[Q] S8/+ Europe - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone,
I want to replace my Nexus 6 with a new phone.
I really love the screen of the nexus 6 but it's time to move on!
So i thought of the S8 of S8+.
But what is the beter size compared with the nexus 6?
And i live in the Netherlands so is the phone able to install costum roms?, After rooting ofcourse.
let me know, one love

No!
There probably won't be any development anytime soon if any at all with new Samsung phones.
If custom Rom and Root is your thing, then your best bet is Oneplus 3 or 3T, IMHO.

There will be for him because where he is they get the exynos version.
And obviously the s8plus is a better match for the nexus 6 screen size.

The Nexus 5 seems to be pretty solid. It does not have all the functions the s5 will probably have, but at least what I did was buy the Nexus 5 unlocked from Google so I didn't extend my contract with ATT and when the next latest greatest comes out I will buy that on my upgrade from ATT. Hard to argue with a good phone that the total cost is what I would pay for a subsidized phone and with the subsidized phone I would have to extend my contract with ATT.
I for one will never purchase another Samsung phone with the whole Knox security situation

Honestly, if this is your first android phone I would recommend the galaxy s5. Nexus devices are more targeted at android enthusiasts/purists and don't have the bells and whistles that a lot of the others do. If you're not planning to unlock and flash custom roms and kernels then you're losing the biggest advantage of the phone (in my opinion). But if money really isn't an issue, then you could just buy both and sell the one you decide against.

In that case, go with the n5...it will be much easier to unlock than the s5. I would be surprised if the s5 came out in January; they are targeting a "Q1" release date so to me that means March.
I actually just ordered my n5 last night and had the same dilemma about the storage. I don't usually store a lot of music or movies on my phone but in the end I decided on the 32gb version since there's no external sd slot and it's only $50 more. 16gb may be enough, but keep in mind that you'll really only have about 12-13gb of user storage available.

Ignore the comment about the Nexus 6. The Nexus 5 just launched and it'll be awhile before a new Nexus device is launched. You're looking to get an Android smartphone and soon.
Choosing between the Galaxy S5 (unofficial) and the recently released Nexus 5, it's a matter of opinion. The Nexus phones and Galaxy series phones have always been different. The Galaxy S5 is going to be significantly more expensive than the Nexus 5.
Currently you can buy the Nexus 5, 16GB model full retail from Google for $349 and the Galaxy S4 costs $749. I owned the Galaxy S4 for 6 months and switched to the Nexus 5 and enjoy the Nexus 5 more than. You can buy a 32GB Nexus 5 model from Google for $399. The Samsung Galaxy phones will have Touchwiz (their launcher) along with the Android you'll be getting. For the past many years, people have "hated" Android for being laggy and having bad battery life. Those typically come from added 'bells and whistles' that most people don't end up using. The Galaxy S4 has those neat features where if a video is playing and you look away, it pauses the video. Those features are tedious and don't always work as great as they're expected too. When you get a Nexus device, you get a pure vanilla Android experience. It's just Android, it doesn't have carrier crap or manufacturer features from Samsung that 96.4% of people just disable. The Nexus 5 is significantly snappier and more responsive than my S4 ever was.
If you're concerned about space, get a 32GB. Only $50 more.
I know your asking about the Galaxy S5, but there's no official specs or expectations to go on so i'm basing my experience with the S4. Both have an immaculate screen and we can assume the S5 will be similar.
***What I would do if I were you is get yourself a Nexus 5, a fast, great Android experience - so you can adjust to having Android instead of iOS from your iPhones. Then after the S5 officially releases and they've worked past the issues they're going to have (being that it's Samsung) and play with one at a local store to see if you like it over the Nexus 5.
My recommendation: get the Nexus 5 for the best Android experience for your money.
Hope i've helped.

