Screen randomly stays black durning or after calls. - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I have had this pixel since feb 22nd and since new while on a call when I pull the phone from my face the screen will stay off. Its a very rare bug and I have only seen a good dozen times. I have spent hours testing the proxy sensor while watching movies and can't see any issues with it. I have only seen this while in the phone dialer app. Has anyone seen this problem and know if its a hardware or software issue. I have taken a bug report and if someone smarter than I can tell me more that would be great.
here is the bug report.

do you think I should try a reflash of the OS, I've never done anything to this device.

Camera and Speaker Problems

I seem to be having some random hardware issues with my nexus 5. I've had it for about fourteen months with no problems, but in the last couple of weeks I've started having problems with the camera and the speaker.
About 40% of the time the camera works fine. 50% of the time the camera app fails with a "can't connect to the camera" error. The remaining 10% of the time, the camera app starts, but the image shown on screen is all one color, or it does the normal preview overlayed with bands of flashing colors. If I take a picture when it does the bands of color, the band of color are stored in the picture.
The speaker is about 50/50 as to whether it works or not. When the speaker is not working nothing works. No ringtones. No notifications. No touch sounds. No music. It will cut out and in during play sometimes. The other day when someone called, it finally started ringing in the middle of the ringtone. I once heard a single note in the middle of a notification.
Rebooting sometimes fixes both problems, but it's not a gauraunteed fix. I've tried several different ROMs including both stock Kit Kat and Lollipop, as well as others. The problem persists in all ROMs.
Anyone seem this before? It seems like it almost has to be a hardware issue because it persists their multiple ROMs.

The camera error is due to something else using the camera HAL (or something using it but then not releasing it properly afterwards). Culprits range from torch applications (which use the camera HAL to trigger a continuous flash) or various social media apps (video calls, instant photo sharing). I don't use anything of the sort, I only use my camera as a camera, and I don't have such issues - whereas the people that get this error almost always use such apps.
Your speaker issue could be a hardware issue if it happens regardless the software. Have you ever dropped your device or given it excessive shock?

I had the same camera problem as you, no amount of clean wiping etc helped so I contacted Google and got an RMA, this is bearing in mind that I bought my phone in Nov 13.
I received a "refurbished" phone, but it was actually brand new and now it's working great.

You were right about the Camera! My problem was the Google Messenger app. I removed it, and went back to the Kit Kat AOSP messenger app, and my camera has worked since.
One problem down, but I am still having the intermittent sound issue. My phone has been dropped and banged around some. Nothing significant that I can think of recently, but that is certainly a possibility. Truthfully, I can live with the sound problem a lot easier than the camera problem.
After a few weeks of no sound and no camera, I've finally solved the problem. I took my phone apart, and cleaned it out with compressed air. I polished up the contact points on all the spring type contacts to the back of the case. I put it back together and everything is working!
I seem to be having a very similar problem. If I just lightly touch the 'S' of the nexus logo on the back cover, the speaker kicks in. Let go, and it cuts out. But before I open it up, (hate doing this), looking at all the break down pics of the nexus 5, I don't see any contacts related to the speaker? The speaker is apparently a single unit at the bottom of the phone? Can anyone explain the contact points for the speaker as it relates to the back cover especially around the center of the phone?? Thank, much appreciated.

Oneplus 6 - Unresponsive Screen (Video Included)

I've had the phone since the day it came out. It took me a while to notice but the screen is definitely unresponsive at times. It is actually difficult to notice because, if you are like me and spend hours on your phone every day, if every so often if a touch doesn't register, your brain automatically make you repeat the gesture and you don't even think about it. And, it's OK if it happens like once a day. But with this phone, it's hundred times a day. I thought I was crazy so I recorded a video with my OP5.
See here: https://imgur.com/a/lZS4eVP
OK so this is kind of a very bad occurrence. Usually, it's not always like that. Sometimes it works perfectly fine. I also wonder if this could be the reason why the double tap to wake is also inconsistent, when the screen is off.
Also, yes, I do have a screen protector, but I've had them on all my phones and never had an issue.
Looks like this is happening only with you, is this problem occurring only in specific apps? or globally..
The touch here works snappy and very responsive. Maybe a faulty device? report to service center, I guess.
I also noted unresponsive screen once in a while while trying to click some hyperlinks or items with small clickable icons. But it's not anywhere close to what your video showed. Best and fair thing to do would be: Fresh flash the stock rom, don't install any additional apps then see if the problem persists. If it does, time to call customer service for a replacement unit. Good luck!
I've had similiar issues with my Essential PH-1, turns out it was a defect in the digitizer and I was RMA'd on it.
Nope working great here.
Do I get a new phone if I rma it? Or refurbished?
No I get this sometimes as well. Not nearly as bad as shown in your video, but sometimes it just doesn't register the touch properly and you have to touch it harder for it to register. Or when scrolling it only registers the scrolling partially
i have same problem in the same position
It happens to me sometimes when I tap the screen (for example tapping on a contact in whatsapp) that the screen doensn't respond good. When I tap a few times more and with a little more pressure it's going well. (I didn't test without the factory applyed screen protector)
Do people who have this problem use gestures? For me, the problem also occurs (no reaction when I tap the hyperlink or a small icon) but I noticed that it only occurs when the gestures are on. Maybe there is a problem.

