S8 and S8+ camera voice control issue - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Camera voice control issue on s8+.
If I activate it, device takes pictures by itself even without noise. I am forced to deactivate it. Anyone has this problem ?

If anything mine seems less responsive to voice than my s7e was. Have to say "shoot" pretty loud. Too loud for public spaces actually

In theory, it seems that an app is using the microphone which leads the camera to take infinite images.
check your background apps and permissions
try to run it in safe mode to make it easier

Thx It's ok ? now

[Q] Noise Reduction/Cancellation

It seems that the tone of my voice is partially seen as background noise by most phones
To the people I'm talking to, my voice is not very clear. I had a Galaxy S3 and there was an option to disable "noise reduction" and that pretty much took care of the problem.
Does anyone know of anyway to turn this feature off on the N5?
Thanks!

Hi,
I've the same problem with my Nexus 5 ! So, i look for the same option : disable noise cancelation (Instead of using a headset !) Someone has an idea ? Do you know if the safe mode disable noise cancelation ?
Thanks,
Same issue... No good solution that I know of. Bump for visibility

Bump. Sort of the same issue here. During a call if I hold the mic next to my mouth it works fine, but if I move it like 5 cm from it it looks to the caller like I'm 10 meters from the phone. Also, when I play back a recorded video I hear a static under the normal sound (really anoying), I think those issues are related right? Btw, on a Skypecall or soundrecorder app it works flawlessly like it should, really weird!
So anyone found a trick to disable noise cancellation yet? Or something else?
I'm also experiencing these issues, and looking forward to a solution.
As far as I know, currently it is not possible to disable the noise cancellation sw.
As a temporary fix you can try to cover up the second mic located at the top of your phone.

I downloaded an app from the Play Store called BuildProp Editor. Just open the app and find it in the list, click on it, change the setting to false and you're done.

Use adb to pull edit and push build.prop file :good:
To edit/overwrite build.prop, /system needs to be mounted read-write, which in turn means root is required.

Just did a quick test for about 5 mins on a normal call and NOT with speakerphone on the Nexus 6P. It turns out covering the mic below the "visor" on the back with my finger gets rid of the problem completely!
I tried speaking from about 8cm away towards the phone and the receiver was able to hear me clearly with the back mic covered. Even speaking at different angles the other person was able to hear me, however the second I removed my finger from the back mic, the person said the voice became muffled.
---------- Post added at 01:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:34 PM ----------
Tried using the build prop editor on my Nexus 6P changing the value to false and rebooted the phone. The value has reverted to True since my phones not rooted, BUT I don't need to hold my finger over the back mic anymore as the receiver can hear me clearly now! Maybe that attempt somehow reset the the noise cancelling mic or did something since its fixed the muffle effect ? will update in a few days time.

Voice Input problem with Gear S2 Classic, Please Help!

Hi. I've recently purchased Gear S2 Classic, updated to the latest firmware and smartphone apps/plugin/service.
I am facing a strange problem with voice recognition. S-Voice App on the watch works 100% perfectly, and can easily recognize and transcript my voice. However, in all other apps, when I try to use voice input (like when I reply to a message), nothing happens! as if I am not even talking. The problem also happens in Voice Memo app on the watch, where I can record my voice but the option to convert my voice to text doesn't work. I checked the audio recording quality on my smartphone and it was fine and clear. The watch's microphone is working alright, but for some reason anything except S Voice App cannot use voice-to-text input.
To recap: The problem is NOT S-Voice. it's voice input (which may rely on S-Voice, I know). But S-Voice app itself on the watch is working just fine all the time. My issue is limited to using voice input (voice-to-text) in other apps.
As for the internet connection. I tried both 4G and WiFi (24Mbps broadband), through Bluetooth and also directly connected the watch to home WiFi.
Any idea? Please Help!
My devices info:
Gear S2 Classic: firmware DPFB / Language: English UK

Gear Plugin v2.2.03.16082251

Hmmm, I got my Gear S2 connected to a Sony Xperia Z2, so I don't have S-Voice installed on that :crying:
oh...hope you find a fix soon.
long shot but how about clearing the cache on the gear apps on phone?

