[Q] Lost functions after deleting bloatware from rooted Sensation 4G - HTC Sensation

Hi all, I have a rooted HTC Sensation 4G, which still has T-Mo provided ICS 4.0.3 and I assume Sense 3.6. I never put any other ROMs in, not sure how, just wanted root for stuff like tethering, call recording, etc. The phone has been getting more and more slow as time goes on, and has gotten to the point lately I have nothing left to lose. When making a call, the Contacts lists stays up a good 60 seconds or so before the screen comes up where t is actually dialing for you, or if I manually put a phone number in, it just hangs there just as long before the phone takes over to actually make the call. And do just about anything else, when getting out of what your were doing, I get the white HTC screen, then loading the screen with the time and temp which takes a good 30 seconds. Using the browser often just cuts me off and reverts to the home screen.
I thought finally getting rid of the bloatware may help, got rid of NOVA, Lookout, a lot of wallpapers and widgets I don't use, something called CS and a couple others I looked up online which says is OK to delete, as well as Facebook, Youtube, TV apps, etc.
After I was done, first thing I noticed, no time and temp. display. I used an app called NoBloat and checked "backup and delete" on all I wanted to get rid of. I started trying to install from NoBloat's back-up folder, and even though says installing, I could tell they weren't when I looked for the installations. I found the NoBloat folder on my SD card, and tried the .apk's from there, and the majority would say "Can't install" or something similar. I then wanted to take a screenshot of something, and that function is gone.
I would like to do a reset to start from scratch without losing root. I found out the Senastion is a tough one to root and I paid someone to do it and it took 2 days before I could pick it up. Is there a way to reset without losing root since I still have stock 4.0.3 in it? Thanks much.

do you have a custom recovery installed?

Hi, if you mean a custom ROM, no. But if any of these will help, I have BusyBox Free, NoBloat, ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox Lite, Root Browser Lite, Root Checker, Super SU, SuperUser, SuperUser Whitelist, Terminal Emulator, and Titanium Backup installed. I never backed anything up with Titanium BU. Was one of those things I was going to lean to use, but didn't yet. I assume I need to install a custom ROM to get total functionality back without losing root, would be nice to get Kit Kat on this (or is this phone too old to do much with?)
I did manage to install "Sense flip clock & weather" from Google Play which broght back time and temp., and also Screenshot Ultimate which seems to work, but not as easy to use as the native app. A bunch of other screenshot apps seemed not to work at all, so now I can basically get by the way it is now, but still need to get the 60 second dialing lag fixed which is still there, so I'm assuming a fresh ROM install. Thankfully my Wifi Tether app still works. Thanks.

not a custom rom
a custom recovery such as 4ext ,cwm ,TWRP
if you want to use a custom rom you must have a custom recovery installed
by the way all custom roms come pre-rooted
so don't worry about root(it is the easiest part)
can you post your bootloader details?

Hi rzr86, here is the screen I got, I didn't know if/how to proceed any further. I also noticed I have ClockWorkMod installed if that helps, I had the phone rooted around August of 2013 if that helps, so I think all the apps to do with rooting have not been updated, Thanks again.

i suggest to change your recovery to 4ext(since you are on S-ON 4ext has smartflash feature which flashes the boot.img for you while flashing a new rom)
take here the latest version of 4ext recovery
http://www.4shared.com/zip/WnSyLWMaba/4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1006_RC3_.html
extract the recovery.img and flash it via fastboot command
the command is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
if you stay with cwm recovery you will have to flash the boot.img manually while flashing a new rom

Hi rzr86, thanks agin, I will do this later tonight when expecting no phone calls. So I would delete the clockwork app, and put the recovery.img from the zip file into my SD card, and tap that, or do I go into the bootloader menu again and tap FASTBOOT and put in the command? Any suggestions on what a good ROM for me would be? I assume the 4EXT Touch Recovery automatically backs up what I have now, or prompts me to? Thanks again.

no don't put the recovery.img in your sdcard
connect your device in your pc in fastboot usb mode
extract the recovery.img from the zip and place it in your adb/fastboot folder on your pc
on that folder open a command window and type the command
don't worry it will overwrite the cwm recovery
AFAIK 4ext restores backups made by cwm because 4ext is based on cwm
about rom you can try vipers 5.3.0 (jelly bean with sense)

Thanks once more rzr86, I think I have enough info to handle it from here, and I'll look up the vipers 5.3.0. I know a lot of people say Sense is worthless and a memory hog, but I'm used to it now, and I'm sure with the new ROM some of that memory will be freed up from bloatware. I'll try the new recovery app later tonight, and I assume I can wait another day to put in the viper ROM if needed. Guess I should back my SD card up, even though I assume none of this touches the SD card. Does the SIM card need to be in, as I have an old Dash I can put the SIM in for now till I'm done. Thanks much again.

Not getting too far, give up for tonight. Used "Minimal ADB and Flashboot" app, stays on "waiting for device". I tried modifying the name as recovery in the file name twice. I tried command from the folder I unzipped the recovery.img to, as well as trying to copy recovery.img to the Minimal program folder and try from there. I read I don't need the whole huge ADB download for what I'm doing on another site. I used this to get Minimal:

don't use any program
just open a command window in that folder where you have adb/fastboot files
edit: by the way did you select fastboot when you connected the device to pc?(from the bootloader screen)

I used the Fastboot under settings, I'll try the Fastboot by pressing Vol down and Power, wasn't sure which to use, thanks again, and will do without launching a program later in today. I should have known better to try the Fastboot screen if the other didn't work.

Hi rzr86, just tried again, powered up phone using vol down and power, have bootloader screen, selected Fastboot. Also gives other options like Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, and Power Down. If I hit power, says Hboot, then checks something real fast something about SD card and no image?. and the prompt is on Fastboot again, and it does say "Fastboot USB", and I can hear the sound on the PC that the USB is connected. I tried from the original adb-fastboot folder I made and also tried unzipping into a new folder as seen in the pic, still getting "fastboot not recognized, Thanks again.
...".

PS I noticed under Recovery Options says "install from SD card" or something to that effect, would this help? (I just rebooted my phone into normal mode), maybe I should try the other way?

actually the zip isn't a flashable one
so you can't use that option
try this way
download and install 4ext updater app(link in my signature)
open the app and select to install 4ext recovery touch
it will do the job for you

Success! Thank you! I downloaded and installed RC2, hope that's good, as I feel more comfortable with that vs. RC3 still in testing stage. I will take a night of rest since it's Saturday night here and feel like doing something other than phones the rest of the night, LOL. I assume I'm good to go with putting viper530 in, will try on my own tomorrow night, I assume done in a similar way. Funny last couple of days, haven't been getting as long as a delay making calls usually, sometimes go thru right away instead of lagging for often near a full minute, but regardless I think I should go ahead with a new ROM. I assume viper530 compatible with T-Mobile USA. Thanks much again, rzr86!