In my opinion, the Nexus 5 is an affordable smartphone with decent specs, Galaxy s5 isn't even released yet and will likely cost close to twice as much. Sure the S5 will probably have better specs since it's newer and costs a lot more.
From personal experience and I'm coming from an iPhone as well, I liked the S3 it was a nice phone with a good amount of options, didn't care for the S4, it was loaded with lots of features that I'd never use other than to show someone "hey look what this can do" It was big and felt like a mini tablet, total overkill for a phone unless you like that sort of thing.
I didn't care much for the Nexus 4 design, but I really like the Nexus 5, my only complaint is the camera which is supposed to be fixed with an update.
So, if you want lots and lots of features on a super expensive phone that won't receive updates quickly (unless you install a custom rom) go for the Galaxy S5
If you want an affordable phone that looks and works well and gets fast updates, go for the nexus.
PS: My only other complaint about the Nexus is that there's no Otterbox for it, but since Google has their own cases it doesn't bother me so much.

I don't know what you mean by multi-tasking experience? If you mean app-switching, there is a dedicated button on the Nexus 5 on the far right which allows easy app switching.
If you're referring to the "Multi-Window" feature to split your screen in two apps, no. That's a Samsung Multi-Window feature that the Galaxy S4 and Note 2/3 have. There are other things similar to that which you can get on a rooted Nexus 5, but it isn't stock.
Just my final thoughts on this... Carriers usually have a return policy. If you like the note setup then maybe Samsung is more to your liking? And about the space.... Since the n5 has no SD slot I bought the largest.... Would rather potentially waste 50$ than constantly run out of space and dislike my phone because of it.

[Q] Vote: OnePlus One/ Galaxy Note 3/ Nexus 6

Which one would you go for?
OnePlus One
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Motorola Nexus 6
This really should go in the dedicated 'What should I buy' thread.
At any rate, what are you looking for in the device? The OnePlus One comes with a version of CM, the Nexus 6 is easiest to mod, and the Note 3 offers the Spen and true multitasking but comes with KNOX.

Not what should I buy
I would buy OnePlus One if I had to.
I just wanted to know the opinion of other people.
Ah. Alright.
Why are you not considering the Note 4?
No doubt about it; the One Plus One as it is overall an excellent device containing no bloatware (Samsung), and not too big (Motorola) but updates and support will probably if not all ready stop due to One Plus and Cyanogen splitting but here on XDA you can still find out how to update it
Kinda sad they're already splitting, but yeah, OPO should be the go-to-phone for right now just because of how powerful it is versus the price.

Will Locked Bootloader/No Root be the Norm moving forward for Samsung and T-Mobile ?

Hello guys I just wanted to get a better feel of how everyone else feels right now and in particular to the Galaxy S7 as well as s7 Edge on T-Mobile having a locked bootloader making root extremely difficult to get if not impossible. This was upsetting to me not because I wanted the S7 and S7 Edge but because this set a precedent for the Note 6 which is not yet released. I started my Journey with a Galaxy Note 2 and loved them ever since. I have very large hands so I definitely needed a large phone and I really quite liked the size and features. I then got the Note 4 and was certainly happy with it for over a year. I usually only hold onto phones for a short while but that phone did pretty much everything for me so I held onto it a while. Samsung announced the Note 5 and I decided to pass due to no more SD Card so I now needed to opt for at least 64gb and no IR blaster. So I decided I wouldn’t be getting that and would look at other options. I began my hunt and ultimately one of the few phones that met my standards was the Nexus 6P since it had a 5.7-inch screen which was Amoled and had a very good camera and I decided to try out stock Android since everyone always raves of its speed and updates. Plus, root on the 6P would be easy.
Anyway the 6P has been doing fine but the battery does leave a lot to be desired (I feel touchwiz does very well with its battery optimizations). Camera is also slightly better due to speed and manual controls as well as screen brightness. The next phone on my radar is the Note 6 but with the no root precedent I’m fairly concerned. To sum it up I feel we don’t have many 5.7 inch or larger phone options out there and was wondering what devices will you guys be looking at as Note competitors especially if the new Note 6 from, T-Mobile cant be rooted? It seems manufacturers like LG and HTC are not really coming out with Note competitors and if they do they are basterdized in some fashion (like lower specs and cameras). Just makes you wonder if they are not interested in the market.
Well, from what I know lg is doing seem. V10 just got an update that apparently locked down the phone. Can't even go down to lollipop if you took the MM update...I will say you should hold onto that nexus, rest of the flashaholics and root lovers will join you soon. Lol
But to answer original post, yes that is now the norm going forward.
Gotta see t-mobile Samsung devices locked up one more time to tell.

