How to detach an app from the Play Store - General Questions and Answers

Right, I'm a PowerAMP pro user, but with a pretty old phone. The latest app is working but it's slow and sometimes lags. The poweramp site also offers the old 1.4 version which works right for me. Now, all is fine and dandy but I;m a bit annoyed by the app always showing up there to be updated. So I searched for a method to detach the app from the market and learnt that the bug has been solved long ago and apps can't be detached. So I tried changing the app's signature, of course with no luck, my android dev skills being close to absolute zero.
So I ask you, is there any way to do this? I am not pirating the app, so don't worry
I'm also trying to convince the developer to make an unsigned version of the app specifically for old timers like me, but with no success until now..

Just use LBE Privacy guard and freeze internet connection permission for this particular app..
So it will not connect to net and not telling you that new version is available..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

If it doesnt need to connect to the internet for anything else you could use droidwall to block it from accessing the playstore

If your rooted you could use blackmart to download the app and never have to update it
Or see the updates notifications saying there's an update

I know Titanium Backup can detach apps, though I am not sure if it is available in the free version. However, I do recommend the paid version of Titanium Backup anyway.

I have never been able to make that function actually work and I've tried with several apps that I don't want updates for.

On a related note, is there a way to remove apps from the "My Apps"list? It is really annoying to have to scroll through a list of apps containing tons of apps that you may have tried for a while and then uninstalled when you need to reinstall something. And why is the "My Apps" list in random order and not alphabetical?

As far as I know (and after some quick Googling), there is no way to remove any apps from the giant "My Apps" list. However, I use the Appbrain android market replacement, and it lets you customize your lists and sort them better. You can remove devices from view though.

Thanks, I will definitely look into that and continue to research the issue as well. If I find any other solutions, I won't hesitate to post an update.

Some apps no longer accessible in the market - uk

Hi folks,
I'm just wondering of there's a reason why I can't access some apps I was able to find before in the market?
Quick Settings, Launcherpro beta, Adw launcher, Zeam, etc, are nowhere to be find now...
I've got some of them on my download page on the market app and I also wonder if I can still access the updates.

think its a problem your end as I can findthen no problems..... Am uk..

Thanks for the reply. Ill try to find out.
Maybe your market access keys are incorrect because you have installed a custom rom? For example, test versions from Huawei have test keys installed that will not list all applications. You need to use proper release keys provided by carrier.
Thanks speckles, you point a different possible problem. Even if I don't have a custom rom: just a Milestone 2.1 rooted.
You need to use proper release keys provided by carrier.

Well, I think that I have the proper one for I didn't changed it. Can you tell me how can I check this? (I've got still a lot to learn.)
I have been reading a little on old and similar problems, often related issues with protected app, like paid/protected app on rooted phones - and regardless to the models, countries, carriers, and maybe even to the versions.
I am not sure to be concerned, I mean it's a bit different in my case. For instance, I have Tapatalk pro installed and which is protected but I can still find it on the market (I mean outside of the download tab).
So far, my problem only concerns some free apps.
There were from long time app that I wasn't able to find on the market (like TV.com), by example when using appbrain. But now, that's the first time I can't find apps I had already downloaded and that I've got installed. (I spotted the problem while recommending apps to a friend who's got a Desire since a few days. He was himself unable to find them, like Quick settings.)
Edit --
Scanning a barcode pointing on the apps in the market do not work as well.
Some solutions points to the build.prop:
Root your phone and modify your /system/build.prop with the fingerprint of a build that actually works. Then clear all data and cache from the market and google apps, reboot, set your clock to 23:59 and wait 5 minutes to force a refresh of the data before starting the Market app. You'll have to supply your Google account details again but this should work around the problem.

Useful as well:
From MasDroid, on XDA -14th April 2010, 08:59 PM
I've read about this issue which was recently explained by a developer of XDA (nprussell).
Apparently everyone is in the same boat so to speak. He states that many "protected" apps are missing from the market. There are generally two reasons why apps will be missing from the market:
When a new ROM or handset is released, the manufacturer (i.e. HTC), sends the build to Google for verification, which includes a 'Fingerprint' (a unique line of text which governs its market access) in one of the build files. Generally, it states the name of the phone and Android version in the fingerprint. With Root & System write access, this fingerprint can be changed, but although it's been claimed that the Desire has recently been Rooted, we still don't have confirmation from any developer of it being able to gain System write access.
Only until Google approve the build, then fingerprint will be added to their allowed database to view these protected apps on the market.
The other cause for apps missing from the market in builds is because of permissions of certain apps. For example, the barcode scanner app requires permissions to use the camera/auto focus. They are NOT protected apps. If the XML permission files are missing from system/etc/permissions, then Google Market will simply block these apps from showing.
HTC need to chase Google up on this and Google need to activate the Fingerprint.