OK, I think I did the backup right. I just chose the 4EXT app, it booted into recovery screen, I found Backup from Recovery and backup, chose Backup, then went back to Advanced and chose all 4 from there, I think they were system, boot, data, and cache. Rebooted, saved my whole SD card to my PC via the USB "use as disk drive" option. On the backup screen, the word "nandroid" was nowhere to be found (as some other screenshots showed using CWM), just said 4EXT Recovery something, pic attached. I assume I did right. Does 4EXT store the backup in the ClockWorkMod folder on the SD card? Seems that way to me, as now folders showing a bunch of .tar files under the "backup" folder, and the system, boot, cache, and data folders under the "Advanced" folder, and I don't see much in the 4EXT folder. I also backed up what I could using Titanium backup the other day.
Next I went into your signature and clicked the viper 530 link, and all I see on the resulting page is viper 521. Is there a link you have to 530, or should I use 521? I assume I use 4EXT to flash the new ROM, but from the SD card, thanks again, guess almost there.

nandroid is the backup you made
and there is no need to make an advanced(advanced backups specific partitions of your rom)
just go backup/restore-> backup and you are done(it backups everything)
and yes the backup is located to the cwm folder of your sdcard
there are links for 5.3.0 in the rom thread but if you can't find them take it from here

[TUT] Telus HTC Desire *UPDATED* - Windows Drivers, Root, Radio and ROM Instructions

Ok, so I just took the tutorial written by Slimdizzy and have modified it for Windows users, as he stated he was using a Mac, and a lot of people seem to be having issues getting this working. Go easy on me this is my first TUT write up, I hope it helps......If anyone has a correction or a suggestion please let me know.
Credit goes to Slimdizzy for his original post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750888
When I rooted my Telus HTC Desire the first time it was hit and miss, if I remember correctly I did it 3 times until it worked 100%, by this I mean Unrevoked/Root ran without hitch, and after running Unrevoked I was able to reboot into Android, and then reboot back into recovery on my first try without any weirdness.....
The following steps are what I did to get my drivers installed and working the first time, rooting the phone, installing Radio 5.09.00.20, and getting a custom ROM installed (I used OpenDesire)
First things first you need the drivers, this is the most important part. Nothing will ever work for you if you don't have the right drivers installed.
Drivers:
1. Download the Android SDK here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r06-windows.zip
2. Unzip and place the files in C:\Android. You can place the files wherever you want but my steps will use this location.
3. Run SDK Setup.exe , if you get the Failed to fetch URL error, hit close and then go to Settings and enable Force https://. Then click on Available Packages, near the bottom you will see USB Driver Package, place a check mark beside it and then click Install Selected.
Alternatively you can try using these drivers, they have worked for other users but I have not installed my drivers using this method so I can't say how well they will work.....
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?hash=908951&media=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.unrevoked.com%2Frecovery%2Fandroid-usb-driver.zip
4. Android SDK will download your drivers and place them here C:\android\usb_driver.
Now plugin your Desire with USB Debugging enabled (Settings --> Applications --> Development). Windows will prompt you for the device drivers, point windows to the C:\android\usb_driver folder and it should do it's thing. YOU MUST BE SURE TO INSTALL THE ADB DRIVERS, without those Unrevoked will not run.
5. Once all your drivers are installed, you can verify them by checking with the Android SDK
Open a DOS prompt (CMD in the Run box) and navigate to C:\android\tools and then type "adb devices", it should return a funny device name/ID, if you see a device listed then you are good to go, if you don't then repeat these steps until you do, check your Device Manager for an uninstalled device/driver.
***UPDATED***
Steps for Rooting:
***Follow these steps after you are 100% sure you have the drivers right!***
***DO NOT plug you Desire into your computer yet***
1. Goto http://unrevoked.com and download the software
2. You now have a choice of recovery, Amon RA has released an SLCD version of his recovery, which in my opinion is much better, it has a few more features than Clockwork. I recommend Amon RA, but the choice is yours.
Amon RA Recovery v1.7.0.1 R5 SLCD: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4481275/recovery-RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5-SLCD.img
Clockwork v2.5.0.7 SLCD:http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip
3. Go to HBOOT, this is done by shutting down your phone and powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time, once HBOOT is loaded do a wipe (Clear Storage). You can navigate the menus by using the volume rocker and the Power button to select your option.
4. Load Unrevoked and load the custom SLCD recovery file on your PC:
Goto File>Custom Recovery and point it to the recovery image that you downloaded in step 2.
5. Restart your phone, it will take a few minutes because you did a wipe, just wait it will load (up to 5 minutes). As soon as the welcome screen loads plug your phone in to the PC and Unrevoked should do it's thing. If Unrevoked doesn't start, then hit the Menu button go to Settings --> Applications --> Development and enable USB debugging.
6. The phone will restart a couple of times, and will look like it's hanging on the HTC screen but it's not! If the HTC screen is present for more than 5 minutes pull your battery and start again ( I had to do this a couple times myself). If Unrevoked pauses half way through its process, it could be because for some reason you don't have the proper drivers installed. You can load them as Unrevoked does the root process, while the phone is rebooting if Unrevoked pauses and Windows prompts you for a driver point it to the C:\android\tools directory and it will load the drivers and Unrevoked will continue its root process.
7. When Unrevoked is finished you will be left at the recovery screen,
8. *** VERY IMPORTANT*** Before restarting do a "wipe cache partition", "factory reset". And now would be a good time for a Nandroid Backup
9. Now reboot, and Android should load. Check for Superuser Permissions app, if you see it you're good if not restart from step 3.
10. Shutdown and load HBOOT, wait a few seconds for SD card (you'll see something try to load quickly), then load recovery again, it should load everytime without issue now.
It may take a few tries, but just follow these steps and it will work.
Steps for flashing radio, and custom ROM:
1. Grab a custom ROM from the forum, I used OpenDesire: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615
OpenDesire comes with a nice reboot to Recovery feature built in.
2. Once zip is download, copy it to your SD card
3. Get the updated radio needed from here: http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2.zip
4. Reboot into recovery by powering on the device while holding the Power button down and pushing Volume down at the same time. Select Recovery with the Volume rocker and then click the power button to launch it.
5. Select "install zip from SD card" using the trackpad and select the radio zip that you download in step 3.
6. Let it do its thing (could take up to 10 mins to finish), use the back button to get to main menu and select "reboot system now" with the trackpad. If your phone hangs after rebooting wait at least 10 minutes before pulling the battery, it could be finishing the radio update.
7. Once rebooted check that the new radio is good by loading HBOOT (you should know how to do this by now) and at the top it will show you're radio version.
8. Load recovery again and select "wipe cache partition", "factory reset" (for the 3rd and final time). Then select "install zip from SD card" using the trackpad and select the ROM zip that you download in step 1.
9. The new ROM is now installed, restart the phone and wait up to 20 minutes (it shouldn't take that long) for the new ROM to load, DO NOT PULL YOUR BATTERY UNTIL AT LEAST 20 MINUTES HAVE PASSED.
You should now have your phone rooted, new radio installed, and a new custom ROM loaded.
Sorry for such a long post, but I found all these steps necessary to get the end result.
If I have missed anything or if anyone has comments / corrections post them here and I will try to keep the tutorial updated and easy to use as possible.
Great post man. I found the "dont plug the phone in yet" part out the hard way. I thought I had busted it on the 1st try!
Couple of things.
USB debugging is under development in Apps. (not a big deal)
Those unrevoked drivers worked great for me, I followed the instructions in the HTML doc that came with the zip. I have heard there are extra drivers needed for windows 7, and you have to be sure your running unrevoked as an admin.
Once I was rooted, I used RomManager to get the newest clockwork and flashed it. I used rom manager to flash the rom, HBoot to flash the radio, and did it backwards. Seems to not make a difference.
Thanks for doing this!
Edit: you forgot the most important part! Always Nandroid backup, and copy all the files from the SD card as soon as you are rooted incase something goes wrong.
Below may be wrong info, but it is what happened to me.
//////////////Extra tip, if you format an SD card, be sure you copy back the clockwork files before you unmount the card. I didn't and could not boot at all untill I copyed all the files back. I went straight to a nandroid without trying to boot into android, so I don't know if I messed up Android, but I know it would not boot to anything untill I fixed the SD card.