Display turns on during call and camera shmoothes faces everytime

Hey I noticed two annyoing bugs.
While on a phone call and holding the phone at my right ear, the display keeps turning on and off.
No matter which settings, the camera app smoothes every recognized face and over exposers the background. If you make a front camera test in the support app, you can see that it works better there.
Has anyone the same issues? Found a few xperia users on reddit with the same issue but I'm not sure if sony will do anything until enough people complained. I already reported both bugs to the support and hope they will release an update.
I've had several calls muted/hung up because the phone decided to turn on the screen just like that yeah it's annoying...
For the camera, I've noticed smoothing but since I'm not a selfie person myself it does not bother me that much. Did you try using Open Camera, is it improved?
I noticed the same issue with the display switching on and off rapidly during a call
I have also found that during phone calls the screen comes on and I end up muting calls or putting someone on call waiting.
Its also very annoying that all selfies have the smoothing setting turned off with no apparent way to turn it off.
Hope you guys reported the issues too or Sony won't do anything.
It's really annoying and I never saw a phone with bugs like that. A simple call dosen't work as it should, functions can't be disabled ....
This is fixed in the newest update which was released today: 58.0.A.22.21

Mi Note 10 Lite screen flickering at max brightness or when prompt for fingerprint

A few days ago I have encountered the screen flickering. It looks similar to what is being shown on this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvywd5e2G6I&ab_channel=zamoneyOmar
The fading and white flickering only occur on the main screen and right side of the raindrop notch. After a few trying out and testing, i realized this only occur when the screen is adjusted to around 90% brightness or when the phone prompt for fingerprint verification (ie. lockscreen as fingerprint prompting will max the brightness on the sensor portion of the screen).
During normal usage the screen seems normal with no fading or flickering. But if I turn on the Anti-flickering mode (DC dimming), the screen will be in constant flickering or fading no matter if the screen is on max brightness. Therefore, does any mi note 10/note 10 lite user have this issue?

Hello, i have the same issue, but i want to know if it's a software issue or hardware issue. I just got the phone last month and it's on MIUI 12.0.3 stable

That implies me that flickering caused by the refresh rate, not the dimming.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I'm experiencing it as well
I am also facing the similar type of issue on my new Note 10 pro max.
guys, i went back to the youtube thread and this guy had a temporary fixed.

GUYS I GOT A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. I was facing this issue for almost 2 months and I almost sold my Mi Note 10. But today I tried something that worked for me. There's an app called "LCD BURN IN WIPER" (The icon is white with a smartphone inside). First thing to know: The screen of my Mi Note 10 was flickering just like in this video only when I had to use my fingerprint or when the brightness was in high level. There was two stripes, one in each side of the notch (one was white and the other was black) and this was driving me crazy because the left side was getting black, then it was backing to normal after a few minutes of usage. So I started to noticed that when the screen was on for a long period of time, things was getting back to "normal" There's when the app enters in the equation. I thought that if I used a program to force the colors on the screen, maybe it would come back to normal. So what I did was: #1- I downloaded this app #2- I put the brightness at 100% and it was flickering like crazy but I could still see the "start button" to run the app #3- Let it run 30 minutes yesterday and the screen stopped flickering for a few seconds then it went back to flicker... So I tried today for 2hr in a roll and for my surprised MY MI NOTE 10 IS BACK TO NORMAL! NO FLICKERING, NO PROBLEM WITH FINGERPRINT, NO STRIPES ON THE NOTCH, NO BLACK LEFT SIDE... Hope this app can help you the way it did to my Mi Note 10.
- i tried it and the upper right screen on my phone was fixed. i'll continue using it using low light and with finger print. i'll send some updates after a few weeks. also my phone is out of warranty, anyone knows how much it cost to replace the screen if thats the problem?
Any fix? Ive been reading. Says it has to do with update or screen refresh rate.. Help please. the top right area is not showing. Then now screen is flickering. Help pleaseeeee
same problem as in video for me too. I found many complaints on this issue in other forums as well.
it seems like a software issue as everyone say it's after some update.
tried tips that worked for some with no success -
deactivate blue light, dc dimming/anti flicker, fingerprint lock, auto brightness, always on display - these help with the flashing and flickering, but the notch area is still messed up and battery is draining very fast.
will try the tips from the youtube comment.
if anyone finds a fix, please share, thanks!
EDIT - the youtube fix did not help.
The problem i encounter that bug me for so many months has been resolve randomly. Not very sure what is the cause of the fix but it was definitely not OS update as i did not have any OS update when the fix occurred. It could be one of the system app updated and solve the issue.
Has anyone figured about this issue. What could be the cause. I also ran into this problem. Right side of notch was blacout and I havent even dropped the phone.
I figure it is probably the app Theme in System Apps. When I first encounter (Nov 2020) it my phone had an update for Theme. I tired uninstalled the update, delete its cache but nothing solve the issue and i assume it was mere coincidence that Theme just happened to update when the issue arise.
Around 1 month ago this issue suddenly just disappeared and when I look back at the update history on System App, Theme has received a new update. Theme has multiple update in between the duration and this update a month ago kind of just fix the issue.
My phone is Mi Note 10 Lite with Mi Global 12.5.1 Stable 12.5.1.0(RFNMIXM) and the Theme update that solve the issue is 1.6.5.5-global updated on 8 Jun 2021. Recently the issue appear once only after 1.6.6.2-global on 8 July 2021 but has yet to appear again.
Hope that helps.

