Yes!

Yup, I've just confirmed it for myself and have published a full picture tutorial with step-by-step instructions here: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...-the-galaxy-s8-s8-to-launch-google-assistant/

unfortunately Samsung blocked this in the latest update.

Yep, blocked on firmware NRD90M.G950FUUX1AQDD. Too bad, just installed it a couple of hours ago.

[Q] Updated to Kit Kat - GEL, OK Google, etc

Hey folks,
I got my Moto G today and couldn't resist updating to 4.4.2
Just a quick question - are features like the Google Experience Launcher, OK Google activation from the home screen, and accessing Google Now via a side swipe all Nexus-only features?
If so, I assume these can be sideloaded?
Thanks all!
Tut tut - don't be lazy use search and you will find all your questions have already been answered.

Smart key abilities

Hey guys,
Another question which im guessing I already know the answer to but here goes:
Can the Smart Key be used as a home button and not just a shortcut to applications. I realised that if I use a different launcher on my phone then I am able to do that but instead, im using the default Honor launcher.
Anyone?
I didn't find a way to do it with the stock apps, however if you're rooted you have a couple options. I can vouch that the Xposed Edge module is able to remap the smart key to the home screen. Without root there are a couple button remappers in the play store if you want to give that a shot, but the two I tried wouldn't read the smart key as a button.

I spent the morning trying out all the applications on the play store. I'll have my Chinese friend look at the HiApp store. It's driving me insane due to it being such a simple thing.
I was looking at finding an application which simply brings you back to the homepage when you click it, which would resolve the issue, however, the idea seems stupid for one to even exist.
Found it. Great application. Works.
My friend found this on the hiapp store but I think you'll be able to find it elsewhere.

Good stuff, man. Glad you found an option for non root users. It's in the Google play store as well under the same English name btw.

Google Assistant for S7 Edge has arrived!!

Hello guys. Today after some research on various websites i found out that google assistant for S7 Edge (and many other devices) has arrived. Method to enable it is easy. You must switch language to English US and install latest Google App (from apk mirror for example - installed latest beta). After a while when I long pressed home button google assistant setup appeared.
Enjoy
Ps. No root needed and at the moment assistant is only working when you set English US language, when i switched back to English UK assistant disappeared and normal ok google app appeared (so make sure you stay on English US).
This has been discussed in numerous other threads including the correct section:

[GUIDE] How to revert to Google Search after updating to Google Assistant - No root

This video tells you how we can revert back from the new Google Assistant and replace it with the older Search widget.
This does not require root at all!
The reason for me to revert back is that I prefer to use text commands rather than voice commands. Also, I like to often bring up the text based search widget when I am in other apps. Google Assistant has this limitation that we cannot type our query. Till the Assistant brings the typing functionality, we can fall back to our old but working Google Now.
Note that this will not enable the NOW ON TAP option, but it will enable us to use the other features, like searching and using the text based commands available in Google Now.

HD 10 (2017) google play store and other .APK installs after Nov 4th update.

Hi, there are plenty of youtube videos about installing google play services onto the 10" tablet (2017 version). After the November 4th update the install button is greyed out, and can't be "clicked". However, someone has found a trick to bypass it. This is not my idea, I used it and am passing it on.
You need to install some (1 per APK you need to install) small apps from the Amazon app store. Any apps will do, small is quicker, you're going to delete them anyway. After installing the Amazon apps start to install the first apk (Google services or whatever). When you get to the point where the install button is greyed out, tap "home" (middle round button). Now hold one of the amazon apps until the uninstall option appears, and uninstall it. Tap the right (square) button to show all running apps, and open the window of the APK install. The install button now works. Repeat as many times as are needed to get all your APK's installed. Hurry, I doubt this will work for long

Thank you, this worked for me.

Hi there, I just got my HD 10 (2017) today and I found your thread while searching for the reason my Install button was greyed out. While I was reading your post, I may have discovered a slightly easier way to do this.
Start installing your apk, and get to screen where Install is greyed out.
Press the power button to put your device to sleep.
Press the power button again, and unlock your device.
The Install button should activate when your device unlocks, allowing you to install your apk.
I was able to install a number of apks without having to download anything from the Amazon Appstore. I hope this helps someone.

I just set up my new fire tablet and can confirm that this method works. Thanks!:highfive:
I'm planning to buy a Fire HD 10 on the Black Friday at $99 (to replace my aging Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4) but I really need to be able to have the Play Store on it, otherwise, no big use for me, even though I'm a Prime member. Hope these tricks you guys find to install apks keep on working, even when Amazon will update the OS...
My Fire HD 10 (2017) auto-updated to 5.6.0.0 a few days ago. Is this the update being discussed? I couldn't find any info on what is new or changed in 5.6.0.0.
Great Work Around
It kicked and screamed a bit. I initially had to wait for the tablet to go to sleep on it's own, then unlocking before the install button became active, after that, the additional files install button worked with forcing sleep and unlocking. Buggy for sure, great workaround, thanks!! > HD8, 6th Gen 5.6.0.0
I found a much easier way
Start APK Install till the point where the Install button is greyed out ... click the square "key" to activate task view ... select the installer app ... button is no longer greyed out
Just to be clear, i understand this is a way to install apps for the play store. Does this allow then for the app to behave like its on say a samsung smartphone?
IE: A game i play is platform specific, and your account is as well. I have it on my android phone, if i do this for the game on the HD 10, will i have access to my android account then?

Thanks for this tip. I just spent ages resetting my Fire tablet, as I had the greyed out install button you describe. I reset it, reinstalled Google Play, and then tried to sideload AC Market. The install greyed out, so I followed your instructions regarding the power button. It worked perfectly. I still am none the wiser as to the cause of the problem, but this is a simple workaround to get sideloaded apps installed.

Question: when there's an automatic system update from Amazon, does it prevent the apps installed from Google Play Store to work, or to update themselves?
Thank You, Thank You

I am so glad you posted this solution! I setup the play store and custom launcher yesterday and then my kindle updated. I had to make some adjustments so I decided to do a factory reset and start fresh today and couldn't install any apks.

1) I just got my Fire HD 10 today (11/20/17) because it is on sale now for $99, so no need to wait!
2) Installed Google Play Store and so far it looks fine (I logged into my account and it came up normally), but haven't installed any apps from it yet. As I was writing this I got an email titled "your new Amazon Fire HD 10 (2017) doesn't have the latest Google apps" which listed YouTube, GMail and Chrome, so I am expecting it work OK.
3) I used a procedure I found in a page called "How to Install Google Play on 2017 Fire Tablets in 5 Minutes" (just Google it). A couple of things to note:
a) I could not get the latest version of the Google Account Manager to install (parsing error), so you have to download the versions referenced in the article's links.
b) After you have installed the Google Play Services APK (#3 in the links list), you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list of permissions before the power off/on/unlock work-around will get the install button to work.
Hope this info is useful. Have fun!

Can't buy it before Friday... I'm from Canada... But I'll be in the USA this coming weekend...
Thanks for the infos. Hope it'll continue to work fine even after an automatic system update from Amazon...
Thank you!
Seriously, this works so much better than having to d/l and then uninstall apps. I created an account on this site JUST to thank you!
Purchased my tablet yesterday from best buy. Installed everything without having to do any workaround besides side loading. The only issue I see are that the icons in the play store are really big.
