I bought a case from Luvvitt for the S+ Plus and it arrived yesterday. I held the case in my hand and it's definitely smaller across than the LG V20 which I cannot reach across with my thumb when I'm holding it in one hand. Yes, this may all be obvious, but didn't I read that the S8+ had a 6.2" display? Am I missing something about the screen size or phone size that I'm not understanding? I put the case up against the LGV20 and it's not that much bigger than the V20 I have now which is 5.7". I am glad the S8 Plus is narrower, which will make it easier to use one-handed, but the length seems odd to me.
The s8+ is slightly shorter than the V20 and thinner. This is due to the screen aspect ratio.

The s8+ is almost 5mm narrower, the screen is bigger because its a taller screen, its not 16:9 anymore like the v20 but 18.5:1

I was reading about screen aspect ratio, way too much math. I gave up.
Bigger screen in a small foot print..
The s8+ is slimer and taller the most phones.
I remeber having my s7 edge and note 7. The note felt smaller even tho the screen was a bit bigger.

We cannot use inches as a measurement anymore on these kinds of phones (mi mix, LG g6, Samsung s8/s8+)
Yes it's 6.2" diagonally, but it doesn't matter anymore since it's not 16:9
Due to the aspect ratio it has way less screen realestate compared to other phones using the traditional 16:9 width/height .
Without going into math i can tell you basically it's not like a "regular" 6.2" phone. Using it will be more similar to a 5.7"ish phone in terms of stuff you can have on screen and the width of the phone.
Let nobody tell you different: This is NOT the same as a "normal" 6.2" phone. It doesn't NOT give you a 6.2" phone experience.
This still isn't necessarily bad, you'll get the nicest screen in existence and a phone you can handle with one hand. It's just not comparable to a 6+" phone.

Actually being that tall basically kills your chance for one handed use of things like the notification area and/or indeed reaching the navigation buttons, no?
This is a phablet through and through. The last trully one handed phone Samsung made was S4 ... since then then they breached the 140x70mm "barrier" and we get (got?) devices that are bigger than phones yet smaller than phablets. S8 made the transition to the phablet form almost exclusively.
And I mean that's OK, people want more information at once, ease of use is secondary to that. Apple made a fortune merely by adding 0.7 inches to her phone. But -yeah- one handed use went the way of the dodo , we occasionally use it but only for few things. We mostly use our ... pocketable tablets two handed these days.

Depends on the size and flexibility of your hands as well as where you chose to grip the phone. I use my V20 one handed all the time and its physically a bigger phone. I'm only slightly taller than average.

I assume you're a man. Being taller than average for a man means that you're the 25th percentile (at least 75% of people are smaller than you) so even if true you'd be a minority. However I doubt is true as it is physically impossibly to reach all 4 corners without constantly adjusting your grip. You probably do have some limited one-handed use, but that's not what I mean. Lastly s8+ has a far taller screen than V20, so even if you were somehow able to reach both upper and lower corners without adjusting your grip, you most possibly wouldn't be able to do the same with S8+

The video you linked is not how I hold my phone, the manner in which they hold it is to emphasize their marketing shill, ie if you hold a phone like that you can barely use a tiny phone one handed. Like I said, it depends on where you grip the phone.
All you said was accessing navigation buttons and notification area, which I can easily do 1 handed. I'm not going to one handed type out text or do heavy surfing, but I can quickly check notifications or do light activity one handed with ease. Your refusal to believe me does not change the fact that I can operate the V20 and the S8+ in the manner in which you specified. Next time qualify your ridiculous claims with something more concrete.

I don't refuse to believe you, especially since you just accepted that your one handed use is partial, that is exactly what I expected.
One handed phones can do everything in one hand. Motorola Moto X was like that, the first iphones were like that and to those with bigger fingers Galaxy S4 was that ... after that mostly chaos.
S8+ is quite taller than V20, so even partial one handed use is impossible for most people. Which is what I said in my initial post. If they wanted one handed use they should at least tried a more reasonable aspect ratio.

I meant the screen is taller. Even if the device is shorter your fingers have to reach further hence why it is harder to operate despite being a smaller device in overall footprint.
I just received a case for my s8+ and it's about the same height and norrower than my v20.

