USB OTG problem - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Somebody seriosuly screwed USB OTG functionality here.
I mean copying 138MB from internal drive to USB takes like 10 minutes?
C'mon!
I use a Sandisk USB 3.0 USB A / USB C stick.

I use a otg and connected to a sd card reader, I move psp roms with a very good speed, but not like 10 minutes for example 500mb

Can GS6 Handle 1 TB External HDD?

I have used external hard drive before with my note 3 but it's only 150GB. Now with S6 having no expandable SD card, I'm thinking I'd keep an external hard drive handy. I know it supports USB OTG on the get go but can I it run 1 TB HDD without extra power source? I think this is better than buying a 64 GB model with the same price of 32 GB model and 1TB HDD.
or do you think I should go with the 64 GB model?

Did you have 1TB of storage on your previous phone with SD? If not, why do you need the hassle now? Why not get a MicroSD adapter that is a fewe $ and still use your MicroSD?
To naswer your wuestion - it will not handle a device with that much power draw.

Because my macbook storage is almost full so I find the need of using an external HDD. Do you have any idea what maximum storage GS6 can handle via USB OTG?

Hard to say, but I would first start with upgrading your Macbooks drive instead of looking at solutions like connecting a 1TB drive to a phone.
An extreme solution would be to get get proper cables and use a powerbank to power the drive and have it working on the phone, still.

It's not the size drive that's the issue, its the type of drive you connect. A flash drive is one thing, bit don't think about hooking up a 2.5" mechanical external hard drive. Even if it worked, your battery would die in no time.
Sent from my "bigger is smaller" LG G3
Let me break it down.
Note 3 USB OTG output current: 900mA
Note 2 USB OTG output current: 500mA
Note 4 USB OTG output current: 600mA
S4 USB OTG output current: 500mA
HTC m7 USB OTG output current: 300mA
HTC m8 USB OTG output current: 500mA
So, maybe, maybe not. Note 3 can run every drive I've tried except the power hungry 4TB Seagate Backup Plus Fast.
If you want to measure your drive and find out the current draw, just buy the inexpensive CHARGER Doctor.
Also, the S6 will probably have 600mA output, so it most likely can handle some drives, but you'll need to measure to be sure. I'll be testing an S6 soon to verify output current.

Thanks a lot man for helping btw pendrive works with this on miui eu rom ?
YES if the stick is formatted FAT32 - for NTFS exFAT etc... you will need third party software available at the play store.......
I had a problem with one single USB 3.0 stick which simply is not recognized. But two other USB 3.0 worked fine. So i think its an incompatibiliy issue.

How did you connect your drives ? Via adapter?
yes via Adapter C male to A female (linked in post #4)
i couldn't get it to work with a usb otg adapter + a xiaomi type c adapter
Tested using this otg cable from ali express:
w w w.aliexpress.com/item/2016-New-Arrival-Micro-USB-C-3-1-Type-C-Male-to-USB-3-0-Cable/32522054659.h t m l
(remove the spaces from start and end)
and usb flash, mouse and keyboard are all working fine with my Xiami Mi 4c. OTG won't work using the micro usb converter (also tried and tested). Only the direct USB Type C OTG cable will work as the one in the above link.

What is the reason behind not working with micro usb adapter? Does anybody know?

As per my understanding, it has to do with the difference in standards of type C and normal micro usb. Therefore the converter only works for charging n data transfer and not while u use the port in host mode (for usb flash and other peripherals).

Welcome bro
I´m using solid explorer and otg plugin from playstore. It works perfectly with fat32 and NTFS flashdrives and some HDD´s.

I'm pretty sure it's because USB type C and USB type A use different lanes/wires (physical) for transferring data and the adapter links up different ones. That's just the standard I'm afraid.
Suppoted
after much testing it works with every native usb type c flash memory or other. that means that if u use an adapter from micro usb to usb type c or an otg adapter it won't work.

Samsung T3

The Samsung T3 external SSD is USB type C and is extremely fast. Using the stock cord that came with my phone I can make a twrp backup faster than to the internal storage.
Anyone else use one?

That's because your phone has to read and write from flash at the same time. My OTG cable and USB 3.0 drive i've had for 2 years os still faster than backing up internally also. But I agree, the T3 would probably super tots.
The T3 is also very fast with the computer. Transfers 5gb in seconds

I've tried hooking up my otg micro USB cable with flash drive. But 6p isn't reading. I figured it can't transmit data micro USB style. Is that why its not reading it? Have you tried that @Gytole?

I used micro usb otg cable, then micro USB to type c adapter, into 6p. Im saying I used a type c adapter and I think that's why it wasn't connecting to the flash drive but either way whatever happened it was not connecting and I tried numerous times I even tried apps like stickmount
Whether the nexus 6p works with exfat or NTFS formatted drive
Please confirm
3rd party app will mount exFAT-formatted T3

I just took another pass at getting my 6P to work with my exFAT-formatted T3, and this time around (Android 7.1.2) saw multiple paths to success.
Firstly, this time, when I plugged in my device, the system presented a notification, which led to a dialog asking if I wanted to "format the device for mobile data storage" – which would have meant reformatting to FAT32. Not what I wanted, but pretty cool that it was an option and I didn't have to go digging.
Secondly, a quick googling turned up a third-party app that will mount exFAT volumes. It's called Paragon exFAT/NTSF (I don't have permission to post urls here yet). I had to pay $5 for exFAT support, and it wanted Total Commander (free) to browse and operate on the files.

I am using SanDisk dual USB-c on one side and regular USB-a on the other side make transfering files to/from phone >laptop a breeze. I had this USB drive for about 6 months and so far no issues
SanDisk Ultra 128GB Dual Drive USB Type-C (SDDDC2-128G-G46)

K20 Pro USB OTG card Reader

I don't know what's the problem and i can't use any of the card readers to read my micro sd Card 64GB (exFat).
but other devices like USB hub with attached USB Thumb drive can be read. not to mention KBs Mouse... they all work
I have the same exact. I can't copy files from my camera to the phone. Works ok with a mouse. Even with the mi a3 i had before, i could do this. But the mi9tpro won't
HID over USB is enabled, but there's no USB Host support. That's why mouse/keyboard work, but not memory sticks and USB readers. MTP and WiFi transfers are the only way to go. It's a common issue nowadays on newer Android/phones. We just have to live with it.

Me too, I bought and use this:
https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07416LQVM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_QDLWEbKT3QY9N
Works well with scheduled backups of Titanium Backup, in fact I putted its folder in microSD.
