Yes, they left out the part where you enable the OEM unlock from Developer options. Probably because it isn't there anymore... First device Sammy removed or "hid " OEM unlock at the U.S. Carriers insistence no doubt. Root will happen for this.

Samsung galaxy s8+ sm-g955u CF-Auto-Root
autoroot.chainfire.eu
SM-G955U
NRD90M.G955USQU1AQD9
CF-Auto-Root is available.
Has anyone with an S8+ actually attempted?
Getting a lot of bad information from people who are intentionally misleading others and do-not own this phone.

nothing for s8+ works ....returning phone to beast bye

Everyone has developer options. He's specifically means the U. S. versions don't have OEM unlock under the developer options

CF-Autoroot is an automatically generated root file for phones with unlocked bootloaders. So it will more than likely never work on an US variant of our devices.

I have been working on trying to get root on a Sprint Galaxy S8+ SM-G955U. I tried the repository in Chainfire and it every time I get Odin version error.

At least on the Sprint S8 there's OEM Unlock available under developer options.
I just toggled it ON.

You may want to try flashing it with the "patched" Odin from here:

Without an unlocked bootloader I doubt it will work, but report back please.

[WIP][DEVS] CyanogenMod for LG G5

Hi all,
I started working on the LG G5 a way back .. and now that we've got the device in stores I guess it's time to work all together to bring it up !
STATUS
- [02/04/2016] All the US Carriers/Sellers locked the bootloaders so NO TWRP possible and consequently NO CM possible
CURRENT GOALS
- Thought, all the Europe variants will be for sure unlocked so we need to prepare the sources for it
- Here is where all the sources are pushed https://github.com/G5Devs
ETA :
- The tree is made
- The vendor is made
- The kernel is made
TODO :
- Clarifying kernel sources
- Add the ramdisk to the device
- Split the g5 to g5-common and all the under variants
This thread is not a thread to release builds, it's about contributing all together into this bringup in order to get the nicest thing out of it when the bootloaders will become unlockable.
I hope we'll can work all together !

It does unlock, but the DM-VERIFY is still presenting a no-go.
Evidently LG is using a custom type of bootloader.

only for that specific device(s) on HTC
HTC has a portal that allows you to unlock bootloader for that specific device (hence the need to copy+paste token to HTC's portal and get the unlock key)
no doubt HTC will void warranty immediately in their system when you input token
LG doesn't have this (yet? i hope)
Yeah, was just a thought. Haven't owned a LG in some time, been on the Samsung wagon. The G5 is on my watch list of devices I might get, I like the design. I'll try to see if I can find something that might be more constructive to the cause. The HTC link was the first thing I could think of that I've dealt with.
I see that LG has release a tool for the G4 and that's device specific and seems to work on the European devices.
Totally willing to contribute monetarily if this will help any developers out. I don't have much else but really want to help get this phone broken open and fixed up good!

How do you test to see if your handset has the DM verify second bootloader lock?
I am hoping to get my UK unbranded unlocked retail H850 unit on Friday, so am happy to test any restrictons, but don't know how to check for this?
If I buy a g5 from best buy would it still have the locked bootloader?

Galaxy s7 930u root

Hello,
Trying to find information about this specific model, This seems to be the most appropriate forum to post questions.
I have the Samsung factory unlocked version 930u. It may be possible to unlock the bootloader using OEM unlock, although I haven't tried yet.
Is there a method to root this device? It's a Snapdragon version, not Exynos. All information I could find about root was about the 930F with Exynos. Before voiding the warranty, I need to get all the info at least.
Thanks.
The same method as all carrier variants. The G930U is the same phone as the variants where the only difference is not being controlled by the carrier, otherwise same firmware essentially.
Ok, so I should be able to flash Chainfire 930f firmware on it?

No, you can't flash Exynos firmware. Only US firmwares. You flash the Engineer kernel which is rooted. The, currently, only root method for US variants
Thanks for pointing that out.
So, first unlock the bootloader through oem unlock, then flash this file. Do you have a link to it, make sure I get the right one?
Thank you very much for your help!

The bootloader is still locked. The OEM Unlock in developer options is simply a toggle to allow the bootloader to be unlocked, which it can't currently.

It says G930A but it's the same method across all US variants.

I have a problem when trying to root this device samsung S7 930U. I tried 3 versions of Odin, 3 usb cables ( samsung original) and all the USB ports in my PC, the one in the front and 4 in the back. I always get 2 results. Or it stays "SetUp Connection" forever...or just FAIL! Auth. I don't know what else to try.
Im trying to root the device just only to change the IMEI number, since I can't make it work in my country in Southamerica.
Already check in other posts and other forums...no results yet. But I won't give up
Any ideas?
Thanks guys in advance! :good:

The Verizon Note 5's bootloader is not unlockable. The OEM unlock switch you refer to under Developer Options simply allows the bootloader to be unlocked IF there is an unlock available for a particular device.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader of the Verizon Note 5.

It's actually not a SIM unlock. It enables bootloader unlock if the phone is eligible for bootloader unlock. If the phone is not eligible for bootloader unlock, and the Verizon Note 5 is not, it is a useless switch. You can turn it on but it does nothing at all.

