[Job Offer] Who knows how to implement this feature in Android? - General Questions and Answers

Hello guys, my name is Ignacio and i own a company that sells phones in Chile.
I need help implementig this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_Broadcast
As probably you know, not every phone has this option and i need someone that knows how we can implement it, mostly on Xiaomi and One Plus phones.
This is a job offer, if someone knows how to do this, i will pay for your time and your work.
Thanks in advance.
This is my whatsapp +56977031932
This is my skype ignacio.o.m

The devices already support it. We'll maybe not xiaomi but most likely. They do as well.
Selling cell phones and doing what you want are two different things. What you want to do is something only the isp can do.

Are you sure?. As far as i know the technology for cell broadcast is in every phone and now with Android 7.0 every phone has the option to turn on or off the cell broadcast. What i need is fairly simple, i just need someone who knows to edit some system options so the cell broadcast cant be turned off.

Well that would just require removing the switch from settings. That will prevent 99% of. People turning it off. This is an easy mod to do really. Might want to check the laws in your country. As in some countries it is illegal not. To give an option to turn it off.

[Q] WP7 phone as a Wi-Fi only device with no cell service?

Hopefully someone can answer this question for me. I was thinking about getting a WP7 device with no cell service at all. I was going to use it as a zune/xbox live device only. My question is will it work with no service and using only Wi-Fi? I know an Android phone can be used as a Wi-Fi only device but a Blackberry cannot. I can't find anything about WP7.
Thanks.
You will be able to use it for everything besides calling & sms (although you could use things like google voice for sms over data). Zune, games, marketplace, pictures/videos/podcasts ect will all work fine.
Cool, does it need a SIM to activate upon startup? or is there no activation?
I didn't put a sim in when I first got the phone, and was able to do everything just fine, although I imagine you will need to sign in with your live ID / hotmail account or whatever to use the zune marketplace.
The answer to your question is yes, you can use it as a Zune/XBox Live device only without cell service.
Regarding activation, there's not really an "activation" per se. The device just checks with Microsoft every time you try to use the Marketplace, Xbox Live, or any other live service that the device has a valid PVK. All WP7 devices have a PVK so there's no "activation" process... you just sign in to your Live ID using WiFi.
Awesome, that's what I wanted to hear.
Thanks guys.
Why would you want to do that? It is a phone so whats the point if not to use as a phone?

That is what my case it, and it is working great!
I have my Diamond that I carry near me when on the go, but mainly use my Focus for everything except calls. Doing this is saving me a lot of money (as I am a Sprint SERO user). But I am 99% sure that I will drop my Diamond once the Arrive comes out, even though I don't like the Arrive formfactor at all.

I have an Incredible on Verizon and would never want to use anything but Android for my phone. However, I love Zune and Xbox Live. What I really want is a Zune device with the same Xbox integration WP7 has. I just don't think it's ever going to happen. So, the only option would be to get a WP7 phone and use it in place of that.
That's my current use case as well for AT&T Focus. Works fine so far except WP7 doesn't connect ah-hoc wifi and I can't sharing internet to it with my WM phone.

Odd. On my Diamond I enable the data sharing hotspot and my Focus is able to connect. I did it a few weeks ago on vacation. It saved me from having to bring my laptop.
don't have a sim in mine never had one in it it works fine, its activated and full of apps. Im gonna later get one of those simple talk ones to try out in it. If they come out with a skype for wp7 may never get one for it. I'm loving it.
I went with the HTC Surround. I figured the extra 8gb and speaker would be nice over the Focus for what I am going to use it for. Thanks again everyone.

Opps. Just found it's working for me now. Maybe last time I didn't test enough. I am happy to have the powerful WM and fun WP7 working together now
I'm using a WP7 device without service too.
Is there anything similar to talkatone for WP7?
Also, when using GoVoice for Google Voice, it seems that every time the device is asleep, wifi turns off. So then I don't get text messages through Google Voice. Is there a way to leave wifi on?

I believe wi-fi stays on only if you're connected to AC power.

2 way call recording

Hi guys does the HTC ONE XL support 2 way call recording by any chance?
Cheers
You mean out of the box (like a built in app?)? If so, then no. I've heard this is illegal is some areas (at least w/o the other party knowing they are being recorded), so I believe manufacturers will not ship with this feature, at least not in the US.

