Hello,
I bought a Galaxy S6 last week because I got it for about 230€ brand new. I did that although I really don't like Samsungs software-thing they do with android.
Currently these things upset me:
- Touchwiz
- Own status bar
- No "dnd until next alarm" - why the hell did they patch out that feature?
- some little "nice" samsung tweaks - smartstay and the whole stuff
- hardware-buttons (ok, no software-solution to get rid of that)
- different status bar usage
- no artwork with play music/music player/poweramp or anything
I really love the hardware. The camera is absolutely great and the phone feels really good in my hands - but the samsungs-software is...... i don't know why... i hate it.
I already themed it with stock marshmallow and replaced the touchwiz launcher, but still there are so many little things that i hate about the software. In my eyes they cut down some nice features that are in stock already and therefor they bring in features I don't want to have
My question: Will there ever be a possibility to run a stock android rom on this nearly perfect hardware? It doesn't have to be Android N, but I want to get rid completely of this samsung overflow. Or should I sell this thing and get a Nexus 5x?
Thanks for your reply,
clemon

No its not possible that there ever will be a stock rom for the samsung galaxy s6. If you really want stock android go with the Nexus 5x but really think twice before making a decision
There is no fully functional AOSP ROM (like CyanogenMod) -right now-.
But, @RaymanFX is trying to bring AOSP support for Exynos 7420 devices. I hope we'll get AOSP support soon.
As you might have noticed, Android 8.0 codename Oreo has been officially released today.
Let's discuss all news, speculations, development, and opinions on Android Oreo, especially for our Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices.
not much to discuss - S8 still on Android 7.0 when even Nokia is on 7.1
Id say - expect it on Galaxy S9 - next year in March
If im wrong - i ll buy you a beer
The S8 does literally everything that's highlighted as a new feature in Oreo

I just wish the MMS bug was fixed. 7.0 has the issue, 7.1 doesn't and it's super annoying.
I think that there is a lot to discuss, mostly about design , UI
As every new major os update samsung ui is completely different. Remember Kitkat then lollipop on galaxy s6 , then marshmallow on galaxy s7 and nougat on s6 7 8 is one of the biggest changes. So did you expect or want (or not) ui changes both in system interface and icons , or getting closer to aosp look? I personally love the s8 ui and icons but I think I could be nice to have in apps instead of pure white , a white that is just a little little bit tinted with app accent color, I mean in the dialer app for example, instead of white background, a white that is a little bit tinted with a very light and pastel green . I could bring a little bit of color and uniqueness to all of the apps

Android O has already been confirmed for the s8/s8+.
The reason Samsung hasn't updated to 7.1 is because it's not really needed since the s8/s8+ already does everything 7.1 has to offer.
It's speculated that Android O will be released for the s8/s8+ in January.

There are tons of changes under the hood and bugfixes to Android you know?

Wondering if Touchwiz will be updated on the S8 when it gets Oreo. Or would it just be what we have now (8.1) with Oreo underneath. I got the S8 purely for the hardware, never been a fan of touchwiz.
What Android O features is Samsung going to replace or just not implement? That's an interesting question.
Was rocking an iPhone 7 for a while, but when ios11 got announced and offered literally nothing of value I said "F this" and came back to Android.
I miss the Play Edition phones.

on android 8 on galaxy s8, Samsung experience is expected to jump from actual 8.1 to 8.5
Haha Android Oreo. Samsung won't release anything for maybe 9 months. Your better off wishing for a bootloader unlock then installing a custom rom which modi likely won't happen for maybe 6 months.
Android O has copied / borrowed a lot from the Samsung Experience UI. It's notable in terms of functionality and also in certain UI-design, such as the revamped settings menu. It looks nearly identical to the one on the S8.
Except for a few under-the-hood optimizations Android O has NOTHING to offer to an Galaxy S6 or newer Samsung device. We already have ALL features of the Android O feature list. There is no need to getting Android O in my opinion. It's nice that those new features are borrowed from Samsung and integrated into vanilla Android but that's all there is to it. I don't need Android Oreo but I do appreciate the security updates. Keep in mind that Nougat on the S8 has a lot more features and built-in features than Vanilla Nougat! Oreo simply narrows the gap between Vanilla and the current flagship leader, Samsung in terms of usable functionality that is genuine handy with day-to-day usage.

