adfree/adaway/ad blockers in general are missing from play store - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Where the hell is adaway?
Suddenly Google decided adaway was violating section 4.4 of the developer agreement.. Suuuure. I'm sure there wasn't any pressure from the ads being blocked. I'm sure it was a breech of terms.
You can follow this link to get the blocker. (ironically it's at code. Google.com)
http://code.google.com/p/ad-away/

Lil at the strike
But I just re downloaded a free because of flashing a new ROM. Weird. I really like adfree because it works for apps and browsers. For those who want, guess we could upload the apk

Why can't it be both? Google decided they didn't care about that part of their terms until someone complained. The nice thing about Android is you can install apps from places that AREN'T the Play Store, unlike other platforms, so who cares what they do and don't allow in their store?

The dev has moved AdAway to FDroid:

I love the "other platforms" part. But you are right. I can understand from a dev point of view putting out a free app. But get like SSH droid and revert it. I don't mind reverting it because I can always turn it back on. With great power comes more power.

now adaway & adblock plus is scam
Hi just try to search in play store for adaway & adblock plus and install it via play store and looks like scam to me as instead of blocking ads its bombarding ads and forcing user to rate it 5 star then only user can use it at first start. I guess all the app by this devloper doing the same thing. I don't know how this end up in play store but I think you should update this forume as I adaway is doing different & suspicious things.

That app is not from the developer of Adaway, it's a fake app.

still using adaway
agree, adaway and other ad block apps are no longer available on play store, but still you can download them from any sharing site like 4share etc.
i'm using ViperX4.0.2 on my HTC One X and adaway is preinstalled on ROM and doing great job.

Just download from official repository on f-droid, not file sharing sites. AdAway

Any way to get rid of ads when not rooted ?

I know an app that blocks ads but it needs root so I was wondering is there a way to hock them without root.

Anyway, the blocking of ads is illegal, I believe...or at least frowned upon. It's the same as pirating an app.

How is it illegal? The wouldnt be adblock extention for google Chrome or adfree on the market. It's far from pirating, you choose NOT to use instead of USE.

But blocking of ads in adblocker isn't the same...you don't need any form of root for it.
Android adblocking is different, because you need root to do it and it deprives developers of money...ads are only ever in free apps, and most of the time those apps have a paid form. If you don't like the ads in an app, go buy the app. Don't be a cheapskate by just blocking the ads.

In the US rooting a phone is not illegal.
http://www.androidguys.com/2010/07/26/rooting-android-phone-longer-crime/
Blocking ads is no different than muting my TV when ads come on, or using an ad blocker in a web browser. A developer also developed the ad blocker.
You may not like it, or the people who use them, but it's not illegal.

Might not be illegal, but it's not right.
It's a completely different matter from muting the TV when ads come on. With adblocking in apps, you are pretty much stealing from the developer. As I said, if you want to get a version of the app without ads, pay for the app and support the developer. Don't be a complete cheapskate and just block the ads.
And how do you suggest people outside the US can get rid off the ads in Angry Birds as an example?
Get Market Enabler (can't do that if we're not rooted, sadly ) or use the Amazon Appstore outside of the US by following this guide: http://android.modaco.com/content/s...tore-from-outside-the-us-including-paid-apps/

So by watching tv without looking at the ads I'm stealing from the networks right?
Good luck with that.
If your only means to compensation is through methods most consumers feel negatively about then you are in trouble to begin with. People will always support products and services they find value in. Annoying ads(not all ads) in applications are an impediment to my finding value in them. Every content creator says the same thing about their content and ad revenue - tv, radio, developers, bloggers, newspapers ad infinitum. It's just one method of generating revenue. There are others which somehow manage to make money.

Can you buy Angry Birds from Market in the US? I can download it, but not buy it to get rid of the ads.
And do you really mean I have to go to hell and back again just to support a stupid company that doesn't allow me to buy the game because I don't live in the US?
I have Amazon Appstore and know it's a pain in the ass to get working. Made it work just to get rid off commercial actually, but I mean people shouldn't have to go trough such a hassle to be legal. I buy the apps I can, but for the rest I used to use adfree.

