A real amateur!! - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to the crew at XDA!!!
Thought I'd register and see if I can get a lil help/guidance from anyone.
I have the Oneplus one (recently discovered it is called bacon) , the 64gb model.
My story goes a lil something like this.........
I was playing around with my phone at the weekend and noticed it had TWRP, does this mean my phones been rooted? In my mind, TWRP menu would be bios on a pc.
Anyway, so I was looking around bios and somehow managed to delete everything off my phone, no apps and no contacts and I should of left this WELL alone but it was too late, I'd lost my phone :crying:
I have been trying to learn about flashing/dirty flash, md5's, ROMs, gapps, etc. I managed to get an OS on the phone but no apps. The gapps I tried to flash(install) just froze, thought it'd take time, I gave it time and so no joy. So I am wondering can someone guide me to the version I had on the phone before or tell me a better OS and corresponding gapps that can customize what google apps I can put on without slides, sheets, newsstand, stuff like that please? And I guess all I have has gone but I still have the files on my phone for example, CSR 2, Facebook, etc. Is there anyway of getting the apps I once had, as well as my contacts?
Please go easy on me, I'm totally new to all this and only learning because I had no choice but I am finding it quite interesting. I never knew there's so many OS options. Heard of rooting but the fear of bricking my phone kept me clear but I want my apps n stuff back, if poss.
Sorry for the looooong winded essay! but at least you know what I've done to lose all my stuff.
Your Patience is greatly appreciated!! :good:

Hello Azhar_Farhy,
I do apologise for such a vacant response from me, busy days
Thank you for your reply I must say also.
I had tried as per your instructions and lineage OS did install but came up with flash errors, did write them down as:
Patching system image unconditionally
E: unknown command (log)
E: unknown command (log) in red letters
I also copied the md5sum, wrote it in txt in windows. Copied it into same place as OS flash but didn't find it??
So as for the OS goes, it's been unable to a point. It loads ok, the gestures are mixed up (I noticed 'V' brought up camera and 'O' brought up the torch), not that I use them anyhow. But using the browser, some pages work and alot don't so that's my issue with the OS.
Now with the gapps,
I had issues flashing this altogether. This came up with an error code 70?
Error as follows:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip''/sdcard/Download/open_gapps-arm-7.1-stock-201705010zip
Error flashing zip *followed by the same error path as above??
So as you might of guessed, I'm still without any apps and forced to use a tired s3 atm but may consider changing it up once it got the hang of it on the phone in question.
And in other news......, have a my contacts!!!! So that was a close call!! ??
I'll look forward to anyone's interested in the matter ☺.

The two errors because of twrp not at latest version, but isn't a problem the flash isn't compromised. The gapps didn't flash because stock package is too big, use nano instead and download others from PlayStore. So wipe once again dalvik, system, data and cache then install lineageos + gapps and reboot, complete the first startup procedure with your google account and you will have your contacts back.

Gapps error 70 happens because you don't have enough space in root. You are trying to flash gapps-mini or higher. Flash micro and then download the other Google apps you need from the store.

Hi Lisko,
I chose the stock gapps package because I thought it would be the package that was on before I cleaned it off?
And I'm not able to get any apps at all, not even Google play is on the phone I tried to go to browser and download but it says it's already installed so yeah, a bit confused with that one mate lol ?
I'll give nano a try. Will this help the browser issue as well? Most browser windows crash and close???
Thanks for the response ?

His seanwlk,
I'm not sure i follow when you say 'enough space in root'? Could you break it down in layman's terms please ??
I was flashing stock gapps which occurred the error, which I thought stock would of been appropriate for the phone. But I do want to shave some apps off, you say to flash gapps mini. Lisko says nano. Is there alot of difference between the two, other than being lighter on space?
Thank you for your response ??

Mini is still too big, here is the packet comparison https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Package-Comparison
The only difference between these is basically the amount of gapps that it contains.
Flash micro and download the rest you need from play store.
With space in root I mean this:

Good afternoon all.
Really sorry for being a month later to get back to you all but I've been snowed under the past month with work and just haven't had time to get back to you! Please accept my apologies
In regards to the lineage is and gapps, the OS does work but it's browser crashes on every page which is mostly annoying and so I tethered my phone to my tablet which works but I just discovered that chrome works without issues, so yeah, I got gapps and fully operational ☺. Found all my numbers and apps so happy days!!!!
I will ask though, is there another OS I could use as there's so e things I can't seem to remove like the shortcuts on lock screen? Either I've got torch or camera open when I get it out of my pocket, OS browser crashes. There was something else but I can't remember....
And even though the phone is operational, I had the same errors when flashing both the OS and gapps. Saying errors on both but work okay?
I'm not sure where to find "root storage" to know if it has enough space, if someone could explain that, would be really helpful please.
Is there any other OS platforms that are a bit more functional than lineage please? Or anything cool to stick on and be different from most phones? ??
Just want to thank you to all those that have been really helpful!!! ???

If you're looking for customization I recommend Resurrection Remix.
link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-resurrection-remix-t3507102
You had better flash nano gapps because of the size limit of system partition.
You can install other google apps such as chrome from play store.

You can backup your device via TWRP

Hello people of XDA!
I'm back ??.
I hope all is well with everyone here?
Might as well cut to the chase.
Can someone guide me to the original Marshmallow os for the opportunity please?
I've had the resurrection remix and I thought it was cool as you can modify absolutely anything, BUT, at the cost of apps crashing, phone not lighting up when someone calls and has been very frustrating to say the least. And I never got round (till now) to mention it.
I think the phone is on its way out as the battery drains like crazy and for some reason, whilst it's not in use, it still remains warm and battery still goes, even whilst at work and is in my coat. So I'm thinking of trying to save the last bit of the phone before it completely goes to data heaven.
Can anyone help? Pretty please? ???*
Thank you guys in advance!!