Can you hold press on a app icon and launch shortcuts-commands? eg: send new message in Whatsapp, or compose new email in
Does it have the notification actionable bubble?
if the answer is NO i guess literally everything is a bit incorect

Press long on an app icon for in-app shortcuts - commands>
does it do that - bcz its one thing to press long an whatsapp icon and get things like uninstall, move app etc - and another thing to get send message to John, etc commands
If I am not mistaken note 8 is at 7.1 and it's a same hardware like s8 cpu wise so I think that we will get 7.1 very fast

Yea I wouldn't go that far.
Everyone wants to have Android O on their S8. If all we get from this day forward is nothing but security updates. You'll be in the very small minority and everyone else would cause a scene and either abandon their 8 or beg Samsung for it.
Samsung has been doing a good job at keeping the S8 updated so far. Hopefully they do a good timely update to Oreo. Having treble should make updates easier for them to push out.

Coming from the s6, i saw the exact same train of thought i see here, so im going to say its always going to be a samsung "thing". When i had my s6 and it was on MM, people were in such an uproar about nougat and even when they got it they still were. I was happy with MM, people moreso say oh what about the security updates, i was an a 7 month old rom and never had any issues and only moved to nougat roms when the one i was one stopped updating.
Now i have the s8+, had it 3 weeks now and im not even thinking about the Oreo update right now, im happy with what i have, and when Oreo does come out for the phone i'll see how people find it 1st rather than jump in head first and then regret it.
I know Samsungs update policy so im not going to get in a huff about the update, people not so aware may not share my feelings.
Has anyone have info on when the s8 going to get the Android 8.0 Oreo update?
If i had to guess id say December or early January.

Doesnt matter, most of Oreo features are already built in the SAMSUNG UI.

Yeah, I agree; from what I read, it didn't sound like Oreo changes much for someone on S8+ Nougat. Nougat is a good version of Android; Samsung polishes that and it's hard to substantially improve what's already working rather well.

Yeah, the phone expeerience won't see many significant changes over the 7.1.1 build expected this/next month. Apart from the cleaner adaptive icons UI to make icons look more inline with one another (in supported apps) without the ugly white background with the normal icon on top.
But DeX mode will see big advantages! i.e. mouse capture will enable you to play first person shooter games just like you would on a PC!, better multi-display technology will enable you to run a dual monitor setup in DeX!, Picture in picture mode will enable you to watch a video in a more clean UI (no titlebar showing) in the corner of your screen while you run other apps along-side in fullscreen.
And thats just a few of the improvements that could come to the PC/DeX experience! :fingers-crossed::victory:
Why does everyone wait for changes in the UI, forgetting about the changes in the kernel of the system? Personally, I'm much more interested in improving security in 8.0, autofill API and stuff.
And with fear I'm waiting for the gluttony of the new version)

Also the new driver model, making it easier to upgrade to future Android versions even after the devices end of life and keeping the GPU drivers upto date via the Play store can help to boost performance and security more frequently, without the need to upgrade the devices firmware!
Just adding to the last two posts: I am missing app shortcuts a lot. Samsung is somehow lazy (as in the past) with updates, they are usually 1 year behind, even for their flagship devices, not to mention their "second row".
7.1.1 build next month??? Meh....it should be 7.1.2....again: Typical for Samsung.

I would like the app shortcuts as well, but it's not just Samsung that is lazy on that bit, and for the 7.1.2, Isn't that mainly for the Pixel phones? 7.1.1 is what all accept Pixel is using and have used for the last months.
But I think that the S8/S8+ should have come with 7.1.1 out of the box, but glad to see that we get the latest security patches each month.