There are other folders that look like system folders that may also be important./////////////

I believe this is misinformation.. only reason because I was having that endless HTC frozen screen so I formated my SD card, the FAT32 partition and the EXT3 partition in windows using Paragon Partition Manager, finally got back into recovery, wiped everything from cache to davlik cache as well.. then installed my rom.
If Clockwork was stored on the SD card.. I believe it wouldn't have booted.. got a little confused there. However, the Nandroid backups are stored on the SD card.. that I know for sure!

These devices make no sense to me. Maybe I didn't help anything with the copy and just trying to boot a few times would work. I would expect things to work or not work, but they work intermittently some times. Certainly increases the confusion/frustration levels.
Wouldnt be using the latest radio and using "recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img" instead of the old one be better?

Ext3 partition is for A2SD, I never touched my SD Card until I was rooted, updated radio, and loaded a custom ROM. I can't say whether or not the SD card plays a role in freezing during boot to recovery or not? But like I said I never partitioned my SD until after everything was done.....
Very good tutorial !
Thank you
After all that, what's about the apps, contacts, calendar ?
And for this file: 2. Get the needed recovery image from here: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover....0.7-bravo.zip... is it for slcd ?

Recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip has been confirmed to work with SLCD, the link has been updated.
Thanks!
ok - at step 8
8. *** VERY IMPORTANT*** Before restarting do a "wipe cache partition", "factory reset". And now would be a good time for a Nandroid Backup
Can someone point me to a nandroid backup tutorial.

****UPDATED*****
04/04/11 - Added Gingersense Roms to Step 7
20,000 Views!!!
Hello XDA and community. I've compiled a complete walkthrough to root, s-off, and flash a custom rom on your GSM HTC Desire. This guide was created with NOOBS in mind so please follow along.
***This method only works for users with hboot 0.93 and lower. Sorry 1.06 users, but until unrevoked updates, your stuck on stock htc***
To check your hboot, turn off your phone. Hold volume down and press power while continuing to hold volume down. A white screen should load with alot of information on it. The 2nd line will have your hboot version.

