Here you go! You're welcome to contact me if you want! I've shrank the files twice to make it as small as possible for you and they're based on firmware versions OGJ and BPF2. If there's anything else you'd like let me know!

Sorry forgot about the bootloader yes that option is available and currently I'm using Lollipop because unfortunately MM kills the battery way to fast but you're welcome to do whichever is easier for you.

The Verizon Note 5's bootloader is not unlockable. The OEM unlock switch you refer to under Developer Options simply allows the bootloader to be unlocked IF there is an unlock available for a particular device.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader of the Verizon Note 5.

It's actually not a SIM unlock. It enables bootloader unlock if the phone is eligible for bootloader unlock. If the phone is not eligible for bootloader unlock, and the Verizon Note 5 is not, it is a useless switch. You can turn it on but it does nothing at all.

I got his point , in new samsung carrier phones if you flashed a modified kernel or rom you will break the trust chain the phone will get into a bootloop but that does not mean that you can't recover it using smart switch

No the phone hasn't permanently bricked you apparently haven't even tried yourself and your just repeating crap you've read from somewhere! It's this type of stuff that causes people to not even try! I've done a lot of stuff to this phone causing it to soft brick but permanent brick? Yeah, no.

Selling my Verizon Note 5 today due to battery life issues I can't resolve without root. Fortunately, I have Straight Talk, so almost any CDMA or GSM phone will work. I love the Note 5... and per willmyphonework.net, I should be able to easily jump to a variety of other Note 5 variations that will work... Too bad Verizon...
Other option was a Mophie Juice Pack, but they're not only bulky and slippery, but $100 too... (sigh)

OK I was just reading through the vzw note 5 posts to try and root this thing, and had to comment on this. +1 in agreement to this speaking from personal experience in rooting/modifying devices found here, I've "bricked" plenty of devices but it's all been fixable and yes it's been my fault either missing a step or being impatient and not letting the tools finish the job.
I'm not a developer but if there's any way I can help the cause let me know. I'd like to see root for this device too.

[Locked Bootloader] Using Rowhammer / Drammer To Gain Root on 6.0

PROJECT ABANDONED.
None of my test units are vulnerable, and no other dev has shown interest.
Good news though, hope is not lost- there is a big vuln unrelated to Drammer that may be the key to CID 11 getting root.
I am working on this new project actively, as I have already gotten root access on my test units.
THIS IS A R&D THREAD!! Please only contribute / wait patiently.
This aims to get CID 11 (locked bootloader) users rooted on 6.x ROMs.
*Note: VUSec has decided against releasing their implementation of the exploit (a test utility was provided instead).
This may change in the future, but until then we will attempt our own implementation based on their work.
If you would like to see if your device would be vulnerable you can use VUSec's app here: https://vvdveen.com/drammer/drammer.apk

I hate to rain on the parade, hauckk. But i don't see where you're able to help for the CID 11 devices...? unfortunately, you're unable to help as to this thread was made to aim to get the CID 11 users rooted on 6.x ROM's. Being that you have the CID 15 device and that you're rooted with the bootloader unlocked, i don't see how you're going to help with the CID 11 users. Especially from "hard brick" because of you not owning a CID 11 device.
Again, I'm for smokerbond to continue with his OP and not questioning him one bit :good:. It's how someone with the CID 15 device will be fit in when you're able to do what others cannot...?

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I know about the exploit and what it's about....not 'flaming' you at all, it was somewhat how you first defined it and also with you having the 15 chip i don't see much of how it may help as to it's vulnerable opposed to the 11. Speaking of which, there was no mention of the CID's of the 2 devices used in the test. Could one of them have been a 15 CID and the other the 11 CID??? That may be something one's need to request for more information on the devices used. May help with the OP's R&D of this topic.....
Great point I hadn't thought about that the different cids 15 or 11 in the test

Happy to see some users are still fighting for control over the VZW S5 with eMMC 11 chips. That being said, anyone have luck getting root on 6.0* ROMs? I just flashed BS_FREE_MM_PF4 via Safestrap on my locked bootloader, which is great to have stripped down / bloatware free(ish); however, there are just some root features I can't live without.
Obviously, it's definitely time to upgrade to an s7 or perhaps wait for the Note 8... any device suggestions?

So I just went through the links at the beginning of this thread, and just realized that I cannot do this. I do understand what you're trying to do, but I'm not the person to test this out. While I got the concept, I'm not a programmer, or someone who knows code etc... Sorry that I couldn't be of any help, but hopefully someone who's a lot smarter than me will be willing to test.