Yeah, I hope that Samsung gives us the adaptive icons, I love the stock Samsung launcher, but it looks so bad when most of the icons doesn't match the rest of the UI, and not to talk about if you try to use some custom icons from the theme store, that sh*t gets ugly fast.
With regards to app shortcuts, I believe that requires Android 7.1.1/SDK 25 to work correctly...

I agree, kernel changes are important too. It would be great take source code for Oreo S8/S8+ kernel (i.e., when published), add support for various useful stuff, then compile your own modified kernel. International S8/S8+ people are lucky, but US Snapdragon S8/S8+ owners are screwed until bootloader unlock....
as long as knox stays on our phones well never get anything that samsung doesnt publish

Project Treble will not arrive to phones upgrading to O, only phones made for O. (excluding the Pixel).
So this doesn't apply.

Still looking forward to it as well.
And who knows, perhaps Samsung will be nice and do it like the Pixel with full compliance even if they don't have to, but I doubt it.
I think someone will definitely make it for sure.
Hi guys, is it our device S8+ will get android O update?
Is there any ETA for this upgrade.
Pffft. Until Samsung and your carrier announce the date, thus is all pointless speculation.

One thing I missed when I switched from my Galaxy S8 to another phone with AOSP ROM was the edge panel and edge apps. I think it is the only feature worth mentioning.
I searched for ports of the app all around but didn't find anything similar to it. I was just curious why nobody has ported it till now, Or have I just missed it?
+1
Thanks for agreeing. I really hope some Dev ports it to AOSP.
Hi,
My previously smartphone is a galaxy note 8 and I liked one UI interface , status bar, and nav bar, application drawer.
And I would like to know if it is possible to integrate one UI in my OnePlus 7 pro ?
Thank you in advance
Cordially,
I highly doubt it BUT you could probably theme it with substratum if you wanted
No. And prob wont happen, OneUI is a lagfest and wont be a thing developers Will even think about.
Tbh id you liked OneUi u shouldve picked a Samsung for your new device. Oneplus is all about speed, stable + features that doesnt make your phone lag.

It's possible.
You just have to make it.
OneUI has made a LOT of improvements over its previous TouchWiz versions, but OOS is pretty awesome as-is. If you want a OneUI devide, get a Galaxy S10
I've had both, but prefer OnePlus device with OOS ecosystem!
I absolutely agree, I had an S9+ before and after switching to 7 Pro, I couldn't be any happier.
The development support on Galaxies just sucks, manufacturers have made it in a way that people can't but run only stock rom to their satisfaction.
And once you've tripped Knox, that's it, can never use SPay, Health, etc. ever. At least there should be an option to lock bootloader back again. Samsungs just suck big time.

Nothing is impossible, it can happen just like the op6
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/rom-samsung-oneui-t3898627/page14
I had an s9+ for 3 weeks I really tried to like it, gave up and got the 6t then when the S10+ came out I bought it really tried to like it kept it for 2 months got really tied of the fingerprint frustrations and gave it up and got three 7 pro. I liked the S10+ but always missed the 6T. Battery and snappyness. Came to 7 pro and I was like f**k Samsung.
They use older processors, they give you crappy interface. Well I do miss 1 hand operations+. Root sucks on Sammy. Op all the way.
Guys please, he's not asking for a rant about OneUI, hes just asking if a port is possible.
To answer the question, yes it is most likely possible to port OneUI for our phone just like it was done with the MIUI, but it will be the full Samsung System then and no more OxygenOS. Apart from that I doubt that anyone is willing to take the enormous effort that is needed to take such a project
You can install GSI, but I doubt fingerprint, front camera, quick charge,... would work
I am a fan of OneUI but since using Oneplus 7 pro everything has changed .... I vote for Oneplus UI.
do not need One UI ROM, I have ordered the note 10+

Yea, sammy phones are bloated, but actually some features are really nice. If anyone would be able to port the weather widget, or the game launcher, that would be nice.