Many thanks C4SCA for that link but I'm afraid I don't have a pc at hand. All I used was the phone to flash the files but with that link, flashing is not possible.
Is there another way to sort this dilemma....pretty please?
Thanks again.

A real amateur....strikes again! Technology isn't my friend...
Hi guys,
This just proves how much of an amateur i am. Spent the best part of about 35 mins writing my essay in 'quick reply', only for it to expire....and i was typing on my little Hudl2 keyboard....
So now i'm starting ALL over again, this time with otg cable and wireless keyboard. Let's see if i remember it all...... eh?
So in conclusion to your reply

, i have only just found out how to tether my phone to pc for internet. 21 days later to your reply but i whole heartedly appreciate your help.
With the reply last night, not having a pc at hand, i wasn't at home but i had done some looking around online and found that the marshmallow os is no longer to be updated, so, therefore, i looked around for a new & stable os for the oneplus 'bacon' & came across the pie os from watching Max Lee's (high on android channel) on Youtube. Claiming it's stable and battery life is good (that was my attraction to this).
So.....first things first (and this was all done without a pc, last night).
I backed up my phone to my hdd using the otg cable and backed up via twrp recovery as advised before by
psxda97
Click to collapse
I then searched for the pie os and found it on XDA site. But as i watched further on Max Lee's channel, i needed to update the twrp recovery ( mine was v2.8.0? i think?). Found twrp version 3.2.3 img file. downloaded it via phone, swtiched to recovery and wiped phone but reinstalled Ressurection Remix (as i backed up to hdd but needed an os to operate) then flashed latest twrp.
Instead of rebooting phone from recovery (don't know why i did this??) but i switched off the phone and back on. Knowing all apps and contacts were gone, i wanted to see if twrp had updated it'self. So i switched off the phone again and back to recovery, only to see that it would not load recovery at all......? It just froze with the oneplus logo (not even with 'powered by Android' at the bottom).
It would switch off by holding down the power button, would go to fastboot, would power back up but never into recovery.
So then today get's better...........!!!!!
I watched more about adb & fastboot on various channels on youtube, online and guides via xda and thought this is my only option to get it back open. So i went home and tried to sort this mess out by:
1, opening development options on phone & enable debuggin
2,download adb driver & fastboot from Max Lee's site
3,unzipped and loaded them into my pc
4,reconnected phone to pc to activate the debuggin message on phone screen( was none?)
This didn't work as my pc said there wasn't a driver for the adb (error code 28).
I updated my pc, even via windows update to restart updates, as some had failed. Pc all up to date.
In device manager, tried manual search for driver path (to universal adb file), no luck. Then tried to find online, still, no luck as pc said to find vendor/website host? Most search for driver came up with the same Universal adb download.
Tried to then fix the code 28 by installing intels adb driver and other adb driver's and still no joy.
But the thing i found strange was in Programs (uninstall), both Universal adb & fastboot were there. just can't find the link between them to the phone?
So i'm very frustrated by technology so no need to shout at me for doing silly things.....But i guess that's how we learn to fix things i guess?
If anyone who has read this and willing to help a fool out, i sincerely appreciate this! :victory: PLEASE?
Without fastboot (code 28)
without twrp recovery
Basic Ressurection os
Without my contacts & apps & life stuff.
Not able to backup from hdd
Stuck............
FYI.
PC is Intel i3, running windows 7 32 bit. Should that help anyone with my issue.
Yours sincerely,
My-man-G

Have you go into fastboot mode? Turn off your phone, then boot using power+vol up.

1. Download files HERE
2. Extract 'Android flash' anywhere to your desktop
3. Open the folder within called 'USB VCOM Driver' and chose the folder then file that is your operating system (the .inf) and paste it to your desktop
4. Pull the battery out of your phone and connect the phone to you computer whilst holding the volume up button
5. Open device manager. You should see your phone (it re-appeared every 5 seconds for me). Right click on your phone and press update driver, then browse manually for the .inf file you put on your desktop. Once you've done that disconnect your phone
6. Open 'Android flash' and open Flash_tool and select all the files to make it look like the picture below
7. Press download, then plug in your phone whilst pressing volume up button
8. Done! You now have CWM and have rooted your phone! There are also some other apps that are added too
If you are having issues with your IMEI code read this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30534835&postcount=32
There's also a issue with external sd cards which is currently being worked on. (phone can't write to sd card. if you attempt, phone reports sd card as damaged and sd card will need to be re-formatted)
Big thanks to yiminghung, he helped me figure out how to do it.
If I've made any errors in this please tell me I will fix asap, and if anyone has any updates/ROMs, please message me and I'll post them here.
Looks Good!

