Hi,
I'm using a Huawei Mate 8 Al10c00b577.
Google maps is continuously reporting "not available in this region" when I want to enable location history.
I attempted multiple GPS fake position apps. None of them worked...
Anybody else have this issue? I didn't encounter the issue when I was running L29 firmware.
Thanks,
Thib
I have the same issue on mij Mate 8 !
But not on mij Huawei tablet m2, with the same account.
Same problem with my AL10.
Okay, as already written here I'm back to stock and non-rooted, Bootloader locked.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72155879&postcount=4080
I found out my GPS and location history is working fine since then. Even Google Rewards is working again! Yay!
What I also saw on my AL10, there is the App "AutoNavi" installed. It wasn't included in the KangVIP.
I deleted most of the chinese Apps as long as it worked (again: no root) except "Amap" (looks like a navigation software). Amap uses the Autonav adapter so I'm worried it gets deleted.

Hello!
My Galaxy R (Austria, 2.3.6) will show 180° wrong compass information in Google Maps. When GPS is not active the arrow will point to the exact opposite direction the phone is looking. When 3D-Compass mode is activated the buildings shown in front of me will be behind me.
Other Compass Apps (tested "Compass" from catch.com from Market) will work fine.
I've also compared to an ZTE-Blate, the Blade was always correct, Galaxy R always wrong in Google Maps. Compass showed the same info for both phones.
*#0*# -> sensor -> magnetic sensor:
The green line will always show North
I think this is a google maps problem, i wanted to ask for confirmation on other phones before reporting it to Google&Samsung.
Can with an Galaxy R confirm this?
Mine shows it correctly. Where do you live? If you live at the southern hemisphere your compass may be preset for the northern one, since the ROM you use is for Austria.

I don't think thats the case. The magnetic sensor works by actually detecting the magnetic field in the surroundings.
I would suggest OP to update / reinstall Google Maps, its a software problem only with Google Maps and nothing else. As it is working with other apps its working correctly.
Hope it helps.
Hello!
I live in Austria and this problem occured with the original ROM and so i updated via kies, and it is still present. It is an original Drei branded phone with no modifications except root via cwm.
My maps version is 6.2.0 (Settings->Info will show: 6.2.0 (#6020014) gmm-android-samsung with platform android:samsung-GT_I9103-GT_I9103 and i can not uninstall it, since it came within the ROM. I tried to clear Data/cache for maps and tried uninstalling upgrades for Google maps (then its version 6.0.0). NUnfortunately I was not able to solve my problem.
I am pretty sure that the magnetic/geographic poles will not switch at the equator, so no adjustment for this should be necessary.
Also all other compass functions will work correctly, even google sky maps will show north correctly.
@mrsaccess:
Thank you for trying, now i know the problem is not on all phones. I would like to know if it is software dependent. I assume you do not have the Drei Firmware, can you tell me which firmware you have?
If someone with the Drei Firmware reads this can you please test, if this will also affect you? Note: GPS must have no lock, the arrow has to turn if you turn your phone to reproduce this. Try pointing your phone to North and see if the arrow in google maps will also point to North.
I have the original 2.3.4 that came with the device.
The problem has magically disappeared on my phone... Wow....
I also had a small problem with with a website (german wikipeda fir "Gin") which would "crash" the browser everytime I zoomed in, which i could reproduce for 2 days, after these two dayse it worked fine again.
The phone seems to solve all problems by itself...
mine too..... zskk5 hong kong...
Mine too still has Gmaps problem

How did the problem vanish by itself.. Pleas recollect and let me know what could have corrected it. Even my phone shows reverse direction in google maps but all fine with the compass apps
If anybody else aware of solution, please help.
Note: I have already tried, re installing.
I bought my Lenovo S880 in China in August. Brought it back to Europe, rooted it, flashed GAPPS and ICS_locationfix_v1.3 and everything worked fine.
Went back to China in December and at first location services were working fine, google maps, weather forecast app and my hotel finder app all knew where I was. Then all of a sudden location services stopped working again, I think after I used a Chinese SIM in slot 1 for local 3G data.
Returned to Europe, re-flashed location fix and followed instructions as before but can't get location services to work again.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
(tried posting in thread where I got the original info from but was unable to do this)