Not always possible, if the developer doesn't make something available ad free in your country, eg Angry Birds.
I know there are ways around it, Market Enabler for example, but it shouldn't have to be that way!
Whilst blocking the ads isn't nice on apps from some developers, sometimes they should offer an AdFree version or not include so many ads. If I developed a free Android app, the ads just ruin it in my opinion.
Lads, what are you arguing about? IIRC no one gets money from ads if its not clicked on. And who clicks on ads? So adfree is there just to take away visual presence, it's not stopping you from clicking an app, which no one does anyway.

I think your logic is flawed.
First, I'm pretty sure developers only get paid if I actually click on an ad. So by your logic not clicking is stealing. If I never click then blocking the ads or not has no financial impact on the developer, thus isn't stealing.
Second, you can say muting a TV ad isn't the same, but I think it is. So is fast forwarding through ads with my DVR, and tossing junk mail without reading it, and signing up for a do-not-call list blocking telemarketers.
Third, clicking or not clicking or blocking ads costs me nothing, so I'm not a cheapskate no matter what I do. If a developer creates a limited app and I want the extra features I pay for it. So I do financially support developers who create apps I want.
I've contributed to the thread hijack enough. It's ok if we agree to disagree.
Note: My phone isn't rooted so I don't block ads, but I do on my PC, and I do all the other ad avoidance things I mentioned.

To be honest the Dec should make a paid version with more features than just remove ads. I block ads because I don't want animated gifs of mobile contracts plastered on my phone. If an app is good I buy it. I don't pirate them but equally I wont pay just to remove ads. Also there are those apps that have ads and no way to pay to remove them.
Good devs get paid for their work. Simple as that. Just like good films get bought and good computer games sell loads too.

There is nothing noble about ads. Ya Devs should be paid, but forcing ads on someone is a horrible way to make that money.
All ya have to do is go into Airplane mode.... And ads go bye bye
Well it seems I'm getting flamed here. But I still think you shouldn't rip devs off for their work by just blocking the ads.
I agree to disagree with you guys and I think a mod should close the thread
Well Damn! I wasn't trying to start a war. Don't get me wrong I pay for the apps I use its just those few that you can't enjoy because half it screen is covered in bs.

So while we are on this subject, how are not allowed to post cracked apps? While I am against it the reasoning doesn't work. I don't see a request for an alternative site as a request for hacked/stolen etc apps..
Unlocking features omitted for marketing purposes that are free elsewhere on the same app is a little bit of a grey area
Also the need for a major alternative freeware shareware app site is definite..

I'm also looking for a LEGIT alternative to the Google Play Store because I sometimes have DPI issues with the market and it gives compatibility errors. I want to clarify this, I just want another place to download .apks that are free on the market that isn't a shady DDL I found on google.
Guys, don't judge, it's possible the OP lives elsewhere where the entire play store is not available and he wants an app. That is a perfectly fine reason for piracy in my book.

There is nothing wrong with requesting free apps apk files, (though I highly recommend doing it in there Q&A section, not android apps & games) just look at this here. On there other hand, paid app apks, cracks to free apps to make then act like paid apps, or cracking apps to defrauded a company (i.e. The dropbox hack) all are considered Warez.
Also, app markets that do not link to Google Play (i.e. App Brainz links to Google play for downloads) are considered Warez markets & won't be tolerated.

Also: For anybody having DPI issues, have you tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDEsImNvbS5iaXJkYXBpLmFuZHJvaWQuZHBpcHJvIl0. (To install it set dpi to normal for your device, delete market data/cache, reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache & then download from market, it'll let you change dpi without issues (so it says, I haven't tested it))
There's a new dropbox hack out there for 50gb for two years using sgs3 files. But I understand what you all are saying

If you're phone is rooted you can try AdFree: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5iaWd0aW5jYW4uYW5kcm9pZC5hZGZyZWUiXQ..
This is by far the most effective adblocking app.
I use AdAway from the Play Store, does the job for me. Any ad blocker will do though, as long as you're rooted.
Also, if the app doesn't require the Internet then you can turn the data connection off when using it. I used to do that with Angry Birds before I rooted my phone.