Hi all. I am a new registered. My name is Filippo and I'm Italian (sorry for my English googltraslate).
In a few days I will come to me x710d. I wanted to ask you questions.
1) What improvements does the root of the phone? Have to wait at the root with the update to Android 4.1 bj?
2) Before you root, I have to make a backup / image of the system for use in case I have a problem? If it is, how should I do it?
3) This root change the size of the internal memory or I'll do it later? In the second case, how can I swap the memory card with the internal one?
The last question is that there is risk in doing these operations? You advise me to do to its?
Excuse my inexperience and thank you all in advance.
Thank you so much for posting this. The Flash tool is quite confusing to use. Your instructions really helped.

i've just got this model too
great work
i've just want to know how to root it
Success or Failure
I have tried many ways\suggestions to root my X710D and this is the only one I have not yet tried.
Before I do try this procedure It would be helpful if people that have done this on the X710D could report their success or failure.
I would like to know this because I do not know enough and do not want the get into more trouble with the device.
Thanks for sharing your experiences....
I successfully rooted my x710d using the steps given. Before I rooted my phone, I updated it to the latest 4.0.9 (latest firmware is in another forum read here).
This root also comes with the custom recovery (probably taken from HTC because there is an HTC boot screen logo). However, I encountered three main problems after the I successfully executed everything.
First, my IMEI got erased (solved this using ZOPO). (read here there is an explanation how to put your IMEI's back. )
Second, external Sd-card gets no write permissions and also it errors damaged sd-card from time to time (still finding ways to solve this).
Third; Since, I live in Japan, I am still finding ways how to enable MMS on this thing through sofbank.
for the good side;
Rooted phone is awesome.
This phone is quite fast for its price especially with the new firmware.
Sofbank APN settings where automatically there already (I dunno if this was because of ICS or X710d firmware just came in with these settings). Everything else is working very well. Camera, Bluetooth, GPS, WIFI, Radio, etc....
GreatPharaoh Thanks for such a clear and detailed post, this is what makes XDADevelopers such a great community.
Your reply is just what I needed to hear, me being new to this platform.
I purchased one of these as a development machine with the intention of using it as my phone also, but I had been highlighted that some sellers just are not in a position to support the products they sell. We also order two more from another seller to edge our bets on delivery times, but when we discovered some issues and the second seller also demonstrated that they have poor after sales support when managed to cancel these additional two X710D (with an insulting response from this seller).
I my case I asked very specific questions about the product and got nothing but positive replies before purchase, in addition I needed the device to have a working compass and magnetic sensor which also received a "Yes" but once we confirmed payment communication with the delivery and questions dried up. Once delivered, we found that while the X710D does have a Compass and Magnetic sensor they are not implemented.
Now we are concerned about the IMEI bug and these seller does not want to know about it.
So, while we accepted some risk in purchasing a Chinese phone at reasonable price, we really are concerned about this model and did not anticipate the amount of risk.
Now being a software developer (not Android or Linux) I had the approach the we can fix anything, but at this time in a new OS world it has proven to be again high risk and we can not afford to brick this device. So we have decided to return it for a refund.
I will continue to monitor these posts, because I am keen to see if things get resolved and to learn from the experiences of others. It is great to see many members with far greater skills than mine helping each other.
I have also had great hand-holding from ColonelZap through some of out attempts to resolve these issues, so a huge thanks to him.
Again thanks GreatPharaoh for a great post and I am sure that it will help others looking at the X710D and maybe they will find a solution to your remaining issues.

I successfully roThamy x710d using the steps given.

The X710D is a copy of the HTC Evo 4g LTE which will explain the boot logo.
Thank you for mentioning the sd card issue, i bought a rather expensive 32gb class 10 card to find it didnt work in my phone. Its very difficult to get it to work and when it does work my phone cant write to it. If you find a fix ill update the maim post.
Ive noticed lots of people mentioning issues with their imei codes. I havent come across this issue but there is a fix at post 3. Ill update the main post with it later.
Im posting from my phone sp sorry for typing errors. Whats th best keyboard for this phone? Im currently usibg swype but as you can see its.pretty bad. The defaultkeyboard it even more difficult to type.on

Lost IMEI on x710D
Is this issue of losing IMEI only related to the X710D or is this a common problem with Chinese Android phones?
Once again, deepest Thanks to Jaw2Floor for posting the steps.
@Technica; yup, I couldn't agree with you more about these sellers. Seems like these phones where probably manufactured in someones old garage with one or two developers who couldn't do much english. And they would just send em to these vendors for retail. These sellers, However, are so smart with marketing, they would flood youtube and google with fake reviews (although most of em are just unboxings) and lead us with just curiosities. This is probably why they are so good at selling but very bad in support. Long story short, we are only paying for the hardware here.
For the Imei case: I wonder why everyone is not having this problem..?. Maybe this is also hardware related. This was the first problem I faced right after my first ever Factory Default Reset on the phone. I was so terrified that moment, I thought I bricked or fried the modem.
The Sd-card issue is still there: "My temporary fix is reformat card in PC and recopy your media. Do this every time you get the damaged sd-card error."
I can access my card with read permissions only. My media gallery and other media apps can see the card and the contents. However, as soon as I start to write the card (e.g. making new folder or deleting a file from any file explorer app) the "Damaged sd-card error" will start to appear and you wont be able to get rid of this until you take the card out, format it in your PC, recopy all your media, then mount it again in your x710d. This is what ive been doin for the past couple of days to enjoy music in this phone.
The Headphone Jack is also too deep. If you compare side by side the stock headphone/mic with any other regular headphone, this one came in with a much longer jack. I was able to fix this problem by widening the headphone hole on the phone's back casing and also splicing an mm of rubber on my regular headphone jack.
The stock Email-app are having problems setting up with Yahoo's mail servers. So, im using K-9 mail for now.
As for now, I am enjoying this phone. I get a lot of eye's whenever I take this out of my pocket in Tokyo trains. Its not a note! Its the money-saver version.

