should I expect problems when upgrading? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

If I upgrade the phone to N with EMUI 5, should I expect to encounter issues and bugs with the phone? I dont want things to stop working or stop working properly

After every system change it is recomended to do factory reset.. usually it helps a lot with some bugs after the upgrade..
That said is not just my experiance
And it is also recomended to do fresh install of apps and not from backups like titanium to also avoid conflicts

Bugs b360-b381
I'll summarize bugs I have got since b360 till b381:
1. The reader (FPR) will stop working as a touchpad - for example to slide photos in the gallery or to pull up the notification bar after unlocking the phone after "a fastphoto" (locked phone->double press the FPR button->take a photo->still locked-> FPR not working but you can fix it by pressing it - a button).
2. Once the flight mode is switched on, battery drain starts as well, maybe coincidence but I've switched on/off wifi.
3. The native email application saves the sent mail 2× to gmail account, other service (a local mail provider) does not do it (I'm not sure here, maybe this is some setting?).
But how to tell it to Honor?
update: 1 person says everything described above is OK in my Honor, another one says I've got the same issues so it is just a warning

JB and sense4+ bugs

So i wanted to see if im the only one who get some of the bugs below:
1) keyboard(any keyboard) falling animation stops in the middle and disappear instead of going all the way down whic is kind of ugly and make it looks like lagging.
2) and the more crucial is this(photo attached) - contacts names in people section randomly getting blank and the only way to know which contact it is, is to enter the contacts edit and see the name there.
couldn't be more annoying!
any other bugs we should know?
just noticed there is a bug thread already. please move this to there, sorry.

Em ya wow to that bug. If you have TWRP or CWM try wiping cache and dalvik.
all stock never touched anything.
Since I updated to Jelly Bean I experience very bad reception. Almost all the time "ermerncy calls only". Factory reset doesn't work. Looking at costom roms atm...
I've got a stupid bug (on stock) when you click power off and the screens black u click power button it shows lock screen then powers of again have to do soft reset to make it boot properly again

i just tried, and it didnt help :\
Which rom are you on?
Maps broken
I have a HTC One S locked to Orange/T-Mobile/EE network which is stock ROM, haven't had the need to mess around with it just yet. It received the OTA update to JellyBean 4.1 on Christmas Day, which installed fine without any problems.
Now I find that regardless of what I do, the maps and navigation crashes within a couple of minutes of use. This part is annoying since it seems to work and then anywhere between 1 minute and 5 minutes it simply stops with a force close message. I did a factory reset to see if this would clear the problem, but it hasn't.
The details of my phone are:
Android Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense Version 4+
Software Number 3.16.401.8
HTC SDK API Level 4.63
Kernel Version 3.4.10
Build Number 3.16.401.8
Maps Version 6.14.2
Would be interested to hear from anyone else who has this problem, or more so from anyone who has it and managed to cure it. Else I will have to look at downloading an alternative ROM, one which has working maps!
There is a thread regarding the google map issue already.
I often have loss signal...any idea?
I've seen a topic already.. but the keyboard, especially in WhatsApp is so horribly slow on JB.. not just the One S, Galaxies etc. have it too.
I'm definitely having signal issues. Anyone else's WiFi taking a long time to automatically connect? On ICS wifi used to connect as soon as the phone was unlocked but now I'm waiting up to a whole minute for it to connect!
no problems with wifi here.
i already said im using all stock never touched device.
very weird

I searched the HTC One S forums for maps crashing and found one which is to do with Cyangenmod ROM as opposed to the stock ROM. I've posted it in here simply because it only started after the JB 4.1.1 update was completed over Xmas. (If I search again for maps crashing, I now get two which is the original thread and this one.)
If you can point me to the thread which deals with this problem, then I would appreciate it greatly, as it is really getting on my nerves. More so since I've removed all updates for Google Maps, they're now back to the stock JB version, and it still crashes.
Cheers
ok, so i just backed up my contacts to my sim card and deleted from phone and google account than i imported from sim and re synced and now the people bug is gone.

