anyone thinking about getting the note 7 when it's released? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

So as the title asks, anyone considering it? I have read that it will probably use the same snapdragon we have. If this turns out to be true do you think our current root method will work for the note 7?

http://www.sammobile.com/2016/07/11...r-has-been-officially-introduced-by-qualcomm/
Looks like it won't have the same processor.

I've planned on it since the day I traded my note 5 for my S7. Seems like it's been forever.

If they want to make a 5.1" Note 7 or a 5.1" edge, I'm game. If they want to make a S7 mini (QC 652+/4.5-4.9" 1080p AMOLED screen, similiar screen/body), I'm also game. Otherwise, the driving force of my owning the s6/s7 is that Samsung is the only Android maker with a US presence to have flagship phones that takes up less volume than the LG G2 since that phone's release (S6, S6e and S7).

I bought my S7 on T-Mobile's Jump On Demand just for that. Is it really going to be the Note 7 or the Note 6?

Not with a locked bootloader.
After this S7, I'm done with locked devices which probably means that unless Samsung changes, I'm done with Samsung.

Today Samsung officially announced that it would be called the 7.

If the bootloader is unlocked I'm buying one.

Anyone know the release dates of the t-mobile note 7? Thanks

Looks like early August is the latest rumor.

Sticking with the s7. It's almost the perfect size for me.

I'm going to be waiting for the new nexus devices to be released. I'm tired of Knox and the locked bootloaders. HopeFully this year you can purchase the nexus line through carriers.

The Nexus 5 seems to be pretty solid. It does not have all the functions the s5 will probably have, but at least what I did was buy the Nexus 5 unlocked from Google so I didn't extend my contract with ATT and when the next latest greatest comes out I will buy that on my upgrade from ATT. Hard to argue with a good phone that the total cost is what I would pay for a subsidized phone and with the subsidized phone I would have to extend my contract with ATT.
I for one will never purchase another Samsung phone with the whole Knox security situation

buy the s5 when it is released or wait for the next flagship by an other company which will be released just weeks after with better specs?????

Honestly, if this is your first android phone I would recommend the galaxy s5. Nexus devices are more targeted at android enthusiasts/purists and don't have the bells and whistles that a lot of the others do. If you're not planning to unlock and flash custom roms and kernels then you're losing the biggest advantage of the phone (in my opinion). But if money really isn't an issue, then you could just buy both and sell the one you decide against.

In that case, go with the n5...it will be much easier to unlock than the s5. I would be surprised if the s5 came out in January; they are targeting a "Q1" release date so to me that means March.
I actually just ordered my n5 last night and had the same dilemma about the storage. I don't usually store a lot of music or movies on my phone but in the end I decided on the 32gb version since there's no external sd slot and it's only $50 more. 16gb may be enough, but keep in mind that you'll really only have about 12-13gb of user storage available.

Ignore the comment about the Nexus 6. The Nexus 5 just launched and it'll be awhile before a new Nexus device is launched. You're looking to get an Android smartphone and soon.
Choosing between the Galaxy S5 (unofficial) and the recently released Nexus 5, it's a matter of opinion. The Nexus phones and Galaxy series phones have always been different. The Galaxy S5 is going to be significantly more expensive than the Nexus 5.
Currently you can buy the Nexus 5, 16GB model full retail from Google for $349 and the Galaxy S4 costs $749. I owned the Galaxy S4 for 6 months and switched to the Nexus 5 and enjoy the Nexus 5 more than. You can buy a 32GB Nexus 5 model from Google for $399. The Samsung Galaxy phones will have Touchwiz (their launcher) along with the Android you'll be getting. For the past many years, people have "hated" Android for being laggy and having bad battery life. Those typically come from added 'bells and whistles' that most people don't end up using. The Galaxy S4 has those neat features where if a video is playing and you look away, it pauses the video. Those features are tedious and don't always work as great as they're expected too. When you get a Nexus device, you get a pure vanilla Android experience. It's just Android, it doesn't have carrier crap or manufacturer features from Samsung that 96.4% of people just disable. The Nexus 5 is significantly snappier and more responsive than my S4 ever was.
If you're concerned about space, get a 32GB. Only $50 more.
I know your asking about the Galaxy S5, but there's no official specs or expectations to go on so i'm basing my experience with the S4. Both have an immaculate screen and we can assume the S5 will be similar.
***What I would do if I were you is get yourself a Nexus 5, a fast, great Android experience - so you can adjust to having Android instead of iOS from your iPhones. Then after the S5 officially releases and they've worked past the issues they're going to have (being that it's Samsung) and play with one at a local store to see if you like it over the Nexus 5.
My recommendation: get the Nexus 5 for the best Android experience for your money.
Hope i've helped.