[Q] Exchange the whole UI stack on Android

Hi
I am new to hacking android. I have built linux distros in the past, and have worked with Linux for 15 years,
I have just rooted a ZTE V965. It doesn't come pre-installed with Play store, and has all sorts of ZTE-specific Chinese apps. It has a good baseband circuit, a good screen, reasonable camera and I think is a great value phone, apart from the awful UI.
It is an android phone, although heavily customised. It has an MTK6589 processor coupled with 4Gb ROM and 512Mb RAM.
I have other phones which operate a much more "Vanilla" android. For example, the Guophone 9105 which also uses an MTK6589. This has a troubling tendency to reboot every random interval. Approx 6 times a week.
I have had success in the past running Linux systems built for much earlier kernels on later kernels. This suggests the ABI (application binary interface) for the Linux kernel changes rather slowly.
I am wondering how well the userland apps are separated from the kernel and drivers on Android.
Specifically, is it feasible to dump all the UI stuff from one phone onto another then change the init to launch the other UI?
Would this risk bricking the phone, or would the shell commands and ADB infrastructure still likely operate?
I guess I should change the bootloader to one that supports fastboot first, right? Is ther a how-to on achieveing this from the root shell?
Thanks for any thoughts
Nick.

Hi Nick, I have the same phone. I'm also very new to android, last phone was iOS and before that windows. I managed to root the V965 using Vroot. I also managed to install SuperSU and CWM. However, the CWM is not fully functional, I can only do a factory reset, not install any packages or roms. Probably the phone has a locked bootloader. I can't check, because the USB driver with the phone doesnt support fastboot.
I really need to get google play working in this phone, read a lot of stuff, tried many things, but I havent succeeded yet. Please let me know if you make any progress.
In China they are flashing this phone, found some ROMs even, but I am not sure how they manage and google translate isn't much help there.

Hmmm my V965 is having some issues now
After a factory reset, the setup wizard keeps crashing. Even after another resest. So I can't get in the phone anymore.
Any chance you can send me the USB drivers that are on the phone? My phone isnt deteceted anymore, so I can't access the drivers, which I want to reinstall. And of course they are not on the ZTE website.

Fastboot and ADB appear to be standard protocols, at least on my Ubuntu, which don't need special drivers. However, it does appear that the stock boot loaader on the v965 does fail to incorporate the fastboot option.
If you remove the battery, replace it then turn on holding the volume down, you will get a menu, but fastboot is not there.
I don't know for a fact, but I do suspect that if you have access to the running android system as root, then you could in principle change any of the internal flash data. Therefore, in principle, I guess you could replace the boot loader or anything else in the running android system. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong, or confirm if I am right.
The feature set of this phone seems to be the same as the feature set of my Guophone. MTK6589, dual SIM, etc. So this image may be a good place to start if considering a transplant.
If you have ROMs, then perhaps it is possible to flash the ROM from a root terminal. I'm thinking add the uncompressed ROM to the Micro SD card, then using the dd command, block copy it to the appropriate image area on the internal ROM, reboot, reset to factory defaults.
If anyone more experienced than me with the nuts and bolts of Android can confirm or deny this will work, or where it should be put, please let me know.
An important factor is that the NAND is not locked on the ZTE V965. So if you have a root shell on the phone, you can issue the following command:
mount -o remount,rw /[email protected] /system/
Once you have done this, you will have read/write access to the system partition.
The only thing I then need to know is what should I avoid changing that may break the ADB bridge/root console?
And is all the UI stuff kept together, if so, where?
Shuffle it around a bit, make a new ROM
Thanks for the driver!
Unfortuntely it doesn't help
I found out the culprit, I tried to install gapps (google apps package) to the system app folder. I thought these changes would be reversed with a factory reset, but they are not. Setupwizard.apk keeps crashing and is preventing me from accessing my phone, so I must find a way to remove it from the system app folder. However, since this error occurred, I am not able to contact the phone in any way from the PC. Adb toolkit does not detect it, even when I reinstalled your driver. It's quite puzzling, I dont understand why in recovery mode I cannot connect adb-toolkit anymore.
Got my V965 working again, but it was a lot of hassle with shell access. Still not fully functional, no drives detected when i connect to USB, which is quite annoying, but not more than that. If you ever make any progress with google apps or flashing, please keep me informed, that would make this phone much more useable. I'll also keep hacking away at it, but without a bootloader unlock (I still think this is the problem), I don't think it will be possible.
I'm convinced it's possible to flash the phone, it seems they do it a lot in China.
I found a website with a couple of custom ROMs specific for the V965:
http://www.romjd.com/Rom/Detail/17086
And what I suspect is a rooting & flashing tool. Rooting works, I haven't figured out flashing yet.
http://dl.vmall.com/c0xa12brvo
I've also tried flashing from the settings - update menu in the phone, but it never finds the ROM (update.zip)
I did find another problem, I can't be reached on my phone, it always goes to voicemail. Same SIM in another phone works fine. No idea what's causing this.

Hi
I might be able to help you with the problem.
I have a mint, unused ZTE v965. I have used MTK Droid root and tools to extract a backup of the entire new phone. It is currently uploading to www dot nickhill dot co dot uk forward slash ZTE-V965_new_backup.zip
You should be able to write this back to your phone using flashtool.exe.
I don't know for sure if this will work, so entirely at your own risk! Just trying to help. If unsure, ask around.
I am new to this forum, so please remember to click the thanks button if you find anything I have done helpful!
Meanwhile, the MTK droid root and tools has a function to remove much of the chinese stuff (once the system has been installed) and there is always the cyanogenmod gapps package. This may be worth investigating.

