Possibility of Nougat Port - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I was wondering, now that Nougat is rolling out to the Moto G4's, would there be a possibility of a stock version being ported to the G3's. I have no idea of whats involved, and I'm only asking the question in case some of the developers might think it would an interesting project. If it cant happen due to hardware differences, sorry for asking

Pretty sure this question was asked a week or so ago, but I am too lazy to find the thread and link it... And no, it is isn't possible yet. The G4 that is getting the update is too different hardware-wise from the our device to be of use and it will take a few months before the kernel source is released. Still, the differences are big with the G4 being 64-bit and our device being 32-bit, that a port is not likely.

I have a query. It's off topic, based on Lineage OS. But when you are saying about porting ROMs, well... the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus also have different hardware. How can the same LineageOS distribution?

True, but we have the source code for LineageOS, we don't for Moto stock and never will except the kernel.
When we build any custom ROM we need the device tree and the source code... Porting binaries is different and they need to have roughly the same architect at least.

That's not true. Both Moto G3 and G4/G4 Plus have Cortex A53 cores (64 bits) but both phones run 32-bit Android. But I agree with you, porting stock ROM (N or MM) is nearly impossible.
Maybe if Nougat arrives to Moto G4 Play (which has the same SD410 SoC as our Moto G3), we can port it but I'm not sure.

confused moto e or android one

I am kind of confused between buying android one device or moto e.Would it get cyanogenmod? As track record of these companies and mediatek for releasing kernel sourcers is not good.If this device has any hope of getting custom rom goodness i would definately buy it

The kernel sources for the three Android One devices was released a few hours ago (announcement) so that's a very good sign for custom firmware and CyanogenMod support.

Is CM12 planned to be ported to the Atrix 2?

Well, the title basically explains it all. I love Android L, but I can't get it onto any of my devices as CM12 is only available on the popular devices, like the S4 and S5. When will it be ported to the A2? Thanks!

Officially I doubt it, despite Motorola recently been into updating their older phone line-ups. The dual core phones are showing their age. To be honest, the custom CM12 roms for this device would be more beneficial than an official update. I've got it on my LG G2 and it's very good, it'll be interesting to see if the speed improvements translate over to this model of phone as good as it has for this device.

Yeah, custom ROMs would be the way for this device. But yeah, I doubt anyone's gonna port CM12 to this device. It's old already..
Bump.
No android L for me then.

Holly s^^t , this is awesome.
all this but no bootloader unlock for us? Oh why? Could someone make with these what we have now a custom rom/kernel?
1 year late, atleast we know its coming after all.
Why is update size only 250mb?

This is source code for development, you need to download the original android source code ( M 6.0.1 ) and merge the source from LG (250 mb) with it.
Didnt know tnx for answer.
One can only hope.

but after the merge and the following compile, can we flash it with dd or we need a bootloader unlocked with a recovery?
@superdioz The published code is useless unless you have LG´s signing certificate. The bootloader will refuse to load an unsigned kernel.
Maybe we could unlock BL after the update and use the source to build cm 13 or aosp. Wishful thinking
I know someone was trying to pull the BL from a dev edition of the H950 but I don't know whatever came of it. Maybe if someone could revive that then we could actually do something with this device?
It is super nice. I guess we can tell there is Marshmallow on Flex 2 hardware But besides this source code, my question is if any korean flex got update? I think not. I want to see this new OS on our device if anyone is running it

Official LineageOS support?

Hello all
Apologies if this question seems stupidly obvious but I want to make sure before I commit to this phone... I bought an S7 for T-Mobile and I think it's not supported by LineageOS just yet because it has a locked bootloader
I can see builds are being made for the herolte (S7), but I don't think the T-Mobile model falls into the unified builds as it runs a Snapdragon 820, rather than the Exynos 8890
So currently, the T-Mobile S7 IS NOT supported by LineageOS?
I thought LineageOS was for all devices
I thought it was build to run on any devices.

Well the lineageos website only lists the herolte in certain places but doesn't specify models. Based on info from xda I found out the above, but posts are old. So that's why I'm asking
Unfortunately there's not much for our device t mobile s7 i just got one a few months ago and Yea there isn't one single non tw rom for it.. I'm a little disappointed there isn't more roms for our device..