I was following the live blog today on the new Razrs, as I was with Verizon and wanted one when they came out, but moved to ATT and got the Skyrocket instead. Which I have not to this day regretted, as it is the most complete package in a phone I have owned. So much so that i have felt little desire to upgrade to anything new, including the GS3. Especially including the GS3, which seems to follow this new trend of incremental design and feature upgrades.
I've been waiting for some entirely new feature to catch my attention, as NFC and SAMOLED and actually usable cameras did before. The edge to edge rumors really piqued my interest, as I have recently been struggling to understand the need for the top and bottom bezels to be so large, especially since ICS and up has on screen navigation keys which are, to me, exactly the kind of intuitive and unique feature Android should be shooting to incorporate across the range.
Anyhow... the Razr M's Edge to Edge screen is not impressing me. I compared bezels and it appears only slightly smaller than our skyrocket's bezels, not to mention still having that pointless bezel up top and bottom. Any opinions?
On a side note that new iPhone screen looks rediculous. Let's copy Android's 16:9 ratio but leave the gigantic bezels that Android doesn't even exaggerate that much anymore. Or Since 2011.

No side-bezel is stupid because everytime you pick up your phone you'll be tapping something. Also, top/bottom bezel is important.. not useless. There's a camera, microphone, speaker, and light sensors there.
Edge to edge screen......very interesting, only thing is the top and bottom bezel is required for proximity sensor and other sensors as well as camera.The onscreen capacitive buttons doesn't sound that bad but I like them off the screen. Just personal preference.

I used to have an SII, and then jumped on the large screen bandwagon (after using it in a store) thinking it wouldn't affect me much. Fast forward one year after my Note II's purchase, if there is one thing I want in my next phone, it is to be able to use it with one hand easily.
One handed usage - Reach all points on a phone, including all the navigational buttons without shuffling or moving the phone in your hands.
Now I have already tried the S4, and I couldn't use it with one hand (Mind you, I have average sized hands, it's just not easy to do it).
My questions are for those of you who have used these devices:
1. How does one handed usage compare between the Nexus 5 and S4? Is it a huge difference?
2. How does one handed usage compare between the Nexus 5 and HTC One? Is it a huge difference?
3. How does one handed usage compare between the Nexus 5 and G2? Is it a huge difference?
P.S. I will try the Nexus 5 in stores, though it's going to be some time before it comes in stores here.
UPDATE: I tried out the HTC One and it is possible for me to use it. But even a bit bigger would be impossible. I am more concerned about how the sharp edges of the Nexus 5 make it harder to use.

I know you didn't list it, but I previously used an HTC One (similarly sized to the S4), and I have large hands. I can use the N5/One with one hand, but I wouldn't call it "comfortable," in fact I'd call it precarious, as in order for me to reach the notification drawer with my thumb, I have to rest the phone on the remaining four fingers and reach upward with my thumb. I never use the phone one handed when not sitting down or stable.

The main one for me is to be able to use it with one hand in bed while looking at the ceiling. I think that is possible with the HTC One if I install navigational buttons (I don't care for real estate, one handed use is much more important to me).
I think the Nexus 5 is great to use one handed, the bottom bezel actually provides a nice area to hold, and the phone is easy to balance.
The HTC One has a slightly smaller screen than the S4, I think. Both are comfortable to reach the whole screen, but the One is more comfortable to hold in general due to its curved shape and tapered edges.
The G2/N5 are built on very smilar specs. I would guess they use the exact same screen panel. A 5 inch screen is a bit too big for my tastes. I could use them with my hands- average size but with longer versatle fingers that are good for manipulating devices- but it wouldn't be preferable. Plus, fitting such a large phone in my pocked would be a pain.
Of the choices you list, I would suggest the S4. I own the One, and recommend that above the S4. HTC really picked up their game since the old EVO days...

Wait, what?!
I can tell you this - much harder to do than my N4, about the same as a Galaxy S3.
It is however manageable, and the curved back helps.
Once I stick it in my Spigen Slim Armor, it becomes a challenge for me, no way I can reach all points on screen one handed.
I do use my N5 with one hand on my way home from work. It is possible. But I need to move the phone in my hands in order to reach the top (e.g. address bar of browser) and the bottom (navigation keys) of the screen. This is dangerous because you can drop the phone if your are not very careful.
The width of the phone is not a problem for me.
I do not want to miss the large screen of the N5. But I am now 100% certain that I do not want an even larger phone.