Thanks for the ROM, i'll give it a go. I will try to install it using the update option in the settings, that seems the safest.
Be careful with gapps. setupwizard.apk + factory reset = a lot of problems (if you install in system app folder)

Firstly, I'm glad it's working for you.
Secondly, which tools did you use? Did you unpack the zip, open flashtools, select the scatter file then program the phone, or did you use some other method?
Which clean ROM did you then install, and how did you install it?
Did you then use MobileUncle to install CWM then use the cyanogenmod 10.1 gapps, or did you do something different?
It is useful to remember that MTKdroidtools has a useful function to remove chinese stuff. I think if more people contributed to the list of Chinese files that are safe to remove, that would be blade.
A detailed step-by-step guide might be helpful for anyone else with the same problem. One of the general problems I find is that there are plenty of guides around referring to this program, or that program, but few are detailed enough for someone who doesn't already know about those programs to use.
I pretty much bricked a Lenovo A766 yesterday, and it took several hours to learn about the tools to eventually unbrick it.
I would have rather spent my time understanding what is really going on, rather than spending my time learning vaguely what tool achieves what end result. If I understood more about the Android system, and built that knowledge on my understanding of Linux, I reckon I could achieve much more.
One thing I notice is that tablets and smartphones are actually replacing desktops and laptops. February this year, windows machines were down 7% YOY. I use Ubuntu for my main computer. Using these tools on Windows led me to significant frustration! This has led me to understand why there is a move. Maybe the tools provided for windows need to eventually move to android. We could then potentially use USB OTG to service other android devices. MTKdroidtools and flashtools runnng as a host on a separate Android system would be cool.

Did you give it a try yet? Another user did and google apps are working for him, so thats 2 for 2.
Are you still on your original ROM? If so, I have a question for you. Do you get notification badges on your icons, for instance, when you have a missed call, is there a red box with a 1 on the phone icon? Also, do your contacts get ID-ed when they call you? I have some problems with that, caused by the country code prefix. I am still running that ROM I downlaoded from the Chinese forum, but if your ROM doent have these issues, I will switch back ASAP.

Where are configuration settings stored accross factory resets?
I have come to the (perhaps erroneous) conclusion that the user interface and what the user will experience is governed primarily from:
the APKs in
/system/app/
/system/vendor/operator/app/
and the configuration files pertaining to the installed apps, which is located at:
/data/user/0/
I guess that when the android device is factory reset, the /data partition is completely cleared, right?
Is there a set of standard configurations which are unpacked from somewhere into /data/user/0/ after a factory reset, or is it normal for all configurations to be stored in their respective APKs?

GPS Not Working
Hello and thank you in advance...
I followed the directions in the first post the best I can and I am not able to get the GPS working. I am pretty new to all this so the chances are I am making a pretty basic mistake. I am using TWRP. I have a backup of my original OS that I am using. I have cleared all memory (not the sdcard) and restored the original OS and the GPS works set in device only mode. For some reason I cannot get the FasterFix to work on that OS it just opens a black screen and makes the device run very slowly. I confirm that GPS is working by launching Google maps and Waze and all is well.
I then flash the ROM (which is FANTASTIC by the way) and confirm that the location is set for GPS only and then when I launch Maps and Waze, GPS doesn't get a fix. I can launch FasterFix, but it just lets me select a server then site there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
dp

I re-installed the GPE from Scratch after I turned the location setting to device only and voila.
Quick question about the heads up apk. Devices to opt out if that in the install process but is it the notifications popup thing similar to android L's? If so is it possible to sideload from the downloaded zip? I'm keywording for heads up don't see nothing though.
On another note I love this ROM to death, great work. I was hesitant to try goe but gosh darn it I fell back in love with stock android. Great job!

Hello everyone, I have a problem.
I downloaded the ROM and put it on my SD Card then installed it. But after the installation, my HTC don't start I have the screen with the bubbles animation who keeps playing. .wma and potentially .m4a playback
I was running the stock sense rom before switching to the gpe edition. While on the sense rom I was able to listen to .wma and .m4a files in Google play music (these files are local to my device, I'm not playing them through my Google play account). Now on the gpe rom I can't listen to .wma files. I'm unsure on .m4a.
Solutions online that I have found either mention using a different music app or adding your music to your Google play account and download them through the app that way.
I'd rather do neither. I would like to continue using the Google play app and don't want to add my songs to my account because I wish to maintain my songs manually on my phone. Does anyone know of any way to add the support to android or have a zip to flash to add it?

Problem: Installing [ROM][10/30/14]4.4.4]Google Play Edition (As L as can be without the real thing)
But for the life of me don't understand these instructions. It's like a step is missing or something. Do I need another bootloader? How do I go from step 2 to 3? And step 3 to 4? I'm sorry for the newbie question. I tried searching "install" and "wipe" in this thread and was overwhelmed with other responses.
1. Download.
2. Put on SDCard.
3. Wipe Data if coming from different ROM.
4. Install.
5. Reboot.
6. ??
7. Profit.
Figure it out.
1. Install and run Sunshine.
2. Install TWRP
3. Boot TWRP and install zip from sdcard.
Thanks all.
I can't get into recovery mode cuz the bootanimation screen won't let me in
hi! I tried flashing this ROM but after flashing it with Xposed framework, it's on a bootloop. I tried getting into recovery but it won't let me in because it just restarts on the boot animation. What to do? Thanks!
Has anyone used the screen cast in the latest version of this rom? When I activate it my Chromecast isn't listed on the devices list.