Just got my pixel, root? tether?

Hey all,
Just got my new pixel. I'm on sprint, and want my hotspot to work for my kiddos. Is this doable? Do I need to root? If so, can someone provide the links or guides on what I need to do? I'd rather root than do a custom rom. I wanna stay as close to stock as possible.
Coming from my nexus 5, and loved having my hotspot. Although it was on a custom rom, etc.
Thanks in advance!

HotSpot is very doable... You will need root, but don't need a custom ROM to work. You could use a mod or custom kernel. I'm on VZW and have no problems using MOD's etc.

Up to you... The SkipSoft tool is nice because it automates steps necessary...Including the above link linked. Personally I manually do it, as I'm not running TWRP quite yet. It's still in its infancy and want the ability to sideload OTA's if I see fit.
SkipSoft tool can revert you back to the stock recovery, so you can still do what I've suggested. You just have to go through a few more steps. If this is your first time and you're not comfortable yet...Then use SkipSoft

I'm good with manually doing it, just wasnt sure which link I should be using. first or second. Guessing the second link. Then its a matter of using adb, no? This way dont have to deal with twrp and still get root, and get OTA updates.
Also, non of this requires me to unlock the bootloader right?
Wait I thought the hotspot mod didn't work on 7.1.1? I saw lots of talk saying it was broken and people had to remove the SIM and toggle hotspot to get it on now
How to bypass wifi hotspot on Verizon pixel XL running 7.1.1
Have a question I hope someone can help me out.
I am looking to be able to use wifi tether as FoxFi is now blocked. I am running a Verizon pixel XL 128gb running 7.1.1 withe the boatloader locked. I need to see if this version of Android is rootable and if there is away to bypass the wifi hotspot check? Any help would be much appreciated. Everything I have read has-been for version 7.1 and not 7.1.1.

2 things...Yes you have to have an unlocked bootloader. And you cannot take the December update before unlocking the bootloader if you're not on a Google phone. Is. Verizon, T-Mobile, etc 7.1.1 does not have a bootloader exploit.
I have root on 7.1.1 with tether mod and a few other goodies. But I unlocked the bootloader prior to updates
**EDIT** I stand corrected on the models. Doesn't have to be a "google" phone, but I do know Verizon and T-Mobile have restrictions for DePixel8

That can't be true because I took the update as soon as my phone powered up for the first time. I did manage to unlock the bootloader last night, and root...so I am good.

If you have Verizon then you had to be on 7.1 when you unlocked. You can't unlock once on 7.1.1. if the update was in the middle of installing you got extremely lucky that you unlocked before it installed

Correct, the short answer is no, but to expound slightly as to why and put you on the right track.
The bootloader needs to be unlocked on the Verizon variant (like the one I have) to gain root. However, the latest security update (December) patches for the exploit that we used to unlock the bootloader (DePixel8. ) So if you didn't unlock your bootloader prior to receiving the update, there are no current ways to unlock. Thus leaving ROOT a no go for now. You'll have to wait for the next bootlocker exploit.

I stand corrected on the models then. I have the VZW variant and knew there were limitations. I would have to go back and look, but maybe Verizon and T-mobile are the only ones...of course there may be others. Either way, yes, you have to have the bootloader unlocked prior. Happy Modding!

There is no Sprint variant. There is a Google variant and a Verizon variant and that's it. If you have the Google model the bootloader can be unlocked any time. If you have a Verizon model you can ONLY unlock bootloader when it's on 7.1. if you update to 7.1.1 before unlocking you will not be able to unlock.

Havnt tested it yet. I know theres that one and isnt there one where you just edit the build.prop? Or maybe that one doesnt work compared to this other one? I'm still researching the hotspot and reading so I dont mux this up the first time around.

Seem like I remember reading that this method has a couple of drawbacks, including losing it after updates. The systemless TetherMod I linked is "supposed" to withstand OTA's updates, which is important to me at this point. I installed it on 7.1, sideloaded the OTA to 7.11, rerooted and was off and running again.

Yea I learned that the hard way. I couldn't take the 7.1.1 ota until I flashed back to stock. But I have read if you just change the build prop back you can. I think I'm going to try that other method. I guess it is there forever and can withstand the ota's . I think anyways. Haven't tested it yet.