In the US, the laws vary by state. Several states only require one party to consent, i.e. you can record all your calls, and the only thing forbidden is to record a call you're not a party to. Others require all parties' consent. If the call is between more than one state, you'd probably better just have all parties' consent.
I'd kind of like it if incoming callers could hear a quick "this call will be recorded; hang up if you do not consent" message, and to have my phone record everything.
Ok, everytime I get a new phone I go through this...looking for the best way of enabling this and it usually comes along...most recently with rvoix on my EVO 4G, now I have an EVO 4G LTE (I know, I know, but it is basically the same phone so don't call me out) and want to know if anybody has any information about how one might go about getting that to work on this new phone.
And, just for the sake of clarity - please avoid talking incessantly about the legality/legal issues of it - basically, we all know the law or can find out what it is in our area - this isn't a forum for lawyers. It isn't illegal to use the damn software unless you do something illegal with it.
So, on that note...any information?

It wasn't my intent to sound like I was preaching about the law, simply explaining why this type of software is not packed in.
For sake of clarity if you want to use a specific 3rd party app, you should have mentioned it in the OP. OP was very vague. Hard for people to help if you don't tell us what you are looking for.
I guess this question wasn't really directed at USA version of One XL but just one XL in general.
I use the call recorder to take notes when i dont have paper handy. My current phone the incredible S requires a kernel patch to allow it to be used with callrecorder software
the international One X has http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663642
wonder if this works on One XL

[Q] how to quickly check phone is fully functional ?

Hi there, how can u quickly check functionality of used phone
(gnex,ns etc.), i mean gps ,wifi, screen(i know about"pixel screen" app.),
signal strength etc.
I'm asking about checking software not hardware.
Maybe someone has experience in buying second hand phones, so please share your
experience/knowledge..
Thanks in advance
Only buy a used phone that can be rooted so U can change the software and other important phone qualities urself.
Vs Nexus S 4G
To test your device you need to use it in a daily use...

For example if i would like to buy a used Gnex or Ns, how can i check quickly (is there a way?) Software/hardware to be sure I'm buying fully functional phone
I mean mostly things like gps, data connection drops, wifi etc.
If some of u bought a second hand phone (gnex ,ns),
Please share ur experience.

The only to know is to either get some sort of guarantee (if you're buying online) or to test it yourself if you're buying in person. If they won't let you test it then there's probably something they're trying to hide.
are you asking is there an app that does all that for you?
...no
stand there and test it
if the seller doesnt want to wait
you dont want that phone
you cant test data speed etc. without a connection to
your provider
if you have GSM service put your sim in it.
no matter what used CDMA equipment is always
a leap of faith to some degree unless the seller
will let you put it on your account
i'v bought 3 used
only knowing they would power up
and checking the ESN's before purchase
havnt got burned...
...yet

[NEWS] Smartphone Kill Switch July begins 2015

So it's been announced. The Kill switch will be implemented July 2015 KILL SWITCH
For starters this has existed with iPhones for a while and honestly, it seems good but is a wildly suspect move! Why? Because I clearly remember Carriers being against it the idea! EL EVIDENCE. On top of that, the implementation being over a year from now?!?!
Well I said my piece, what are you guys thoughts on this? Good? Bad? Unsure? Complicated? Turkey Sandwich?

They don't like the Kill Switch because it would directly affect their insurance profits.
I've heard from thieves that Android phones are prefered to be chosen for stealing, because iPhones are easily traceable and they lock down in a way that's too hard to workaround, and you'd only need to hard-reset an Android to get it fresh for you.
So, yes, I like the kill-switch

Exactly! Its a great idea for consumers but a hole in the pocket for the phone carriers. I hope we win
The unintended costs when implementing a kill switch is astronomical which is why the carrier's analysis's are telling them no don't do it. Why? Money for most obvious reason and also Stupidity. A decent percentage would be of people who simply lost their phone in their house or car and report it stolen and then brick it via the kill switch... instead of them finding it later it's just money down the drain. Insurance premiums would actually be higher as the property which they are insuring doesn't have a high enough risk mitigation by the kill switch to prevent theft over the cost of having a completely bricked phone. The PR and customer service policies and security protocols are expensive.
I would say a better alternative should exist... eg biometrics so ONLY YOU can operate your phone.

Kill switches aren't actually meant to "kill" the phone. It locks up, and if you recover it, you can unlock it.
Nobody else is able to unlock it using conventional means.

Sure they aren't! Bulletproof vests have limited capacity and only protects a certain region, but it's better to go in a shooting wearing one rather than not!

I get it but the analogy doesn't make too much sense, no offense. a kill switch is ideally supposed to be full proof and not a vest, more like a secret underground lair no one knows about.