Multirom + Skydragon's Lollipop Rom
Can I add Digitalhigh's Lollipop Rom as a Secondary ROM or do I need to flash is as the Primary ROM?
EDIT: I have seen 2 posts in the main Dev thread that they have added Skydragon as a secondary ROM but are having a couple issues. I will try again... The First time I tried it hung at the splash screen. I assumed boot loop so went and reinstalled using the "no wipe" option in aroma and still a no go. If someone has successfully added this as a Secondary ROM please chime in. Obviously I am only on my 3rd post here so can't post in main thread. Also I do have the 4.4.4 Firmware installed. Thanks
The google drive says that too many people have downloaded the file in the past 24 hours. Can anyone rehost the file?
Ok I have to download it on my computer for some reason my it won't let me visit the link on my phone. Thanks.

Updating firmware to 4.4.4 but still running 4.4.2 sense.
1.Would updating my phone with this process erase or delete anything in my phone?
2. Im running 4.4.2 sense in my phone, would I have any compatibility issues running this version of sense once I update everything to the 4.4.4 firmware, except for my rom?
1.Download this: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655049353
2.Rename to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on the root of your external SD
3.Reboot and run HBOOT, it will detect the zip and upgrade
4.After the install is finished, flash the lollipop rom, do not change any options
5.After the ROM has been flashed, make sure to rename the zip or remove it from your SD so that HBOOT does not attempt to upgrade after every reboot

Loving this ROM but I'm having some problems with it. First, SU is having trouble sticking and is constantly asking for perms after I've granted it. Also, I still can't figure out how to get write permissions. I tried fix permissions in recovery (bootloop) and I tried doing some terminal emulator commands that was in the ROM thread but still nothing. Oh and when I try to download some apps from the Playstore, I get a 505 installation error. I did run a Titanium Backup restore.

[Q] Lost functions after deleting bloatware from rooted Sensation 4G

Hi all, I have a rooted HTC Sensation 4G, which still has T-Mo provided ICS 4.0.3 and I assume Sense 3.6. I never put any other ROMs in, not sure how, just wanted root for stuff like tethering, call recording, etc. The phone has been getting more and more slow as time goes on, and has gotten to the point lately I have nothing left to lose. When making a call, the Contacts lists stays up a good 60 seconds or so before the screen comes up where t is actually dialing for you, or if I manually put a phone number in, it just hangs there just as long before the phone takes over to actually make the call. And do just about anything else, when getting out of what your were doing, I get the white HTC screen, then loading the screen with the time and temp which takes a good 30 seconds. Using the browser often just cuts me off and reverts to the home screen.
I thought finally getting rid of the bloatware may help, got rid of NOVA, Lookout, a lot of wallpapers and widgets I don't use, something called CS and a couple others I looked up online which says is OK to delete, as well as Facebook, Youtube, TV apps, etc.
After I was done, first thing I noticed, no time and temp. display. I used an app called NoBloat and checked "backup and delete" on all I wanted to get rid of. I started trying to install from NoBloat's back-up folder, and even though says installing, I could tell they weren't when I looked for the installations. I found the NoBloat folder on my SD card, and tried the .apk's from there, and the majority would say "Can't install" or something similar. I then wanted to take a screenshot of something, and that function is gone.
I would like to do a reset to start from scratch without losing root. I found out the Senastion is a tough one to root and I paid someone to do it and it took 2 days before I could pick it up. Is there a way to reset without losing root since I still have stock 4.0.3 in it? Thanks much.
do you have a custom recovery installed?
Hi, if you mean a custom ROM, no. But if any of these will help, I have BusyBox Free, NoBloat, ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox Lite, Root Browser Lite, Root Checker, Super SU, SuperUser, SuperUser Whitelist, Terminal Emulator, and Titanium Backup installed. I never backed anything up with Titanium BU. Was one of those things I was going to lean to use, but didn't yet. I assume I need to install a custom ROM to get total functionality back without losing root, would be nice to get Kit Kat on this (or is this phone too old to do much with?)
I did manage to install "Sense flip clock & weather" from Google Play which broght back time and temp., and also Screenshot Ultimate which seems to work, but not as easy to use as the native app. A bunch of other screenshot apps seemed not to work at all, so now I can basically get by the way it is now, but still need to get the 60 second dialing lag fixed which is still there, so I'm assuming a fresh ROM install. Thankfully my Wifi Tether app still works. Thanks.

not a custom rom
a custom recovery such as 4ext ,cwm ,TWRP
if you want to use a custom rom you must have a custom recovery installed
by the way all custom roms come pre-rooted
so don't worry about root(it is the easiest part)
can you post your bootloader details?
Hi rzr86, here is the screen I got, I didn't know if/how to proceed any further. I also noticed I have ClockWorkMod installed if that helps, I had the phone rooted around August of 2013 if that helps, so I think all the apps to do with rooting have not been updated, Thanks again.

i suggest to change your recovery to 4ext(since you are on S-ON 4ext has smartflash feature which flashes the boot.img for you while flashing a new rom)
take here the latest version of 4ext recovery
http://www.4shared.com/zip/WnSyLWMaba/4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1006_RC3_.html
extract the recovery.img and flash it via fastboot command
the command is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
if you stay with cwm recovery you will have to flash the boot.img manually while flashing a new rom
Hi rzr86, thanks agin, I will do this later tonight when expecting no phone calls. So I would delete the clockwork app, and put the recovery.img from the zip file into my SD card, and tap that, or do I go into the bootloader menu again and tap FASTBOOT and put in the command? Any suggestions on what a good ROM for me would be? I assume the 4EXT Touch Recovery automatically backs up what I have now, or prompts me to? Thanks again.

no don't put the recovery.img in your sdcard
connect your device in your pc in fastboot usb mode
extract the recovery.img from the zip and place it in your adb/fastboot folder on your pc
on that folder open a command window and type the command
don't worry it will overwrite the cwm recovery
AFAIK 4ext restores backups made by cwm because 4ext is based on cwm
about rom you can try vipers 5.3.0 (jelly bean with sense)
Thanks once more rzr86, I think I have enough info to handle it from here, and I'll look up the vipers 5.3.0. I know a lot of people say Sense is worthless and a memory hog, but I'm used to it now, and I'm sure with the new ROM some of that memory will be freed up from bloatware. I'll try the new recovery app later tonight, and I assume I can wait another day to put in the viper ROM if needed. Guess I should back my SD card up, even though I assume none of this touches the SD card. Does the SIM card need to be in, as I have an old Dash I can put the SIM in for now till I'm done. Thanks much again.