I got his point , in new samsung carrier phones if you flashed a modified kernel or rom you will break the trust chain the phone will get into a bootloop but that does not mean that you can't recover it using smart switch

Selling my Verizon Note 5 today due to battery life issues I can't resolve without root. Fortunately, I have Straight Talk, so almost any CDMA or GSM phone will work. I love the Note 5... and per willmyphonework.net, I should be able to easily jump to a variety of other Note 5 variations that will work... Too bad Verizon...
Other option was a Mophie Juice Pack, but they're not only bulky and slippery, but $100 too... (sigh)

OK I was just reading through the vzw note 5 posts to try and root this thing, and had to comment on this. +1 in agreement to this speaking from personal experience in rooting/modifying devices found here, I've "bricked" plenty of devices but it's all been fixable and yes it's been my fault either missing a step or being impatient and not letting the tools finish the job.
I'm not a developer but if there's any way I can help the cause let me know. I'd like to see root for this device too.

No OEM Unlock Option?

Hey guys, long time XDA member, just recently getting back into modding again.
I've become aware of this relatively new feature under the DEV options, "OEM unlock," which is supposedly required before rooting the phone. However, mine doesn't seem to have that option in the settings. I've searched around for why it didn't appear, and have tried a few things including wiping it from the bootloader, which was a massive blunder as it still didn't appear. Is it safe to go about rooting it without having this option available, or am I in deep waters here? My model is an SM-G955U for reference. Thanks for the help!

Yes you can and it is very easy. Go to Settings, information, softwareinformation, tap buildnumber 10 times. Then go back to settings and scroll to developeroptions (bottom). The OEM unlock is the 5th switch.
After that bootloader will be availible so you can root
Best regards
S8+ sm-g955w is a Snapdragon therefore there is no OEM unlock in the Developer Options. Would be great if you can give an informed advice next time.

I can confirm that this feature does not exist on a T-mobile S8 Plus and that T-Mobile technical support blames Samsung and Samsung blames T-Mobile. We all know that it is T-Mobile that turns this option off and delivers the ROM to devices. This is done strictly for monetary reasons, locking in advertising revenue and subsidies and customer forced loyalty. In fact, this is extremely anti-consumer anti-competitive and a completely despicable practice.
If you purchased a four-door vehicle and the back two doors were welded shut by the dealership and were told you could still access the back seats through the front seat, there would be complete outrage about such practices. However since most users are not developers like we are, and do not understand the implications behind this, such as security - in that you're not able to run a proper firewall on a device which is not rooted, there would be outrage on a congressional level.
Sorry for the rant, but this practice has to end. It is a loathsome practice whose benefit only serves to increase and secure revenue streams for those involved in controlling such features. They can say what they wish about the technical issues which may prevent this but it all boils down to money, money, money.

It's carrier unlocked not bootloader unlocked. Still not root and most likely won't ever get root+twrp for it.

Did last year's snapdragon S7 ever get root? I'm not used to this because all previous Galaxy phones were international, but my carrier is selling the U1 model this time around and not "F" varients... Im not holding my breathe for custom recovery/roms bit would be nice to use titanium backup and ad away...

The S7 got what we called ENGBOOT root. Which was not really full functioning root. It required you to flash a Samsung created engineering kernel, that is purposely unstable, but is designed to help Samsung repair shops fix corrupt devices.
With some tweaking root was achieved, but the bootloader stayed locked. And the performance was so degraded by the engineering kernel MOST people went back to stock and never used root.
Sadly rooting and ROMing most phones is going away. Especially now that Google is providing an easy way for developers to turn off access to an app if the user is rooted. Right now even if you have root you can't use Netflix, Samsung Pay, Android Pay, among many others.
If you want root still I'd look at a 1+ or the Essential phone or the international model if this phone. Otherwise you are probably out of luck.

Since you have been so helpful at crushing my root dreams lol j/k.. Is there a way to get what I'm looking for i.e.
Ad-less youtube
Ad-away
And maybe a way to freeze/uninstall apps
All without being rooted?
Its been a long time since I had a stock phone and the freaking advertisements have gone wild... Thanks I appreciate it

Yes.
I have been using AdClear for a while now and it works great including in YouTube. The development team has an xda thread that has the downloads and a bunch of great info. Just search xda.
I use BK Package Disabler to freeze apps. It lets you freeze individual processes in apps as well which is great for blocking only certain features of apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler
For making a back to restore I actually like Samsung's Smart Switch. Works great to backup your phone to a computer.
Also in Developer settings you can manually address your DPI, and over in the S8 International threads there is a list of about 40+ fonts that can be installed.

Galaxy S7 edge
I have an s8 and s8+ unlocked on TMobile. Want to use on Optus in Australia and then when I return on AT&T. Optus uses band 28 which T-Mobile doesn't . In another thread someone suggeted flashing G950U1 XAA, is this the "plus" equivalent? Assume steps to flash same? Also is this the download: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955U1/XAA/download/G955U1UEU1AQE3/171775/

So AT&T firmware has advantage over this? Will it matter that it has AT&T firmware using on OPTUS Australia?

One of the phones I may try to sell when over there, though the buyer will have to get his own USB adapter

Yeah it has voice over LTE. And a few other things. Still gets great battery life and you can disable any att features you don't want.

Awesome. Will flash when I get a chance. Hopefully no issues on OPTUS.
This may seem like a stupid question, and I am assuming the answer is no, but does flashing an official firmware lock it to that carrier ?
