So I setup my s8+ and setup my Gmail on the native email client. I selected as items arrive because I like having up to date email. When I go to delete a message on the S8+ it deletes, but shows a "deleted" sign and next to it "undo". I have since changed the setting to not ask to confirm, it still does it though. Now when I delete an email on the phone, it comes right back after a few seconds, I tested this with my Gmail opened on the website and it doesn't show deleted, however if I simply read them on the phone or mark them as read, it does correlate with Gmail and marks them as read. Testing the reverse, if I delete a message on Gmail, it does delete it automatically on the phone. What could be the problem? I've tried changing the web settings to auto expunge set to "off" and when a message is marked as deleted from the last IMAP folder move to the trash (used to be archive)
Maybe a bit more condensed. Basically the stock email app (s8+) has deleted emails keep popping back up. I have gmail on there with the "auto, as items arrive" setting. Marking as read does sync however., any ideas? Thank you!
My Gmail app has been doing this for a long time while using a secondary e-mail account within Gmail (My hotmail account).
I've never had a problem deleting Gmail e-mails though.
Just to clarify, this is for your GMAIL account correct?
Yeah, I am using the native Samsung Email client on the Galaxy s8+. When setting up my @gmail.com account., everything comes in quickly, marking as read works fine, the issue is when I delete an email, it comes back as soon as I refresh.
I have the same problem. And I think the reason is that your mail provider has the IMAP roth path folder named "INBOX"
But the samsung mail app has it as "Inbox"
This is why it works with Gmail and not other providers.
It can handle the incoming to place in correct folder. But when you delete it sends a request to the IMAP server to delete mail xxx placed in folder Inbox (Not INBOX)
And because there are no folder called Inbox on the IMAP server, nothing is removed.
Older samsungs/Android had both the option to "erase on server" and set "IMAP Root path folder" but the latest version don't
I have several accounts setup in the gmail app. Only one does this, my exchange email account for work. And it's not new and it's not related to the phone. This has been happening for years on multiple android versions and multiple devices when using the gmail client.
With third-party customers everything is in order and even with native problems did not notice.
"Unfortunately the stock android email app has the IMAP root folder names hard-coded in the app. They cannot be changed by user. The app expects the folders to be named
at the IMAP server exactly like this
Inbox
Outbox
Drafts
Sent
Junk
If IMAP-server uses different names the synchronization will not work properly"
So as I mentioned before. If Imap folder is named Inbox and not INBOX there might be problem. And it cant be fixed in other way than changing to a mail app that allows for manually setting the IMAP root folder name to INBOX
Me, too.

On my S8 phone I have 3 accounts (Gmail and TELUS) plus my Exchange account for work - and that's the only one that has this problem (Junk Folders messages reappear). Thank you for your post. Don't HAVE to have my work account on my phone so will remove it and hope that resolves this pesky issue.

Is anyone familiar with problems with Gmail? (gmail account under messaging)
Last week I added my gmail account to WM6 Messaging, which worked fine.
Today I wanted to do a clean install and removed my google account from messaging. But when adding my gmail account again, it does not show any emails anymore in my gmail inbox folder.
It is logging on and checking the email headers, when clicking on send/receive. I also am able to send email from my universal
I have the "WM6PRO_Business_AKU_0.7" from Laurentius&Beast installed (WM6PROBUSSINESSVC_V3)
Is there a way to "really" clean my universal (ie clean cache, folders, etc) I cannot find the folders where this emails are stored
If you are able to receive new e-mail messages on your device, your "problem" has to do with your Gmail account settings. Send a test message to yourself from another address and see if you can receive it. If you do receive it and you are certain that you want to download again all of your previous messages, login to your Gmail account, go to Settings -> Forwarding and POP and select "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)".
Most likely that should get you back your inbox (unless you had opted to delete downloaded messages after a certain period).