In my opinion, the Nexus 5 is an affordable smartphone with decent specs, Galaxy s5 isn't even released yet and will likely cost close to twice as much. Sure the S5 will probably have better specs since it's newer and costs a lot more.
From personal experience and I'm coming from an iPhone as well, I liked the S3 it was a nice phone with a good amount of options, didn't care for the S4, it was loaded with lots of features that I'd never use other than to show someone "hey look what this can do" It was big and felt like a mini tablet, total overkill for a phone unless you like that sort of thing.
I didn't care much for the Nexus 4 design, but I really like the Nexus 5, my only complaint is the camera which is supposed to be fixed with an update.
So, if you want lots and lots of features on a super expensive phone that won't receive updates quickly (unless you install a custom rom) go for the Galaxy S5
If you want an affordable phone that looks and works well and gets fast updates, go for the nexus.
PS: My only other complaint about the Nexus is that there's no Otterbox for it, but since Google has their own cases it doesn't bother me so much.

I don't know what you mean by multi-tasking experience? If you mean app-switching, there is a dedicated button on the Nexus 5 on the far right which allows easy app switching.
If you're referring to the "Multi-Window" feature to split your screen in two apps, no. That's a Samsung Multi-Window feature that the Galaxy S4 and Note 2/3 have. There are other things similar to that which you can get on a rooted Nexus 5, but it isn't stock.
Just my final thoughts on this... Carriers usually have a return policy. If you like the note setup then maybe Samsung is more to your liking? And about the space.... Since the n5 has no SD slot I bought the largest.... Would rather potentially waste 50$ than constantly run out of space and dislike my phone because of it.

[Q] Who wants this amazing device?

Who wants this amazing device?
Any news on availability?
Will this phone have a screen protector? how should it applied to a curved screen? and most importantly will it get an AOSP Rom? of course a proper which uses the curved screen?
I'm teetering back and forth on what to get. I'll need to see some reviews before I can make an informed decision. With that being said I'm leaning towards the Note 4 at the moment.
I want it badly !!
Worst information, that Edge will be available only in several markets. I've read on sammobile about Singapour, Korea, US, Spain and Australia.
It will be available in the US an all major carriers.
And I'm probably going to get it as long as developer support is there. Even if it's not as prevalent as established devices.
I'm a cutting edge kind of guy and this is definitely my style.
I've been waiting for this device every since the first picture was released but after finding out VR only works with the Note 4, Edge isn't for me anymore.

Me too. I am sure there will be some good pre-launch deals but I would like to get my hands on one first to see if it's suitable, if not definitely the Note 4... but when?!!
I'm still on my Note II and I don't see any good reason to go for the Note 4, but I'd definitely consider the edge simply for it's uniqueness.
But ONLY if it gets rooted and ROM'd.
Speaking of which, someone please tell me the makers of DN3 are working on porting the Note 4's Touchwiz back to Note II! :fingers-crossed:

I think I want the edge too. If nothing else if development is not there, in 6 months I'll just get something else or just live with stock . It just seems too "cutting edge" to pass up. Note 4 is great but a little something different in form would be nice for a change.
I am really leaning towards the Edge, it just looks so cool (yes I'm shallow) and 64gb memory doesn't hurt. I'm going to wait until I can play with both phones, though. I'm not in a big hurry, my Note 2 is still going strong. Rather take some time to make my choice.
I want one badly but I'm afraid Samsung won't release a Dev. Edition Edge for us Verizon guys.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to choose between a Dev. Edition Note 4 or a locked Note Edge :crying:
I want one to but it's being said around other sites that it going to cost us almost a $1000.00. What are your thoughts.
Potentially Unique and Useful Device
I too have a Note II and it is great device. I'll probably get an Edge on Sprint contract if the price is not ridiculous. If it is, I'll probably seriously consider the IPhone 6 Phablet. The Edge has the opportunity to be a truly unique device with the help of XDA Developers.
I definitely will buy one, it s soooo sexy!!

I'm definitely buying one BUT I won't get one of the first shipment of orders, I'll wait until the xda development is established because I already know that the AT&T version will have a locked bootloader.