Can you compare it to Nexus 4, S4, S3, or G2?
Getting to the top isn't easy even with big hands. Which is why I HAVE NO IDEA why so many devs put their bars AT THE TOP OF APPS.
Anyway, might go back and try out Nova launcher so i can swipe down for notficiation bar as Google refuses to implement gestures.

the swiftkey keyboard just got an update that includes a 'compact keyboard' that pushes it to one side or the other. at first I laughed at such a feature, i mean it looks out of place. but i think it's a very good feature for people who like the large screens but want to only use one hand to type

I don't have problems with the width. I have problems with the height.
I tell you its much easier to wield one handed then my previous Note 2. I was getting tired of hearing "what is that?" "it's so big" and it's even worse hearing people remark about my phone. So I wanted to downsize my handset and its a great size. I can one hand it for the most part but a little stretch for the top and bottom areas...

Almost, the top and bottom are a slight stretch but my thumb can reach the other side again. So i can use swype one handed which was an issue with my note 2.

I jumped directly from S2 two nexus 5..most of the time I can reach all parts of the screen with one hand(thumb).. perfect size, not too big like note 3 or too small like iPhone 5s..

At what times are you not able to reach all parts of the screen?
Say I'm using left hand and trying to reach setting in notification bar.. I won't be able to do that.. But don't find it an issue since I'm right handed

Setting is actually a big button on stock android.. When using right handed, can you reach the new tab button on chrome at the top left? Can you also reach the profile picture in the notification tray (the button next to brightness)?
Does anyone LIKE the size of the chin? I found myself instantly pleased with the added area to handle my phone. I actually left the sim in my 5x for a while to be sure. But I've never noticed how much I use the top and bottom bezels in portrait view. Especially when. Showing someone pictures or portrait videos. I dunno... I'm loving it. Perfect size where my thumbs never bumps the touchscreen.

I have no problem with it either. Take a look at the iPhone 6, which I have, and the bezel is about the same size as the Pixel. Actually the whole phone looks similar with a very similar feel. The Pixel is a little larger screen dimension wise but both are beautiful devices. And let's be honest here, if you can compare to an iPhone you're saying something. This device is a jewel if the battery can hold up.
I just got my Pixel today, and I wish the chin was a bit smaller to be honest. The onscreen buttons take up a good chunk of space that I feel makes it look a bit...iPodish? That's for sure not an accurate assessment, but it is what I think when I look at the chin of the phone especially. Like I said, first day and all. I love everything else about this phone though. I even think the price is justifiable.

Plus it gives the phone a very minimal/elegant look. So no complaints from me!

Yes same here... While at first I thought it was huge and unsightly, when I think about it, I wouldn't want my thumb to have to reach any further down to get to the nav bar. It keeps the nav bar at a perfect height. Still seems kind of boring though. But I'm also glad they didn't put any branding there so kind of a conundrum for me.

I just wish people would stop calling it a "chin" - it's a bezel, not a chin. Look at the original G1 for a "chin".

Totally... A lot of people seem to want this phone to be the opposite of iPhone. But we already had that... The Nexus lineup. Sure some were better than others but they were never trying to compete with anyone directly. Just good enough with a great price.

Just got mine last night. And I honestly looked at it and said 'why is everyone complaining about the chin?' to my girlfriend.
I agree, I am totally satisfied with the price now that the phone is in hand. Speed/Feel is amazing.

I never noticed that the home button was more comfortable on the Pixel until I used my 5X and Pixel side by side.. thanks for pointing that out! Of course I can't say much about the XL cause I didn't get that one.

HAH. I've been Androiding since the G1... and yea, that thing had a Joe Swanson Chin for real.
I just joined the chin lingo cause everyone else seemed to be doing it... Peer pressure!
this is #13 of a long list of reasons i'm returning the Pixel. this phone makes so little sense to me i cannot even wrap my head around it, probably because i don't talk TO my damn phone. leave the AI for the kiddos. going back to my ****ing galaxy S3. maybe HTC 10 after that. dunno.
Now that I have my phone, in person, I don't mind it. I prefer balance/symmetry and the chin provides that. I would prefer a speaker there instead, but oh well …
The chin I actually don't notice. Maybe it's because I have the 5' black version. To me, the chin makes it better for one handed use. The galaxy s7 was hard for one handed use for me anyway. I think the chin thing is really blown out of proportion. Just my two cents.
In theory I'd like to see a smaller chin/ bezel and increase the screen size while keeping the overall size the same.
In practice, I don't mind the chin. I don't notice it at all.
I hear y'all but that Jay Leno chin and fivhead are fails to me. I do appreciate all the reasons why you like them but the could have put like 8 speakers in that space. Subs, tweeters and all that! Still love the phone though.