When changing gmail settings to POP for all mail, it starts checking, then it receives a few old messages, which also shows up in my inbox. But when it finish send/receive, the messages disappear again. It also does not receive/show new messages.
Is there a way to clear messaging cache/setting completely (i have tried deleting my gmail account several times)
OK, I created a new Gmail account and did some tests. These are my findings:
1) In Gmail's POP settings if you set it to keep a copy of the downloaded message in your inbox, your messages never get deleted on the WM6 mail client.
2) If you set it to archive downloaded messages, all mail that has been moved from inbox to the archives gets deleted on the Universal.
3) If you set the mail client to download only a part of the message (say 2K), messages that are above that limit don't get archived (probably because they are never completely downloaded).
4) Any messages that were below the specified size to be downloaded, stayed in my device's inbox, even after they were archived in Gmail.
I suppose that if you want to be able to see all your messages on your Universal you should move them from the archives to your Gmail's inbox, set Gmail to keep downloaded messages in its inbox and re-enable the POP setting for all mail.
Try that and tell us how it goes.
I just tried it with a other gmail account, which works perfectly on my universal.
Also with a pop client on my pc (on same network) receives messages and shows them.
Messages that were download were not archived (gmail is setup to keep an email copy in the inbox). They were still visible in gmail webmail. I'f tried several settings, but no improvement on my universal :-(
When clicking on the send/receive button, it displays "checking message [number]/362" So it looks to me the device thinks it already has the messages in his inbox. But the device also does also not see new messages.
Just a thought:
In my test account I had about 30 e-mails, varying in size from 1KB to 12MB. The first time I pressed the "Send/Receive" button, "checking message 1/30" was displayed for quite some time until it started downloading messages. Same thing when I deleted some messages and added some new ones: "checking message 8/17" was displayed for about two minutes before it actually downloaded something.
Perhaps the number and size of e-mail messages you have is overwhelming to the device and it needs a lot of time to process them?

Hi there,
I had the same "problem" some time back.
Through google I found that all mail that has been downloaded ones by a mobile or maybe even by pop method, this mail will NEVER again be send when trying to download, even when your device is renamed etc. or even another device.
I did find one "sollution"
When you add recent before your email accountname, like "recent:[email protected]" you will ALWAYS receive the last 30days of history of emails.
(also handy, if you use more than one mobile device and or pop mail program, because you will always receive your mail on both !)
greetings,
Wout

Ok, thanks I will try that. (When setting up the gmail account again, it automaticcaly says the "recent" accountname. Untill now I just removed the it
Just tried it, and it works. Thanks all for your help!
Seems kind of stupid. Even AOL has finally got around to updating their archaic AIM software for Windows Mobile.
one can use the normal outlook on windows mobile to send and recieve mails from gmails though
I do that. One thing I can't accomplish is deleting from the Gmail server by deleting off my device.
you should be able to by "moving" the email to the gmail trash. If you just hit the delete soft key, it just archives it
Are you saying in pocket outlook moving emails to the gmail deleted folder or in the java app?
Neither does server deletion for me.
It works for me.
I "Move" the email into the "Gmail" - "Trash" folder and it goes into Gmail Trash.
Just checked it. It's not in my All Mail anymore
Here's what i use
GMail IMAP connector. Not only does it synchronise deletions it synchronises read/unread as well. All you need to do is enable your GMail account for IMAP, not POP3.
Interesting idea...does that install directly on to your device or your desktop?
Bump for an old thread but I don't like the IMAP method.
Is there any word on getting the gmail app to work? JVM?
I want to be able to search 4GB of mail and find my stared messages quickly like I used to on my Samsung Blade (A900)
Hello
I like the email client that comes with android (the one for accessing secondary email accounts). It does seem to have a major limitation though, you can not move mail around to different folders (e.g. lets say an important message ended up in my spam folder by accident, I can not see any way to move that message to the inbox)
If this is in fact possible could someone please tell me how to do it, but if it is not (which from what I can tell this is the case) can someone recommend an email app that supports this function.
Thank You
***UPDATE***
Yes I am using the vanilla/AOSP email app being that I am running cm6
The email account that I am connecting to is my AOL account. I am not 100% certain but I thought AOL uses IMAP.
So I guess the new questions are 1) does AOL use IMAP and 2)does the AOSP email app allow you to move emails between folders
If what you are accessing is a POP3 account, then I believe no email client permits you do do this (as this sounds like a sync function only found in IMAP accounts).
What I found to work best (and easiest) is to have my alternate email accounts foward all my mail to my gmail account, and have my gmail account tag each email with the name of the incoming account (hotmail emails are taged hotmail, etc.).
This lets me recieve all my email with one single app (Gmail), provides me with push notifications for every email, permits me to sync emails effortlessly, an so on.