Same here. Worked in the beginning then stopped. Sent an e-mail to Samsung support but no reply yet. Speech-to-text-recognition on the Gear should be independent from S-voice app on phone, no? I had the latter disabled already when speech to text still worked with the Gear.
you could well be right and it was just a coincidence...just glad mine's sprung back into life.

Tried that already, but that only makes me reconnect everything ... so no improvement by that.
I also contacted Samsung support online and in person, and they told me it's possibly permissions-related (on the watch) and can only be fixed by an upcoming firmware update. However, their final definitive answer is still pending. They promised to contact me within a couple of days.
Hey,
I've recently talked to a Samsung tech and he said that this problem was a general issue with the Gear S2 at the moment (apparently server-related). There is no fix at the moment and they can't do anything. They've forwarded the problem (since it is already known) to the guys in Korea and they have to resolve this issue somehow, either with a software update or some server fix.
He furthermore told me that they don't even get noticed, whenever the Korean guys fix a problem, so I should just keep on trying the feature now and then.
Let's just hope, they won't take long
Update (2016-10-13): Works like a charm now, they seem to have fixed it.

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to let you know that Voice Input (STT) on my Gear S2 is now working again. I didn't do anything at all. I guess it was, in fact, a server-side issue that has now been resolved.
Let's know if it is working for you too.
Thanks to everyone for your contribution!
I'm hoping someone has come up with a solution. I've been experiencing this same issue for the past couple of weeks with my Gear S2. I've cleared out the cache history and I've even reverted to factory reset on the watch. Still, nothing. HELP!
I have a same priblem.. but even by cleare the cash nothing happend. It doesn't work yet.
Same here I have tried everything and it is so frustrating! One of the main reasons why I have a smartwatch is to be able to voice reply to messages.
Anybody found a solution yet?

Waze App

Good morning All.
So I am new to the forums so excuse my nervousness here. I have a odd question for those who already have this phone. Basically, I would like to know if the Waze app Galaxy S8+ operate fluidly? The reason that I ask is because when I had my Note 5 I would notice while I was using the app during the navigation mode it would skip as I was driving.
When I had the phone then I thought it was a firmware issue from the app or the phone it self, however that was not the case because they were both up to date at that present time. While researching I found out that I was not it was an issue with the Android OS.
I am very interested to know the answer to this thank you!

That's good to hear. I have just got a S8+ and never realised that AMOLED's suffer this as I've only ever had LCD phones.
Do you do anything other than change the car colour as I guess the orange icon to the right of the screen in the app could cause problems.
Do you set it to a certain brightness etc?

Gear S3 embarrasses me with RF security systems

Hello everyone. Greetings from Brazil!
I am going through a very embarrassing situation with my Gear S3 Classic: Every time I walk into (or worse: out of) a store that has one of those anti-theft tag security systems, the systems beeps, like if my watch was a stolen thing. I believe it may be related to the NFC or MST interfering with the detection system, but I also have a Galaxy S7 with both radios enabled and never ran into any problems.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anybody have a clue on what may be happening and how to stop it?
I have already tried to disable NFC in settings but it won't stop it from beeping. This thing is really annoying...
Thank you all in advance.

Then same problem?
Only to be sure no RFID Label or something else is inside...

That happened to me the other day in the mall and in some stand alone stores. I wasn't sure if it was the watch or the Note 8. I joked about stealing stuff on the way in the store.

It's strange for me that this is news because I've been using custom romsnfor so long that had this implementated. It's a good feature
I think the idle drain will be about the higher than without it (this is what I have noticed) but it's not massive so definitely a recent trade off if you like the service. I have a few Google homes and they all pick up my voice but then it knows from which device to reply from based on what's nearest to you.
I've used this mainly for turning on Bluetooth and setting navigation whilst driving. Also asking questions whilst driving that I want the answer to.

I doubt if custom roms would make any difference. I have used oneplus 1 and op3 but none of the custom roms for these devices had this feature.. Interesting point you made about multiple Google homes devices and the nearest one reverts back.. Didn't know this..