Edit 2 --
I have tried to replace my build.prop (using one from a Telus Milestone) but nothing has changed. Maybe I need to erase the market's data as told in the second quote but I'm not sure to know how to do it.
I have the same problem. (Htc desire Vodafone/the Netherlands/original ROM) There was an OTA update few days a go. After that most of the installed apps couldn't be found. It seems that this affected a lot of people...check the comments on launcherpro an adw launcher websites

If you have edited your build.props, then it can take upto 24 hours for them to be published to the market. So wait a few days.
If it still doesn't work, try Eris Market Fix after doing a nandroid backup. Again, you may have to wait about 24 hours before noticing any changes.
I think i have same problem here. Finland/HTC Desire/Stock ROM.
There should be LauncherPro in market right? Had to dl new one from LP's site.
I have got everything back and I'm still using the same build.prop. So I believe that the market had been fixed.
Hope it's the same for you!

[Q] Market - details page cannot be found

Transformer just arrived. All set up and using my existing Google Account.
However, if i click on any paid apps in the market it states 'Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found' ....
Its let me sync all my other apps, including paid ones, and it recognised my ID ...
what am i missing ??
There are a couple of other threads open on this, it seems that from yesterday some users are starting to experience the same market issues. I have the same problem and it started this morning, i don't think its a problem with your account or set up. I have emailed Google apps, awaiting their reply or a fix from other users.
If I were a betting person I'd say we're not far off an update of the market that will add a proper tablet specific section, just like itunes has for iphone/ipad apps, as any time an app is reported a few times that it's crashing/FC'ing in honeycomb, it seems to get blocked for tablet installations. So maybe it has something to do with a google reshuffle of the way apps are viewed.

You could be right but it is not affecting incompatible apps, it is any paid app, i have installed a few from your thread prior to this issue and now cannot install new ones you have added as compatible e.g. backup pro.

Yeah but I'd assume paid apps were on different servers, as they would have more encrypted data, so possibly one section could be affected while the other remains untouched during an upgrade.

Mmm... possibly, will have to wait and see, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just started getting this today too :-(
I was getting this quite a bit last night, but it wasn't only for paid apps. Some free ones had the problem as well. My workaround for a paid app that I hadn't yet purchased was to buy it on my computer and it was automatically sent to my device.
I got it only once today, don't remember which app. But it has worked fine generally.
I got this message on a few different apps last night. I was able to get around it by either hitting the back button instead of OK in the popup. Or by going to the market through the browser and pushing the app to my device. The market app for HC is really lacking at this point. You can't even review apps. Hopefully they will update soon.

I'm getting this too.
Temporary solution is to download any app from market.android.com and have it manually download from your browser to your tablet.
I can't install from the market web app - get a notice that I "have not opened the market recently on this device" (which I have - I'm in it now..)

Missing Market Apps

Hi all, I have read a lot about missing apps in the market, but it seams to me that there is an unusually high number missing from my rooted Kindle....
Could someone please confirm if the following apps are also missing from their market?
Be Weather
Weather Bug
Go Launcher EX
Dolphin Browser HD
Weight Watchers Mobile (the official app)
I see themes for a lot of these, but not the main apps.
Also, I tried the fix.apk file that I have used on my phone, but it didn't get me what I was hoping for. Thanks
Don't have a fire yet, but can confirm from a few other places that these were removed from the Amazon marketplace for the Fire. You can still sideload them though. Seems this was done a few days ago once everyone started posting that this was a way to get rid of the carousel.
I noticed that, too. There's obviously some sort of filtering going on.

Not on mine either. Perhaps since the Fire isn't one the "compatible" list they are not even available to download.

i have go launcher ex and dolphin hd running right now. I did sideload them, i just did it when i was sideloading all the google apps and such. You might do some apk searches on the web. Otherwise it may take a couple weeks for them to be available for the fire (widgetlocker has already updated for the fire, for example).
The Android Market does not contain all of the available apps. It only contains apps that are compatible for your device. So if you have a Kindle Fire it will only show you apps they are compatible with the KFire. That does not mean that you cannot sideload those apps from the Internet.
But, not all sideloaded apps work though.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
When I first got my Kindle, I was able to download Go Launcher Ex from the App Store, then when I had a friend get it, it was gone. Ended up sideloading it, but yes, there appears to be a filter.
It really would be quite awesome if there was a way to override this filtering in the android market for those that are rooted. I would love to take my chances.
Google Voice App Receives, but no way to send texts
I read through all FOUR pages of the Kindle Fire forum but did not see anything about this.
I have successfully installed (side loaded) Google Market and Maps on a rooted Fire. I also installed Google Voice (all apk's from my EVO).
GV runs and displays incoming texts, but there is no way to write or send a text. When you click on a text conversation, it opens but there is no text box to write in.
Clicking menu does not give a "compose" option.
Since GV sends texts over the Internet, I am puzzled why this does not work.
I downloaded another texting app and that one does work, but it gives you yet another "phone" number, which just confuses my contacts (they dont know who is texting them).
Anyone got GV working?

Autostarts!