Step One - Service Provider RUU roms
Step Two - Root Preparations
Step Three - How To Root Your Device
Step Four - How To S-Off Your Device
Step Five - How To Partition Your Sd Card
Step Six - How To Nandroid Backup
Step Seven - How To Flash a Custom Rom
Step Eight - Optional Extras
The 1st thing im going to teach you about is your service providers RUU rom. This is not nessesary for the rooting procedure, but nessesary if you have problems or need to send your phone in for repair. So lets be safe and download it before hand.
STEP ONE - Download Your Providers RUU rom
A RUU rom is the stock rom your provider had preinstalled in your desire. The reason for downloading is just incase you have problems, you can always reflash the RUU back to the factory default. Your providers RUU rom will erase your root, s-off, apps, contacts, sms messages, and call history. The RUU will not touch anything you have saved to your sdcard such as music, photos, or videos.
Now on your phone, goto settings>about phone>software then look for your baseband version and build version. Use that information to find your RUU file here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Once you have your RUU file downloaded, store it in a safe place on your pc. Now im going to show a video of me flashing my providers stock RUU. You do not need to do this, im only shooting this to showcase to new comers that its easy to erase root and return to your providers stable sense 2.2.
******PLZ NOTE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PERFORM A RUU FLASH, I ONLY DID ONE TO SHOWCASE HOW EASY IT IS TO REMOVE ROOT ACCESS AND FEATURES ******
Watch this video showcasing how to flash the RUU if you ever need too:
I created part one strickly because I understand how difficult it can be when you want root access but your afraid of the repercussions.
Now that you understand how todo a emergency reflash, lets prepare your phone and computer so they can transmit the root through hboot
STEP TWO - Root Preparations
First things first, download and install HTC sync which can be found at: http://www.htc.com
After its completely installed, open control panel then goto programs and features. Look for HTC sync and uninstall it. But leave the drivers. DO NOT UNINSTALL ANYTHING OTHER THEN HTC SYNC. The drivers are needed to connect your phone in hboot mode. Next, Your going to have to flash a modifed usb driver so you can transmit the root through hboot mode. i was going todo a video for this section but i found this tutorial could showcase what you need todo alot clearer then i could with a video. So just click the following link and continue following along
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
After youve updated the usb hboot driver, its time to prepare your phone. First thing we are going todo is turn on usb debugging. Goto settings>applications>development>usb debugging and turn this feature on. It allows your phone and pc to have a conversation and exchange information with one another. Next, click your back button so your at settings>applications and make sure unknown sources is also turned on. At this point, you should reset your phone and reset your computer. Now that youve prepared your phone and pc to communicate through hboot mode, your ready to use unrevoked to root your phone
STEP THREE - Rooting Your Device Using Unrevoked
Now that your ready fto flash root access, download Unrevoked3 here: http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Unrevoked is the program used to flash superuser, busybox, and clockwork recovery into your phone. Once downloaded, hook your phone up to your computer and when it asks you what kind of connection you'd like, click charge only and dont ask me again.
Heres a video to showcase the installation. Just follow along:
After youve successfully rooted your device, youve opened your device to most but not all features your device is capable of doing. You now have to S-off using alpharev to fully unlock the power of android.
STEP FOUR - S-Off Precedure With Alpharev
HTC created a new security feature they have implemented into the majority of there phones which blocks the ability to really tweak the phones internal features like your splash screen, boot animations, changing the size of system partitions, etc. You must create a way to bypass the security system which can be done with alpharev s-off procedure.
First thing were gonna do is download the alpharev hboot reflash utility from: http://alpharev.nl/
Once you have this file downloaded, you have to burn it with an iso burning program or place it on a usb drive. I perfer the disc as i have so many laying around. I Used Magic Iso to burn the boot disc which can be found here http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm
Once you have magiciso installed, all u have to do is open it, then click the "Burn dvd/cd with iso" then click the alpharev iso, then burn it.
Once you have your alpharev s-off disc in hand, you must setup your pc so it reads boot discs before it reads windows on your hard drive. To do this, restart your pc. When your pc restarts, it will have a screen with your manufacturers logo. In one of these corners it will say something like "press F5 for setup." press the required button your specific computer asks for and it will bring your too a menu like this:
Your computer will start the boot sequence from the top of the list. So you want to move your cd/dvd drive above your hdd in the boot list. once youve moved it above your hdd, save the changes and close the setup menu. Below is a video of the S-off precedure starting from where the text ended.
After youve successfully s-offed your device, its time to partition your sdcard.
STEP FIVE - Partitioning Your Sd Card With Gparted
A majority of custom roms today come with a feature called "App2sd". This feature allows movement of most applications to your sd card to save valuable system space which is definately needed for a device with such a small amount of room for applications [131mbs] as the desire. To set this feature up, you must first partition your sd card using a program called "Gparted". You can download this program here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
After youve downloaded the file, you must burn it in the same method as you burned alpharev. Again, use magiciso to burn a boot disc you can use to bootup when you turn on your pc. Follow along with this video:
STEP SIX - Stock Nandroid Backup
After youve successfully partitioned your sd card, youve got to make a stock nandroid backup just incase you have an issue with a rom you decided to try.
Watch this video for instructions:
Now that youve made a backup of your stock rom, your ready to flash a custom rom
STEP SEVEN - Flashing A Custom Rom
Now that your ready to flash a custom rom, you have quite afew choices. But after many months of testing, im going to post my personal favorites of each type.
First, we have sense roms. Sense roms are the same as the stock htc rom butwith tweaks and modifications. My personal favorite sense rom is Leedroid which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Second, we have sense hd roms. sense hd roms are roms pulled from the desire hd. There basically the same as sense roms except they give you extra features like flipclock, the porsonalize button, skins, etc. These are my second favorite type of rom. And my personal favorite sense hd rom is Cool Sense Hd which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899943
UPDATE- Third, We Have Gingersense roms. Gingersense is a sense hd rom updated to googles gingerbread 2.3.x. So youll have all the greatness of a sense hd rom with the additions of gingerbread like notification settings, a new app drawer etc. These roms are amazing but still in development stages and lack specific features like camera and a proper 3d graphics lib. My personal favorite is Robo's RCMixS which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
Fourth, we have ASOP roms. These are the stock google roms. They are pritty bare minimum roms but incredible in the speed department. These are my favorite type of rom. And my personal favorite of the bunch is Cyanogen Mod 7 which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957344
Last but not least, we have MIUI roms. These are the closest thing your going to get to an Iphone. If your looking for an iphone look, go with an MIUI rom. Favorite MIUI rom is Xj's 2.3 which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291
It's up to your personal preference, so go ahead and choose your favorite then continue. Im going to use Cyanogen Mod 7 RC3. Follow the video
Now that you have your custom rom installed, your good 2 go! enoy the power of android. The desire is already a great device but with all the extra youve just setup, its spectacular. There are still extras you can flash if you choose too. Step eight is purely optional.
[OPTIONAL] STEP EIGHT - How To Use Android Flasher
Android Flasher is a program for your pc you can use to flash custom splash screens [the 1st screen u see when u bootup ie. the joker alpharev], your boot animation [the cm7 spinning wheel], and your recovery [clockwork, amonra]. Download android flasher here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
And a good desire splashscreen thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8367224
Basically, extract the downloaded file to your desktop, open it and click android flasher. hook your phone up via usb cable on charge only. click the splashscreen box and begin. it will then ask where the file is. direct it to your file and click ok. it will ask if this is the picture you want. click ok. it will then load the splash into your phone. The odd time you will get a error and it wont flash. If this happens to you, just restart your computer and try again. Also make sure unknown sources is on and usb debugging.

Edit> The OP did PM me about my request for PVT4 but as yet its not here so to help others, I shall put it below:
Essential information before rooting
Current Android Software version
Settings>About phone. We need to check if your software is the ARA build (ARA 2.xx.415.x) this is the Arab build
Hboot version, PVT and Erase size.
Boot into Hboot (from off, hold volume down and press power)
Make a note of your Hboot version - Must be lower than 1.06
Make a note of your PVT version. If it is PVT4 you must now check if the erase size is 40,000
"Download Terminal emulator" from the market and open it.
Type "cat /proc/mtd" and press enter. It will return results of either 20,000 or 40,000
The reason we need to know the above:
The ARA build dictates you use unrevoked 3.32 (3.21 is best for anything else)
If erase size is 40,000 Amon RA 2.0.1 is better as Clockworkmod recovery supplied with Unrevoked does not work.
To select a recovery different to clockworkmod in unrevoked, before connecting the phone, go to File > Custom recovery
Hope this helps.

Not so Noob proof for me unfortunately
Unfortunately, not so noob proof for me...since step four gives me an error. I'm using Alpharev's ISO, burned on a cd. Then booting, trying to S-OFF my rooted stock ROM. Then when I see "pushing necessary files to phone" on the screen of my pc, it doesn't go beyond that point.
Thanks man, Everything worked ...... Keep up the Good Work
Thanks, worked perfectly for me.

