I'm having a problem with the new market app. It sends me notifications for some dating app.
If I go into settings and untick google admob ads it doesn't make any difference.
Any thoughts how I can stop these?
Thanks

Are you sure its the market? How do you know its the market? I noticed ads in the notification bar from a mp3 downloader, but not from the market itself.
No, not certain, but if I click on the notification it opens the market at an app for the dating people. So just a guess
Sounds like you have some kind of rougue app on your phone...Market isn't the problem...you installed another app that has this extra crap in there that tries to get you to install the dating app.
Check the apps youve installed recently and remove them until you find the one causing it

I've been using the apk that was posted here since yesterday with no issues.
Im having a problem with ICS Market. Or 3.2.0. It wont let me purchase any apps. Tried clearing data. Uninstall/reinstall. I can download free apps but get an unmarked error(no info just error) when trying to purchase anything.
Sent from where ever I was when I posted this
(fingers crossed) I think I may have solved it by deleting the Air Hockey app I had downloaded from the market. I think it may have had a little 'extra' item included.
Once I know it's stopped for sure I'll name and shame the app on here... otherwise I'm still looking!
There are a few apps out there that do that, one of them is or was the free
version of a '3' network usage checker. Kept getting push adverts until I
uninstalled the thing.
OK, no more notification pop up adverts, so I'm saying avoid - Glow Hockey 2 -
Thanks for the help guys,

Right, I'm a PowerAMP pro user, but with a pretty old phone. The latest app is working but it's slow and sometimes lags. The poweramp site also offers the old 1.4 version which works right for me. Now, all is fine and dandy but I;m a bit annoyed by the app always showing up there to be updated. So I searched for a method to detach the app from the market and learnt that the bug has been solved long ago and apps can't be detached. So I tried changing the app's signature, of course with no luck, my android dev skills being close to absolute zero.
So I ask you, is there any way to do this? I am not pirating the app, so don't worry
I'm also trying to convince the developer to make an unsigned version of the app specifically for old timers like me, but with no success until now..
Just use LBE Privacy guard and freeze internet connection permission for this particular app..
So it will not connect to net and not telling you that new version is available..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

If it doesnt need to connect to the internet for anything else you could use droidwall to block it from accessing the playstore
If your rooted you could use blackmart to download the app and never have to update it
Or see the updates notifications saying there's an update

I know Titanium Backup can detach apps, though I am not sure if it is available in the free version. However, I do recommend the paid version of Titanium Backup anyway.

I have never been able to make that function actually work and I've tried with several apps that I don't want updates for.

On a related note, is there a way to remove apps from the "My Apps"list? It is really annoying to have to scroll through a list of apps containing tons of apps that you may have tried for a while and then uninstalled when you need to reinstall something. And why is the "My Apps" list in random order and not alphabetical?

As far as I know (and after some quick Googling), there is no way to remove any apps from the giant "My Apps" list. However, I use the Appbrain android market replacement, and it lets you customize your lists and sort them better. You can remove devices from view though.

Where the hell is adaway?
Suddenly Google decided adaway was violating section 4.4 of the developer agreement.. Suuuure. I'm sure there wasn't any pressure from the ads being blocked. I'm sure it was a breech of terms.
You can follow this link to get the blocker. (ironically it's at code. Google.com)
http://code.google.com/p/ad-away/
Lil at the strike
But I just re downloaded a free because of flashing a new ROM. Weird. I really like adfree because it works for apps and browsers. For those who want, guess we could upload the apk

Why can't it be both? Google decided they didn't care about that part of their terms until someone complained. The nice thing about Android is you can install apps from places that AREN'T the Play Store, unlike other platforms, so who cares what they do and don't allow in their store?
The dev has moved AdAway to FDroid:

I love the "other platforms" part. But you are right. I can understand from a dev point of view putting out a free app. But get like SSH droid and revert it. I don't mind reverting it because I can always turn it back on. With great power comes more power.

now adaway & adblock plus is scam
Hi just try to search in play store for adaway & adblock plus and install it via play store and looks like scam to me as instead of blocking ads its bombarding ads and forcing user to rate it 5 star then only user can use it at first start. I guess all the app by this devloper doing the same thing. I don't know how this end up in play store but I think you should update this forume as I adaway is doing different & suspicious things.
That app is not from the developer of Adaway, it's a fake app.

agree, adaway and other ad block apps are no longer available on play store, but still you can download them from any sharing site like 4share etc.
i'm using ViperX4.0.2 on my HTC One X and adaway is preinstalled on ROM and doing great job.
Just download from official repository on f-droid, not file sharing sites. AdAway
For the first time in 6 years of Android phones, I just had an ad pop up in my notifications. It was for the Walgreens drug store app. (An app I do not have installed.)
From googling, it seems it's pushed from an app I have installed, but it should be easy to figure out as I've only installed 2 new apps on this phone that I didn't have on my last phone.
Has anyone else experienced this? What apps have you found that do this?
(This is not cool at all.)