Using my analogy, a bulletproof vest will hold most of the bullets that might hit you
But if the guy -really- want to get you, you're screwed.
Same thing. This kill switch only prevents the phone from booting or wiping the ROM using conventional methods, but if the thief -really- wants you phone, he can crack directly at the internal memory using.. Idk forgot the tool, but it's pretty expensive and mostly used to replace internal memories.
But I doubt there will be a robber/tinkerer willing to go all this way for your phone..
So, is it crackable? Yes.
Is it feasible? No.
But if you mean a kill switch, like to really break the phone circuitry.. That wouldn't make sense. Locking the hell out of it renders the phone mostly useless, and if you ever recover it, you can unlock it.
(Also, imagine this button in a country that Apple products have to say they aren't edible..)
Tapatalked thru my CM12 G3!
GUYS how to disable this Kill Switch, it's not allowing me to enter to download mode.
"Download mode is disabled by Kill Switch"

WiFi Calling for T-Mobile US?

The way I understand it, Huawei is working with T-mobile to get Wifi calling working on the Honor 8 (US version) with a future software update. Whether this actually happens remains to be seen. (I believe that ZTE is still trying to get it to work for their Axon 7.)
I wish I would have known this BEFORE I bought the phone. Specs are great otherwise, but no WiFi calling support on a 'flagship' level device such as this is a deal breaker when you have very little carrier signal (any carrier) in your home. Returning and spending the money on a device with support for what has become a basic functionality on any smart phone.

No, it isn't. This misinformed nonsense also needs to stop being repeated and propagated as fact.
The support is either built into the phone software or not. If the carrier supports it then it works. If the carrier does not, then the option does nothing. The feature itself, however, has to be built into the phone's software. My unlocked HTC 10 supports it as do the Nexus phones, both of which are two examples of non-carrier branded phones.

This is the same thing Huawei keeps saying as well, but if the software isn't configured to support it (because the carrier certainly does - On my GS6 with Android 6.0.1 it works just fine - everywhere I have WiFi) it won't work. There's no option in the WiFi menu for WiFi calling, and it's been pretty well documented that they intend to bake this in to the next EMUI update with Nougat. In the mean time, you either deal with the constant ummounting of the SD card and lack of WiFi calling, or take it back for a phone that isn't quite so underwhelming and buggy.

Yes, the availability of the feature set is controlled by the carrier - but if the carrier supports WiFi calling - as T-Mobile / MetroPCS does - it's whether the device hardware and/or software supports the feature that dictates usability. The Honor 8 does NOT support WiFi calling, because EMUI doesn't have the feature enabled. Period. Huawei has said as much.
Look, If Google trusts Huawei to make the Pixel for them (there are a lot of great similarities here), they've got a good thing going. But this is basic device functionality stuff. Are they worried that Pixel sales will be hurt by people buying the Honor 8 if it's fully featured? Hmmm. Wish I'd thought of that. Oh wait. I did.

The biggest issue is getting certified to use WiFi calling which is very hard for China based companies. Not impossible but to be honest I have not seen a single one get certified in the states yet.

My Le Pro3 from Le Eco has Wifi calling. It works better on this than it did the Nexus 5X.
Edit: You're right though. It costs companies time and money to implement it although I wish Huawei was more vocal on this. Their XDA partnership hasn't really impressed me yet.

There is alot of history there with this OEM. They for many years were banned in the US due to security issues and even to this day their devices are not allowed on some military bases. I thought about getting an honor 8 but will have to fill out tons of paperwork to see if I can get it approved due to some places I work.
Done
I just decided it was time to be done and returned the phone. Back to my GS6 after cooking the daylights out of it to remove any condensation from my little one dumping it in the dog drink. Oddly, I had a lot of strange crashes, and exorbitant date usage & GPS locks by Huawei specific apps. Might be on to something there.

No WiFi calling support on Honor 8
Hi Guys, I am T-mobile user and switch to Honor 8 from Motorola Nexus 6 about three months back and after use around week felt that this is the best Phone ever better than iPhone 6S. After few days used this phone found that it's doesn't have WiFi calling feature which does have on Nexus 6 because at my work place very barely T-mobile signals reach. Try to find some blogs and got that will get this feature in next update vEMUI 5.0 with Android 7.0 which i got recently few days back. but still this feature doesn't show up or working at all. now I am feeling like this is the wrong choise coz it not supporting WiFi calling which normally most smartphones does support.
Huwai Team please address this and let us know if any fix is available to overcome this.