I'm not sure if everybody uses this, but Autostarts is one of my favorite root apps and I recommend it to all of my friends who have rooted. I don't see too many people talking about it anymore so I figured I would remind everyone of this awesome app. It allows you to prevent any apps from running on their own. After using Titanium Backup to debloat my ROM, I then open up Autostarts and run down the list and disable any apps that I don't want to startup without my say so. It does wonders for freeing up RAM. I did this on my Epic 4G Touch and never needed to flash a single custom ROM because I was able to get the stock ROM running flawlessly. It is an invaluable tool to me and I recommend it highly.

no, it will not. more importantly, google maps is a battery hog, and a privacy killer, and it is also unable to be killed. not by gemini app manager, nor in conjunction with autostarts. google maps will report everywhere you go, and there is nothing you can do about it.
if only someone (windows maybe?) would come out with a nifty phone and declare "Hey we won't sell your soul!" i would so be on board. HTC is slowly drowning themselves, so i am finally, after 6 years, ready to move on to a new brand, and wouldn't mind leaving google behind.

Thanks man.:good:
If your interested I managed to disable Maps from always being on the background on my system . What I did? Used Titanium Backup (Pro edition) to convert it to a user app (because it needs to be so, for the next step). After, used a free app called Greenify (you may find it on the Play Store), to "hibernate" Maps at boot time. Result: No more Google Maps on the background . This app is great! You should give it a try. Maybe you may keep your HTC a few more years using it
Unfortunatly trying the same for Google Play messes with its app update functions... that is why I ask.
Hope it helps you on the Maps issue.
Any other ideas anyone?
i use gemini app manager itll stop it all but also remember that certain actions also stop it from updating the market so be careful which autostart functions u stop: although there are more than just at boot for most apps

Mine is already a user app..?
imma reinstall autostarts see if it has stopped working correctly. i know many instances can trigger apps so you can't just disable on startup for it not to run. but i remember disabling maps in like 3-4 places and it stopped starting unless i told it to start.
I have maps disabled completely in both autostarts and Gemini app manager. And maps is still my #1 battery drain. often my phone displays the gps signal when I wake it up, even though I haven't used maps in days.

You may use both in conjunction. Hell, I´m using Autostarts, Autorun Manager (for its simplicity) and Greenify. You just have to know what apps/events are disabled/enabled in them.
Greenify is a little diferent in the way that it hibernats apps when they are not being used/when with the screen off. It works of boot and is really pretty helpfull on those "stubburn" apps that do wish to always remain in the background. With Greenify on they are gone! For good .
Check it on Play Store for more info. Older versions seemed to have some issues with superuser access, with the new one, that seems fixed. It is a great app IMO, saves LOTS of battery and enables a little more ram available for things that do matter (good specially for phones with low RAM memory chips). In the case of your phone you will mainly notice an improvement in battery life, since RAM seems not an issue.
You should try it out

Maps, as you said, has got several instances and events triggered for the most crazy things (at least in my book - since I do not need many of them), and that was why it still kept restarting even after all events disabled (there should be hidden ones related to other apps still operating in a complex interconection). At least that is how I imagine it was working. Greenify manages to hibernate it altogether (Titanium style), with the advantage of being "quicker" "unhibernating" it when needed. No complains for me so far
Glad it helped. It seems an excelent app!
See you:good:
Re: Greenify
Just bought titanium backup pro to use in conjunction with Greenify. $6 to stop maps and facebook from eating half of my battery. Totally worth it IMO.
Kudos to whoever suggested the app first.

Apps installing by themselves

Hey I was wondering if anyone else has had apps install by themself, over the past few days a couple of apps have somehow showed up on my home screen. They don't show up under the app drawer or under apps in settings. Also ever since these started coming thru I keep getting notifications for other stuff like "lose belly fat" and "job offers starting at $325 and hour". I'm currently running aokp m6 if it helps. I've done a full wipe and it stopped for a day and then came back. I'll post some screen shots of the apps.
P.s. the ones installing automatically are the last three above the PayPal widget.

I too had some Apps install on their own. But they were apps I had before I attempted a NANDROID Restore, which for some odd reason failed and killed my Boot. So I was forced to re-flash my stock boot/ROM on my S3 (AT&T Flavor) and repeat the Rooting process. But once I started looking through my app drawer, some of these apps were being re-installed. Odd, perhaps some internal back-up that I'm not aware of on ICS.
Yea these are random apps that aren't even from the play store. When I click on them they open the browser and take me to a page to sign up for a subscription.

I'm having this issue but its legit apps keep "updating" themselves baxk after I uninstall them
ie: bbm, flashify, (more I can't think off atm)
Some of the apps has Adware build in it, which means if you download the App, it will spam your Home screen full.
You can fix this problem by manually delete it everytime, to fix it permantly you need to delete the app.

Update: still happening. Resorting to auto update off and still having to stop installs... Something to do with rebooting, or its triggering it