Yes, they left out the part where you enable the OEM unlock from Developer options. Probably because it isn't there anymore... First device Sammy removed or "hid " OEM unlock at the U.S. Carriers insistence no doubt. Root will happen for this.
Samsung galaxy s8+ sm-g955u CF-Auto-Root
autoroot.chainfire.eu
SM-G955U
NRD90M.G955USQU1AQD9
CF-Auto-Root is available.
Has anyone with an S8+ actually attempted?
Getting a lot of bad information from people who are intentionally misleading others and do-not own this phone.
nothing for s8+ works ....returning phone to beast bye

Everyone has developer options. He's specifically means the U. S. versions don't have OEM unlock under the developer options

CF-Autoroot is an automatically generated root file for phones with unlocked bootloaders. So it will more than likely never work on an US variant of our devices.

At least on the Sprint S8 there's OEM Unlock available under developer options.
I just toggled it ON.

You may want to try flashing it with the "patched" Odin from here:

Without an unlocked bootloader I doubt it will work, but report back please.

No OEM Unlock Option?

Hey guys, long time XDA member, just recently getting back into modding again.
I've become aware of this relatively new feature under the DEV options, "OEM unlock," which is supposedly required before rooting the phone. However, mine doesn't seem to have that option in the settings. I've searched around for why it didn't appear, and have tried a few things including wiping it from the bootloader, which was a massive blunder as it still didn't appear. Is it safe to go about rooting it without having this option available, or am I in deep waters here? My model is an SM-G955U for reference. Thanks for the help!

There is no way to unlock the bootloader or to root the Snapdragon SM-G955U or SM-G950U as of now.
ahh, of course the US version isn't ready for it yet. thanks for clearing things up!
And might not be for a while therefore a bounty thread was created.
Hopefully the snapdragon users will get some joy soon. :good:

Yes you can and it is very easy. Go to Settings, information, softwareinformation, tap buildnumber 10 times. Then go back to settings and scroll to developeroptions (bottom). The OEM unlock is the 5th switch.
After that bootloader will be availible so you can root
Best regards
S8+ sm-g955w is a Snapdragon therefore there is no OEM unlock in the Developer Options. Would be great if you can give an informed advice next time.

You are speaking about YOUR phone. Not all G955U's (like mine, from Xfinity) have that option in the developer menu.

I can confirm that this feature does not exist on a T-mobile S8 Plus and that T-Mobile technical support blames Samsung and Samsung blames T-Mobile. We all know that it is T-Mobile that turns this option off and delivers the ROM to devices. This is done strictly for monetary reasons, locking in advertising revenue and subsidies and customer forced loyalty. In fact, this is extremely anti-consumer anti-competitive and a completely despicable practice.
If you purchased a four-door vehicle and the back two doors were welded shut by the dealership and were told you could still access the back seats through the front seat, there would be complete outrage about such practices. However since most users are not developers like we are, and do not understand the implications behind this, such as security - in that you're not able to run a proper firewall on a device which is not rooted, there would be outrage on a congressional level.
Sorry for the rant, but this practice has to end. It is a loathsome practice whose benefit only serves to increase and secure revenue streams for those involved in controlling such features. They can say what they wish about the technical issues which may prevent this but it all boils down to money, money, money.

Visible Wireless version

Hello,
Does anyone know if the the bootloader is unlocked on the phone sold by Visible Wireless? It would be fun to be able to run a custom rom.

Moto G7 power is a very BIG phone.

The bootloader is not unlocked... Nor does using the developer option to unlock it work.
For Motorola phones you have to use fastboot to get your own unlock information. Then use an interface on the Lenovo/Motorola website to get an unlock code... Which you have to use in fastboot to unlock the phone.
You sign away your warranty in the process, and also permanently change the immediate power on screen to a semi lengthy warning. Like you're going broken tech mode... Gotta deal with that when hacking around with Moto... Accept that and they're actually totally cool with it otherwise.
I picked them because they've been pretty noncompliant to network specificity.
Anywho... As for now... I am unaware of any custom ROMs that are compatible with Visible's network. I've tried all the major custom rim flavors... Nothing worked.
It wasn't on the g7 power, but people have had luck getting custom ROMs going on visible. Takes an update to a network interface driver... Modem driver I mean. Something is updated. Probably a factor in visible supporting so few phones in the first place.
Trickle down library support will probably set in in a couple years.
Also Visible isn't a start up or small company... Visible is a part of Verizon. The same primary paywall... Buy a new phone and get discounted service. They targeted iPhone users first... It's just Verizon but I do approve of the change.
Visible is retentive on what phones work. I wonder if throwing on a ROM on an unlocked retus while using Visible will screw things up.