Many thanks bro...working perfectly for me. Will keep me occupied for days playing with new roms.
hi.
i'm getting stuck at step 5.
After booting computer and plugging in the phone i think it doesn't load properly as i get repeated messages saying - sense key : hardware error - (and some other stuff) and then after a bit the screen goes blank but the computer is still on. i'd previously flashed a gingerbread .zip rom onto the phone if that is a problem?

I want to unroot my phone, in order to unlock it, then I'll root again.
I have couple of questions:
1) If I take Nandroid backup now that I'm rooted and have custom Rom, can I restore my phone using this backup after I've unroot and root my phone again using same method ?
2) I tried to flash my Desire with shipped RUUs, tried different ones, but none of them worked and they gave me error that the RUU doesn't match my phone or sth .. So someone told me that they have a solution to this. He said I just have to get the rom.zip file from the RUU and rename it to PB99IMG.ZIP and put it in the root of my SD card and using bootloader, I can unroot and go back to stock froyo. The problem is when the bootloader looks into my SD card to find the zip file, it doesn't find it !! I tried different SD cards and changed the name to PB99IMG with and without ".ZIP" and none of them worked !! What am I doing wrong here ?
3) I got an unlock code from interenet, my friends used that website and they unlocked their unrooted HTCs successfully, but I can't because it said I the phone ahs to be unrooted, is that right ?
Many many thanks in advance
ok after partitioning, what is the 1gb used for since moving the apps are to the left 13 gb of memory ?? since all the apps are moved to the 13gb fat32 part...

You shouldnt have to be unrooted, no. Also, you dont need unlock codes for the desire anymore. See here

[Q] Market doesn't upgrade to Google Play

I rooted my device and tried to install a custom ROM. But something got messed up and I had to unrooted the device and restore it to factory version with an RUU given by Hack Ace.
After restoring the device, Market doesn't upgrade to Google Play. I tired to restart and it did not help.
I'm now running GingerBread 2.3.3 with a HTC Sesse 2.1
Can anyone help me with what is wrong?
Try logging out of google if you haven't or look for the google play apk file and install it should be one floating around here somewhere
Well just read through and see if this helps

Awesome.. ? for you why did you go back to stock or are you planning to root again?
when i tried to flash the new ROM from ROM Manager...it left my Phone in a wierd state and i was not able to access Gmail or Play Store.
This is the first time i tried to root and Flash a new ROM and i am not exactly sure about the recovery process. So i decided to RESET everything. I am now looking into more videos and articles and videos to get familiar with the process. I would certainly try rooting again ASAP.

Well I never used the Rom manager aka clock work mod to flash a rom. Alway down load it and drag n drop to the sd card and boot into recovery mode and flash but you have to have cwm first and flash it to the recovery mode which there fore allow you too boot up into recovery with out issues.
Well once you do root again look me up. I can help with some basic info if I get time I can post or message you with some steps that I do that could help you out.

Hey no worries.. once you flash roms and get into kernels scripts etc its not all that bad
My Inspire
So this is an idea of what I do when I flash a rom and some other ideas/tips.
Getting Started or Flashing A Rom:
Once you root your phone (this is not in any order really) you should get ROM Manager aka Clock Work Mod. Once you get that, open the CWM and the first top half you will see flash clockworkmod recovery make sure your on wifi I would at least for the updates. You will see a dialog box click desire hd. This will allow you to make back ups of your settings that you made when you flash a rom its always a good idea to make your backups its a life save!! So, once you made your back up and this is what I do.. I plug in my phone to the pc switch to disk mode which will let you see whats on your sd card. Since you flash the CWM and recovery you will see on your sd card a folder called clockworkmod open then backups folder you will see you back that you made, drag and drop that backup file that you made to your fold that you made on pc to save it for later. And thats pretty much how I save my backups of roms etc.. Now if you need to load that back up just plug phone in disk mode cwm fold>backup drag and drop back up that you need. And boot into recovery mode and select back up and restore and select restore and the file boot and your good..
I would download which Rom I would like to use. Save it to pc to a folder that I have made that I store all my roms, backups, radios & rils, kernels..etc.. just to keep myself organized. Once you get your rom just drag and drop it to the ROOT of the sd card do NOT add it in any folder thats on the sd card. Once you have it on the card just boot into recovery flash your rom.. Other then that its easy to flash the rom.. And when you get all your settings set up make a back up and when done save it to the pc and delete it from the sd card if you dont want to keep on the card I do that..
When it comes to battery life it depends on what the rom.. But I like to use killers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305228&highlight=killersolth scripts for the kernels.. For me I always flash a different kernel upon flashing a new rom. For me having the kernel and killers script is the best combo for me to have for performance and battery life.. now since I have inspire I use the uv lites scripts.
For the most part flashing radios & Rils you would never really need to do that so I wouldnt recommend it for now maybe later but read about it its good to know what it does..
Other sides which I for got to add.. When you flash a new rom its always good to wipe user data.,cache, delvik it makes it for a good clean install with other roms..
Also the desire HD thread which the inspire can use the roms from that thread to.
Well I hope this helps you in any way.. if you need help PM me best of luck

[Q] How to flash a rom after rooting

OK I apologize ahead of time for what is probably a ridiculously easy question for most.
The ATT 1X is my first android and this is the first phone that I've rooted.
I read for hours and followed the instruction to a T. I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM.
I can get into Recover/Boot mode or whatever you call it on phone startup, I have the Super user icon in my files, but I have no idea what to do now.
I found a ROM that I thought was worth a shot (CleanROM 2.5) but I don't know what to do. I've read and researched for hours now and everyone's problems seem to be complicated but no one talks about this.
I downloaded the ROM to my computer but I don't know what to do with the files, I can't find a .bat file or anything to initialize it and I am stuck.
I've wiped the data and done everything in the steps but I'm stuck at actually installing it. I know I'm obviously doing something wrong but I feel like I'm very close to what needs to be done.
Any help is welcome, thanks

I recommend you check QA thread found in a sub forum under your devices section and you review the stickied post for ROM install or Google "android install custom ROM " (remove quotes). Too much info on this already to type it all back out here. Did you watch you tube newb video you agreed to have watched when getting an xda account?
Essentially you now made it so your phone has the ability via CWM Recovery to now boot to that to install ROM zip or continue to use rooted stock ROM (how you flashed that zip for superuser is baasically same as how you flash a cwm compatible ROM zip (MOST but not all ROMs)) which with SuperUser can now run privelleged code if it is made to or requires it to run.

