Camera Focus Problem - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Anyone's camera having trouble focusing more than a few inches from the camera? In monochrome mode, it focuses fine, but in regular camera or video mode, mine can't focus properly. I tried resetting the camera app, but that didn't help.

Yeah, having the same issues on our Mate 9 (Chinese Version) since the latest patch for EMUI 5.0... We tried a factory reset but nothing worked so far. Hoping for a fix soon...

I sent mine in to Huawei for repair last week. Waiting to hear back if it will be a repair or replacement. While I was waiting for the shipping label, there was a day where it started working, but then it stopped again.

Also noticed that the focus works fine for close objects, just everything farther away than about half a meter gets blurry... I dearly hope its just a software issue instead of a hardware error...

That was the same with mine. Factory reset didn't help. When I first got it, I actually had the opposite problem but thought I just needed to put macro mode on.
I got my phone secondhand so I don't know if it came like that. The one day it worked again, it did seem like it was slightly blurry though.

Has there been any update on these issues?
My ADM mate 9 has the same issues as above.

Mine arrived there almost 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting. It's been almost 2 weeks since I got an email from the repair center saying they're looking at it. CS seems disconnected from the repair center and can't give any kind of estimate.

Received a replacement phone today so I'm not sure what the actual problem was. I'm pretty sure I only got the replacement because I called to complain that it had been a month. It's probably better that I got a replacement instead of a repair though.

Did you read my post above? They sent me a replacement so I don't know what the fix is. My guess is it's a hardware problem though. Going through warranty if it's available to you is the best option. It may be a long painful process like it was for me though.

All with camera focus problem are with Chinese version of Mate9?

Mine is US. I don't know what versions other people have.

I'm having the exact same issue, with monochromatic looks perfect. But in the rest modes look awful

Our phone was sent in as RMA too, the seller confirmed the hardware problem and repaired it apparantly, just received a noticed that its done and will be sent on its way back to us... I will report if it seems like an actual repair or a replacement, took about 3 weeks + about a week for shipping to china. Lets hope that problem doesnt affect all mate9

You do know that the mate9 has 2 different camera modules, one color and one monochromatic? If it would be a software issue, there wouldnt be any need for repair/replacement, just an update...

I have the same problem. After searching online for this issue, I realized that it's a hardware issue with the color camera. If I smack the phone, while the camera app is on, the camera is able to focus a bit better. Not 100% though. Very annoying... BTW, I'm on the US version with the B190 build.

I've solved my problem Debranding the phone. Mine was mate 9 pro Chinese version lon al00. Now I'm on Lon al29. Europe Version. With the bootloader unlocked and a debranded from funky huawei. Thanks a lot to all

P10 cannot focus

Camera problem

Hi, I've got a problem with my H8. The camera is basically really good - but only if the ratio 4:3 is configured. When I configure 19:6 (nothing else), a weird grid is shown on the photo. A grid is visible on the view before the photo is taken and on the photo either. I tried restore the app, download third parties apps and factory reset too, but no change. What's wrong?

I think you opened the assertive grid on the camera function. To shut it down: open the camera app->draw right to open the settings->assertive grid->off. Hope can help you!

I did some small investigation and I'm the only one with this problem. But I found a thread here with the same issue, seems to be some SW problem...
There are 2 other members with the same problem.

Nothing yet, honor have no comment about this issue
just FYI - today I got new phone (black version) and it has the same issue. I checked all Honor 8s in the showroom and only black ones had this "bug". Seems to be black Honor 8 related bug.

That's a big issue, but honor released an update for the US version, if someone got it here and have the issue, I'll ask him whether its fixed or not, and I'll report back

Some Italian members reported this issue to honor, it said an update is coming

Multitouch Problem

I just bought my nokia 3 yesterday
anyone getting multitouch problem?
like in moba when i walk i cant use my skill
this only occurs in the bottom and top part of the screen in landscape
running on android 7.0

should i update it to fix the problem?

Contacted support and said that NOKIA 3 has only multitouch in the middle of the screen

No you are not the only one there are a lot of complains in Nokia community forum about this. And by the way I too have the same problem so I don't feel like playing games on my Nokia 3.I am running on the latest version 7.1.1 and the problem is still there.

the nokia support said that they will investigate it
and if the limitation is software base ,it will be fixed ,however ,if it is hardware limit it will not be able to be fixed

If it was only a software problem Nokia should have fixed it when they upgraded Nokia 3 from 7.0 to 7.1.1. There could be a chance this problem was not reported when Nokia was in 7.0.
And if it is a hardware limitation then shame on Nokia and its reputation. Even a 40$ phone has good multi touch screen for gaming and other stuff and here comes Nokia who sold millions of defective product to their customers.

