[Q] Why Megaupload?

Hey there xda-dwellers. I hope I've chosen the correct forum for this question.
I've always wondered - whenever I go to download a new ROM for whatever phone I have at the time, ROMs are always hosted on Megaupload / Rapidshare (or something along those lines). Why?
Is it because most developers lack the resources to push out enough bandwidth to satisfy downloaders such as myself? It it more convenient to use these sites? Or does it have something to do with legal issues?
Just trying to think of a way I can give back to the community. If it's out of a lack of bandwidth, I may be able to help.

Most devs don't have their own servers or websites not all are Megaupload. Also some just use it as another way to push it out if its super popular. Least thats what I have viewed.

Its rather that even if they have the servers why should they use them to distribute 100MB ROM files to thousands of peoples, they don't sell the ROMs, they offer them for free, no income from that...
So they would have to pay money for bandwidth so people can download their free ROMs...

Maybe they just aren't aware of the better alternatives like minus.com or Google Docs.

I've got the resources to offer the storage and bandwidth for free to developers. Would any developers be interested or actually use this? I have a vision for creating a central location where developers can post their ROMs for quick, direct downloads from a dedicated server.
I just need to get some people on board and involved. I think it'd be a great thing for the community, personally, but I want to hear the community's opinion before I put hours of work into it.

I signed up willingly. What information could they possibly want from me? Credit cards? They have that. Browsing history? Who cares, Google collects that anyway.
The way I see it is I have a $700 tablet, and I live and work on a college campus. If my device is stolen, I'm glad they provide this service.

It's not just that. It can be remotely locked and much more. I don't like being spied on. It's up to you, really, let's not discuss this one again. There's plenty of discussion on it in the original thread on the device tracker.

Sorry its a dev conmunity? They cant let you market or advertise other web links. You can just share you oem products in accessories forum.

I am not selling any products on my website - it is a phone development and review website that is why I want traffic / users on my website who knows about mobile development etc..my website is like mobile dev community..

Your best way to get traffic from this site is to have your site linked in your signature as well as being an active user. By active user I mean someone with genuine answers, questions or development related content. People will get to know you and likely follow on to your site.
You'd be better off for advertising using Google+ or Facebook and gaining users via that route, far easier and quicker at gaining a user base there (included Facebook tough it is not as useful any longer due to the targeted posts, I know longer use it myself either).

Simple answer is no. Had you read the rules you would have known that you can not advertise here.

[Q] Lookin for freelance App developer

Hi Everyone,
This is my first ever post, so please go easy on me! I am sorry if this is missed placed, if so please may you kindly direct me to the right place.
I have an idea for an app and was wondering if i could find someone interested in developing and bringing it to life. The main platform to start with would preferably be on android, then cross platform from there.
I have a few channels to market it once it is born and grow it with no problems.
I am willing to pay however the simple fact that i am searching in a forum instead of going direct to a company should say alot about my financial situation However the more it grows the more money we will make. (maybe a percentage agrrement on sales)
I will say it is a complex idea and will require an advanced developer.
I am looking for someone who loves what they do.

Ask them why it's gone. Stealing our hard work and 'open sourcing it' does not count as development. But I guess since the cat is out of the bag, you might as well go find it yourself.
