on the phone). What is happening ? I can't imagine what could it be. Please, help me !

Hey guys
At the beginning of my use of the OP the battery was really impressing, I also managed to reach the 7 Screen. The last week the battery has started to disappoint me, I thought at first that maybe the fault was that I was browsing too much on Facebook but i found out that Facebook is not at all causing the sharp drop in screen hours.
Android System and Android OS are my biggest waste of battery and come out in 3 1/2 hours of screen time. What can be done to improve it?
Man that's bad, i one played almost all day Kingdom Rush and world of tanks and my battery was still over 6h screen time. i don't know how that was possible

How it's your screen off/active graphs?
Are you phone rooted? If yes, you can install BetterBatteryStats to see what alarms/wakelocks are waking up the phone when inactive or find the app that are draining battery.

Try to disable bluetooth before restart and see the battery life. Maybe it helps
Hi!
I know that this will be a little bit clunky but i had the same problem (and lagg issues too) when i update from 9.5.8 to 9.5.9. The only solution was reboot on Recovery Mode (you can activate the advance power option from developer settings) and clear/wipe the caches and dalvik.
I dont know in with version of OS are you but with Oxgen Updater (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arjanvlek.oxygenupdater&hl=es) update to 9.5.10 and reset caches.
Hope can i help!