This will be really sad if so. Nexus devices are fine but sometimes dont bring all the best features. If the phone is less than 5.7 inches and no Amoled its a non start for me. Liked the HTC 10 but 5.2 inch screen is no go for me lol.

Note 6 will be locked down.

anyone thinking about getting the note 7 when it's released?

So as the title asks, anyone considering it? I have read that it will probably use the same snapdragon we have. If this turns out to be true do you think our current root method will work for the note 7?
http://www.sammobile.com/2016/07/11...r-has-been-officially-introduced-by-qualcomm/
Looks like it won't have the same processor.
I've planned on it since the day I traded my note 5 for my S7. Seems like it's been forever.
If they want to make a 5.1" Note 7 or a 5.1" edge, I'm game. If they want to make a S7 mini (QC 652+/4.5-4.9" 1080p AMOLED screen, similiar screen/body), I'm also game. Otherwise, the driving force of my owning the s6/s7 is that Samsung is the only Android maker with a US presence to have flagship phones that takes up less volume than the LG G2 since that phone's release (S6, S6e and S7).
I bought my S7 on T-Mobile's Jump On Demand just for that. Is it really going to be the Note 7 or the Note 6?
Not with a locked bootloader.
After this S7, I'm done with locked devices which probably means that unless Samsung changes, I'm done with Samsung.

Sticking with the s7. It's almost the perfect size for me.
I'm going to be waiting for the new nexus devices to be released. I'm tired of Knox and the locked bootloaders. HopeFully this year you can purchase the nexus line through carriers.

i think the S8+ will do just fine. i have had every note device and never use the S pen. im excited for the new s8 though. just retruned my 7 plus and reversed my upgrade!
I was so excited when I got my note 5 back when, and decided that with oden, rooting was marvelous. and the dev. was very supportive. I'm on the s7 for a second time around and have seen a complete reversal for support. so with me it's a non issue with out an unlocked boot-loader. but if I had to choose, I couldn't wait, its the s8+ . Hopefully, a miracle would happen. peace.
I will get the S8+ if I decided to get a Samsung device this year. Simply because I rarely used the SPen ever.
Yea. I only use spen for copy and pasting texts

The Note 8 might have fingerprint under glass (at front), according rumors, the S8 would have had it, but Samsung run out of time to produce enough.
or the Samsung Galaxy On8? india only, but seems a better phone with removable back cover, none of this glass plated nonsense.
S8+ is on my high priority list! Don't need pen...
Just choose s8 plus
I still remember the day I bought a s6 edge
I used to love Samsung devices, but ever since they went only curved screens I've been bummed. Ooh well no more Galaxy's for me anymore. There are plenty of other phones. BTW absolutely love my Huawei Mate 9, best phone I've ever owned and I have owned almost all of them.
I almost bought a Mate 9, but the development there was scarce. Which made me have second thoughts. I'm currently using the Note 5 and was considering a G6 tough at first. I'm interested in seeing what the S8+ have to offer though and will make my decision after the reveal.
i had galaxy S2 then legendary S3 ...and then i switched to Note 4....and i sweared i would never go back to S series from note series.....so i guess either note 8 or i dont know what to buy these days....When Note 4 came out it blow my mind and i said that i must have it and bought it a moment when it came out....Now days i have no idea what my next phone will be :/
I was eagerly waiting for the release of the new Galaxy S phone, sold my S7 Edge like a month ago. I was all hyped and stuff, but even since all the rumours started to show up (no 6 gigs ram, no fingerprint scanner under the front glass (maybe for Note 8), patent for Note 8 dual camera etc.), I became unsure. At this moment i don't even know if i should spend 900 euros on a phone ) I even considered buying a Umidigi Z Pro
