When I connect my external HD to my s8plus it says it's corrupted and wants me to format it. I know that this drive is not corrupted over used on my laptop and my nexus 6. Both my wife and I have gotten these phones I put a as cars in mine but not here and both s8plus say same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok I need help I can't get my phone to charge or mount my SD card on my computer.. I have ubuntu studio, I never had any problems till a few weeks ago. I now thought it was the ics ROM I was running so I went back to gb and a sence ROM. Still no connection. Yes usb debugging is on. And toggled it many times, and fast boot on power setting toggled it too many times. I am now pulling my SD card out then putting in my card reader to work at this time.. Any help would be a great help. Thanks

Is it only when you use your computer? It could be the data cable is messed up or the USB port on your PC is messed up.

Tried different cables and usb and computers also. No charge or SD mount. But can charge off wall plug
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Hmmm.... so you cant get it to mount to any computer. I hate to say it but it sounds like a hardware issue. Almost like one of the pins is broken that reads the connection for data use.

I install the usb connector and insert a usb memory and copy some files, everything works fine. Until the next time I want to do it. Then the connector is recognized but the usb memory is not. Inserting it revokes no response from the system. I'm forced to reboot in order to see the memory stick again. I always tap the memory stick reminder in the notification bar before removing it. Does anyone else encounter the same problem?

I don't generally have an issue but I'm not rooted.
Is it formatted as fat32 or exfat?
There was an app in a post just like this one that someone recommended to help with this issue.
Issue noted in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033084&highlight=usb+memory
.
I'm not rooted, stock all the way. I'll have to check the USB stuck since I'm not sure what the formatting is, but I believe I formatted it on my Win 7 laptop and that may default to exfat.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk HD
Nope, a lot actually default to NTFS...
Did you just rip it out of the note or stop the usb drive from inside settings>storage usb drive>unmount? This may make a difference...
I unmounted it, but from the notification bar, the system responded by saying that the stick was safely removed. Could it be the OTG adapter? I use the one I got with my GT-P3113 but they are both Samsung tablets and it is recognized when inserted.
Should mention that I use the usbstock in my Transformer without any problems so I doubt that it is the formatting.

It is a 64 GB USB memory stick. Buffalo from Japn, but made in China.
Works like a charm on my ASUS Transformer.

OTG host cable support for input devices on Jelly Bean is spotty. As was noted in the Google Code forums in January, Google has now modified it's Nexus specs page to drop references to OTG, BT support now is the only method mentioned for attaching devices. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41206
I have a galaxy note 10.1 model number gt-n8013. I bought a usb adapter for it. When I plug the adapter in to the note it tells me "usb connecter connected" however when I plug a usb drive nothing happens. It literally is like I did not plug anything in. The drive is not found in my file manager. I have tried several usb thumbdrives and they are all the same. I have tried fat32 and ntfs formats. According to samsung they should be in fat32. I have tried stickmount and a 3rd party file manager as well with no luck.
Last week I went in to best buy and talked with their samsung people and the geek squad. We tried everything we could think of and 1 hour later still no luck. I am at a loss for what to do.
My device is not rooted. Would a difderent rom allow me to mount a usb drive? The device is supposed to be able to mount one already but it is not working.
Any help is very much appreciated!

Hey guys, im planning on buying an usb stick and of course i will use it on my nexus 5 too. I am thinking of this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AXWOLO6/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
But i don't know if 64 gb is supported by Usb OTG, has someone tried or can try and come back to me?
Edit: It worked, if anyone is wondering.

How are you powering the harddrive?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Via its usb 3.0 connection, there is no way to connect an additional power source, it's a portable drive so there is no additional power source

Ok. Its just that unlike Samsung galaxy s3 (onwards) the nexus 5 cannot power mechanical drives through its USB host port. I expect you'd need a powered USB hub to power and use a mechanical drive.

Would a third party Rom like cyanogen make the drive work? Or is it a hardware issue?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hardware as far as I know. The S3 was the first that could do this without external power. Not all devices follow suit. Mechanical parts require a lot of power compared to flash

So any size usb stick or a external drive with its own power source. I'm using a 128gb stick.

I can't say if there's a limit on mechanical drives or not.

Its built-in all ready. After rooting all you need is an app like stickmount. Or if you change rom most of them have the software you need allready in there.

Is your drive in NTSF format? Android only recognizes FAT32. Try a drive formatted as FAT32 and see what happens.
I am using my 1TB WD harddrive(ntfs).
It works fine with StickMount. I never needed external power source.
But it eats the battery extremely fast at almost 1%-2% per minute.
But the USB-Y cable should work fine for powering usb hard drive.

@yuepc000 - I don't have a drive.
While not as good as having an SD slot - this could be of some help. I'm sure you wouldn't leave it hanging all the time and most likely have to remove it to charge if your not using wireless charging.

I opted for the 64 GB version ... just to save from extra equipment. But there is a wireless flash drive option too.

I promise I'm not griefing but rather curious.... I am extremely satisfied with the 100 gigs of storage you get with OneDrive when you buy the Note 5. Any of my large files I have put in the cloud or if they are videos I either upload them to social media or put them on my PC for editing and don't forsee an issue with the 32 gigs of onboard storage. I guess I'm just wondering what sort of data an SD device like this accounts for due to a lack of expandable memory.