I love the new technology. I to wonder how much support there will be for the device The fact that the powerful specs of the Note 4 are under the hood are even a more compelling reason to grab this device.
I think the Note Edge will be great, but theoretically it should slightly underperform compared with the Note 4 because a single processor will be powering 2 screens.
I will most likely buy this device... (I am a hardcore **** Galaxy Note Fan... but... but...
I will buy the Galaxy Note 4 first for sure (first day it hits the store, without doubt... same as I did with Note 2 & Note 3... got Note 1 after about 2 months it was released)... (T-Mo Version) because it will most likely have root, unlocked bootloader and all the things we all love... and... then when the Edge comes... I will wait a week or 2... as soon as I see that it can be rooted and some dev support... I will end up buying this one too... have them both coexist for a month more or less and see how things go with each device... (development support, roms, etc...) and after a month maybe 2... will finally decide who is the lucky winner... (the looser... I will sell on ebay)
that's my story...
after seeing a video review of the Note Edge, i'm not so sure about it anymore for one main reason - one handed use. because of the screen on the right side, apparently its very difficult to use with your right hand without accidentally activating and/or pressing something on that screen. I'm a heavy one-handed/right-handed user on all my phones and this is a big deal.
I guess I'll have to get used to using both hands (of course its required when it comes to using the stylus)

[Q] Get the Note 4 or wait for S6?

I am lucky enough to be able to get an upgrade this week and was planning on doing it Feb 27th. I have plans on getting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 because I have been told its the best phablet/Android large device etc.
HOWEVER, with the announcement of the S6 on March 1st...opinions on if I should wait and get the S6 or will the Note 4 still be larger and superior?
I prefer the series over the note series. So I suggest wait. But of you are eligible for an upgrade on the 27th why not wait until the note 5 is released? What are you working with right now?

i would at least wait until the announcement on march 1st before making a decision...
Well, they are in two different market segment. Note 4 got 5.7" screen and S6 got 5.1"(may even down to 5" this time). If you real need a large screen, you have no choice but only Note4.
Personally, I will pick S6 because the camera will be improved and got RAW and manual shutter speed mode. Though the Note4 camera is already superb and very very enough for daily use. If you don't need that "Pro" mode in s6, then the camera in both phones are almost same to you.
I will suggest to wait 1st March and see what will happen but don't expect it on sales earlier than 22th March according from leaked information.

If you can wait then wait. For now I am using a Note 4, just upgraded from S3. It's a great device. It's still worth buying a note 4, but waiting and getting to know what does S6 or S6 Edge (if available) has to offer will be a better idea.
I didn't know S6 will be coming this soon, or else I would have waited, but since I got the note 4 I am still happy because it is better than all the other samsung devices for now.
Every new flagship device is great until the next flagship device releases with better specs than our device.
Just sold my Note 4
Wait for S6. So you can test all you want and compare side by side with Note 4.
yess better wait
however S series are so much more focused on
If you want a big screen note 4 if you want a small screen perhaps S6.
That said if sammy really did away with ext sd card support thats going to be a sore spot with many i would think...something to consider.
Id wait and see what happens...unless of course u want the bigger screen.

Will Locked Bootloader/No Root be the Norm moving forward for Samsung and T-Mobile ?

Hello guys I just wanted to get a better feel of how everyone else feels right now and in particular to the Galaxy S7 as well as s7 Edge on T-Mobile having a locked bootloader making root extremely difficult to get if not impossible. This was upsetting to me not because I wanted the S7 and S7 Edge but because this set a precedent for the Note 6 which is not yet released. I started my Journey with a Galaxy Note 2 and loved them ever since. I have very large hands so I definitely needed a large phone and I really quite liked the size and features. I then got the Note 4 and was certainly happy with it for over a year. I usually only hold onto phones for a short while but that phone did pretty much everything for me so I held onto it a while. Samsung announced the Note 5 and I decided to pass due to no more SD Card so I now needed to opt for at least 64gb and no IR blaster. So I decided I wouldn’t be getting that and would look at other options. I began my hunt and ultimately one of the few phones that met my standards was the Nexus 6P since it had a 5.7-inch screen which was Amoled and had a very good camera and I decided to try out stock Android since everyone always raves of its speed and updates. Plus, root on the 6P would be easy.
Anyway the 6P has been doing fine but the battery does leave a lot to be desired (I feel touchwiz does very well with its battery optimizations). Camera is also slightly better due to speed and manual controls as well as screen brightness. The next phone on my radar is the Note 6 but with the no root precedent I’m fairly concerned. To sum it up I feel we don’t have many 5.7 inch or larger phone options out there and was wondering what devices will you guys be looking at as Note competitors especially if the new Note 6 from, T-Mobile cant be rooted? It seems manufacturers like LG and HTC are not really coming out with Note competitors and if they do they are basterdized in some fashion (like lower specs and cameras). Just makes you wonder if they are not interested in the market.
Well, from what I know lg is doing seem. V10 just got an update that apparently locked down the phone. Can't even go down to lollipop if you took the MM update...I will say you should hold onto that nexus, rest of the flashaholics and root lovers will join you soon. Lol
But to answer original post, yes that is now the norm going forward.
Gotta see t-mobile Samsung devices locked up one more time to tell.