It's very frustrating because I can't play games with Analog + Button control that are placed on the edge of the screen....I think I will replace it with a Huawei P10 Lite..

Yes the problem still exists after Oreo beta and its annoying as hell. Well already reported in feedback app. Lets hope it resolves in next beta build.
i think the issue is hardware based because i broke the glass of my nokia 3 and now i can touch the edges simultaneously

Unfortunately it's a hardware problem, the display is faulty, I changed my display with a Chinese display designed for nokia 3, now the multi touch works fine, it cost me $20 something, but the quality is poor, top part got cracked after I sat with the phone in my jeans pocket, I've put a protective glass on top, but it works perfectly fine, it's been around 4 months now, another issue is screen bleeding, but I don't care anymore, it does the job of a smartphone, I'll recommend this display only if u have shattered the original display Which is quite difficult to do so?, but in my case water damaged, so I put the Chinese one, as the original costs half the value of phone around $60 (INR.4000)

Repeating characters whenn typing

Has anyone else had an issue where characters are repeated when typing (like in the title)? Had the phone for a week now and I'm really impressed but this little issue is ddriving me nuts. I thought it was an issue with SwiftKey but swapping for the built in Gboard hasn't resolved the issue. I'm running the current firmware release C432. Happens with sspacees too...So odd?.

Same problem here.
This happened to me once or twice. I noticed that it happened when I accidentally swiped over the keyboard instead of typed a letter. Maybe the same happened to you.
Thanks for your responses. I've noticed that it got worse the more quickly I typed. I did a power cycle (AKA Magic Reboot) shortly after I made the post and it doesn't seem too bad now (typing this on a laptop). Doesn't look like it is "an issue" as such as its only a couple of people reporting it here. Hard to tell as it has not been available long so the user-base will be fairly small.

There was another thread where a few of us were discussing... The 130 update definitely reduced touch sensitivity so there are missed touch points when typing and also repeating letters when typing fast.. The 100 firmware was fine.. I did send them a message on HiCare and they said they'd pass it over to the dev team.. Hopefully the next update fixes it..

I tried the Live Chat facility and they suggested clearing the Cache Partition. I did that and still get the issue (typing this on laptop). He said that it was the first case he had heard of this happening (funny how they always say that...). I might try the live chat again to see what can be done. I mentioned about the lack of feedback/bug report and he said he would "pass it on" so not much use really.

It seems puzzling that if it were a software issue, then everyone running the 130(C432) release would we mentioning it on this forum. As it seems a little quiet with regards to that, this make me think its a hardware issue affecting a limited number of handsets.
I'm hoping that the next update (overdue for Feb and now due for March update) may fix it. If not, I'll be sending it off for repair with John Lewis in the UK where I bought it from.

i'm waiting the update too, but c432 fw not yet released.
Fellas, the bug is also known as "double tapping" and it software related only. Few years ago Huawei P8 Lite had it and after a several updates it was fixed.

I finally did the factory reset as suggested by support a while back and strangely (had no hope that it would fix it), the issue has (so far) not returned .
I'm wondering if the issue occured as a result of the the January 130 update which started to install as soon as I connected the phone to the WiFi when I first set up the handset. Anyone else who are having the issue after the update but have not done a factory reset, I recommend that they try it. If you have done the reset, do you still get the issue?
Hopefully the 140 update (due any day?) will now sort out the dropping bluetooth whilst streaming music.

My factory reset seemed to resolve the issue but it came back shortly afterwards but not as bad as it was previously. That or I've become more accustomed to it. EIther way, it is still here. I take it you are not on the C432 (UK?) variant like mine? No sign of the 140 update for me yet which seems to resolve it for some users suffering the same issue.

got mine last match 21 from globe pre-order. anyone noticed about the yellowish screen? different viewing angles like from side, up and down got more nicer color (suppposed to be the real color) than facing directly on screen as it is really yellowish. need replacement or is this just normal? this is exynos variant here.
also had this finger print scanner problem few days ago but thankfully totally gone for now, what happened was that when i tried to open my phone using finger print nothings happened, then tried to turned on the screen and keep using the finger print 'til a pop up meesaged appeared stating "...if it keeps happening try restarting the phone" then I did it and voila problem gone but keeps coming back around 3x but luckily since yesterday it didnt came back and hoping will really not come back. wondering what caused that thing? a faulty hardware or software problem?

Please try any call recording app and tell me if it record voice from both sides or only your voice? And what is model number of your S9 plus?