Not getting too far, give up for tonight. Used "Minimal ADB and Flashboot" app, stays on "waiting for device". I tried modifying the name as recovery in the file name twice. I tried command from the folder I unzipped the recovery.img to, as well as trying to copy recovery.img to the Minimal program folder and try from there. I read I don't need the whole huge ADB download for what I'm doing on another site. I used this to get Minimal:

don't use any program
just open a command window in that folder where you have adb/fastboot files
edit: by the way did you select fastboot when you connected the device to pc?(from the bootloader screen)
I used the Fastboot under settings, I'll try the Fastboot by pressing Vol down and Power, wasn't sure which to use, thanks again, and will do without launching a program later in today. I should have known better to try the Fastboot screen if the other didn't work.
Hi rzr86, just tried again, powered up phone using vol down and power, have bootloader screen, selected Fastboot. Also gives other options like Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, and Power Down. If I hit power, says Hboot, then checks something real fast something about SD card and no image?. and the prompt is on Fastboot again, and it does say "Fastboot USB", and I can hear the sound on the PC that the USB is connected. I tried from the original adb-fastboot folder I made and also tried unzipping into a new folder as seen in the pic, still getting "fastboot not recognized, Thanks again.
...".
PS I noticed under Recovery Options says "install from SD card" or something to that effect, would this help? (I just rebooted my phone into normal mode), maybe I should try the other way?

actually the zip isn't a flashable one
so you can't use that option
try this way
download and install 4ext updater app(link in my signature)
open the app and select to install 4ext recovery touch
it will do the job for you

Success! Thank you! I downloaded and installed RC2, hope that's good, as I feel more comfortable with that vs. RC3 still in testing stage. I will take a night of rest since it's Saturday night here and feel like doing something other than phones the rest of the night, LOL. I assume I'm good to go with putting viper530 in, will try on my own tomorrow night, I assume done in a similar way. Funny last couple of days, haven't been getting as long as a delay making calls usually, sometimes go thru right away instead of lagging for often near a full minute, but regardless I think I should go ahead with a new ROM. I assume viper530 compatible with T-Mobile USA. Thanks much again, rzr86!

OK, I think I did the backup right. I just chose the 4EXT app, it booted into recovery screen, I found Backup from Recovery and backup, chose Backup, then went back to Advanced and chose all 4 from there, I think they were system, boot, data, and cache. Rebooted, saved my whole SD card to my PC via the USB "use as disk drive" option. On the backup screen, the word "nandroid" was nowhere to be found (as some other screenshots showed using CWM), just said 4EXT Recovery something, pic attached. I assume I did right. Does 4EXT store the backup in the ClockWorkMod folder on the SD card? Seems that way to me, as now folders showing a bunch of .tar files under the "backup" folder, and the system, boot, cache, and data folders under the "Advanced" folder, and I don't see much in the 4EXT folder. I also backed up what I could using Titanium backup the other day.
Next I went into your signature and clicked the viper 530 link, and all I see on the resulting page is viper 521. Is there a link you have to 530, or should I use 521? I assume I use 4EXT to flash the new ROM, but from the SD card, thanks again, guess almost there.

nandroid is the backup you made
and there is no need to make an advanced(advanced backups specific partitions of your rom)
just go backup/restore-> backup and you are done(it backups everything)
and yes the backup is located to the cwm folder of your sdcard
there are links for 5.3.0 in the rom thread but if you can't find them take it from here

Thoughts about the BLU Life One X2/X2 Mini & getting root.

