What is the best Audio Mod out there for the Idol 3? - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to get the best out of my Android device one step at a time. I've heard that ViPER4Android was a good choice, But yet I am not sure.
Any Ideas?

In my opinion if you are audiophile use viper. If you were preveously satisfied with jbl mod and now you have root use maxxxaudio.

Merrr, Imma go ViPER. I remember seeing a thread on here showing how to install it, But it looks like I lost that thread. Is there any way you can direct me to the thread or show me how to install ViPER?

I'm sorry, i was away but you could find it easily if you just used search.. Also it is a little more difficult than on the custom rom cause of the permissive kernel support.
Sent from my 6045K using Tapatalk

I use Viper as it allows you to enjoy completely the audio chipset.
Just watch there for instructions:http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=52
If you have any question about the procedure, just ask me in a PM.
Kind regards

[Q] Audio/Equalizer

Is there a file/app to download for rooted users that mimics the DSP app for vanilla ROM's? I liked the option in Cyanogen to use the equalizer for the headset and phone speaker. Thanks
Anyone?

Surprised this has not been added to other roms, since will save battery and overhead when playing audio.
I found a method that worked for me in the Nexus One Development forum. I can't post links but search there for 'DSP-based equalizer".

Thanks for the quick response. I guess there is no way to get to install in recovery then. The whole adb thing is confusing.

What are you talking about? You just download that zip, place it on your sd card (in a folder, I couldn't get it to find it if it were on the root of the card), and install it from clockworkmod recovery. Don't forget to do a nandroid first.
Look at number 3 on the link to the post. Can't find anything to download.
sent from my Incredible using Tapa Talk
it should also work if you just place the zip on your sd card and use clockwork. (no guarantees, so make a nandroid backup like the previous post suggested)
will this work on a sense rom, or just vanilla android?
EDIT: installed zip from clockworkmod recovery and it's working on Virtuous 2.0.
it's nice to finally have an EQ and the dsp effects are kinda cool as well with headphones. kinda gives the illusion that you're listening to speakers in a room, not speakers stuck in your ears.
Okay, the problem was there was no zip using tapatalk. I went on the website and saw it right away. Thank you! Sorry for being a new b.

Working great for me. Did update.zip through clockwork recovery. Thanks for sharing.

How good is the EQ and will it sound ok using in my car? I would assume yes but just curious.

it seems that way. do a nandroid backup first just in case it's not stable or doesn't boot up.
Yes it works
I renamed to update.zip (probably unnecessary)
booted into recovery which automatically tried to install and failed (unsigned/verification failure)
went into clockwork
toggled verification check off
installed zip
What I really needed was a gain increase which this does not have. Got on a plane last week and could not hear movies on my dinc cause volume was too low. However this dsp manager does increase overall sound and it improves sound quality. Need to take another trip to try it out! Sweet!
Thanks egeorgia and xmunroe!!
I just did a nandroid backup with rom manager. Can I just place the zip without renaming it on the root of my sd card and choose "Install rom from SD card" with rom manager and update that way? I have the rooted stock lite 2.2 Sense rom.
Also, am I correct in thinking this mod is using the DSP hardware, so a more efficient and better sounding option than the audio apps with EQ's that are in the market? Astro player and MixZing are examples. They are making EQ adjustments through software and cpu overhead, while the DSP Mangager in this zip is doing it all through hardware. Correct?
I believe it does work as a gain. If you see the "db" to the right it actually goes into the plus. I did this and it actually distorted that frequency. Don't use the compression. It will make it quieter.

Just wanted to say thank you for posting the link to DSP Manager. It works great.
The room effects are awesome. Sounds great with my Westone 3's (I'm also a headphone geek).

Viper4android Sound Equalizer

Well I was tired of the moto useless equalizer with no real customization.
So I just downloaded Viper4android on my moto running KitKat 4.4.
It works fantastic actually better than it did on 4.2

not sure what the reason is, but after I installed viper4android, my "audio effect" app would crash whenever I open it. I forgot to turn off "audio effect" before I install viper4android, and now I cant even open up "audio effect". Does freezing the audio effect app turn it off?>

I can't stop it since everytime I run it, it says android system fcs for some reason. So I just froze it. I hope that also stops it as well.
So, I have been using this and love it. However, I have noticed that if I have music playing through Spotify or some other application, the MotoAssist feature will not read out my text messages. If I turn off Viper4Android and don't have Spotify going while driving, the program reads off my texts without any problems. Can anyone here verify this?
I love Viper but I wish the Moto X sounded like my nexus 7 that I have dash mounted. There are more tweaks in Viper on the Nexus. Sounds good on the X but doesn't come close to the Nexus.