The bottom bezel adds balance, symmetry and consistency to the device.
I am still upset it gave up the speaker grill. But sure look uber minimalistic.

Does anyone LIKE the size of the chin? I found myself instantly pleased with the added area to handle my phone. I actually left the sim in my 5x for a while to be sure. But I've never noticed how much I use the top and bottom bezels in portrait view. Especially when. Showing someone pictures or portrait videos. I dunno... I'm loving it. Perfect size where my thumbs never bumps the touchscreen.

Totally agree with both of you. I think it really adds the balance. When I saw it at first I wondered, but once I used it I don't mind a bit. I use headphones so I dont care about huge speakers.
Coming from the BB Z30 I am use to the chin and prefer it becuase of the way I hold the phone and navigate with my thumb. Now if only google would pick up a bb 10 device and take down some notes. Like moving things down low so I dont have to stretch my hand to the top.

Same here, I only use my phones one-handed, whether it's the Pixel, Notes, iPhone 7+, etc. The extra space is where my palm digs into. The BlackBerry Classic is the only device I have to use two hands, but da*n, that physical keyboard is sooo worth it.
Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the Samsung Galaxy S10e feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.

Coming from a Pixel 2, and both phones in OtterBox Defenders are almost exact size, which is nice. One thing I don't like is the button placement. Pixel 2's buttons are in a perfect location. The S10e's are way too high on the phone in my opinion, at least to easily use one-handed.

The FPS placement is terrible IMO. I am a lefty and have to adjust (or change hands) every time I want to use it.
First world problems for sure but a show-stopper for me given how many times per day I need to use it.

So which one feels better between pixel 2 and s10e overall according to your experience?
The phones in the Defender case are almost identical, so no difference there. I prefer the Pixel 2 button placement, but not that big of a deal for me. The Pixels lack Band 14 and the new tech with WiFi and ATT's "5g" on the Samsung is really the ticket for me.

I almost feel like using my left index finger would be easier if I were a lefty... But I'm not so I can't say definitively.
Nice size of the device. No problem to reach the opposite corner of the phone when using with one hand

If you bought the 10e thinking you are getting 5G, you got ripped off.
Only the largest 6.7 inch S10's have 5G.

I really like the size of this phone, the thickness, height for me is perfect. Display size for me is perfect. I had the S9 before although very close to the same size it feels comfortable. in the hand.
Feels much better in my hand than my previous phone, the GS8+. That thing was a monster.
Something special about holding it once you wipe down all the finger oils, fingerprints and dust
Nice size, but buttons are placed oddly. I often end up taking an accidental screen shot when pressing volume-down with left thumb (finger inadvertently touches power-button).
I use bxActions to set the Bixby button to screen toggle on single-press, flashlight goggle on double-press.
The ergonomics are terrible.
Would be so much better if the power button/finger print sensor was on the top in the center, or if the finger print sensor was built into the bottom center of the screen. This way left- and right handed users could simply unlock the phone with their index finger.
And why not replace the volume rocker by vol up and vol down buttons on the top left, with the top right for camera and bixby buttons. This would open up the possibility to switch these buttons around, so lefties and righties could set their favorite button setup.

Symmetric layouts cater much better for left/right-handed use.
Glass backs are sooo 2015! They're heavy, slippery, and they break easily. Plastic may look cheap, but it's way more functional. Glass backs have no place on compact phones that are meant to be light.
Since the display doesn't really go edge-to-edge, raising the body around it slightly would protect the screen against falls on smooth surfaces.
And that camera box sticking out of the back? Make the phone half a milimeter thicker and recess the camera lens a bit. This also creates room for a slightly bigger battery. Win/win!
Greetings, so I have been a proud owner of the ROG series since the beginning, I have owned the original ROG, and currently I still own the ROG 2 & 5. I haven't owned the ROG 3 because it wasn't much of an upgrade from the 2 and there were compromises as we all know with the headphone jack,.. etc.
Up until the ROG 5 the bezels of all the ROG phones were symmetrical, but not the case with the ROG 5. I am drawn to symmetry especially when it comes to phones, I hate unsymmetrical bezels or phones with notches thats why I keep avoiding flagship phones because none meet my preference (I know it's not a big deal but in my case unfortunately it is).
So coming back to the headline, I have measured the top and bottom bezels and the bottom bezel is smaller by almost a 0.5 mm - 1mm. I have been noticing it since the moment I got the phone but I kept doubting it until I measured it, also i didn't believe ASUS will do it since there was no justified reason for them to do it in the first place (Disappointed honestly because I love this phone dual speakers design out of all the ROG series).
Anyway I wanted to point it out for those people interested, since I haven't found any mention of it in any thread or website.