Use a firewall (e.g. Droidwall), set filtering to "whitelist" and only allow those applications that really must have internet access. That will not only block ads but also prevent apps from phoning home other sensitive data. Of course, you need a rooted device for this.
Try Adfree friend.. you can download in play store!

play store has removed ad removing apps?
Hmm, it looks like the ad removing apps are gone from the play store (which I guess I understand from googles point of view - they probably get a few pennies for these ads also).. Is there another place to get these? Amazon app store has "ad-blocker pro", but the 3 reviews all say it doesn't work..
Is there non-store place for some of these.. We can load a rom yet with ads removed for the LG Motion 4G, but removing the ads would be good enough for me

For AdAway, check F-Droid. AdFree can be found at the Adfree Android Homepage.
As both work using a modified /etc/hosts file, one could also manipulate that manually. But that would be quite a hazzle :silly:

Not all ads are from services like Google. Some are built into the app (for example, between turns or levels or attempts). I don't know how Crunchy Roll works - I looked it up on Play, and it looks like the premium service is the way to get rid of ads. So it's probably something on their (server) end that eliminates ads, rather than a paid version of the same app.

Not sure if this is too late, but when Crunchyroll first released their android app, they made a mistake. The app did not display any ads at all. Even though you should always update your apps, I kept this one out dated solely because it does not show any ads.

Just install the app called YouTube Vanced from their website. It will just skip right over the ads like they're not even there. You'll need to install that plus MicroG in order to be able to login.. IF you use and have Google Chrome browser running you need to force stop it and disable it until you're done signing in otherwise the sign in will just sit there and not work.. You can enable it again after it's installed and you're logged in to.. Choose one of the NON ROOT versions and install both YouTube Vanced and MicroG found here. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/773e97cz2ezx1/AddFree_Youtube_BackgroundPlay_Enabled
They released a manager (check their website) so you can check for updates and install the app and requirements easily.

When you use either samsung internet or beta ver., in their bucket under app settings they call ad-ons, there is an ad-block app selection called ad-block for YouTube(you'll see it in the drop-down menu), and that's probably the same one the other gentleman already responded to you with?

My advice would be plain and simple.
Use Samsung Internet Browser.
I know it's not perfect, but for me not bad at all.
I'm sure it's a good alternative.?
I really got so fed up with YouTube ads that i looked for a good straight forward alternative...
(I also did not want to use YouTube Vance etc..)
Saw remarks about Samsung internet browser,
started using it,
Very surprised, it was fast smooth etc.
With Samsung offering , free to install, add ons, to the browser....
AdBlockers and also a free to install, YouTube AdBlocker,
See screenshot.
i must admit i have not seen one advert, when browsing YouTube.
Note
I'm logged into YouTube with my Google account.
So my advice is to use Samsung Internet Browser
to browse YouTube until you get a better option.?
Good luck.

Vanced...since years now..another reason for sticking to android
Click to collapse
This and notifications making me stick with Android ..
Cercube is available on iOS too . IN jb you can install tweak in even latest version of youtube app.
The beauty of vanced if you turn your screen times off
YouTube will continue to play
Perfect for me as I do a lot of driving...
Just tried it with Samsung browser screen times out youtube stops playing
Something for you to maybe think about?
I use YouTube Premium to block all ads while still supporting my favorite creators.
Vote for Vanced. The latest version has an option to remove (+) button even. It allows to hide all these distracting tiles, gifs, stories etc, leaving the pure video clips only.
I'm a long time Adguard user, no adds in apps, browser, nowhere