So, I think that it's a good time to start another thread about the One X2. I own an X2 Mini & am really liking it.
The first thing I can say is to BACKUP your install several times until you get root. MAKE SURE to include your boot.img as part of the backup.
1. Going thru unlocking the bootloader (easy), Installing TWRP (moderate) & Rooting (very frustrating) was an interesting experience. Unlocking the bootloader was by far the easiest I have ever done on any phone. Just enable developer options & tic the switch....That being said---the rest of the process was a PITA.
2. Installing TWRP was easy/moderate--having to do it twice & finding that the tool I used installed an early version that put everything upside-down was "interesting" but not really too difficult (I'm a linux guy, so a trip to the terminal & ADB fixed that without too much trouble).
3. Then came the Magisk install--that took a couple of days & quite a bit of help from forum members to get "sort-of" ironed out. There is protection on the boot/kernel that takes a bit of work to get in the right order to get root. With the Stock ROM you need to either run the AutoRoot script from BLOX2.com ( http://blox2.com/how-to-root-the-blu-life-one-x2/ ) or if you are terminal-savvy there are manual instructions also. I'm NOT a Windows guy, but tried the auto route first......That in retrospect was not the best way for the X2 Mini---the version of TWRP that it installs is early & upside-down so controls do not work. I got past that & found thru trial & error I needed to install Magisk 12.0 (via TWRP zip install) & MagiskManager 4.33 (with a APK Manager after reboot) FIRST. (as Ieatgravity pointed out...)
4. After you get to root this way you can just stay there (depends if you need SafetyNet or not) or get the more modern version of Magisk. As AlienTeck points out, you MUST install zips inside of TWRP due to the way the boot/kernel protection works. Installing inside of TWRP works outside of the booted system & gets the install done. You can't at present install inside of a running system without a reboot as soon as the kernel detects a system-wide change. This would prevent several "on-the-fly" root modifiers from working. I would hope someone will see the need to create a new boot.img & Kernel to side-step these issues.
5. There is only one custom ROM available right now---DRAX, & with my current experience, it seems to work MUCH better than the Stock ROM. It changes the spacing on-screen (for the better) & is debloated....definitely is faster/smoother than Stock.
Well---I'm not the FINAL authority on the X2/X2/Mini...there are several great people on the forum...I did this just to give a brief info list for people to look at without TOO much searching. You will find all the answers in the main thread----it just takes a bit of digging to get to them.
My hope is that this thread starts a "how-to" thread for people to refer to...And if I've miss-stated any info I've posted above, please feel free to correct me.
I downloaded the very latest Magisk from git ( https://github.com/kantjer/MagiskFiles ) version 13.3-170812-zip & then removed the Magisk App-booted into recovery-flashed the Remove-Magisk zip-cleared cache-rebooted into recovery-flashed the new version & NOW I have Magisk working properly.
I thought I'd offer a newbie perspective on the big brother BLOX2 (Life One X2 4 gigs /64 gigs).
I was planning to use BLOX2 AutoRoot, but I couldn't make it work. It got as far as unlocking the bootloader, then just sat there doing nothing. Same thing for BLOX2 ToolKit. (I think both problems were caused by my computer, not the software.) So then I decided to do the unlock via ADB, then Flash TWRP f=and BLOX2 Core from an SD Card.
My laptop (Lenovo ideapad FLEX4 running Win 10 Home 64 bit) does not like to recognize my phone. When I open a command prompt window and type in 'ADB devices' (ENTER) the computer pops up a notice telling me "the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." ADB returns an ambiguous statement that "a list of devices is attached" (to what, I have no idea). NONETHELESS, when I got frustrated and ran "fastboot oem unlock" it unlocked my boot loader in less than 2 seconds. Go figure.
I had to install TWRP a couple-three times as well before it "took" and stayed even after a reboot to system. I remember reading in a guide to rooting the Blu R1HD (if memory serves) that one ought to reboot into recovery after each step in order to make sure that the original image does not overwrite the new one. Don't know if this is related, but I followed that dicta from that point on. Lucky for me, TWRP installed right-side-up.
As for installing BLOX2 Core, the hardest part of this was putting the file onto an SD card in such a way that TWRP would recognize it. After that I popped it into the phone, booted up, opened TWRP. I found the BLOX2 Core file, flashed it and sat back to watch the magic happen. Line upon line upon line of pretty little code bits rolling by -- and all of it in black! No angry red lines to be found anywhere! As someone who is so far much better at bricking phones than modding them, this was truly a lovely site.
After this, there was really nothing left for me to do but BACKUP EVERYTHING! First I did a TWRP backup. (I have not been able to convince Nandroid itself to function on demand. It works fine on a scheduled basis, but when I try to run it directly it runs for three seconds, announces it is finished, and presents me with a non-file.) Then I installed one of my favorite apps: Titanium Backup. I setup TB to backup all system data and user apps on a schedule, and then ran the first one directly.
In all the excitement, I had forgotten all about Magisk, but a few hours later I noticed an icon labeled "Magisk." I clicked on it just to see if it was actually installed or just sitting there to install if I wanted to. When I saw that it was indeed the installer I just shut it down and left it alone. I strongly suspect that it was SU-Magisk failing to play nice that led to my bricking my first BLOX2, so I wanted to research how to get rid of it safely. Well, before I could get anywhere on that, the system on my BLOX2 started acting weird in familiar ways. Apps that I had not opened started 'closing' suddenly -- each one flashing a popup at the bottom of the screen that immobilized the touch screen until it was dismissed. When my first BLOX2 started doing this I thought I must have gone overboard with one of the longer-battery-life (Xposed) modules. So I frantically started zeroing them out to stock. This didn't help and the slippery slope had been crossed.
With my second BLOX2 I was a bit better prepared. I immediately uninstalled MAGISK and frantically ran every utility I could think of to be sure that there were no bits and pieces left to irritate SU into killing my phone. Just to be on the safe side I reflashed the entire BLOX2 Core zip, then backed up the result with both Nandroid and TB. This was a couple days ago, and my phone seems content.
I know that the BLOX2 Core I am running is not technically a "custom" ROM, but it still runs noticeably more smoothly than the original. Right now Settings shows 3.6GB total Ram, with 2.1GB free, which means that it is using about 1.5GB with screen on but only background stuff running.
As to my laptop's refusal to see my phone, I think the problem is in my PC. I have had nothing but problems with SP Flash, ADB, and all the various Qualcom-related tools. I have tried QFIL, SN-Write, WRTool, and the like. Even MTK DroidTools gives a message that there is nothing connected to the computer, then freezes. Go figure.
One thing I've learned is that an OTG cable is a real nice thing to have & TWRP will recognize it with a simple click in storage. Put your downloads on a Stick--connect it to an OTG cable, plug it into the phone & you are set.

This little thing is so cool. Right now I am doing a Nandroid backup (via TWRP) and storing the backup on my USB drive.

Thanks!