Thanks. I know this must seem so stupid, but I've been searching this forum, google, youtube and pretty much everything else for how to do this and I get it all and understand what's happening.
I just don't know where to put this ROM (which folder) to get it to install.

So after all that searching you never came across instructions informing you to put the zip on your phones storage?
You should probably just hold off a bit on flashing anything then. Not being mean but it sounds like you are confused by the process and end result. Step back and do some basic checklisting.

Download the rom you want and DO NOT UN ZIP IT. THEN PLACE THAT ZIP ON PHONE STORAGE AND BOOT INTO YOUR CUSTOM RECOVERY . HIT INSTALL FROM SD CARD AND MAKE SURE THE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS LISTED BUT DONT FLASH YET. GO BACK THE THE MAIN SCREEN OF RECOVERY. NOW MAKE A BACKUP. WHEN THAT IS DONE GO BACK TO MAIN RECOVERY SCREEN AND HIT WIPE PHONE DATA AND THEN CONFIRM. THEN GO AND HIT CLEAR CACHE OPTION. THEN GO BACK AND GO TO ADVANCED AND CLEAR DALVICK CACHE. NOW YOUR READY TO FLASH. GO TO INSTALL ZIP FROM SD AND FLASH YOUR ROM. FIRST BOOT ALWAYS TAKES LONG AFTER FLASHING A NEW ROM

Been posting on the internet for decades, don't worry about being mean. I'm here to learn. I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM so that I could take advantage before the phone asked me to update the software to the 1.85 version.
My phone works fine now, and I did everything correctly which is what I was setting out to do. I'm in no rush to flash a ROM, but now that I'm ready I'm itching to try it out.

This is the process as I understand it and as stupid as it sounds, I'm hung up on where in phone storage to place the zip file of the rom. I don't see a storage folder, an SD folder, nothing that seems obvious and nothing that is in any of the things I've been reading or watching.

Plug phone into computer. When prompted, select Disk Drive. On computer, browse to your computer, open the 'disk drive', and copy the zip there. THAT is your sdcard as seen by your phone.

Seriously?
Wow I feel dumb. I was looking for a sub folder or directory specifically for storage and backup.
Thanks, I think that should be enough for me to do this tonight.

Yeah, some phones you may have to drag down notifications and tap USB mode or USB connected notification (it has standard USB icon and only appears when phone attached to computer). Then tap either USB storage mode or the button to enable USB drives. Then on computer just like a thumb drive it adds drive letter. Copy anything there that is /mnt/sdcard or /sdcard on phone. BE SURE TO EJECT DRIVES BEFORE AND TAP TO DISABLE USB ON PHONE IN THAT ORDER THEN UNPLUG FROM USB (failure to do so COULD result in data loss or corruption which you DO NOT want to happen to a ROM zip)!
Then boot in to recovery choose install zip from sdcard (not apply update from sdcard) as install from allows you to browse for any zip and install. Usually Vol up and down moves through menus and power or search button is enter. BE SURE THE ROM YOU DOWNLOAD IS SPECIFICALLY MEANT FOR YOUR DEVICE OR YOU COULD EASILY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PLEASE REVIEW HOW TO RUN NANDROID BACKUPS AND RUN ONE BEFORE INSTALLING A DIFFERENT ROM.
I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH IF UNSURE DON'T PROCEED, BE SURE YOU RUN NANDROID BACKUPS AND ENSURE YOU FOLLOW INSTALL DIRECTIONS INCLUDED WITH YOUR ROM. ALSO, NEVER FORMAT EMMC (AKA INTERNAL SDCARD) IT ALMOST GUARENTEES A BRICKED DEVICE.

Is all good, and now you see why we were kinda scratching our heads wondering what was up a little . Glad we could help get you going though welcome to the world of custom ROMs. Please just be careful and always do backups and take it slow and read things 2x before even attempting once. While it can be easy to do it is also easy to accidentally brick your device (make it not work and have to be sent out for repairs).