Have you tried turning off the "Show Notifications" for that app through the Apps option in Android Settings?

Do as guyd says. If it happens again with another app and the notification is still there, hold it until it changes, then press the "i" button that appears. From there you can do the same.
Note that you cannot block notifications from most system apps

A typo in my original post must have made it unclear - the ad was for an app that is not installed. I have no idea what app is pushing the ad.

Regardless, if you hold down on the notification it should show you the source app (not the app that is in the ad, but the app that's pushing the ad) and you'll be able to take action by tapping on the "i" button.

If you use Chrome, it could also be the new web notifications feature. Have you visited the Walgreens website in Chrome on the phone?

If that's the case, you can just clear cookies in Chrome. Though that is definitely not a cool thing to happen in the first place.

Ugh. I do use Chrome, but I have not visited the Walgreens website on it. (Or ever, anywhere.) I'll see if removing it helps. Thanks.
So now Chrome isn't only the worst desktop browser, it's the worst Android browser. That's an accomplishment.

The ads come from other apps. Chrome has never placed ads in the notifications. This is done by something built into the apps. I forget what it's called of the bat. Airpush I think. Some apps do this to make money when they are free apps. There is an app that will detect any app that does this. Then just uninstall it. The above device will cancel notifications completely from the app causing it.
Had the exact same experience on both my S6 and my wife's. Something fishy, no indication what app caused it.
What carrier are you on? I am on Sprint, and their bloatware apps "Sprint Zone" and "Sprint Fun & Games" like to advertise apps in the notification bar every now and then. I hate it, because there is no way to disable the apps unless I root.

Sprint as well. That's unfortunate as this will be my first non-rooted phone due to Samsung Pay. I was hoping android/Sumsung had come far enough that I didn't need to root/rom, but it looks like I'm in for a frustrating experience.

I think maybe so. I took a screenshot of one today. (I don't know how many have some through as I often just swipe off notifications without looking at them. This was at least the second one today, as right after I swiped one of them away, I decided to make a conscious effort to screenshot the next.) I forgot to press/hold until the "i" shows up to see app info. I'll have to remember that for next time.
Sprint - Featured Apps <-- That's the culprit. You'll want to disable notifications on that application in the settings menu, under all apps, or uninstall it, which is what I did.

Thanks. Also, mine showed the option for uninstall, and it seems to have done so. I wouldn't be surprised it if auto-reinstalls, though. Hopefully this works. THANKS!
Its from Sprint Featured Apps. Block its notifications. It can also be uninstalled from Applications>all>uninstall.
I had that same thing happen with my samsjng galaxy s6 from Sprint. Its infuriating adware bloatware.

You've probably installed some application not from Google Play. You should check for any sketchy apps running in the background.

Im a complete newby with android. The only suspiciou thing i can find is configAPK? This has no icon either.
I found this in Settings > Apps
Provide a list of all 3rd party apps you installed.
ES File Explorer is one of the apps that does this, uninstall it if found.
If the pop-up shows up press the recent button in navigation bar so you can see the title of the application.
BTW, try this ad blocker. It worked for all applications on my phone. No root needed.

Also read description and user feedback 1st before download.
I had loads of ads popping up, but now I'm rooted with Adhell, Adguard and Adblockplus installed.
that = bye bye ads..lol.:good:
Matt
I encountered a similar problem and it wasn't related to downloading an application. Somehow got directed to one of those click here to win web pages, then shortly after a similar ad would pop up randomly when browsing on Chrome. Since this is the first phone I had without adaway didn't realize websites I use to go to had this redirection.
I think what happens is either a cookie or a notification is made on the browser app. After reseting the phone, installing adhell, disabling notifications for Chrome/Samsung internet haven't encountered the problem.
You could install the official AdBlock extension for the Samsung browser...
I got loads of ads pop up after installing movie hd
Caused by Samsung
This is without a doubt caused by samsung. I "Upgraded" from a nexus 6p to a s8 active last week and actually have less third party apps than before. I NEVER had full screen pop up ads before the switch. Same carrier, same number, same Google account, etc.
I just can't figure out how to stop it yet.

I had the same problem with my note 8. What you have to do is go into settings and open up your app list. At the very bottom of the list of apps you'll see something that doesn't have an icon. It's a piece of adware from one of those popup ads that says you want something from Amazon. Just delete it. No need to factory reset

But where is the "Recent button" and the "Navigation bar"? I should know, I've owned several Galaxy S series phones over the years.
