Waze App - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Good morning All.
So I am new to the forums so excuse my nervousness here. I have a odd question for those who already have this phone. Basically, I would like to know if the Waze app Galaxy S8+ operate fluidly? The reason that I ask is because when I had my Note 5 I would notice while I was using the app during the navigation mode it would skip as I was driving.
When I had the phone then I thought it was a firmware issue from the app or the phone it self, however that was not the case because they were both up to date at that present time. While researching I found out that I was not it was an issue with the Android OS.
I am very interested to know the answer to this thank you!

Only used it once, but it seems to work fine

I use it daily and haven't had issues with it. Ive had my phone since wed, but had a S7 edge before that and no issues there either.

Great news. I know it seems like an odd question, but I use Waze more than any app on any devices that I have.

Waze work great in my galaxy s8 plus...

Daily use of Waze and zero issues.

I use Waze daily while on patrol. I used it on all the previous Android devices I have had and now on the S8+. I have had no issue with the production version.

That's good to hear. I have just got a S8+ and never realised that AMOLED's suffer this as I've only ever had LCD phones.
Do you do anything other than change the car colour as I guess the orange icon to the right of the screen in the app could cause problems.
Do you set it to a certain brightness etc?

I just let it run as is with auto brightness on. I'm in the same boat, this is my first AMOLED phone. I've had it about 3 months now and so far so good.

I'm using a mi band. It works without any problems. The mi app is ok-ish, unfortunately there is no way of using the mi band with other apps. For the price I'm quite satisfied.
The only problem is that the band seems to drain my battery much faster. I guess bluetooth LE is not fully implemented into the opo rom atm. The phone still survives a full day without problems. But before I was able to pull three days out of the battery when needed. The battery of the band is awesome though. The promised 30 days are not a lie.
Up24 works for me now. Had an issue with Up app messing up my GPS rendering Waze & Google navi inoperable. Downloaded AppOps from Playstore and turned off Up app location services and solved my problem.
Happy tracking.

Still same bad displays?

So my GALAXY S5 display after being replaced 2 times in 6 months started flickering. My phone is very hard to be turned on because of the green flickering.
I just want to upgrade to a S6,S7 Edge or non edge. i just want to know if they have the save problem with displays ? I want to have a phone at least 2 years, can you recommand me a phone like that ?
I was just considering switching to a iPhone even though i prefer android on phones ... how are S6,S7s displays ? Samsung still have the same problems or they have learned their lessons?
Because i still see on youtube flickering problems on S4,S5,S7,S6
I don't suppose it is something common. I have s7 for 6 months but I haven't encountered with such an issue.
I've had an s5 for year and a half, and my dad is using it now, so it's being used more than 2 years and it works flawlessly. Currently I'm on s7 and also no flickering. That isn't a common issue I think.

My problem with s5 gets worse on cold wather.
So there are very small chances to have problema with display on the newer devices?

OK Google.. with screen off.. A good feature that's Working :)

Honestly, I never thought ok google would work with screen off for non pixel devices... But it works for OP6.. Just tried it..
This helps in unlocking the phone will driving and directly making calls..
Apologies if you already knew this before but it's kinda new for me.. Just thought of sharing this with anyone who is like me...
Thanks for sharing. Can you share the settings steps for it.

Sure. It's fairly simple
Settings...google...search... Voice... Voice match.. (train assistant with your voice by saying ok google and hey google as per on screen instructions) and that's it..
Lock ur phone and try saying ok google.. It will unlock
Cheers
This is awesome.

Hahaha.. Probable solution would be to use a pair of earphones with mic and whisper.. Okay google..
Thanks ! I never used Google Assistant, but I may try if it is so easy...provided the permanent listening does not eat battery ! By the way, any changes in battery drain when using this feature ?

It's strange for me that this is news because I've been using custom romsnfor so long that had this implementated. It's a good feature
I think the idle drain will be about the higher than without it (this is what I have noticed) but it's not massive so definitely a recent trade off if you like the service. I have a few Google homes and they all pick up my voice but then it knows from which device to reply from based on what's nearest to you.
I've used this mainly for turning on Bluetooth and setting navigation whilst driving. Also asking questions whilst driving that I want the answer to.

I doubt if custom roms would make any difference. I have used oneplus 1 and op3 but none of the custom roms for these devices had this feature.. Interesting point you made about multiple Google homes devices and the nearest one reverts back.. Didn't know this..

My oneplus 8 is just fine and it really seems to be that the pro has far far more issues. There's a few complaints about the normal 8 but not even close to as many as the pro

Nope. It's a very crisp high refresh rate screen. I've done extensive testing to make sure it's not an issue. I have the network unlocked variant not the verizon one.

I strongly suggest you get an exchange for that. They'll do it no questions asked. You're chances are very very good that the next one will not have that issue at all.

Could be one of the adaptive battery settings; known troublemakers. This feature though has eluded me for over a year on the 10+ And not a clue why even after spending a bunch of time playing with it

I tried that apk on the 10+ running on Pie, no joy and that apk itself was a real bloody pain.... grrrrr.
For whatever reason(s) edge lighting has never worked. I could try playing with it again... last couple times were a waste of time.
Probably a apk conflict or settings issue but I never found it... meh.
OP, Thanks for reminding me of this gremlin
Hope you find a solution here as it may backwards applicable.

Lol, that's reassuring. A long history of fail.
I just looked over my settings and it should be active.
Damned if I see it anymore (it works for a couple days once, long, long ago).
I reset it to factory load, the only possible option left; no power management is active.
I'll double check my blocked apks just for amusement.
Guess I'll wait and see if this takes:laugh:

Guess it could be one of the mystery apks under Android Services sucking battery though.

I have something like 86 blocked apks now. All but 6 or so of those are never needed. Lol, less run time, less trouble.
Sometimes with new apps I'll block them until I sort them out or throw them out.