12GB/128GB version
P.S : I added a photo of my phone scanned, then i measured it in Photoshop. This is what it turned out to be (As accurate as i could be ) ( A difference of 0.6 mm)

How can it be a defect, just by looking at the bezels from every angle you will notice that they aren't identical, now regarding the difference in measure I could be off but it's =<0.5 mm.

You answered your own question. Your bezels aren't identical.
Got out a ruler just to make sure and mine are a perfect 1 : 1 match.
@Rashad83 I always thought I was the only one
None of my friends ever understood my problems with most phones and their notches/punch holes and bezels.
I would rather have exact same bezels than a larger screen ratio.
Anyway back to the topic: thanks for your information. From the pictures it looked perfectly.
The first picture with the stickers on the display might seem off because the adhesive wasn't sticking but the drawn line is correct I assure you. I hate to say it but they aren't identical 100% sure!
So this is the bottom bezel with the sticker on it.
Now I took the bottom sticker and placed it on the top bezel, you can clearly see they aren't identical.

I am happy for you if that is the case, but still I can't believe it's a defect because as I understand it these displays come out from the same mold used to create all the ROG 5 displays. Basically I couldn't be the only case with this issue, it's either all the ROG 5 devices are suffering from this issue or I am one of the few( Maybe not a few, will have to see) suffering from this issue.

I never said you were the only case. Your issue would likely be an entire run (or location). I get that you are worked up about it, but a defect can be in the mold. It's still a defect.
What may be helpful is to post where you bought it and which version. There are two that work in the US, so this may be something that sways people if it only applies to one of them.

Thanks for the tip, the version I own is the Chinese version/model, i bought it locally so it wasn't shipped to abroad. The funny thing is that this is my second unit, the first unit I bought had scratches on the charger head so they replaced it for me. By the way I bought it from ASUS online official store.

That's actually really interesting. I know mine is Tencent, but it came with the WW firmware. I wonder if Taiwan got a separate manufacturing location.
So this topic got me interested in comparing other ASUS ROG 5 screen bezel sizes. I found this clear sample from Androidauthority Website , credits go to them .
I measured the length of the top (0.28 CM) and the bottom bezel (0.26 CM) in Photoshop, which results in a ratio of (1.076923076923077 : 1).
Now by my phone measurements the top bezel from the top speaker to the start of the display i get a measure of (~0.5 CM). Now if we multiply the ratio by the size i got, the bottom bezel should be (0.4642857142857143 CM). So a difference of ~ 0.4 MM.
Either way this proves that they aren't identical, It's not a big deal or a shocking discovery. None the less it's good to know for people wondering.

Starting to sound like an old cigarette commercial. That extra whatever millimeters longer
I wouldn't be surprised if it is intentional. The more I was thinking about it, the screen protectors have a black top and bottom that partially cut into the screen. The manufacturer just assumes they are identical and ends up covering it up. That would explain varied results.
The camera in the top likely requires just slightly more space. The screen has to be a specific size, but they might not have been able to make the phone any taller. Rather than make the screen smaller or put the camera into the screen, you end up with slightly different sizes.
This phone could use even more top & bottom bezels if you ask me! If you use it for gaming with max touch responsiveness, you know what I'm talking about - a lot of accidental touches around the lower corners in landscape. Not cool when gaming. The area block function in A-Crate doesn't work for me.
In addition I wish the display corners were just good old full size square corners instead of being as rounded as they are.

I cannot agree more. Unfortunately there is no newer phone that meets these requirements. However the rog 5 is the least guly one in my opinion.
I hope that "no bezel", Notch, Punch hole trend with rounded corners ends as soon as possible.