Is the OEM Unlock option in Developer Options available out of the box (Smart / Globe) or does it show up only after 7 days from first use like others?

cant try it for now im in data mode but read about that thing here that no apps yet can record both sides in voice call

since march 21 so almost 3wks now.
I had it for almost a month now. I bought an XTC openline, and I still don't have the OEM unlock, which is odd. I'm not rooting it anytime soon because of the dual speaker and the sound is satisfactory. Im always rooting my phone for the Viper4. But still, I'm itching for a root but I don't see the need yet. Why is my OEM not unlock yet? I don't want a factory reset.

Bought it from the local Samsung store before it was out for sale. I've enabled it right away. Did a factory reset several times so that I can root it, when it was still new. It didn't appear, so I've waited for 7 days but still no OEM unlock. It's a good thing I'm happy with the speed and sound. There's supposed to be a patch from Note 8 that works with s9, it was a supposedly a bug or a bug from knox or something.... But I'm not in a rush to root it, which is weird because I always root my phone for the Viper4 but I think the sound of this device is good enough for me.
It finally appeared, the OEM unlock button, at exactly 1 month that I bought this.
I'm getting one of the best battery life with stock, definitely not rooting it yet.
Bought mine at Greenhills. 256 GB model. They said the unit is from HK.

Apparently the unit from HK with 256 GB have different Samsung Keyboard layout. Any thoughts on how I can change the Samsung Keyboard layout?
anyone tried rooting using kingroot, iroot alike app? did it trip the knox? is it possible while oem still in locked mode? hope someone tried as for now I can't do it since I can't backup my files incase disaster came.

Google Maps Issue

Just thought i would make a threat to address the google maps being laggy / unresponsive.
It can usually be fixed by changing the display to HD+ mode if this was bugging anyone like it was myself.
i actually do have that problem- in hd+ mode :/

Thanks, that did help but not ideal. We can't not enjoy the FD+ just because it will slow down Google Maps. Come on Google, sort it out!!
I guess Google blames it on Huawei, and Huawei blames it on Google. The fact remains that these problems were also reported on the Mate 10, 6 months ago and no progress has been made.

Good to see it's not just me.
It's laggy as hell for me. Far slower than it was on my LG G4 that I just moved from. So slow and jumpy!
Same issue here, hopefully either Huawei or Google will fix the issue over next week or so. (I can use the workaround till then but it is mildly annoying)
Strange how some people have this issue and others not. Maybe it's region dependent? I have a UK P20 Pro (Three network - dual sim) and I have been using it for navigation for a few days now with no issues. It is pretty much running the same as it did on my Galaxy S8+.
Not noticed lag anywhere so far! Scrolling is better than it was on any of my previous Samsung devices.
My only issue is the stock icons and launcher. It looks too outdated. I'll stick Nova on it soon when I have the time to set it all up.

I have the same phone (P20 Pro Dual SIM from Three), though as per one of the previous comments, mine is a CLT-L29 as opposed to CLT-L09. Could that be the reason?

What exactly is the issue? Is it terrible lag? I want to understand how bad the situation is and when it happens to see if I can reproduce it.
I have the same model as you, so I find it very strange. Are you using a third party launcher or have you done anything else to your device since you set it up?

I find this strange also as I have never seen it. In fact maps has been super fast for me. I am dual SIM from three UK. CLT-L29 model
It is strange. I have tried to uninstall updates and install it again and they didn't seem to work.
The slowness is in the lag when you try to move the map or even when clicking around or when searching.
With FD+ switched off, it seems to work absolutely fine. Just like it did on my Nexus 6P
Hopefully, it will be fixed soon, so for now I am just going to live with HD+ setting
It's poor if it's been a known issue for 6 months. I'm on EE in the UK (see attached) and I feel cheated if I have to change the screen resolution for a mainstream, hugely popular app to work as it should.
It's made me nearly as unhappy as when I discovered that only one of my P20 Pro's speakers were working.
That's not normal, right?! ?
What software build are you guys on? I am on 8.1.0.103 and I have the maps issue. I saw that an online reviewer at android authority was using software 8.1.0.106 and said they were on "beta" software... lol. Am I on alpha then?
Can anyone confirm if maps works on 8.1.0.106?

Looks like maybe the dual sim works (maybe the firmware version)
I'm on 103 on L 09 (UK single sim) and it took me ages to work out why maps wasn't working.
Hmm, this is even weirder! I am on dual SIM and my firmware version is only 8.1.0.102, which doesn't match with anyone of the versions you are talking above.
I miss my stock android on Nexus already :'(