Please explain how there are more tweaks in viper 4 android on your nexus device. The V4A app is a single app there is not a special one made for a nexus unless you choose different ui settings within the V4A app all tweaks are the same no matter what device you use it on so please enlighten me. Very miss leading comment you have made.

The installation no longer asks what kind of chipset you have. It now only asks the quality type you would like (Extreme, super, or high). I'm really hoping here that someone can speak to audio being muted through Moto Assist when using V4A. Anyone?

In your other post, you mentioned turning off V4A and Spotify fixed your problem...any chance the problem is caused by Spotify and not V4A?
I can't offer any insight to the problem since I'm not rooted yet, but I miss V4A from my Galaxy Nexus days and it's the main reason I want to root...however, if it really is V4A that's causing Moto Assist issues, I might think twice.
Thanks.
Anyone can confirm if Moto Assist reading of texts works with this or not, or if that experience up the thread was more a problem with Spotify?

[Q] Custom ROM Droid Maxx Developer Edition

I'm somewhat a noob to custom ROMs, and looking for a bit of information before I decide to flash a new one. I have a Verizon Droid MAXX Developer Edition (XT1080) with the current KitKat 4.4 installed. I'm looking to try the nightly CM11 out. I have already unlocked the bootloader, its not rooted just yet though.
In another forum thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654816
A user posted a link to http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960dt (3 downloads, I'm not sure which one to choose for my device)
I'm wanting to know if this build would work on my phone before I flash and possibly mess something up, and also does Verizon work okay on this build. Is there anything else I should know before flashing a ROM (I'm somewhat tech savvy, so the process seems pretty straight forward, but any advice is appreciated)
I would have posted the question in that thread but I didn't want to break any rules, which says to Q/A here.

Obviously you need to have a custom recovery installed and get root. All three of those builds are for our phone. They are "nightlies" that get updated, well, nightly. I ran the 2/19 build for a little while and it worked pretty well. GPS was the only thing that didn't work and I think there is a work around for that. Active notifications and touchless controls are not part of cm.
Sent from my XT1080 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
I'm not worried about GPS or the Motorola controls.
Do you recommend a good recovery to flash? Also I've seen people posting problems when rooting this phone with 4.4 installed.
Any reason why you reverted back? Didn't like it?

I use TWRP. No problems rooting the Dev edition on 4.4 the problems are all with the consumer edition. I've never been a big CM fan plus I like having a working GPS, and I just didn't feel like going through the steps to get it working
CM seems to be good for my first custom ROM, but for future references do you recommend another ROM? I've seen that PACMAN ROM posted a bunch, but it looks pretty buggy.

CM 11 is pretty much it for our phones right now. You can flash the firmware for the Moto X and try those ROMs though.
One last thing as far as rooting goes. Do I use rock my moto to root. Also if I should decide to keep my stock ROM are there any advantages to rooting other than apps like titanium backup etc?

then try to install cyanogen (i already did)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50515668
So with xposed you can customize a current ROM without having to flash to cyanogenmod? I like the stock ROM but I'd like to be able to change certain designs (example: change the way my notification bar looks. Maybe battery icons and change menus within settings. Etc ) Just trying to really see the benefit of flashing another ROM if what I'm wanting to do can be done through a 3rd party program.

When I first installed CM11 it looked almost exactly like my stock set up using the Google launcher and xposed. The only advantage CM provides that I can see is the ability to tweak the kernel settings, if you are into that sort of thing.

I appreciate all the help so far. I think I will try xposed out and see what I can tweak as far as display settings.
I'm assuming no custom recovery is required for this, only rooting. I like some aspects of cyanogenmod but for this also being my work phone, I don't want to risk messing up my network settings etc.
When you root, can you still update your stock OS? Or do you need to unroot before each update?