[CWM Recovery][Root]Alcatel Onetouch 997D

ROOT:
We've been discussing about this for about a month, and I think it's time to sum it all up and open a new cleaner thread.
First, how do you root the Alcatel Onetouch 997D?
This phone is quite new (less than 2 months in the market) and is one of the few phones which can't be rooted by the script developed by Bin4ry or the other well-known methods, such as Unlockroot or SuperOneClick, but it is not unrootable.
In order to root this phone, you must first boot it into Factory mode, a special menu, present in all Mediatek based phones, which can be used to test the various parts of the phone. You get to this menu by turning the phone on while pressing the volume down batton and power button at the same time, until it appears.
Once in factory mode menu, you can connect the phone to a pc, which, if the appropiate adb drivers are installed, will detect it. At this point, the phone can be rooted, by the use of an app called MTK Droid tools. I've succesfully tested versions 2.2.8 and 2.2.9.
After MTK Droid Tools finds the phone, you just have to press the "root" button. The phone will be rebooted two times, and after the second reboot, MTK Droid Tools achieves a temporary root which enables it to install Superuser, su and busybox, so the root is permanent.
During this process, MTK Droid Tools asks whether you want to make a backup. You'd better answer no, since this process is very buggy and fails on this phone, so it's a complete waste of time.
When "Task is complete" message appears, you can reboot the phone, but it won't work right away. Due to a problem not yet identified, it's mandatory to wipe data from recovery for the phone to work. Some people have reported the loss of Google Play Store, and others have lost a lot of apps. Anyway, a wipe solves the problem and the phone remains rooted.
MTK Droid Tools 2.2.8 can be found here: http://www.4shared.com/zip/NyHaro3-/MTKdroidTools.html
CWM Recovery:
We have a 99% working CWMR. I compiled it myself with the help of the dsixda kitchen and the MT6577 CWMR porting plugin developed by Bruno Martins.
I say it's 99% working because backup doesn't work 100%. Alcatel phones have a non standard partition called "custpack", which contains a lot of apps bundled with the phone and whose deletion prevents OTA updates from working, so it's not something one would like to remove. My knowledge of Android is not enough to try to dig inside CWMR source code, to see if I can modify the backup process and make it recognize the custpack partition, so I left it as is. Instead, I decided to develop a shell script which can make CWMR-compatible backups, which can at least be restored from it.
Everything else is fully functional. It's version 6.0.1.2.
To flash it, you need to root the phone, using the method explained above, and flash the recovery image using Mobileuncle Tools utility, which can be freely downloaded from Google Play Store. It's very important to download the latest version from Google Play, since previous versions lying around, and the version MTK Droid Tools installs during the root process can't flash a recovery on MT6577 processors.
To flash the recovery with Mobileuncle tools, you have to place it on the root of the external sd card and open Mobileuncle tools. After granting root permissions, if you haven't done yet, you choose "change recovery" and choose the corresponding .img file. Once the process is done, the phone will automatically reboot into the new recovery. It may fail, which you'll notice because the phone boots into the stock recovery, and you may need to do it again. I've noticed that, at least in mine, it works best if I do it while the phone is unplugged from the computer.
As I said abpove, everything, except backup, works well. Restore works, if you have the correct backup (more on this later).
My CWMR can be downloaded from my Mediafire account: http://www.mediafire.com/?v7wfjr6v1t7b0z5
NANDROID BACKUP:
After noticing the backup process in CWMR can't backup the Alcatel exclusive custpack partition, I began trying to solve this. I guess the best way to do it should be modifying the source code of CWMR to adapt the backup process, but, since that exceedes my current knowledge level, I tried differemt approaches. I downloaded the app Online Nandroid backup from Google Play, and learnt that a nandroid backup can be easily done using a shell script, given you have a rooted phone and a way to execute shell scripts. The good news is that it's done, and I have achieved my goal, and now have a working shell script, which creates backups that can later be restored from CWMR.
This script creates 7 files, like the standard CWMR backup process does. The files are:
1) boot.img
2) recovery.img
3) system.ext4.tar
4) cache.ext4.tar
5) data.ext4.tar
6) .android_secure.vfat.tar
7) nandroid.md5
Files 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are exactly what you now get if you use my CWMR port and perform a backup. The difference lies in file 3.
In a backup created from our current CWMR, this are the contents of the tar archives:
system.ext4.tar: files under /system, and all its subdirectories
cache.ext4.tar: files under /cache, and all its subdirectories
data.ext4.tar: files under /data, and all its subdirectories
.android_secure.vfat.tar: files under /sdcard/.android_secure
In a backup created by my script, it's slightly different:
system.ext4.tar: files under /system, and all its subdirectories, and also files under /custpack, and all it's subdirectories
cache.ext4.tar: files under /cache, and all its subdirectories
data.ext4.tar: files under /data, and all its subdirectories
.android_secure.vfat.tar: files under /sdcard/.android_secure
On both backups, boot.img and recovery.img are images compatible with Mediatek Flash Tool or Mobileuncle Tools (in the case recovery.img), and nandroid.md5 contains the md5 sum of every file, so the restore process can validate the integrity of them, to prevent you from ever restoring a corrupt archive.
In order to use my script, you need an app which can execute them. My preference (and the only one I have fully tested the script with) is GScript, which can be freely downloaded from Google Play Store.
There's also a paid version, but the only difference between them is that the paid version is updated more often than the free one.
How to install the script:
1) Download and install GScript, free or paid. You can use the apk file provided by me inside the attached zip.
2) Download the attached zip file with the scipt, if you haven't done so to install GScript.
3) Put the script on the external sd card, under a folder called "gscript". Use lowercase characters for the name and never change the name, as this would result in GScript not working or finding your scripts. The resulting structure should be:
/sdcard/gscript
|
------------> bin
Inside /sdcard/gscript you have the script itself, called "Alcatel_OT_997D_nandroid.sh" and inside /sdcard/gscript/bin, you have the busybox
binary, used by the script. Even if you have busybox already installed, don't delete this binary, since it's the only one the script will use, and
the only one it's been fully tested with.
4) Open GScript.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5) On the GScript main window, you can see a pair of sample scripts already included. You need to touch the menu button and then on "Add script".
6) Browse for the .sh file on /sdcard/gscript, and tick "Needs SU?" if it's not already ticked, since this script needs a rooted phone.
7) Once the new script is in the list of installed scripts, you only need to touch its name to launch it. The first time you do it, GScript will ask for root permissions. Allow it.
Once you open the script, it will run automatically, and will end around 5-10 min. later, depending on how loaded your phone is. In order to be able to see every message shown by the script, it's better to raise the screen timeout, to at least 10 minutes. After execution, the output window will auto close, unless you cancel auto closing by touching anywhere on the screen except, of course, the close button.
The backups are stored under the /sdcard/clockworkmod directory (the script will create it if its not already there), under which it will create a new subdirectory, with the date and time of the backup, just in the same format CWMR uses.
During the execution of the script, you may see two error messages, which are not really errors, but warnings you can ignore. These errors are:
1) Errors creating directories at startup. If the script has already been used, or you have tried the backup inside CWMR, sdcard/clockworkmod/backup already exists. The script will tell you that, but it will keep working.
2) Removing leading "/" from member names: tar utility removes "/" from the input parameters, just that.
3) XXXXXXXX: socket ignored, where XXXXXXXX is the name of a file. Sockets are temporary files Unix apps use to communicate with other apps. Since they are temporary, tar just ignores them, so you can also ignore the error message.
On mi phone, after I close the results window, GScript force closes, but this doesn't affect the execution of the script. As I've read somewhere, it
looks like this is a problem common to a lot of users.
DISCLAIMER:
This script is offered AS IS, with no warranty. It has been successfully tested on my own phone, and the generated backup was then perfectly restored from recovery with no issues, but I can't say it won't fail on other people's phones.
It's the first version, fully functional, but with some room for improvement. As it is right now, it's not error free, since it doesn't check if you have enough space left on the sdcard, or if you don't have any apps moved to the sd card. In fact, I have not tested it in such a situation, and I don't know what would happen if you backup your phone with no apps moved. On the other hand, it doesn't bakcup sd-ext, so if anyone has a second partition on the sdcard, to use Link2SD o a2sd, that partition won't be backed up, although data for apps linked to the second partition will. Anyway, even if it fails, you don't have to worry, since it won't change anything inside the phone. If you later restore a backup made with this script, you are doing it AT YOUR OWN RISK. I will not accept any responsibility for damage or data loss caused by the use of this script or restoration or any backup created with it.
Don't forget this script needs a rooted phone, and that performing some things on rooted phones is risky. If the worst case, you will always be able to recover the phone using Alcatel One Touch Upgrade on your pc.
Any comments or improvements are welcome, but if you change / improve anything, don't forget to share it with the community, so everyone can take advantage of it.
IMPORTANT:
This script is only suitable for the Alcatel OT-997D, and probably other phones by the same brand, if they have the "custpack" partition, exclusive to Alcatel. It won't work, unless code regarding the custpack partition is modified, in other phones, and I will not give support to users complaining the script doesn't work on their non Alcatel phones, or their Alcatel phones without s custpack partition.
FINAL NOTE:
Ok, that's it. Now, I'm going to have a rest, maybe until Alcatel release the long waited Jelly Bean update.
EDIT:
I had forgotten the "thanks" section:
Thanks to:
@dsixda, for the great kitchen
Bruno Martins (@bgcngm) for his valueable advice and his scripts to unpack/repack recovery of any MT657x based device
@yuweng, who developed the great kitchen plugin to port CWMR to any MT657x based device. and also pointed me in the right directory when I was trying to root the phone
@ameer1234567890, author of the great onandroid script. I haven't used your code, but it taught me I had to unmount and remount the sdcard on a different location to be able to backup .android_secure