com.android.phone crashes when receiving call

This is just to document what I went through a few days ago...
I received my OPO last Monday
I started to setting it up last Tuesday
Everything "apparently" was fine
I can dial out
I can SMS out
I can go out to network and download (wifi and 4g LTE on TMobile)
BUT I didn't test/check any inbound, such as receiving call or SMS (looking back, I shoulda try them)
Then my wife told me I didn't pickup my phone last Thursday (ALWAYS pickup your wife's phone call )
I started to look into it,and found out
com.android.phone will crash whenever there's incoming call
incoming SMS is not even showing up in my SMS app, and my wife's SMS app (iphone 5 on ATT) did not show failed delivery. She has no problem seeing my SMS
I was on
CM11S (XNPH25R)
franco r10 kernel
philz recovery
rooted
xposed framework (no module loaded though)
I called TMo support, and got transferred to tech support
They guy I talked to was very nice, and did everything he could to help me out
Since it's not their phone, there's not a whole lot they can do
At the end, both him and I agreed to try and do a factory reset and see what happen
Son of a gun, it work just fine!
Less invasive Solution
Symptoms:
start the phonebook, try to make a call, will crash after a short while.
Somtimes right during trying to answer a call.
Failing processes:
com.android.phone
android.proces.acore
Situation:
Sony Xperia Z1
Android 4.4.4
I think that this may be applicable to any phone or device running Android
Solution:
- Sync Contacts to Google
- Settings/Apps/All Apps
- select "Contacts"
- Force Stop
(Attention will loose contact settings and data after the next step, backup! You break it you own the pieces.)
- Delete Contacts Data
- Settings/Apps/All Apps
- select Contacts-Store
- Force Stop
- Delete Contacts-Store Data
- Settings/Sync/Google/Menu top right /Sync now
After re-syncing the contacts has finished, the issue was cleared.
Best regards, Euphoric
Diesnt work, at least not with 44s. Had to factory reset the device. Started doing this after I installed a theme....

Google Services not working

My Google Play Store Stopped working + google play Games and also facing syncing problem with gmail and calendar , (no issue with internet connection) even after full reset .
also i am not able to add any other google account.
Nexus 5 Android 5.1.1 + rooted + xposed+ default kernel
and today i did clean cyanogen 12 installation but after adding my account this problem arrive again after some time
Have you tried narrowing down the issue, maybe a fresh install (don't root or install Xposed), add your account, run it for a day or two, or at least longer than you know it takes for the problem to occur. Just to make sure it's not an Xposed issue. I've never had issues just with rooting, but it always helps to eliminate any other possibilities.
I've seen something similar to this, and I never really figured it out. I'm using stock image, just root, but my issue was several google sync would not work, like contacts, calendar, and a few others. I tried removing the account and adding it back, it worked like you state, a few hours maybe, then it would have sync errors again. I re-imaged fresh, and I believe when I initially configured the phone the first time, I added my account when it asked instead of skipping it, like I do occasionally. It's been going strong since, but I still don't know if that was a correct "fix"
cyanogen have a setting to remove root access so i did , but the problem still there. i am 80% sure that this is not a root problem .
so i removed my google account but now i cant add any of my google account with my phone (Error -As shown in last screenshot)
i did a fresh start before so again its specifically related to my that google account (as i think)
possible cause of this problem -
1- Latest Stagefright Patch update by google on my nexus 5 (Problem occurs sometime after update)
2- Freedom app , which is used to activate some of my app . i tried this app 2 or 3 days before .http://onhax.net/freedom-iap-apk/
i found one quick solution
i Removed host file from Etc folder in root directory and now problem gone
One question, do you use or previously used an Ad-block app?
yup is that app cause problem?

Smart Lock bug on S8+ with Oreo 8.0 update.