I'd think that any email client can do it, but I personally use K9 Mail and love it, and it certainly does this.
As the above poster says, if you're using POP this might not be possible. IMAP it certainly is. You should not being using POP anyway.
Don't know about the vanilla android one but I know the HTC Email program will let you move between folders.
if i go into emails it downloads them no problem, next time i go into emails it deletes the ones already there, yet i don't receive these emails on my PC either .Why is it deleting them and is there any way to stop it
Are you using the GMail client or the other one ("Email")?
If the latter, are you using POP/IMAP, or Exchange? If it's not Exchange, I'd suggest you embrace your GMail account - you can configure it to collect email from other accounts - and use the GMail app. This has the extra advantages that you have a central contacts list, and can view your emails on any computer with a browser too.
use the other email and its a pop account ,so are you saying use g mail and set up my pop account on there, already have my g mail account set up on the email appr
There is most likely a setting to remove the mail off the server when you pull it into the app, thus deleting it off your regular mail server, and why you aren't seeing it on your pc. I'd poke around the settings a bunch and see what is up.

I set up a few POP accounts in the appropriate client, but I think the only 'delete/remove from server' option was only when emails were deleted locally. I'm not sure about the default behavior - whether it is 'download and remove from server' or just 'download a copy and leave on server'.
checking in the client settings, it's under Incoming Settings, and the options are only
"Delete email from server -"
and the two options are 'When I delete from Inbox' or 'never'.
That tells me the client should NOT be removing/deleting emails from the server except possibly when you delete a mail from the inbox. IIRC, the default setting was 'never'.
Combat, do you perhaps have a client running on a computer somewhere that may be periodically checking and removing the mail from the server? This is a common thing with email servers - someone leaves an email program running on a computer which is set to download and remove mail from the server... then the mail doesn't show up on their phone.
Incoming setting were set as never delete mail from server so unchecked it and rechecked it again ill see what happens
sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish

There's probably a setting in the Email app for leaving mail on the server, but personally I get my GMail account to pick up mail for all my POP accounts.
You can configure GMail (through the web interface) so that you can send emails out as if from your other accounts too.
For example, if someone emails me at [email protected] then it gets picked up by my Gmail account. If I then hit reply, GMail will use [email protected] as the 'from' address. If I reply to an email sent to my gmail.com address, the reply will come from my gmail.com address.
So you don't have to mess around with 2 different apps, you have all your email in one place, accessible from anywhere, with a single contacts list. Win/Win.
Stock mail app with a POP account. Incoming server settings are set NEVER on "Delete email from server"
Mail app does not delete the messages when they are downloaded from the server, but once a message is deleted on the phone, on the next refresh of the POP account, those messages are deleted on the server. The messages stay in the trash folder for the POP Account on the device.
This is the first time I've ever had this behavior with a POP account with any mail client (mobile or desktop) and I don't like it. Is there a way to disable this? It's basically requiring me to keep read messages on the device for enough time that I can guarantee my other devices have downloaded them, and I like to keep that POP account cleaned out on the device. It's rather annoying not being able to immediately delete those messages. This is a behavior I expect from IMAP, not POP. And no, I can't switch to IMAP as it's not offered with this account and I don't want to forward it elsewhere or process it through GMail.
Also, I can't pull down to refresh when in combined inbox view. I have 2 Exchange accounts and 1 POP account configured. Is this normal? First time I'm using a Nexus device with Google's e-mail app so wondering if pre-KitKat devices behave this way.