Any chance of working on a custom rom? i would love to get the standard google theme instead of the alcatel icons
maybe i try to get this done, changing the icons is'nt that hard normally
btw i'm still looking to cleanup this phone, you know the partitions pretty wel, where is the location of all the stock apps like chrome etc, i would love to make the phone as close to googles standard as i can get it
edit: you can always pm me, i don't want to ruin this topic
Hey jman10 thank you very much for your awesome tutorial.
But i still have to ask, if the restore works 100%, because of lack of gps signals i made a cwm backup of my current stock-rom(4.0.4) and tried, if the newest update(4.0.4-01001) still has problems with gps signals. Well actually it didn't get any better, so i decided to go back to the old version with the help of my backup.
CWM said there were no errors while restoring, so also thought it. But i get a few bugs using the old version, the stock camera-app gets force closes, even after reboots or a data wipe. The stock e-mail app shows weird artefacts on the email subjects, a very large 'x'. It seems, like a lot of system files are missing or sth.
Can you help me?
Thanks!

If you use my script to backup your rom, restore from CWMR will work 100%. So, your way to go is to start from scratch. Download Alcatel Onetouch Upgrade to a pc, connect the phone and get the latest full version rom on their servers (which sometimes is not the latest one available). Then, connect via wifi and get the latest OTA update. After that, you can root the phone, flash CWMR and make a working backup. From that moment, you'll be able to restore whenever you want and not risk anything.
By the way, which problems are you having with the gps? Mine is working like a charm, even indoors. Where are you from and what kind of tests have you done with it?
Hey thanks for your quick answer, actually i did the whole process that way:
-root stock firmware 4.0.4
-installed cwm per mobileuncle tools
-created image per script
-updated with the help of one touch manager to 4.0.4-01001
-tried gps, didnt work
-rooted
-installed cwm per mobileuncle tools
and then i wanted to return to point 1, but as soon as i restored the backup, my camera doesnt work and i get random fc's of several apps. i would like to return to stock 4.0.4, because since the new update the system is more laggy
do you know a way? do you have a *.img of the old version?
my gps is really weird, i would say it works at 10%. in my home city i couldnt make it work, then i tried it randomly in 2 other cities and it worked instantly, but then i try it again at the same spot, where it worked a couple of hours earlier and it doesnt work anymore its really weird.
thanks man!

Did you do a factory reset after rooting? It's really important to do so, and the phone doesn't work if you don't.
Hey mate,
sure i did, i have no problems with root at all. My problem is to restore my cwm backup i did with the old firmware, because i really want it back badly. Do you have a image file of the "roll out" stock firmware?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
it seems like I am missing something.
I installed the MTK-Tools 2.2.8, connected the phone but the phone is not recognized. I see there is missing some MT65xx AndroidPhone-Driver. Where can I get one?
The installation of the OneTouchManager does not help. Any ideas?

The system image I have is vastly modified by me, so it might not be suitable for you. If you did the backup using my script, it should work right away. Can you tell me what files (names, sizes, etc.) you have in your backup?

There is a driver directory inside mtk tools zip. Let windows take that driver manually.

You need also to implement dual sim support on it.. it's a huge work!!!
For now we can aim to fix those annoying bugs on stock rom (if we can) and get a 100% working recovery.
My bugs on latest stock rom:
- bluetooth freezes when bt headset is disconnected by lack of signal
- compass doesn't give good values at all
- need for speed most wanted sound is borked and is not 100% smooth like on other mtk 6577 devices.
In addition I would like to have:
- smaller system bar on the bottom
- search button and menu button always visible on system bar
- extended power menu with the option to have "extended desktop" (system bar hidden by killing it, and then restarted when reenabled)
These can be made by editing framework with smali and friends.
Prerequisite is a fully deodexed rom (and that is easier) and a lot of spare time!
Any news?

About bugs:
- When I'm calling someone that is listed as favourite for a specific sim, the system asks which number I want to use.. I know about the configuration, I settled the first sim as principal (every call) and the second sim just for some contact. So, why is still asking which number is able to use for them? Is it a bug?
- The digital compass doesn't work well, or better, it's not working at all! The North it's not properly indicated, it follows the gravity verse..
Addictions:
- The status bar can be toggled by power menu or maybe by a sequence (example: vol - vol -)
Etc.

It's the same on mine.
I tried to set one contact associated to 1st sim and an other to the 2nd sim, and I set the 1st sim for all call.
When I want to call:
-if I phone one contact without associated's sim, call goes direct by the 1st Sim.
-If I phone one contact with the 1st sim associated, call goes direct by the 1st Sim.
-If I phone one contact with the 2nd sim associated, the sim choice windows appear but it's written "suggested" on the 2nd sim.
So the call don't start automatically.
and I set no principal sim for call (every time you need to choose), I have the sugestion on the associated's Sim.
Many people complained about this contact sim preference bug.. I never used this function, so I can't tell.
To toggle status bar, the better working solution I've found is the Hide bar app (search it on xda).
Yesterday I was fighting with my phone that looses signal on the secondary sim when on charge. It may be a bug with my sim/operator combination when sim1 has 3g enabled.
Sim1 Wind Italy, 3g enabled on it, Sim2 Tim Italy no 3g (obviously), when I attach charger or usb cable, I loose Tim signal.
Swapping usim card slots does nothing.
If I enable 3g on Tim Italy, and no-3g on Wind Italy, it works flawlessy. Same if I disable totally 3g.
Anyone with similar issues?
I collected radio logcats and sent them to Alcatel Italia. Probably they will not reply at all, but I have tried...
Please do the same for other bugs! Maybe they'll hear us..
Converning CWM Backup: What about making the backup with online nandroid backup using an adapted partition layout like for those devices here?
That would be restorable by your cwm, too?