I don't know where to post this, so I'll start here.
After I took the Oreo 8.0 update on my phone (SM-955U) S8+ in layman's terms..lol, both my wife's phone and mine are not staying unlocked with Smart Lock. We use this feature when we are in our trusted place (Home). It works when it's connected to a trusted device (Car Bluetooth) I wiped my phone and did a factory reset and started from scratch to rule out software or settings. I would have to constantly (many times a day) turn off then back on my trusted place. I sometimes even delete it and re do it. I have gone into my google account and made sure my Home was in my profile. The one thing I did notice is, once in a while, I have gone into settings > apps > Google Search and cleared Cache and Delete All Data, then uninstalled Google update's and restarted my phone. Then it would work for a while, then it wouldn't again.
I'm at a loss as to what is causing this. I'm not sure if it's an OS (firmware) but or something else all together. I don't know if the Google search is a coincidence or its the actual issue.
Anyone else having this similar issue or found the fix?
It has been happening to me. It actually started right before I got the Oreo update.
Interesting, I don't remember if it started before the update or not. I was having an issue updating to begin with. So I was constantly resetting my phone.
Same here. Also started before the Oreo update...around the time of the Feb security patch. Mine works when I get home consistantly until I dont use the phone for a while. At that point I have to use the fingerprint reader or pattern to unlock every time. Very annoying.

Mate 30 Pro Notifications

Does anyone have the same problem as me I have discord, Skype and many other apps but I don’t get the notification for messages and etc!
yes I had the problem also. Got to settings-battery optimization and click on each app you want to get notifications from and select dont allow.
I have tried all of the following even with Huawei Email app:
1. Battery Op.
2. Notifications settings.
3. Even Premissions
And still nothing. I dont really

I had the same problem, reset the device..
Helped me...
i did that too!!!
Resetting helps as well. Huawei has aggressive memory management.
Can you please explain what you mean by 'resetting'?
As in a full factory reset, then side-load say Skype from apkpure, then notifications are all ok? That seems hard to believe.
I have a new P40 Pro, installed Skype (never tinkered with GMS) and notifications do not work.
I have a Chinese Mate 30 Pro 5G and since March no GMS installed (they worked perfectly when I bought the phone in November last year, the seller installed them, but stopped working at some point in March - out of no reason and I haven't been able to get them working properly again since then) - Skype notifications DO NOT work. No matter what. Factory reset doesn't help, battery optimisation disabled doesn't help, keeping it working in the background doesn't help, nothing really helps ... I found out that installing the app from Amazon Appstore (the version there actually looks like Skype Lite) makes the situation a bit better - at least notifications work for some 10-15 minutes after you open the app, but then stop working again even if the app is still running in the background. So forget about being available for a skype call ... you will most probably miss it and get no notifications until you open the app again.
I've tried installing GMS again lately (by several methods), but then even less notifications worked ... And also, since updating to EMUI 10.1.0.126 it's difficult to use the Lzplay, once you get it working, you can't uninstall Google Play Sevices unless you do a factory reset of the phone – so you won't be able to follow the latest instructions for installing the Google services on your phone).
In case you're wondering - without GMS, the situation with notifications for messaging apps on my phone is the following (my use of the messaging apps below is mostly work related):
-Messenger (installed from APK Pure): works 99%, sometimes the notifications for messages are a bit delayed (for a few minutes), but receiving a call always works
-Skype: as described before, but only when installed from Amazon Appstore, the usual Skype app gives no notifications
-Viber (installed from App Gallery): mostly works, sometimes notifications are delayed (up to 1 hour)
-WhatsApp (Installed by direct download link in the App Gallery): the only app that works with no issues at all (I always get all notifications instantly)
-Slack (installed from APK Pure): no notifications at all
-Teams (installed from APK Pure): no notifications at all
-Instagram - messaging (installed from APK Pure): no notifications at all
For emails I use Outlook and I mostly get all notifications instantly or there is a slight delay (a few minutes) – I use it for all my email accounts (Exchange, Gmail, Outlook …).
Honestly, considering how many apps just don't show any notifications, I'm slowly getting to the point of loosing it. A phone worth 1k€ that can not be used as a real smart phone ... It's really a big frustration. I didn't think it would be, but it simply is. Don't get me wrong – I really LOVE Huawei phones, especially the Mate series, but … On the other hand – beside Gmail account (which is not my primary email account but I still use it), I don't use or need (and I never have) any of Google apps or services (I was a Windows Mobile user before my first Android/Huawei experience, so believe me, I never needed any of the Google »****« in my life), but in case Huawei doesn't find a solution for such basic apps that are used widely in the western world, I don't think they will be able to keep us users loyal to their brand.
getting the same problem i have the chinese version of the device so annoying
can you help us ?
thank you.