Yes, I would agree, one more locked Samsung from Tmobile will confirm, but I would be very surprised if it came UNlocked...

This will be really sad if so. Nexus devices are fine but sometimes dont bring all the best features. If the phone is less than 5.7 inches and no Amoled its a non start for me. Liked the HTC 10 but 5.2 inch screen is no go for me lol.

Thanks for your input. makes sense.
Note 6 will be locked down.

Note 5, or wait for next model?

I currently have an iphone 6S+, and its gotten to the point i hate it. I originally had it jailbroken etc and the support for it has just fallen off and now i cant do **** with it and its time to go, so my question is as a note 3 and 4 previous owner, will the note 5 do what i want? Ive heard a lot of contradictory information about it.
Can the 5s be rooted? I like stock appearence but debloated and the ability to use wifi hotspot because of my unlimited data plan.
Is there an SD slot? the non expandability of my ihone bothers me.
Or should i just wait till Fall and get the newest latest and greatest?

Seeing you want a SD card I would just wait. The Note 6/7 will be coming out in August so it's only about a month away. From the leaked specs it sounds like it's going to be a bumped up S7 with a slightly better processor, bigger battery and more ram. Along with a Note 5 I own the S7 edge and really like the camera and external SD. The Note 5 is a beautiful phone but I would wait a few weeks before you spend that kind of cash on a new phone. There is currently no root for either phone but you can disable any app with the paid version of Package Disabler pro (no PC required) or the Debloater tool witch is free but requires a PC. I also believe you can tether with FoxFi but I'm not 100% sure on that.
I to would wait for the next model. My Note 5 was fine until MM came out. I may revert back to the older software. No removable battery is a pain. I haven't had a memory problem but would still like to expand when needed. I have the 64 gig model.

Foxfi works on my 5 even with the latest updates. Still not used to all the ads though. I've been rooted since my first Droid. Life ad-free was so ....so...free

Wait.
I have the Note 5 and there is no root for the Verizon version.
Ugh no root hurts my heart...
but deinitely sounds like its worth waiting. Is the S7 edge rootable? The stylus is a mute point for me, i jsut want a giant screen and rooting/free teathering abilities lol

It did at first for me. But ive grown out of the root, recovery and flashing rom days. It was fun and all until dev support stops. And the Rom stays forever on kitkat 4.4.2 and meanwhile the phone is now on lolipop 5.1 or marshmallow 6.0.1 and getting left behind.

Same here but I was on the other end too. I got tired of wasting the days making ROMs just for Verizon to kill root the next update. I love the Samsung phones so I got used to no root. At least package disabler works and we have themes.

No the only S7 Edge that is rootable is the Chinese version. It's not available in the U.S.A. It's still a great phone root or not. You can have free teathering without root, read post #2 again. Root would be better but it's looking pretty dismal with a Samsung device.

For sure wait! The Note 7 will be out in less than one month. The price on the Note 5 will drop once the Note 7 is released. So even if you want a Note 5, wait for the price drop.

In case you didn't know the S7 Edge now has root. I'm definitely keeping mine now.

Yeah but they got root because a Samsung employee leaked a signed engineering bootloader.

I'll take it any way I can get it. It's not perfect but at least the file system can be modded to ones preference and full system back ups can be done.
wait for note 7 , i`m sick of absence of expansion slot for my note 5 , also battery back up is not so good.

Me too but my point was simply that this was a freak case due to the leak. We can't analogize anything they did with the S7 to the Note 5 because we don't have a signed engineering kernel for our device.
The fact that the S7 got rooted with a leaked signed engineering bootloader is no reason for us to have hope. We can't count on a Samsung employee leaking signed files like that, they are risking their job.
Rooting the S7 wasn't due to a dev finding an exploit; it was due to a Samsung employee leaking a file that they shouldn't have. Or worse, someone who wasn't a Samsung employee doing something illegal to obtain the file.

Actually, it is usually the opposite. The new device gets huge subsidies whereas the older devices stay at full price.
That having been said, it is pretty obvious to me that if you love the note series, and are into control of your phone, then the Note 4 Remains the best Android phone ever made for Verizon, and the best in the note series.
The list of benefits for the Note 4 is plethora: Root. Unlock Bootloader. Replaceable battery. SD card support. MHL. USB on-the-go. IR blaster. Great ROM support up to MM. Wireless charging option. Gorgeous screen. Incredibly durable build quality.
FYI: the first 8 benefits are not available on any other Verizon phone.