Has anyone noticed that Timeline in Google Maps doesn't work properly most of the times? A lot of times I go to places and later on I find out that Timeline haven't had detected my travel time and location... If you haven't noticed, I suggest you keep an eye on that and see if that's the case.
Me too.
But actually only since the update to Nougat.
Same problem, with the same phone. Some days have no data, and other work perfectly. I have tried lots of reset and reinstall and I have no idea why it randomly works.
It is probably because Maps may be being stopped after your screen gets locked. Go to Settings -> Battery -> Close Apps after screen lock and unselect Maps from the list of apps displayed and see if it helps
Made sure to check that Maps wasn't selected in the close app after screen lock thing, but timeline still isn't working. If anybody has any other ideas they would be much appreciated!
I have this exact problem as well. I don't know that causes it.
But I have a different phone - Huawei Mate 9 pro. That's where the problem is.
My previous phone, Huawei p9, did not have this problem at all...
Exactly same here. Huawei Mate 9.
Someone solve this issue?
My timeline isn't working at all. I cant even view my timeline in my maps. It shows 'Cant connect to maps. Try again in a few minutes'. Anyone else facing this? Any solution for this?
Same problem with my HUAWEI Mate 9: location hardly recorded in timeline. I have disabled stopping of app when locked for Google Maps and any other app that might relate to it.
I guess that HUAWEI implemented other aggressive power saving routines, which conflicts with the timeline recording. Did anybody observe this exact issue on a phone from another company? Having such unexpected and undocumented behavior in the operating system makes me suspicious agains the Chinese producer.
Would be great if somebody could find a solution, work-around, or at least an explanation.
BTW: I'm surprised to see so few postings here. Is this issue discussed on a more popular place?
I've been observing the same problem recently, some days it tracks my timeline perfectly and on other days it thinks I spent the day at home, despite being out and about for up to 10 hours at a time.
Using Mate 9 L29 and its been happening on multiple different firmware versions
Me too, I guess the issue is from the software.
Or may be the google app issue too
I have the same issue with my honor 8, any fix?
I have the same problem with my P10.
Before I had an HTC one m7 and I had no problem at all.
Did anyone find some solution?
I used to have this issue with my Honor 8 but now it works as it should. So, I don't have a specific fix for it and I don't know how it started to work suddenly but... A few months ago my phone refused to connect to any WiFi network and I had to send it in to get it repaired, they replaced the board and the WiFi was working.
And well, I noticed that Google Maps Timeline was working all of a sudden, and it still works. Weird since a board replacement shouldn't have fixed the Maps Timeline it since it's most likely software related.
Does anyone have an update on this issue? I've experienced the same thing since I bought my Honor8 a few months ago (timeline history doesn't work/works very infrequently). Could it be due to a defect in the onboard GPS? Or is it purely a software bug?
Same issue with my mate 9... I've found no fix. I've tried clearing all cache, disconnecting the account, and reconnecting the account to google location sharing, but with no success
I got the same **** ?
I have the same problem as OP with my Huawei Mate 10 pro EMUI 8.0, Android 8.0, Security Patch 6. November 2017.
But i have find out:
I have 3 different Google Accounts. When i delete the two and work only with one, the timeline will be logged in Google Maps.
So i think it hasn't to do with power savings in my case.
Google Maps Timeline does not know how to log with more than one Google Account.

That can't be the case;
I've been using two sony devices for 5 years, with my 3 google accounts, and I have like every day logged in my main account.
Then I switched to the shiny new Mate 10 Pro... FML.
since the last update to the Al00 225 firmware i cant turn on the location history, in the maps with no error message, and in fit there is an error message that location history not available for this device.
any help?

Weird...
I do experience here exactly the same behavior with a brand new Huawei P10, running release: VTR-AL00C00B157
This happens of course in Europe, outside of China.
So... Bug ? Or limitation ?
Any idea ?
Update:
- I figured out that this happens after installing Google play store, then downloading any app from it will turn the location history in Google maps to unavailable!
The only way then to recover the location history is to factory reset the P10.

It is not worked to do the factory reset to solve this problem. I guess it is due to the model number VKY-AL00. As it is a Chinese version. Mine is AL00C00B167 and have the same issue. I will rebrand to other region to solve this problem...
I'm having this issue now as well (Chinese AL00 version), although it worked up until about the end of July. Any solutions found?
Same problem here with brand new Mate 9 model MHA-L09. Location history is disabled and can't turn it on.
hi guys, that is because since B255 update, HUAWEI replaced the Google location service using Amap location service.
I have the Nokia 6 ta-1000 and I can't activate the location history also. This is the Chinese model. Before September I was able to use it.
Is there a fix for this? Will rebranding phone to international version do the trick?

Yes, that's what worked for me. I rebranded my AL00 to a European dual-sim and location services never gave me another issue.

That's great news. Now I need to rebrand from HMA. - AL00 to HMA-L29 (Mate 20) which seems to be almost impossible ?
Hello!
Today I realised that Location History (and, hence, Location Sharing) is not available to me... Googling the issue I see that this issue has been bothering many users of Chinese phones, but with no clear solution.
Of course location history was working fine since the day I got the phone, and I didn't change anything like, say, flashing a new ROM. I'm on OB25, btw.
Anyone else facing the same issue?
Same for me. Was working fine for one years and a recent research showed that it stopped working...
Had to remove my Google account, now it's working again. However, judging from others posting in various sites, I don't know for how long...

I have the same issue on Vivo Iqoo Pro. the location history was working initially, and stopped working after the google play service automatically upgraded. What i am doing is uninstall the google play service and reinstall the original play service from the Vivo app market almost every the other day when google play service upgraded to the newest version.
I don't know how to stop the google play service automatic updating... maybe i have to root the cell phone and then there is a way to stop the play service updating...
That's a valid question...
As for me, in the end I had enough and just cleanly flashed my ROM. For some reason, the problem did not appear again!