Question TWRP files for g stylus 5g 2022 (XT2215-4)

I have recently acquired a carrier unlocked Motorola G Stylus 5G 2022 (XT2215-4) and have successfully unlocked the boot loader.
I have been looking for TWRP recovery files/images for my device but have been unsuccessful up to this point. I am considering compiling some from source, if need be, at which point I will likely compile lineage from some source for it as well.
Does anyone know if the 2021 (Denver/Osaka) models can or should be used as a template for attempting this? Additionally is anyone looking into porting to this device? I am a bit new to this and wouldn't mind a bit of assistance.
Thanks!
Just got the device the other day but haven't bootloader unlocked it. I'm assuming due to the different processor alone it's likely we'll need our own device tree. I haven't really done that stuff before but maybe if we get a Telegram group going we could get some Moto vets to help out maybe?
I have been able to extract the dtb.* files from the firmware's dtbo.img however I have not attempted to compile it into the dts.img via the dtc utiliity like many of the tutorials on the subject say you need to do. This is because none of the ones I found say anything about having to deal with multiple dtb files like the ones I was presented with when I extracted the dtbo.img from the device firmware. I didnt want to try it and have it be totally wrong.
On the motorola github I have posted an issue requesting the release of the kernel, device tree, and any other pertinent files, pertaining to the stock firmware for the XT2215-4. Hopefully they come back in an reasonable time so that I can move forward with compiling Lineage OS for it.
Rooting:
Once you get the bootloader unlocked, you can root it by flashing the boot.img that has been patched with Magisk using fastboot. Perhaps Ill post a step by step guide for this for the XT2215-4 in the next day or so.

This is a mediatek phone, you will have to wait on the Milan files from Moto directly, and last I checked they haven't released the tree yet.

XT2215-4 is not mediatek it's Qualcomm snapdragon SDM695 w same sm6375 chipset as the xiaomi note 11 Pro, I would rather have Orange box recovery cuz I'm spooled to the OTA update block, I was about to bust out studio and Android kitchen myself and see if I could Port it from the xiaomi note 11 Pro but I know the kernel going to have different drivers as the 11 pro has a lot better camera like 100 megapixel versus 50 megapixel a few other small details different LTE bands.. maybe enough to just swap the kernels out and Android kitchen to get a buggy twrp up in there interim as we're I'm waiting the kernel ource code and devised tree Moto has only posted like three of their 12 devices I was about to supposed to request when I saw his already posted I'll try to back him up maybe if we bug the crap out of them the xiaomi people had to do that.. they have ricedroid, PE, lineage evolution x, Sapphire, and arrow all kinds of ROMs for the same chipset Xiaomi note 11 pro / Poco note 4 (apparently the Paco is the same device just different country branded and somehow it's the only one that's allowed to play like pubg battlegrounds and stuff cuz they're trying to push the pacos or whatever) i ran across it all in the telegram and I still don't think they have gotten their source code yet. I'm not sure how they even ported all this. Because the telegram thread with all the ROMs I was looking at ror porting and still requesting people to spam xiaomi' about releasing the source
I dumped and built up a recovery device tree for xt2215-4, then built twrp from source with the twrp 12.1 branch
-STATUS-
twrp boots
touch currently broken
usb currently broken
Will post more when I have more to post

I have a Mediatek variant. I have CPU-Z as a confirmation. I also have made it quite clear in my guides that I have a Factory Unlocked version purchased from Best Buy. So I'm on Milan, Mediatek Helio P65 MT6768 board.
It would behoove you to read and do research before spouting out unconfirmed information.

I'm unclear what you are responding to. My xt2215-4 is also qualcomm. It also reports the board as holi. Mine was also purchased carrier unlocked from best buy. After sifting through the internal guts of the rom after super and partitions inside have been extracted, it's def a qualcomm device. What is your model # ?
I have also rebuilt the super image to use a GSI rom but I cannot seem to get service fully functional. If anyone would like to help me work on it, join my Telegram Android group and let me know. I have twrp built but also need some help getting the touchscreen script working as well as usb functioning. I know my device is using a Novatek screen as repoted by fastboot getvar all

You could wait for Moto to release the trees. Nobody's made a request so that could be the delay.

I'm responding to your original post where you insinuated I didn't have a Mediatek device, which I do. I think the issue is, I thought you were referring to my G Stylus 2022, which is
Moto G Stylus (2022) XT-2211 Mediatek Variant.and not the 2215.