I also think it is due to the mi theme app. I remembered that the theme app was updated the morning and the evening time when I tried to play the game I noticed the notch was blacked out. I hope mine also gets fixed with the updates.
It was also happening on my Mi note 10. I remember July 10 (could be earlier) I updated Themes app and Clock. That Night I notice there's a delay screen on my notifications bar. This August when I updated my Themes app, it's got worsen. I notice flickering white bright light when auto brightness at max level as well as when using fingerprint censor.
Anyone has a fix now?
i have been facing this issue on and off for months. today this reappeared and is worse than ever. any solutions guys?

thank you. unfortunately if i have antiflicker on, all hell lets loose. screens flickers like crazy. i too have fingerprint disabled for unlocking phone. still when i press the power button, screens flickers for a while, then turns black. and no always on display which is vital for me. i have it enabled but after all the flickering it doesnt work.
i have the problem for some time. and it always fixes itself all of a sudden. as if there is some silent uupdate that addresses it. problem usually lasts for a day or two. no more. but this is the worse iteration of the problem so far... i am desperate

after enabling anti flicker it may take some time. if it didnt worked you can enable disbale the anti flicker for some loop.
also you mentioned it fixes itself. does the notch screen work when you said it gets fixed itself?

enabling or disabling the antiflicker, fixes nothing. once this was fixed (in the past, because i am still facing the problem for a day and a half now, the longer i had it, shoudl be fixed....) the part of teh screen where the camera notch was, works.
but now, nothing.... this is outragous. and knowing it is a software problem, makesme so angry....
long post ahead.
i thought i was the only one experiencing this issue and im using mi note 10.
got the phone dec 2019, my issue started last year and same as the others i think it was somehow related to themes. i dont really recall if it was the same day with an update to just themes or the system UI itself but i do remember it happened after an update.
my phone crashed while i was playing a game and after i restarted the issue with the notch appeared. the screen also started flickering but it was still going back to normal. after a few days the issue with the flickering worsened just like the one in the video and took me some time to recognize it was the brightness level.
ive done the suggested fixes even resetting my phone back to default but it aint fixing itself so i just learned to live with my screen brightness almost all the way down. its just really difficult to view what's on the screen when outside.
however, no new updates on the phone but my screen is really getting worse and im afraid that i will not be able to use it in a few days time. just a day or two ago without changing anything to my usual setting, the screen showed lines like the ones you'd see on a broken TV. a few restart set it back to normal but earlier today here's how it looks. i tried again to clear some items and cache and restart but i still get the same screen. only tonight that i was able to get it back to my normal one but it goes back and forth to this screen after a few minutes.
im thinking of doing another reset but i dont really think it will fix this.

Same problem here, anyone tryed install the original stock rom before de updates? or Custom roms. Regards.
I turned on anti flicker mode and it actually fixed it. Just had to wait a few minutes after turning it on and the notch is visible, and no more flickering. But I still turn off always on display, fingerprint and keep the brightness down just in case it.

Android Auto issues on ColourOS11

Ever since updating to ColourOS11, android auto has been freezing on me when the screen is off however activating the screen will unfreeze it.
Is anyone else experiencing this or if anyone knows a fix besides 30m screen timeout.
The issue's been mentioned on a couple of other threads, from what I've read it seems to be a Android 11 issue in general, not just limited to Oppo / ColorOS. Haven't seen a way to fix this so far, seems like one has to wait for an update to fix it and until then keep the screen on...

Yea I had a look through some other threads. Turning off AOD and Fingerprint while screen off seems to somewhat work abiet still glitchly. Been in contact with Oppo who seems to only want me to send the phone into the service centre but I am waiting for Christmas break to be over and send it then otherwise hopefully a update by then but doubts.
I just had the issue, but by leaving it plugged in and letting the connection time out, it reset and connected. Took about a minute.
I finally got the ColorOS 11 update and now Android Auto is having this issue. Really rather annoying as I've only just got a new car and had Android Auto so was enjoying it!
Basically same issue where the car screen just locks up until you unlock the phone screen (i still get audio prompts for directions in google maps etc so Android Auto is still running). Seems to be a standoff between the OEM's and Google. Looking at other forums some OnePlus phones have the same issue (BBK group thing perhaps!)

I solved this issue going into developer options and activating the "keep screen on while charging" mode. The display will remain on, but with a very low brightness level.
