On rooted 5.1.1 the battery life sucks, as well as it gets quiet hot, idk how I stopped the heat issue, a combo of flashing it enough times while testing marshmallow and other things. BUT battery life was tremendously increased when I added the line 'ro.opa.eligible_device=true' to build.prop, I don't know why this increases battery life, but for me it did. Hope this helps.

So this is probably a big issue with most people is how fast the battery drains.
I'll get right to the point. I swap roms like I change my underwear... every couple of weeks... ( that was a joke...) basically every day. What I've noticed is what happens to my battery after swapping roms it tends to read the battery life incorrect. EVEN after a battery stat wipe.
I charge my phone to 100%. Let it drain until it gives me a battery warning. (which is usually below 15%) then I remove the back cover and just yank the battery ( I know there are risks of doing this but I've done it a TON and never had any issues)
Funny thing is though, right after I pull the battery and then replace and reboot the phone, my 15% battery life left... is now a crazy 25%-30% left!
So android is reading the battery level incorrect. (even after a battery stat wipe)
Anyways after putting the battery back in, i'll charge it to 100%, then use the phone as needed from then on I have NO issue with battery life and it usually lasts me 15+ Hours with moderate to heavy usage IE: games, browsing, music, Facebook, etc.
Let me know if this drastically improves or at least improves your battery AT ALL like it does for me...
Pretty common in most 1st posts for rom threads and a general calibration method. Thanks for sharing anyway

Well according to the 10+ battery issue threads I highly doubt its "common" for people to actually do it. So for those who are looking for something other than stupid apps that claim to "re-calibrate" your battery, or battery stats which claim to "reset" your battery which in my experience really doesn't solve anything, its just one more thing to add to the "hell, lets see if it'll work" option.
Errrrmm... This is not the fix. Battery reading jumps up after reboot, as reported by hundreds of users (including me) and then depletes rather quickly to real value.
Running MOAR 8.0, I am getting days of great battery life, then occasionally the battery dies within a few hours, dropping quickly. The strange thing is that the battery gets warm to the touch when fast drain occurs, but is cool under normal circumstances. I have three different batteries, and thought it might be a battery issue, but the same thing happens on any one of the three batteries. Anyone else experience this sudden fast drain?
Hello,
I've searching for like 2 months about problems with battery life and Lollipop with nexus 5. I understand the issues but since it was released, i never had much problems with it. I used to have 2h SOT for like 40% battery or so.
My daily routine allowed me to reach home with a bit more than 50% battery with 2h SOT more or less. (a lot of messaging on viber/whatsapp)
But something changed since 1 and half months ago. I can no longer do the same and it seems that i have a CONSTANT battery drain. I remember when i unplugged my phone i would reach my workplace (1:30h after unplug) i would have like 2-4% less battery depending on the usage. Currently when i get out of home the battery is already at like 92% or more depending on the usage. If i let the phone stay idle all the time, i usally get home with 30-40% battery now. I'm already thinking that my battery has gone bad. This started to happen from one day to another and i never let the battery stay too much below 30% usually, but nowadays it's impossible to predict the battery life since some days it seems to drain more than others.
I've used some apps to monitor the usage but i really don't understand much about it and can't seem to find a pattern. I've already did factory reset with all Lollipop versions and i remember doing a KK regression for some hours but the drain seemed like it was still there (can't use KK on my nexus 5 anyway, it feels weird after Lollipop experience ) but i didn't even fully charged the battery as i remember. Anyway if it would be an app, there should be some kind of logging in battery stats which doesn't, and i can't think about anything else.
I finally gave up and decided to ask help here, since i don't know what else to do. I'm actually leaning towards getting a nexus 6 but after reading about so many issues (screen/battery life/burn-in) i'm not sure what else i can do with my nexus 5.
If anyone can give me a hint i'd be very grateful
PS: already tried Cataclysm ROM and using currently ElementalX kernel. I notice a bit better battery life with ElementalX but i think the pictures speak for themselves.
Judging by that constant drain with very little shown awake time I'd install Better Battery Stats and check for kernel wakelocks. I had a similar situation with a wake lock from using a wireless charger that did not show in the regular battery stats.

i already installed it before, but currently don't have it installed. I have Wakelock Detector app i can post a screenshot if helps
Installed Better Battery Stats, i'll post results tomorrow (battery at 19% already).
As promised, there's still some battery left but i didn't even use the phone today mostly... in days like these i should be over 70% as usual or maybe close to 80% that i remember.
Can't seem to find the cause
bump i guess
will some full discharge cycles fix this ? iirc that can make things worse.
I feel your pain...when I was on Kitkat, I'd get to work running just Waze and Pandora and my battery life would be at 80%. Installed Lollipop 5.1 and now half way through my trip (15 minutes of use) the phone shuts down with a dead battery. Maybe it's just a coincidence that my battery decided to give up the ghost at the same time I install 5.1, but I find that very odd...the phone is only a 1.5 years old...lithium battery's tend to last 2+ years and even then they don't fall off a cliff in terms of capacity. At this point I think I'll buy a new battery and see what happens, LG OEM are about $25 on Amazon.
I had this problem before I flashed the ROM, but that was several years ago so I can't compare between now and then, but it is clear that my device drains battery abnormally fast. I would say it lasts about 2.30 hours and it gets very hot over time.
To give a perspective, the miscellaneous battery drain went from 33% to 71%
Granted, I was installing new apps during that time, but I still don't see why it should drain so much, especially when it is miscellaneous that drains the most.
Buddy! You got a rom on there for just 4 hours! Way too soon to tell anything about battery usage and forget the on board battery statistics. Might as well read your coffee grounds...
Plus, tons of stuff is going on in the background after flashing a rom, indexing is one of them, AND Katshmallow is overclocked which makes the tablet run on the hot side anyway and eats battery. That's the price to pay for speed.....
Run it for a week, install Battery Battery Stats, maybe Wakelock Detector too, then we can talk about battery drain....
I got XZ3 about several days ago and has been struggling with bad battery life.
I was shocked by its battery life which is way worse than my previous device, XZ1.
But I think I found the cause of it.
As soon as I turned off ambient display feature, the battery life improved dramatically.
I'm still in process of 2nd timing of battery life but so far, with this ambient display off, the battery lasts at least 1.5 times more.

I have it set to Smart Activation and can get a little around 5 hours SoT. With it always on, I got around 4. Might as well try turning it off and seeing if its improved or not.

All these OEM features is known to be battery leechers.
I'm recommending to turn em' off for overall battery life reasons.
